Location was tremendous. Highly walkable. Outstanding hospitality by the team at Casa de la Asunción.
Private, beautiful, perfectly located steps off the zocalo.
This hotel was perfect - great central location, comfortable rooms and helpful staff. This is also a great example of good hospitality. The first room we were given had an issue with the air conditioning. So Violeta and her staff went out of their way to provide us with another room. This made our stay extremely comfortable. We really appreciated it. I would recommend this stay to everyone!
Violeta was the best. She has lots of recommendations and she is very helpful
Beautiful hotel in a prime location.
They used interior door between the room and balcony. It is very noisy at night.
Literally in the perfect location, right across from the main square and cathedral. The room was clean and large and comfortable with super high ceilings so that it felt larger than it was. It had a little balcony and felt like an old world European apartment. No breakfast provided but they did leave nice candy snacks and water for us and sodas and juice.
Breakfast or a coffee bar would have been nice. It was hard to get in the first time until we got the access card. People should know there's not really a reception desk or anyone "on duty" during off hours.
Great location, steps away from zocalo. Very quiet w/lovely cactii landscaping. Super comfy bed & La'occitane toiletries!
Small quibble, For smokers only:There was a large outdoor area, but smoking wasn't permitted. Perhaps the street side units w/small balconies do permit.
They could not have been nicer and more helpful. Amazing location and super well appointed rooms.
Nothing
Beautiful building and room steps away from the main square. Short walk to the big markets, restaurants, shops etc. well stocked toiletries and free drinks and snacks. Water takes a while to heat up but gets very hot and plentiful.
El trato. Habitaciones grandes. Bonito
Location was beautiful and so convenient. It was easy to reach everything in the historic center on foot. Violeta was so easy to reach even outside of normal hours and answered all of our questions quickly. The rooms and shared spaces were beautiful and spotless. Would stay here again in a heartbeat. The family room was especially nice and hard to find. It was great to have a separate but connected room for the kids. We loved sitting on the balcony with its view of everything happening on the Zocalo.
Beautiful hotel in an amazing location. Violeta was very kind and helpful.
nothing
Casa de la Asuncion is perfectly located in the middle of old Oaxaca. The hotel is in a charming old building and the rooms are very modern with fully up to date facilities. Violeta was extremely helpful making arrangements for everything we wanted to do.
Nothing.
Beautiful building and very cozy. Great central location.
Everything!
Nothing!
The location is magnificent. We were there at the Day of Dead. The parade goes in front of the hotel. We watched the whole parade from our room’s balcony, was amazing.
There was no breakfast, but there are lots of cafe’s and restaurants close to the hotel. They don’t change towels and sheets, they say they do it every 4 days, we were there for 3 days, we couldn’t catch it. The first day, I didn’t know the rule, so I throw the towels on the bathroom floor (like all the other hotels all over the world), but they got them from the floor and put it back to hanger🫣The windows and doors are not sound proof, the whole noise of the street and parade is in the room. If you have difficulty to sleep in the noise, definitaley don’t choose this hotel
The lady at the from desk was very helpful and kind. She was there with any question we had
Location was amazing, and the back rooms are very quiet
You have to be careful with the having the street-facing room, which is super noisy
The interior of this hotel is absolutely beautiful. The courtyard, columns and wide staircase were built with the cantera, seen in many historic buildings around Oaxaca.
The hotel was spacious and very comfortable.
That there were no elevators.
Excellent location, and great customer service

Beautiful boutique hotel with modern rooms. We stayed at the Amatista room which was quite spacious and clean. We chose one without a balcony for a more quiet stay since the hotel is practically across the zocalo. It was also nice that the hotel was right across the city center and walking distance to pretty much everything. Violeta, who I think is the owner, was super nice and attentive. Will definitely stay there again!
Great location and very clean
Because it was very near the Zocalo it was noisy sometimes
Close to the zocalo! Tons of restaurants and cafes nearby. Violeta at the property was amazing! She had great recommendations, was very attentive and made our stay so pleasant!
beautiful rooms. balcony overlooking zocalo.could hear the festival music each night. central to everything. no hassle, private entry/exit
the beds were so,so hard. so hard they ruined our trip because we all (even young kids) couldn't sleep without frequently waking from pain. stiff necks and backs next day. I'm still recovering :( the towels are like sandpaper...switch to better detergent to provide some luxury for price
My husband and I had the best stay at Casa de la Asuncion. It was the first stop in our four week trip around Mexico - and it is definitely a highlight so far. Location was unbeatable, in the middle of everything with all major attractions and food spots with in walking distance. Rooms were huge and clean, great amenities. But it was the staff that absolutely made the stay great. Violeta was contactable via WhatsApp before we checked in and was super flexible on check in time (we got in really late). We encountered some issues with our ADO bus to Puerto Escondido when we checked out and Violeta was an amazing help. She called the company to find out more, researched other travel options for us and allowed us to keep our bags in the room until our new departure time. She made a challenging situation as stress free as possible. We would highly recommend this accommodation to anyone travelling to Oaxaca.
