Igloo as glass house
Expensive sauna and breakfast
Very beautiful and peaceful setting. Never seemed busy even though the hotel was quite full. Very helpful and friendly staff. Excellent restaurant, the breakfast was very good and dinner superb but choices were a bit limited. The glass box bedroom is quite an experience with or without the aurora.
For cross country skiers access to the pistes was not indicated. First impressions count and when you approach the main lodge building from the car park it doesn’t look great.
The atmosphere feels like sleeping in the middle of nature, surrounded by pine forests. The rooms are beautiful and well designed. The breakfast is delicious.
Sauna should be complimentary
Magical place. Beautiful location. Amazing facilities surrounded by nature
Nice kamer.
Geen noorderlicht gezien. En extra bijbetalen voor de sauna.
The stay was magical. The views were incredible, the sauna and spa amazing, the restaurant meal was divine and we felt like we had the entire national park to ourselves.
It was wonderful - not a single issue or complaint.
The cabin was fabulous. It was very cosy and the view looking out at the trees is indescribable. There’s no tv however, we never needed it as we spent our time looking out at the view or watching for northern lights. Location was about 10mins from the town where we had a lovely meal and we also ate at the restaurant on site which although expensive was very nice.
The view from the rooms and the restaurant were good. The one lady was very sweet and helpful.
Our check in person was quite unfriendly. It felt like she kept trying to make us leave and come back later. We had requested an early check in which was accepted and then she told us the room wouldn’t be ready and that they charge for late check in. I let her know we had requested early check in and she told us to go into town and come back later. We asked if we could stay and have lunch there and she reluctantly agreed. When we finally checked into our room it smelled terribly of sewerage. We let the lady on duty know and she tried to help with the smell, but it was really awful having to keep the door open in the freezing cold to manage the stink. The sauna and jacuzzi were a very expensive extra we had booked for my birthday. The sauna was dirty and smelly and the juccuzi had brown scum on top. I really wouldn’t recommend this.
The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful. We were always welcomed with a smile, no matter the staff member. The rooms were comfortable and we got to see the Aurora Borealis from bed on two of the nights! No better way to spend our Christmas!
There was an odd smell, potentially from the drains, that was present the whole stay.
Petit dejeuner fabuleux rien à redire, restaurant idem
The view is absolutely breathtaking — you can literally see the Northern Lights right above you! Breakfast was delicious and already included in the booking, which was a nice touch.
The only downsides: it’s about 50 minutes away from Levi center, and there was a wooden smell in the room — but honestly it’s expected since you’re in the middle of nature. Also, the bathroom is quite small.
Truly an unspeakable experience. We visited in January 2025 to enjoy the Finnish winter, and this place provided an unforgettable time. We were lucky enough to see the aurora on our first night. Their spa facilities are excellent, and they even offer an ice bath experience in the river (we were too scared to try—lol). The cracking sounds in the forest were unlike anything we've experienced before. At first, it feels strange and intimate, but once you realize it's the sound of wood cracking due to the extreme cold, it becomes part of the unique natural experience. Coming from the U.S., we'd never heard anything like it. Interestingly, when we visited Saariselkä afterward, we didn’t hear that sound again—truly a one-of-a-kind memory. Overall, we had a great time. One small issue: we had heater problems twice during our 3-night stay. However, the maintenance team responded immediately and resolved the issue quickly. I believe this has likely been fully resolved by now. Oh, and their glögi? The best we had in all of Finland (we had glögi every day—lol). A truly wonderful experience.
The room is spectacular, and the view is incredible. Its remote location makes it fantastic for watching the auroras. The breakfast covers the essentials, though it isn’t spectacular. The heated floor, the air conditioning system, and the insulation all work excellently—so well that we had to set the temperature a bit low because we started feeling warm at night.
