Guestling Hall Hotel

A really lovely location set back in the trees a short distance from the Hastings to Rye road. All the staff we met were really friendly and helpful. The room was clean and comfortable, just the right temperature for us and even though we faced the front there was never any traffic noise. The Full English breakfast was tasty and set us up for the day perfectly. We always like to be able to get out and about and we did a great circular walk on footpaths starting directly opposite the hotel entrance.

Very shabby run down. Strong smell of damp. Hadn’t been cleaned for a long time. No mattress protector on bed which is a basic hygiene issue. We found period blood on toilet seat, pubic hair in bath and snot on the side of the sink. I have seen better student accommodation.

Das Management funktioniert nur mäßig. Am Abreisetag mussten wir lange auf das Frühstück warten. Zimmerservice brauchen wir eigentlich nie, aber der Papierkorb könnte mal geleert werden.

Die Lage ist sehr gut und sehr ruhig. Das Personal sehr freundlich.

Wir waren jetzt das dritte mal zu Gast gewesen und ich muss sagen der Zustand des Hotels wurde leider nicht besser. Alles in allem müsste dringend von Grund auf saniert werden oder mindesten alles gründlich gereinigt. Im Frühstücksraum hängen die Spinnweben an der Decke und die Platzdeckchen sind voller Speisereste. Das ganze Anwesen könnte sehr schön sein aber es liegt alles mögliche auf dem Gelände und der kleine Park ist verwildert. Es tut mir wirklich leid das sagen zu müssen und hoffe es wird wieder besser.

The building has enormous character and contains really tasteful furniture and antiques. The staff are amazing. It's really peaceful and in a brilliant location.

Kamer was heel klein. Badkamer stonk, waarschijnlijk door de grote kieren in de vloer. Een bar zonder bier, een ontbijt zonder normale yoghurt of gekookt ei. Pand en tuin verwaarloosd.

The entrance hall and sitting room were eclectic in their decoration and lovely.

The curtain could have been able to fully close. The curtain could have been of a dark colour, and not white, to keep out the morning light. It could also be of a heavier material to cut out some of the traffic noise from the road. The carpet in the bedroom could be replaced with a darker one that doesn't have stains and markings on it. The carpet and room must be cleaned, and not have bits of whatever under the bed. The breakfast should have better ingredients offered, not cash and carry condiments, and not cheap sliced bread, cheap pots of flavoured yoghurt, and microwaved porridge. The floor of the dining room still had food on it from the day before!

* The room traps heat really badly, with open windows and fans no help. It wasn't the hottest day this summer, and it was still far too hot to get decent sleep. * £10pp breakfast: ran out of both hash browns and mushrooms, the driest scrambled egg, hot water jug for coffee out of water, hair in my food. * The room quite decrepid looking, with peeling paint. Shower didn't seem particularly clean either, with yellow staining on the floor and dead flies in the corner. * Hear some other guests complaining about their toilet seat coming off, and the flushing system broken.

De warmte op de zolderkamer en de douche/toilet een verdieping lager.

It’s in a gorgeous setting. It’s an old house but they have made this a feature (along with having all mod cons of course). Lovely wood flooring and original fire places. The room was clean, bright and airy. The shower had excellent pressure. The bed was comfy. The breakfast was tasty. It’s pet-friendly so we got to fuss some lovely dogs. What more do you need! The managers are a lovely couple who clearly love the hotel.

Freundliches Personal.

Dieses Hotel war früher sicherlich einmal ein echtes Juwel. Das Gebäude selbst ist wunderschön und hat viel Charme. Leider wirkt heute alles sehr in die Jahre gekommen und ungepflegt. In den öffentlichen Bereichen liegt viel Staub, und insgesamt fehlt es an Sauberkeit und Pflege. Unser Zimmer war grundsätzlich in Ordnung, das Badezimmer hingegen war enttäuschend. Es waren überall Haare zu finden, und die Fugen zwischen den Fliesen waren teilweise verschimmelt. Unser Eindruck ist, dass dem Hotel vermutlich die finanziellen Mittel für notwendige Renovierungen fehlen. Mindestens genauso auffällig ist jedoch, dass es an Liebe zum Detail und an einer konsequenten Instandhaltung mangelt. Es wirkt nicht so, als würde sich jemand regelmäßig und mit der nötigen Sorgfalt um Wartung und Pflege kümmern. Das einzige wirkliche Highlight waren die freundlichen Mitarbeiter, die stets bemüht und hilfsbereit waren. Das ist besonders schade, denn man erkennt sofort, welches Potenzial dieses Hotel einmal hatte und auch heute noch hätte.