Nothing, everything was great
Beautiful old courtyard villa renovated with modern amenities.
The building is beautiful, tastefully decorated. The room has high ceiling, is spacious and clean. The location is central, close to the Zocalo thus very convenient, walkable to all the main sites and good restaurants. Violeta, the hotel manager is very nice and helpful.
The building is beautiful and well maintained. We stayed at the Malaquita suite ( 2 connecting bedrooms each has its own bathroom). The rooms have high ceilings and are spacious, clean.
Great location and very helpful host I highly recommend it
The hotel was charming and in a truly fantastic location in the heart of the old city, less than a block from the Cathedral plaza and about a block from the main Zocalo. It was easy to walk pretty much everywhere we wanted to go and felt very safe doing so. The staff in the hotel, particularly Violeta although there weren't a lot of others, were incredibly warm, friendly, welcoming and very helpful and informative. The room was clean and a reasonable size with an excellent bathroom with a shower I wish I had at home. There was a small balcony overlooking the street from which it was very pleasant to watch the activities below. (The photo is of a parade that passed below us.) At first we were a little worried that the room was directly over a fairly busy street, but the windows are very good and the noise level was surprisingly minimal. We slept too late each morning as it was so comfortable and quiet.
It is hard to think of anything. The hotel does not serve breakfast. That might bother some people. It was fine for us as we preferred walking around to the nearby really great cafes and bakeries for breakfast. In particular I can recommend Boulenc bakery and cafe that is about a block away, and many of the stalls in the 20 November market which isn't far either and has great, typical Mexican breakfasts, as well as a lot of other great things to eat.
This is a great location to be when staying in Oaxaca. It is a very charming and clean property and the owner is very friendly and accommodating. The bathroom in our room was very nice and clean. The room itself was nice and comfortable. We would certainly stay again.
It was very attractive, quiet, clean and seemed almost new.
Nothing
While breakfast was not included (no kitchen facilities onsite), that was not an issue, as there were several restaurant / coffee shop options within easy walking distance of Casa de la Asuncion, and given its location in El Centro.
The location could not be better. The property was very unique and quite interesting. The staff, particularly Violoeta are fantastic.
Plastic, no garaphon to refill water, not ecco friendly as described
Street noise but I guess you can’t overlook the street without noise.
This small boutique hotel, 6 or 7 rooms only, has an excellent location steps away from the historic and lively downtown area. Despite its proximity to the main tourist square, the hotel itself is secure and peaceful. Our spacious and spotless room was upstairs, overlooking a small courtyard, with windows opening on to it. Breakfast is not provided but Tito's, a local restaurant, is virtually next door and was recommended by our concierge. Coffee and tea were provided in the room, plus 4 small bottles of water per day. We only had to supplement this once during our 4 day visit. Violetta, our charming concierge, was available either in person or 24 hours a day on WhatsApp. She arranged a great private tour for us, custom-made to go to the places we wanted to visit and organized our return to the airport. Don't just think about it: stay here! You'll be lucky if there's a room available!
Nothing!
Excellent location on the city center, and our room with a balcony was large and clean.
It's on the main road, so it's very loud at night, particularly whenever there's an electrified group playing, which was every night until close to midnight.
Convient location to restaurants, tours, shopping. The staff was very helpful in getting us transportation to the airport, as well as buying local event tickets.
The location is great, right in the middle of the Centro district. If you have a room on the street side, it can be a bit noisy . The staff is amazing. The owners daughter was especially kind and accommodating.. the front desk person was wonderful as well.
The only problem was we chose to have a balcony which was pretty sweet, but being so close to the park, it was a bit noisy( no fault of the property owners,). But I would definitely stay there again.
Perfect location just off the central square, easy Walt yo great food, galleries, and markets.
I stayed in apartment with balcony overlooking the street. Everything i wanted to visit in the zocalo area was walking distance. Beautiful bldg and interior.
Excellent location, helpful staff, tasteful room
It was loud at night, it took a long time for the shower to get hot.