Customer service is non-existent; they couldn’t care less about giving you a proper welcome. It would have been better if the place were a self-managed Airbnb. From the moment we arrived at the parking lot, the bad experience began. There’s no signage indicating where the reception is; the first door you see is the kitchen door with all the garbage. After spending five minutes scrutinizing photos, we finally managed to decipher the entrance, but during all that time, the receptionist didn’t even budge to help us—despite knowing that a car had parked there. After filling out the necessary paperwork, we were told we had to unload our suitcases using a sled down a steep path. The suitcases would fall, get wet, and hit you as you went downhill. It was a terrible experience, especially after later discovering that there is a path suitable for our rental car to unload the luggage directly to the room—and not a single hotel staff member was available or willing to help. Having an ATV or golf cart to give you a ride could be an improvement. The entrances to the rooms are covered in slippery ice; you need to be careful. First, to avoid slipping, and second, to try not to bring too much snow inside, as the vestibule/mudroom area is very small and soon you end up on the bed. The closet for storing your clothes is very small; the wall is large but not used efficiently. You end up with your clothes either packed in the suitcase or scattered on the floor—simply awful. At breakfast, there is an additional charge for hot chocolate—an outrageous surcharge. It’s listed among the drink options on the menu without any written notice or indication from the staff that it would incur an extra cost and be added to the room bill. It was very unpleasant to find out at check out that I had been charged 6 euros for a hot chocolate. Once we were settled in, we looked for the hotel’s Wi-Fi, only to find out they don’t have it.
You pay over $500 per night and then you don’t even get access to Wi-Fi in the room, the hot tub, and spa facilities. They want to charge you extra for those. It is extremely overpriced and not a good value. The room was nice and it was beautiful, but I would not recommend paying more than $200 for something like this because it is a very small room and you do not get much else.
My boyfriend and I spent 2 weeks in Lapland this past Christmas. Magical! :) The first place we stayed was Arctic Skylight Lodge. Snow covered everywhere. Cute rooms with amazing views. Wonderful service. Great restaurant on property by the way. Definitely make a reservation for dinner. We went snowmobiling with a local service and it was THEE BEST snowmobiling we had our entire stay. The trails and scenery were amazing. Definitely recommend staying here. You won't be disappointed.
We spent one night in late March at Arctic Skylodge and it was magical. The cabin was warm, the bed was incredibly comfortable and we saw a little bit of aurora activity! So nice that you don’t have to go outside to see them. You can see the entire sky from the glass cabin. Breakfast was delicious and they also have gluten free options. We unfortunately didn’t get to have dinner here as the chef was unwell. But we did get a good tip from the receptionist to eat at Los Lompolo’s - a mix of Finnish and Mexican cuisine. It was delicious (get the churros!).
We were travelling with our EV and it would have been good if Arctic Skylodge had a car charger as there are only three fast chargers in Äkäslompolo and they were all taken when we went to charge. Tip: if you have a lot of stuff, it’s best to drive down to your cabin and unload rather than trying to take everything down the hill in the snow to your cabin. We were the second last cabin so it was quite far from reception.
We were lucky to see strong auroras from our bedroom - spectacular! Breakfast had all you could wish for, including a choice of freshly cooked options. Dinner was superb in both quality and presentation. Skiing track passes right behind the property. Super friendly and helpful staff.
Location is some 5km outside Äkäslompolo, best reached by car.
We had a very nice three course dinner. The food was excellent and the service friendly, professional yet down to earth. Five/five to excellent service. Would strongly recommend, even though it is a 10 min taxi ride from the Äkäslompolo village.
Excellent experience. Great view.
I like everything.
The cabin is wonderful
Should have shuttles available to nearby town.
Fantastic super kind staff, the restaurant on site was incredible, and the glass cabins were beautiful! We absolutely loved our stay! Only negative to note which was not that big of a deal is on the shower there is a sign that says you only have 15 minutes of hot water per hour and in our experience we had about 9 minutes before it was freezing cold. All in all, we had a great experience and would definitely recommend!
Most amazing experience! We had such a great time in this lodge! The room was incredible, we could see northern lights from our bed, the location is super beautiful and peaceful! We had dinner there at the restaurant and the food was truly incredible! Kudos to the chef !!! Would definitely recommend and be back soon!
Nothing
The check in/out process was easy. All of the front desk workers were helpful and accommodating. The cabin was so cozy, perfect for a couple. The restaurant was phenomenal. We had the breakfast daily (which was included) and then opted for the dinner experience. The food was fantastic and all locally sourced with an unforgettable Finnish touch. We did have a great time using the luggage sled for our own enjoyment sledding down the hill to the sauna area.
