We spent nine very enjoyable days at Watercolours in Koh Chang in February 2026. This was our first visit to Thailand, and after the hustle and bustle of Bangkok and Chiang Mai, Watercolours was a peaceful and welcome change of pace. It took us a little while to write this review, as it wasn’t easy to put into words how much we enjoyed our stay. The property has the feel of a quiet retreat, with a small, boutique charm that sets it apart from larger resorts. From the moment we arrived, Thanya’s warmth and personal touch made everything feel easy and welcoming, and her team were consistently helpful, friendly, and natural throughout our stay. Our room was spotless, thoughtfully designed, and very comfortable, ideal for a longer stay. The quiet surroundings made it easy to fully relax and sleep well each night. The food was simple and very good, and we really appreciated Thanya’s local recommendations. The riverside deck was a highlight, a calm place to sit and watch life on the water, and the location made it easy to reach the beach with a short canoe ride. We also enjoyed having the canoe to explore the river and surroundings.

The only minor downside was the access road, which is a bit basic and uneven in places. It wasn’t a major issue for us, but something to be aware of when walking into town. A bonus, though, was seeing a troop monkeys along the road.

Great location, unique, peaceful setting, great staff and great food - excellent value for money

Good, quiet location on the water, free kayaks.

Very strong artificial floral fragrance in the room that we could not tolerate, along with a noticeable grey water smell from the toilet area. We also found an unknown substance under the bed that appeared organic and decomposing (brown and yellow with softer areas). Staff offered conflicting explanations, modeling clay and AC glue, neither of which matched the appearance. We eventually decided we couldn’t tolerate the smell and had to find alternate lodging. The owner apologized profusely and agreed in person to refund the remaining two nights if we chose to leave, and we of course offered to pay for our first night. We relied on his promise and checked out. After leaving, however, the property refused the refund and kept the payment anyway. Their written response directly contradicted what we were told in person and included a false allegation that I had asked to use drugs in the room. Based on our experience, I would strongly recommend avoiding if you are sensitive to smells, and getting any agreements in writing before making decisions based on their word. There are endless wonderful places to stay on Koh Chang. In our experience, this is not one of them.

Alles ist neu hier. Großes Zimmer mit getrennter Dusche und WC. Kühlschrank, sehr leise Klimaanlage. Gefließte Fußböden. Wunderbare Terrasse direkt am Fluß. Thanya und Jason sowie ihr Personal kümmern sich fürsorglich um Ihre Gäste. Uns fehlte es an nichts. Sehr gutes und leckeres Essen. Schöne Tour den Fluss hoch durch die Mangroven und zum sehr schönen Sandstrand auf der anderen Flußseite sind es nur ein paar Minuten mit dem Kanu. Aber Achtung Sandfliegen ohne Ende. Es ist vor allem Nachts absolut ruhig hier. Wir würden sofort wieder hier übernachten. Wir waren 6 Nächte hier.

Das Frühstück sollte bei diesem Preis incl. sein. Ansonsten PERFEKT

המארחים היו מדהימים! משפחה אדיבה ונחמדה, מאוד עוזרים, נחמדים ומסבירי פנים. אפשר להשכיר קיאקים וכו ולשוט בנחל ולחוף שזאת תוספת ממש נחמדה. עזרו לנו לסגור כמה אטרקציות מעולות דרכם (הסדנת בישול הייתה אחת החוויות הטובות שלנו בתאילנד). החדר עצמו היה מדהים, מעוצב יפה, גדול, מרווח ונעים, נקי מאוד ומיטה נוחה ורכה! אוכל טעים מאוד במקום. שכחנו משהו בקו צ׳אנג אחרי שעזבנו והם עזרו לנו מאוד למרות שכבר לא היינו שם- מדהימים! תמורה מדהימה למחיר, תודה רבה למארחים על החוויה המדהימה הזאת בקו צ׳אנג.

היה לפעמים קצת ריח של ביוב בשירותים.

A small boutique hotel run by a lovely (and very helpful) Thai-Aussie couple who recently renovated the hotel and put a lot of thought into it. The atmosphere is very relaxing, the rooms are very big and very comfortable. It was great to be able to jump into one of the kayaks or canoes and row upstream along the river or a short downstream row to the beach.