We have the tiniest bathroom that was difficult to navigate. It was down stairs from our attic bedroom which was unbearably hot. The bathroom was on the fire escape route and didn’t feel very private or secure. Although our room was clean the whole place needed modernisation

The staff were very welcoming and couldn't do enough for me.

The hotel has recently changed hands and as a consequence they are suffering a few teething issues with their internet and currently a lack of a chef. Didn't really affect my stay but I know some guests were less than happy.

PROPERTY IS RUN DOWN AND IN NEED OF A MAJOR OVERHAUL. NO WIFI WHEN ADVERTISED WITH IT. NO FOOD AVAILABLE AGAIN ADVERTISED WITH IT, NO AIRCON OR FAN ON HOTTEST NIGHT OF THE YEAR, WINDOW WAS LEFT OPEN. BUT NOISEY ROAD NEXT TO HOTEL. GOT OUT AS QUICKLY AS I COULD AFTER A VERY UNCOMFORTABLE NIGHT. STAFF WERE LOVELY AND FRIENDLY AND NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR THE STATE OF THE PLACE.

Staff were kind and helpful, especially Chad who helped with a booking when the Wi-Fi was not in operation due to Open Reach working in the area. Lovely unusual decor downstairs.

It was noisy by the main road but the location was lovely apart from that. The staff are aware of the need of the work that needs doing in the hotel, mainly outside.

Great stopover on the way to Cornwall

Nous avons apprécié d'avoir une suite familiale ou chaque enfant avait sa chambre. La salle de bain était grande et propre. Le personnel a été très accueillant et serviable. La salle de petit déjeuner est très agréable.

Un ventilateur dans la chambre aurait été un plus.

Slecht ontbijt. Yoghurt van de Lidl etc. Ontbijt begint om 08:00 General manager welke ook het ontbijt zou moeten verzorgen kwam om 08:00 met een slaperig hoofd, in beeld. Ontbijt was niet voorbereid. Geen eten, geen koffie, geen thee. Niets. (Wij moesten de boot halen .. Met wat toast en marmelade achter de kiezen zijn we snel vertrokken en hebben 3 uur later op de boot wat ontbeten.) Muziek ging storend hard aan in de keuken waarop ik zelf de keukendeur gesloten heb waarna de muziek nog harder werd gezet! Alle gasten hadden hier last van. Beter stoppen bij een tankstation! We hebben op de heen en terugreis hier verbleven. Dit is structureel te noemen. Niet goed.

We had a pleasant stay in a friendly charming hotel. The hotel hosts were wonderful, all the things we had for a breakfast were great, good beds and great wifi.

The hotel could use some tlc.

Exceptionally friendly and helpful reception by Bethany, the ass. manager. Gave us a room upgrade and advice where to eat as in-house dining was temporarily unavailable. Ample private parking available. Will come again when visiting this part of the country.

The outside of this beautiful Victorian mansion needs some maintenance I’m afraid, will lift the appearance to where it should be.

Staff were doing their best in difficult circumstances. Obviously trying to sort leaks, no housekeeper.

The hotel isn't in great condition. The carpets were dirty. The rooms not as clean as I would expect. If we hadn't already paid on booking.com I would have refused to pay the fee charged. The family room on the top floor isn't great. Luckily we only had 2 guests - the third bedroom had rubble of some kind on the bed.

Great choice of breakfast, well cooked. Lovely room and great view. Interesting garden. The hotel was an interesting mix of vintage and new which gave it a quirky feel which I loved. Lovely lounges with big comfy settees. I bet it's wonderful in the winter when the fires are lit in the hearth! Staff helpful and attentive without being invasive which was perfect! I had a lovely stay and I will definitely be back!

For Pokemon players only! - There is not a Pokemon-go poke stop within reach but I have submitted to Niantic two potential stops - the hotel sign and the unusual US postbox in the gardens so hopefully, fingers crossed, this will change for future!