I would not recommend staying here if you have limited mobility since the trail to get down to the cabin requires that you pull a sled with your luggage behind you (we did not mind this personally), but don't bring tons of bags with you! The bathroom in the cabin did make you feel like you were camping somewhat with the shower opening up to the toilet and it was a very small space with limited hot water (this was made clear with signage which was a great heads up). If you stay here, I would recommend having a personal car since it is quite a walk to get to the main town area. Another option could be cross country skis which a lot of the locals used to get around rather than driving. If you do excursions though, most will accommodate to pick you up at the lodge. Although we absolutely loved staying in this area, I do think the stay was overpriced. In addition, they had a sauna/ice hole on the property but we opted out of this since it was another additional unnecessary cost outside of what we were already paying (should absolutely be included in stay rate).
Very nice and calm location. Views from the cabin were amazing and could see the norther lights from them. Very friendly staff. We booked the 3-course dinner which was delicious and the space is cozy. Breakfast was also delicious and with lots of choices
We booked the finnish sauna which didnt met the expectations. The facilities were a bit far from the cabins, with no lighting at all on the way so it was very confusing to reach there and not safe at all with no lights and snow/ice all over. The jacuzzi was quite cold so we didn't use it; I would recommend to not offer its service if it can't be warm enough at very low temperatures. You need to carry your own towel from the room to be used in the sauna and then come back in the cold weather with a wet towel if you want to use it when back in your room (which got frozen on the way back to the room at -30 degrees). No glasses or drinking water available in the sauna facilities. In my opinion, for the price paid, this experience should be much improved to be worth it.
It was stunningly beautiful and way more affordable than similar places further south
It would be good if they could make some recommendations on how to manage the heat so the windows don’t fog up, because when that happens and you lose the view it sort of defeats the purpose.
Everything! So serene and beautiful. Got the most magnificent aurora show from bed.
Everything was perfect.
The Arctic Skylight Lodge is a hidden gem located just outside the Akaslompolo city center, making it the perfect escape for aurora hunters. We were lucky enough to witness the Northern Lights dancing across the sky, and the view from our room with its three-sided mirror windows was simply breathtaking! The room itself was a cozy haven with a comfortable bed, a coffee and tea, hot water pot and refrigerator. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful. Breakfast was a delightful mix of à la carte and buffet options, with fresh and local ingredients. Overall, our stay at the Arctic Skylight Lodge was truly magical. It was the perfect blend of comfort, privacy, and natural beauty. We highly recommend it to anyone seeking a romantic and unforgettable getaway in Lapland. I think this version should be fine.
The food in the restaurant was incredible. Some of the tastiest soups I’ve ever eaten. We loved everything about the stay
Good clean glass walls and ceiling. Good view of the starry sky and aurora.
We got to see the aurora from our bed! The room is surprisingly warm and comfortable. Hot water is adequate for us, even though it is limited.
My friend’s room door lock got jammed in the middle of the night, a staff came to help unlock it but she also said that she wouldn’t come back again to help if it reoccurs, so that is not nice.
Amazing cottage, amazing view, beautiful interior
It pains me to write this review because the lodge was beautiful, I loved the room, the location, the sauna and jacuzzi, the meals, and the staff. However, my one complaint is so bad that it cancelled out all the rest. Although the name is the Arctic Skylight Lodge and specifically caters to people looking to see the Northern Lights, there is no aurora alarm like at similar hotels and all staff leaves the resort at 10pm. They told me to download a $10 app that would alert me if and when the lights came out, which I did, and when I checked into the room discovered that there was no cell reception whatsoever. So basically, if you wanted to make sure not to miss the lights, you had to stay awake the entire night, which I wasn't willing to do. Apparently, there were amazing lights around midnight during my stay, but I was sleeping and missed them. Luckily, they did show up around 2:30am (although much weaker by all accounts) and I was able to see them from the comfort of my room. But bottom line, this situation was just a complete and utter letdown.
Beautiful accommodation in a serene environment. Breakfast included was really good. Me and my boyfriend had dinner at their restaurant as well, also very much recommended!