The only minor downside is that it is about a 10-15 min walk to the main street which is fine if you OK with walking or have a scooter.

Disponibilité et gentillesse du personnel, établissement très bien placé entre la mangrove et la plage. Idéal si l’on veut se reposer et être au calme.

Mit sehr gepflegte und geschmackvolle Gestaltung. Direkt am Fluss. Eine Fluss Kanu Fahrt ist mit den Hauseigenen kostenlosen Kanus wirklich zu empfehlen. Optionales Frühstück sehr lecker und ausgezeichneter Cafe. Abendessen möglich. Fußläufig kleiner Strand und Strand Restaurant. Bei Ebbe oder mit Kanu auch andere Flussseite mit wunderschönen Strand zu erreichen.

The friendly staff Location and layout

The bed was really soft and pillows to firm. I had to sleep on the yoga mattress on the floor on the last night but my wife loved the bed......especially when she had it to herself!!

Die ruhige Lage am Fluss und in nächster Nähe zum wunderbaren Strand ist perfekt. Zum Essen oder Einkaufen kann man in 20 Minuten zu Fuß ins Ortszentrum gelangen. Die Gastgeber Jason und seine Frau Thanya sind entzückend und sehr aufmerksam, und wir haben uns wie zu Hause gefühlt. Das Essen wird ganz frisch zubereitet und die Karte bietet genug Abwechslung, wenn man mal im Hotel essen möchte. Alles ist blitzsauber und liebevoll gestaltet, man kann den Tag sehr gemütlich auf der Terrasse oder im Hängestuhl über dem Fluss verbringen, oder sehr unkompliziert mit dem gratis Kayak zum Strand fahren. Ideal als Rückzugsort und als Startpunkt, um Koh Chang zu entdecken!

Beautifully renovated, delightful owners, loved having free access to the SUP and canoes. A bit remote but I think that just added to the charm and I would go back in a heartbeat. Awesome if you’re happy buzzing around on scooter but please drive carefully!

Tolle ruhige Lage, sehr zuvorkommendes und freundliches Personal, blitzsaubere Zimmer

das einzige, das uns störte ist, dass der eigentlich sehr freundliche Besitzer der Unterkunft sich etwas abwertend/mehrdeutig über bestimmte Religionen und Nationalitäten äußerte. Das hinterließ leider einen etwas bitteren Beigeschmack.

Если вы устали от городской суеты, если вы хотите тишины и уединения, то вам точно нужно отдохнуть в отеле Watercolours. Это очень уютный отель всего на 5 номеров. Он находится в устье небольшой речки и до моря всего метров 200. Номера очень большие, в них есть все для комфортного отдыха. Несмотря на то, что это очень небольшой отель, в нем есть все : ресторан с очень вкусной едой и потрясающим кофе, причём можно расположиться и в самом ресторане, и прямо у реки. Есть небольшой бассейн, можно поплавать на сапах, каноэ или байдарках. И конечно в отеле можно заказать любые экскурсии, такси, трансферт. И ещё один плюс отеля - это его персонал! Очень вежливый, тактичный, готовый помочь в любой ситуации. Мы провели в отеле 8 дней, познакомились с владельцами. Очень приветливые, общительные люди! И хотя мы общались с ними через переводчик, было очень интересно. Jason и Thanyatorn создали уютную и комфортную обстановку, поэтому мы прекрасно отдохнули и с удовольствием вернёмся ещё!

Потрясающее место, в которое хочется вернутся ещё раз. Уединенная локация, бутиковый отель на 5 номеров. Умиротворяющая атмосфера воды вокруг. Сногсшибательные закаты на берегу пляжа, до которого можно доплыть на каноэ, которым вы сможете пользоваться бесплатно три часа в день. Таня - невероятно дружелюбная и добрая хозяйка. Она помогла нам арендовать байк, который привезли к Отелю, понадобились лишь копия паспорта и депозит 2000 бат.

A beautiful, small, and charming boutique hotel that only opened three months ago. Staff is super lovely and helpful with everything you may need. The rooms are very spacious and equipped with everything you need. The bed is extremely comfortable. The property is very well maintained, located directly by the river, and in my opinion the most beautiful beach on Koh Chang – Klong Prao Beach – is only about 3 minutes away. You can reach it easily by using the free kayak or canoe provided by the hotel, which makes the trip a lovely little experience.