This is an amazing place. Right in the middle of where we wanted to be and walking distance to everything we really enjoyed. Super clean. Very secure and private. Valeria was super nice and very gracious. Bathrooms are big and very clean nice.
Maybe some pastries and juice in the morning...
Centrally located and beautiful rooms
Lots of street noise at all hours of the day including past midnight
Don’t think about it. Just book it. This was an amazing stay for our family of 3. Everything had been thought of to make us comfortable & the personalized service we received was amazing. The location is unbeatable. This is a lovely hotel that has historic charm but completely modern amenities. We will stay here again & send our friends & family.
There is nothing about it that we did not enjoy. The hotel provided plenty of towels, drinking water & toiletries as needed. We stayed during the Day of the Dead festivities & I asked for extra face cloths to wash off our festival makeup, so they left an entire package of disposable face wipes for us. Truly above and beyond first class service.
It's a beautiful property in a great location. I'd definitely book it again.
I failed to read the small print and managed to book a room without aircon in the summer! Not ideal! I learned my lesson! Next time I'll be sure to check the weather and book a room with aircon, if necessary.
Beautiful and great location
Beautiful; great staff: Violeta and Lucy.
The location was wonderful. The hotel was quiet and clean. I appreciated the details of coffee, snack, umbrellas in the room.
We stayed in a family room that had two bathrooms. We were getting ready for a wedding and both were blow drying our hair when the fuse went out. There was no one at the property to help use. We had the finish getting ready in the dark. There should always be a phone number available for emergencies and there was not one available.
Beautiful and excellent location!! Extremely clean!! We loved the quietness and tranquility!!
We loved it!!
Beautiful, Clean place
Everything was perfect.
The hotel was beautiful. Our room was spacious and had everything we needed. The hotel was walking distance from Zocalo square. I also have to add that violeta was amazing!
Beautiful hotel. exceptional, safe, friendly and kind staff, very helpful with surroundings.
Very helpful and accommodating staff. Airline lost luggage from Mexico City?!? The team there helped with retrieving it quickly.
We loved the hotel. Great location, and Violeta was brilliant. The hotel was a few minutes' walk to all the top sights. The only issue was that the hot water took time to come on. Also there was a leaky roof and so when it rained the rain came through. However, once staff members were informed of this, the matter was sorted out almost immediately. Great stay.
Leaky roof, air-conditioning dripping, and hot water not coming through immediately.
Perfect location, very helpful and friendly staff and a really big, comfortable and clean room
Quite noisy from other people staying in accommodation and on the street but location is very central so this can be expected
Location is superb. You are either there or 10-12 minute walk away from it, restaurants, bars, bakeries, cathedrals, central markets, local markets, gift shops, banks, …all there
The building is renovated and repurposed. You enter a courtyard with a palatial staircase leading to upper floor. Our room was airy, bright, large cool, with two French balconies opening to street…room was extremely well furnished and supplied.
A beautiful Casa made up of 7 bedrooms, with Spacious Morden cultured rooms. Very Clean bathrooms. Kind and helpful front desk with communication by what’s app if not on site. Calm surroundings. The location is 10/10, very close to the main square (few minutes away). Request a room at the back and the noise will not affect you if your an earlier sleeper.
A skylight in our room woke us up naturally, so on days you want a lay in, could be harder as can’t avoid the natural light.
Excelent location, spacious and clean rooms. Only issue is that no service at night, bathroom doors lock need maintenance and need a key to open…. They need to be replaced for safety and comfort
It was very centralized Violeta was very helpful and responsive Property was very clean and comfortable
Wish it had a sitting area to just hangout
Location, room, amenities and host, Violeta. Always there to help or greet.
The location was terrific right off the Zocalo. The room was well appointed. Violet at the front desk was incredibly helpful. We would highly recommend this place if you want something central.
Breathtaking historic building in the center of Oaxaca only steps to the Zocolo. The rooms were spacious, modern and extremely clean. Violeta was incredibly warm, helpful and communicative.
Nothing
The room was large, new and quite clean, and had a very modern bathroom.
For a colonial city and a colonial building, this hotel was notably absent of charm (easy to get in Oaxaca). It had no outdoor seating, no courtyard seating, no rooftop seating (common also in Oaxaca) and no food amenities. Furthermore, it was half a block from the cathedral plaza which hosts, every night until late at night, very loud street performances which echo through the hotel. The upper level of the hotel, where all the rooms are located, is also shared with a fluorescent-lit beauty salon which does not add to the charm of the place.
Beautiful and historic.
Nothing.