The breakfast was good if you like a full English but expensive otherwise. The manager was very pleasant and helpful in dealing with problems. Earplugs were thoughtfully provided……

The state of the building generally and our room in particular was awful. The carpets were stained in places and clearly hadn’t even been vacuumed. The paintwork needs cleaning or repainting. Our room was a “deluxe” room, booked for my birthday. The window frame was filthy, a dead fly and dead moths on the windowsill. The bathroom had the smallest sink I have ever seen in a hotel and we had to call the manger to get it to empty. The outside of the shower cubicle was dirty, the floor tiles badly cracked, the toilet roll holder hanging off the wall, the mirror hung so high I could only see the top of my head, the shelf put up with no making good or painting round it and the cistern leaked water onto the floor at every flush.

Eigentlich nichts

Leider ist das Hotel in die Jahre gekommen, man versucht es zwar, attraktiv zu gestalten, aber es ist alles ziemlich abgewohnt, die Unterkunft war sowohl in den Gemeinschaftsräumen als auch im Zimmer nicht wirklich sauber. Im Frühstücksraum waren die Tische vom Vortag noch nicht gereinigt, der Fußboden voller Essensreste. Da überall Teppichboden ausgelegt ist, kann sich Jeder denken, was es da so gibt. Mit wenig Aufwand könnte man aus dem Hotel ein Schmuckstück machen, aber es scheint, dass daran kein Interesse besteht. In der Nacht , um kurz nach 2, wurden wir -ohne ersichtlichen Grund - von unserem Zimmerrauchmelder 2x lautstark geweckt. Das gleiche um 6:15 Uhr. Als wir dies beim Frühstück angesprochen haben, hieß es nur "das ist hier so,das passiert schon einmal". Im kleinen Bad war der Toilettenpapierhalter mit Doppelklebeband befestigt, was permanent abfiel. Wir können diese Unterkunft nicht empfehlen. Am 2. Tag war zumindest die neue Frühstückskraft freundlich.

De gastvrouw Beth was heel aardig en legde alles fijn uit. De kamer was erg ruim en de badkamer was netjes, met een fijne douche. We verbleven 1 nacht om om tijd bij de ferry in Dover te kunnen zijn. Dat was een uurtje rijden. Het pand is geweldig ingericht met heel veel mooie meubels en spullen!!

Het bed was heel groot maar niet comfortabel. De veren kraakten en het bed was heel onstabiel. De ontbijtruimte was mooi ingericht maar het kon wat schoonmaak gebruiken, de hoge raampartijen zaten vol spinnenwebben. De buitenkant van het pand had echt een opknapbeurt nodig

Es handelt sich bei der Unterkunft um ein schöne alte Villa, die im Kolonialstil eingerichtet ist. Die Zimmer sind ausreichend groß. Es liegt auf einer Einfallsstraße nach Hastings. Das Personal war sehr nett und hilfsbereit, jedoch gerade zum Frühstück überfordert. Was vermutlich an zu wenig Personal lag. Wir waren für eine Nacht als Übergangsstopp zwischen Cornwall und Folkstone dort. Dafür ist es absolut ausreichend. Einen längeren Aufenthalt würde ich in dem Zustand aber zur Zeit nicht empfehlen.

Wie oben bereits beschrieben, handelt es sich um eine sehr schöne alte Villa im Kolonialstil. Jedoch hatte es die besten Zeiten bereits hinter sich. Von nahem betrachtet, sieht es "abgewohnt" aus. Was sehr schade ist, denn das Potenzial für "High Class" sind definitiv vorhanden. Es bedarf einer dringenden Renovierung. Dementsprechend waren auch die Räume und Zimmer. Es war im Grunde alles vorhanden, allerdings schon sehr verbraucht. Eine beschriebene Bar bzw. ein Restaurant im Haus gab es nicht bzw. war an dem Abend evtl. nicht geöffnet (?). Dafür gab es Rabatt-Gutscheine für das. fußläufig in ca 5 Minuten) gut zu erreichende Steakrestaurant in unmittelbarer Nähe. Die Unterkunft lebt davon, dass das junge Personal alles versucht, um die Übernachtung trotzdem so schön wie möglich zu machen.