The only small downside is that the hotel is a bit off the beaten path and not very central – but in return, it’s peaceful and idyllic.

Relaxing place to stay with great staff, we loved taking the canoes out which is included in the room rate.

We loved our stay at Watercolours. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and the location is superb. We were able to enjoy the kayaks/canoes/SUPs on the river and the ocean. It was a very easy and quick walk (<5 min) to the beach and nearby beachside restaurants. Thanya and her team are extremely welcoming, and their drinks and food absolutely delicious!

Die Lage war wirklich super. Während an der Straße und den Stränden riesige Bettenburgen und Mallorca-Tourismus herrscht, war es durch die Lage am Fluss und trotzdem kurzer Laufnähe (400 Meter ca) zum Meeresstrand wirklich paradiesisch. Unfassbar sauber überall - man konnte wortwörtlich überall vom "Fußboden essen", so sauber war es. Einzig die abgerauchte Zigarettenschachtel im Zimmer im Badschrank war nicht wirklich schön. Es gab immer Wasser kostenlos aus dem jederzeit zugänglichen Wasserspender, und es gab ein Bücherregal (viele Sprachen), wie man es früher in Backpackerhotels häufig fand, so dass man sich Bücher ausleihen konnte. Sehr schöne Terrasse zum Verweilen mit allen möglichen Sitz- und Liegegelegenheiten. Da es nur wenige Zimmer gibt, herrlich ruhig.

Ganz schlimm war die Ausrichtung der Zimmerfenster (bodentief auch noch), die alle (bis auf 1 Zimmer) direkt vor dem Bett platziert auf den Gang bzw. den Restaurantbereich zeigen. Wenn man Exhibitionist ist, mag das toll sein, ansonsten muss man ununterbrochen die Gardinen zuziehen, so dass es null Tageslicht in den Zimmern gibt. Das deprimiert sehr. In der 1. Nacht hatten wir außerdem ein Zimmer (Nr 2), das nicht nur direkt für ALLE Gäste einsehbar war, sondern auch eine Matratze hatte, die so dermaßen durchgelegen war, dass man nur am äußersten Rand überhaupt etwas schlafen konnte. Mehrere Schubladen funktionierten gar nicht. Glücklicherweise konnten wir danach wechseln und in Zimmer Nr. 3 war die Matratze wirklich gut. Auch hier aber funktionierten nicht alle Schubladen, so dass man seine Kleidung so gut wie gar nicht verstauen konnte, sondern aus dem Koffer leben musste, was ich persönlich unsäglich finde. Das ist keine Erholung. Aufgrund der Mangroven und der Gezeiten gibt es tatsächlich im Bad einen permanenten Geruch, aber wenn man die Türen schloss, ging es. Die überall in Thailand übliche Gegenmaßnahme, alles mit super viel Raum-Perfum zu überdecken, wird auch hier verwendet. Die Preise im Restaurant sind rund 2-3 teurer als an den Restaurants an der Straße und auch noch teurer als im Seafoodrestaurant wenige 100 Meter entfernt. Man erkauft sich als Gast, die Bequemlichkeit, wenn man nicht laufen will. Und was man wissen sollte (und leider auf der Karte nicht transparent gemacht wird) ist, dass auf die teuren Preise noch Steuern kommen - das liegt daran, dass auch Steuerbelege gegeben werden (was andere Restaurants meist nicht machen). Es ist sehr löblich (und wichtig für eine Volkswirtschaft), dass so rechtskonform gearbeitet wird, , aber es wäre schon schön, wenn man das auch auf der Karte vorab vermerken würde. Der "Pool" sollte nicht als solcher angepriesen werden. Es ist ein "Handwaschbecken", mehr nicht.