I think the price is a bit too high for what you get. The accommodation is relatively small and basic (it doesn't have a kitchenette for example). We also didn't use the sauna, because that was another €150 extra for 1.5 hours. I think there are many other accommodations that have a sauna included and cost less, but we only stayed for 1 night so it was a cool experience anyhow!
We totally enjoyed our time here. The staff was so attentive and helpful and would definitely stay here again!
Stunning location - winter wonderland! So peaceful and quiet
I liked it all.
my experience was far from what I expected, especially considering the price I paid (over $500 for one night). Upon checking into my lodge, there was a noticeable sewage odor throughout the room. At first, I assumed it might be temporary, so I went to enjoy the sauna and dinner. However, when I returned later that evening, the smell had worsened significantly, making the room nearly unbearable to stay in. I reported the issue to the front desk, but to my surprise, the only “solution” offered was water, which was both unacceptable and dismissive given the severity of the problem. I would have expected a more appropriate response, such as a room reassignment or at the very least, a genuine effort to address the situation. The next morning, the smell had intensified so much that I had to leave the room door open just to tolerate being inside. The odor was so overpowering that I couldn’t even pack my luggage properly. Instead, I had to gather my clothes by hand and take them to the front desk because staying in the room for more than a few minutes was impossible. What disappoints me most is the lack of care or urgency from the staff in handling this issue. This level of service does not align with the premium price I paid for the stay. A hotel at this price point should offer exceptional comfort and service, yet I experienced the exact opposite. I am writing this review because I believe others should be aware of the lack of basic room quality and service responsiveness at this property. I hope the management addresses these issues moving forward, but based on my experience, I cannot recommend staying here.
.
Awesome cabin directly in the woods. Very cozy and impressive and an awsome location for nothern light watching. everything was very comfortable and cleand and an awesome breakfast was provided, too.
We had a wonderful experience staying in Arctic Skylight Lodge. The cabin is lovely and comfortable, and the experience of sleeping under the glass roof is absolutely amazing. We loved the feeling of being surrounded by the forest while inside, and didn't even want to close the curtains. There is an option to entirely block the view from neighbours, but we wanted to keep it as open as possible. In the evening we just laid in the bed and looked at the starry sky on top of us, unfortunately no Northern Lights at that night, but we managed to see 2 falling stars! The cabin is not extremely spacious, but it is pleasant in size, not tiny. Nice furniture, comfy bed and quality bedlinen. Also extra credits to the restaurant, the food was amazing. Would definitely go again!
There was a bit of unpleasant smell in the toilet, but it wasn't a big deal. It was difficult to find a plug to charge the phone, there was none near the bed, so you have to leave the phone at the desk.
Beeakfast was so colourful and healthy varity of fruits, salads, salami, youghart and granola with berry jam, and the bread basket was so attractive with different selection of croissant and brown bread. We had selection of berry juices, tea and coffee. The breakfast was made special for us. We informed them of the convinent time.
We needed to be advised the was no wifi in the room prior, however you can access wifi at the lobby. You have to pay to access Hot tub and suana and book it prior to prepare it, it’s not includes in the package if you only book a room! Otherwise it was an amazing experince!
The view and the northern light
The breakfast was a bit plain, and the bread was dry
Fantastic and secluded location plus beautiful wide spaced cottages. Very good restaurant
The place, the forest and surrounding are magnificent. The restaurant food is above expectations.
Nothing. Everything was perfect.
Overall, very clean and the pictures showed a true picture of the accommodation. The restaurant and food were very good and definitely worth the money.
The air in the room is very dry, as the main source of the heating was the AC. The room was very well isolated, which usually is a plus. But it was maybe too good, as the room temperature was really high, especially for sleeping.
Amazing lodge with three glass sides. The view when you wake up is just breathtaking. Staff was very helpful. Restaurant was out of this world a definite place to put on your bucket list to stay.
The location was perfect. It was far enough away from the road but not remote. The entire staff was delightful, informative and made us feel at home. The food was top notch - could deserve a Michelin rating!
Access to our cabin and the sauna/hot tub was a bit precarious. When we commented about the ice near our door they immediately cleared that but the road to and from slippery. We did manage though when we mentioned it and they provided walking sticks.