Extrem freundliche und hilfsbereite Hotelbesitzerin. Hat auf Anfrage alles organisiert: scooter rental, jungle trekking... Die Zimmer sind sehr schön und die Lobby am Fluss ist total einladend zum chillen. Man kann SUPs und Kajaks kostenlos ausleihen :) Haben dort öfter gefrühstückt, war super lecker. Wir fanden die Lage super entspannt und würden jederzeit wieder herkommen

Die Lage war außergewöhnlich schön! Morgens einen Café auf der Terrasse am Flusssteg zu trinken und einfach nur die Natur genießen! Das Personal und vor allem die Besitzer waren super nett und immer da wenn man sie gebraucht hat. Da dies ein kleines Boutique-Hotel ist hat man sich wie in einer kleinen Familie gefühlt! Wir haben gute Tipps für unsere Reise erhalten und für einen kleinen Plausch hier und da haben sich die Besitzer immer Zeit genommen! Das Hotel haben sie erst vor ein paar Monaten übernommen und mit Liebe renoviert und gestaltet! Einfach ein toller Aufenthalt!

The best location on Koh Chang! Mountains and sea in one view! The facilities are enormous. You can take a boat or sail yourself (canoe, kayak, SUP free to use) if you want to go to the beach or a restaurant. You can also walk there! Better still, enjoy a delicious meal on site. I had the best massage just around the corner. The five rooms offer colourful, modern comfort and are very large, as well as nice and quiet... If we could, we would come and have a pint with Jason every evening. And Tanja... what can I say? The epitome of friendliness! Together with their staff, they take care of everything your heart desires! We will definitely be back! THANK YOU 🙏🙏🙏

Tenu par un couple australo-thaï charmant, personnel aux petits soins. Situé sur une mangrove, on accède à la plage par kayak ou paddle prêté par l’hôtel. Peu de chambres mais arrangées avec goût sur une excellente literie. On peut louer directement une motorbike.

Le personnel ne parle pas vraiment anglais. Le restaurant ferme à 20h30, c'est trop tôt. Les kayaks sont OK mais le parc SUP mériterait un renouvellement.

Das kleine & feine Watercolours wird von den sehr netten und entspannten Eigentümern selbst geführt, geschmackvolle und hochwertige Einrichtung in Top Zustand, sauber, gutes Frühstück. Wer Entspannung sucht, ist hier genau richtig Wir haben leider nur 3 Tage gebucht und hatten daher zu wenig Zeit, um mit den kostenlosen Kajaks die Riverside zu erkunden.

Die gemeinsame Zufahrt der Ressorts am Klong Plu River ist teilweise mit Sand und Schotter befestigt und gerade Nachts mit dem Bike nicht sehr gut befahrbar

Personalen, väldigt trevlig och hjälpsam Boendet, väldigt prisvärt, fräscha gemensamma ytor. Rummen i sig fick man hålla rent själv. Faciliteter, bra access till att låna sup och dylikt. Frukost, ingen frukost i boendet men går att köpa i deras restaurang.

Boendet, är i ett väldigt fint läge med någon typ av träskmark, vilket avgav en otroligt stark stank av sumpmark i vårt rum som kom framförallt från badrummet och framförallt på kvällen då vattnet var lågt. (Rum 5)

Jason and Thanya could not have made me feel more welcome, they have recently renovated and the rainfall shower was to die for 😍 great food, comfy bed, gorgeous tiles everywhere. Watching the sunrise from the hanging swing chair with a coffee was a highlight for me - followed by exploring with the kayak up the canal and down to the beach. No words. 10/10

Incredibly relaxing spot right on the water. Rooms were a generous size and super clean, the decor of the entire hotel is just stunning! We enjoyed kayaking down to the beach everyday and having a swim and just relaxing at the common outdoor area. It's a little far from the main road but they have scooters you can rent from the hotel so it's all very easy to get around. Will 100% be back!

The authentic setting was unique, and the cool indoor pool was a life saver after moving around all day in the heat. The canoe was awesome to take out in the morning and watch all the birds and fish. Cat was super cute and playful. They also helped us book a fabulous snorkeling trip.

The hotel and rooms were very clean and had comfortable beds. We were greeted by the owner who explained services on offer and was very informative about where to go and what to do whenever we asked. The two Thai ladies were smiling and friendly. Our stay was quiet and relaxing watching the birds over the river morning and night and just a 10 minute walk down a fairly well lit track to the main road with many restaurants of all kinds and bars with temple just along the road.

We enjoyed everything and this is not a negative in anyway just a be aware that due to the hotel being over the mangrove there is the odd smell every now and then but isn’t that bad and doesn’t hang around. Again not a negative and didn’t affect our stay. We had a great time and enjoyed the peace and quiet away from the main road.

We loved this place very much; such a hidden gem! It has a unique secluded location in a mangrove forest, on the edge of a river, close to the sea/beach. Although we had seen the location on the map, it was still surprising. (Note it is quite close to other resorts, but you do not notice they are there). This boutique resort has only 5 rooms along a corridor with plants and birds. The rooms are spacious, very beautiful, each in different vibrant colours, with lots of attention for detail. The terrace on the river looks out on the restaurants and resorts on the other side. Both in the day and in the evening it is very pictoresk. The place is amazingly peaceful and quiet. One could just delve into their well filled book case and read or just meditate. The canoes can be freely used to explore the river and the beach nearby. Yusuf and Khun May are incredibly nice and took good care of us. There was a great choice of breakfast options (not included in the room rate), and there are several restaurant options near by on the beach, river, and in the village. Just this: it is very quiet in the evenings, so this may not be for some of you!

This little place was a nice change from the beach but still had access to several beaches. Right on an estuary with kayaks, canoes and SUP’s free of charge. The place was very well kept and the staff were great. May, the lady front of house was very sweet and friendly and also Yousef the manager was very kind and informative of the surroundings.

Nothing not to like but it’s quiet at night.

The location of Watercolours is excellent. It is right on the river and a short walk to the beach.

The only downside is that the walls are a bit thin, so unfortunately could hear our neighbor.

I can’t say enough good about our fabulous time at Watercolours. The peaceful location right on a river and also just five minutes from the ocean is ideal. The welcoming deck is full of plants and flowers. The ambiance is magical. The rooms are large, beautifully decorated, and clean with enough space for big beds as well as a couch. The staff aimed to please. They help with everything from providing breakfast and lunch to booking tours to helping set up their free kayaks, canoes and paddle boards. The owner was so kind. When we said the bed for our daughter was too hard, he bought a mattress topper the next day. He doesn’t skimp on anything. Even the shampoo and conditioner are good quality. We loved it and will return.

Watercolours is absolutely amazing place for stay in Koh chang, you have absolutely secret and quait coz in place is only 6 rooms, so you fell like in privet area :) Big thanks to the owner and staff, they make me fell like home 🥹🙏❤️ (ps. Next time i brink more slivovice )

A little bit far away from main road and market. Need to rent motorbike or go canoe to the beach for restaurant and night life.

We loved the serene oasis it afforded on the estuary away from the main tourist areas, the vibrant colours and design, the fact that it was small and felt like a relaxing home, great host and staff and all sorts of helpful information for booking trips, and the use of kayaks and scooters.

We liked it all although would recommend use of a scooter to get to see the rest of the island and choice of places to eat. We were there when there wasn’t much beach because of the diurnal tides so had to walk or go on the scooter to get to the beach.

We loved everything about our stay at Watercolours. The location is fantastic, we thoroughly enjoyed kayaking down to the beach along the pristine river, the hotel feels like home as you relax in the lounge area overlooking the river, breakfast was delicious and the hotel staff are ready to help you with anything that you need.

Unique location with access to the river as well as the beach. Secluded section of the beach which is not too crowded. Friendly and helpful staff and owners.

Mai and Long made the place oh so magical. Can’t say enough about these two. So friendly and helpful, also around for a good laugh.

The hotel was just very beautiful, at the river. It was very relaxing and quite. There was the option of renting a kayak or SUP. The workers and the host were very kind. As a solo female traveler I felt very safe and I enjoyed my stay very much. The restaurant also served very good food, and it was also close to other good restaurants, especially the family-led bar directly at the beach, which was only 5 minutes of walking distance.

It was a little bit far away from the small village, like 15 minutes walking distance. But for only 50 baht you could call a taxi.

Nicely located near the mouth of an estuary next to Klong Prao beach, Watercolours is a riverside resort, where guests can watch the world pass by at a leisurely pace. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and nicely decorated. We enjoyed taking a kayak out for a ride and eating at the restaurant overlooking the waters. The staff were attentive and helpful. Would confidently recommend to others.

Free beach towels and no time limit on using the kayaks and paddle boards without charge would be an improvement.

I loved the resort the minute I walked in. The location is beautiful. It is a 5 minute kayak ride and a 5 minute walk to a beautiful long beach. The resort is on a river. It is so peaceful and near to town and many restaurants. The river was perfect to swim in with lovely views. Quiet deck with stunning views of the river. The room was amazing, big, well designed, private, and so comfortable. The resort was very peaceful, with the small gardens and nature surrounding the resort. The staff made me feel at home. They were so kind and genuine. The menu was limited as you would expect at a small resort. The quality of the food was excellent. It was OK for me.it was convenient if I wanted to eat the resort. There are many great local restaurants that you can walk to from the resort. A few of them were directly on the ocean. It was a great value for the price. It was so nice I changed my stay at another resort from two weeks to one week to spend another week at Water Colours. I rarely give a 10 for a review. I could not find one thing I did not like. When I visit Koh Chang, I will stay at Water Colours.

Very nice place, beautifully located. Not far from the main street, and at the same time there is peace and quiet where you can relax. Delicious breakfasts, very friendly and helpful service. Highly recommended

Everything. Loved being able to get on a canoe and SUP. Such a peaceful location but only 15 mins walk from the main road where there are plenty of casual drinking spots, cheap eats and modern restaurants.

Warm welcoming staff and owners, stylish furnished rooms, comfortable beds, canoes and Kayak to use freely, May, the helper is very warm and helpful. The location on the river is great for an early morning swim, the sea is a 5 min walk away. There are nearby restaurants with various kinds of food. We had Thai food (Masaman curry) here at Watercolours, and it was delicious.

Personally, I liked everything!

We have been to the place two years ago and it was already nice at the time although we didn t like the bungalow rooms at that time. There are very nice new owners, the bungalows don t exist anymore and the other rooms are just really great and spacious. It is quite a peaceful, calm atmosphere, peaceful background music, comfy beds, clean, and exactly what we were looking for to chill. Of course, in this area it is nice to have a Scooter. And if you need something you just have to ask. If you like action and lots of people there are other places on the island. I rarely write reviews and also are suspicious with ten stars reviews but with this stay I was surprised in a positive way.

Very good place close to the river and beach and totally quiet and free kayak and you can swim in the river from the hotel directly

There was no dinner at the place but only few 100 m there was a beach restaurant and you could also walk 1,5 km to the city - so quiet but outside of town :)

I usually do not write detailed reviews but I had to for Watercolours. This place really makes you feel at home. The place looks beautiful and it is a true paradise. The owners are extremely helpful and involved. Any question I had about restaurants, snorkeling tours, fishing, beaches: they were ready to help. Every night we took the kayak to the beach where we watched the sunset and drank beers. With a short 5 minute scooter ride you are in the center of Koh Chang with great restaurants, a supermarket and other things to do. Thanks for the wonderful stay.

Shower water was Luke warm. It’s not a smoke friendly place but that’s fine because it’s a short walk to the beach

Off the beaten path but very safe, clean and enjoyable for anyone who values luxury tranquility. Easy to get to the beach and only about 20 mins stroll to the main road with all sorts of shops and restaurants. And they have a rain shower!!!

It's all good! Would definitely stay here again and recommend to others. It's not a lively, party sort of area so not suitable for people looking for that jazz.

The location

The first thing when we arrived was that the owner told us: Feel like home. And we did ❤️ Everyone is nice and the whole hotel feels like a big house. The lobby/restaurant is a very comfy place. Jumping in the morning in a Kajak or paddling to the ocean for the sundown.. just amazing ❤️ you can even swim to the beach :) very nice and comfy place in the mangroves (lots of fishes etc to watch!) And for us the best place where we could stay. Especially because of coco the cat, the warming and welcoming owner and the friendly staff :) Hope to see you again ^^

Absolutely beautiful location and amazing to have the free kayaks and paddleboards. Was really close to paddle to the beach for swims and beach bars. Some of the restaurants over the river offer a free ferry shuttle too. Really friendly owners and staff, we stayed for a week over Christmas and couldn't imagine anywhere better to spend it!