Mooie sfeervolle, nette en schone kamer in een Engels Landhuis hotel zoals je het verwacht. Prima locatie aan de rand van Hastings.

Wij zijn hier 2 jaar geleden ook geweest en toen was de beleving heel huiselijk. Dat misten we deze keer. Er waren wat personele problemen waardoor het afgesproken diner op het laatste moment niet door ging en op een ochtend de kok niet was komen opdagen voor het ontbijt. Dit gaf wel het gevoel dat regie en eigenaarschap beter opgepakt kan worden.

Im Zimmer oben drüber hab es einen Wasserrohrbruch und das war nicht der erste mal, wasser lief durch die Decke, Ergebniss Schimmel in den Zimmern, als Entschuldigung gab es 2 Drinks, aber genau abgemessen auf 2 cl, noch besser waren dann an beiden letzten Tagen das Frühstück, es gab fast nichts mehr, und der Betreiber ist lieber Motorrad gefahren als sich um das Essen und seine Gäste zu kümmern

Being such an old building you did hear floorboards when people moving around and drawers and doors opening and closing. They do provide ear plugs though.

Die Entfernung zum LeShuttle in Folkestone! Nach dem ersten Eindruck vom Hotel waren wir wenigstens vom Zimmer und Bad positiv überrascht! Das Bad war renoviert, und das sah auch gut aus! Alles weitere vom Hotel bewegt einem nicht gerade dazu länger als eine Nacht dort zu verweilen!

Für diese Hütte zusätzlich 20 Pfund für eine Nacht für einen Hund zu nehmen das ist schon eine Frechheit! Das Zimmer für eine Nacht war okay und Personal war auch freundlich, aber sonst gibt es da nichts positives zu erwähnen!

Room not what you expected. Still had Christmas decorations up and a weird trailer attached to the hotel. The family room was in fact two rooms with the kids room being away from you. In the the middle was a fire escape and anyone had access to it. The whole point of a family room is to be in the same room, in particular for the safety of your kids.

Leuk landelijk hotel, goede bedden. Lekkere douche en prima ontbijt. Eigenaren zijn zeer vriendelijk!

Hotel is in oud gebouw en daardoor erg gehorig. Hotel is gedateerd en renovatie is nodig, maar het is schoon, goede bedden dus als je hier doorheen kunt kijken is het een prima keuze.

The staff were very friendly and obliging and on their own initiative changed our room for a better one at no cost in order for us to have fewer stairs to cope with - we are elderly. The room was clean and comfortable, although judging by the occasional "bo-ing" the mattress will soon need replacing. The downstairs reception rooms are comfortable and full of interesting objects. The grounds are spacious. Despite some disappointment we had a comfortable and restful stay.

The lack of a chef in the kitchen meant that the evening menu was very limited. Unfortunate and unplanned no doubt, but from our point of view disappointing. When booking we had anticipated something more varied and of better quality. Cooked breakfast was fine but the browning bananas unappetising.

The staff were very pleasant and polite.

The breakfast was awful no poached eggs beans were awful flavour and texture and looked as if they had been boiled. Bacon was either not cooked enough or over cooked sausage tasted unpleasent as well.

Nice place very welcoming, nice clean room and bed, tea, coffee all in room, and staff were all very nice, which made it a laid back atmosphere.

Room was very hot in the night, and the window was a bit rickety, but better hot than cold, but not moaning.

Such an interesting house set in its own grounds. The reception rooms were lovely and full of interesting furniture and items from around the world. Our bedroom was well appointed with an excellent bathroom that included a long bath. Breakfast was good with a full choice of cooked items as well. The nearby road was quite busy but ear plugs were provided. Well worth a stay if you are in the area. Very dog friendly - our dog was welcomed warmly with a treat from the manager.

I think £20 for a small dog is a bit high. The mattress was too firm for me but ok for my husband

The hotel manager was very friendly and put up with my son who kept going down to the bar for drinks in the evening, (it was his birthday!) We really liked the quirky decor and that there were lounging rooms downstairs for our use.

Room was cold when we first arrived, but manager did sort it out quite quickly. Shame we couldn't have a twin bed option. As this was the hotel I chose, I had to share a bed with my son. Breakfast could have been hotter and if I remember they had run out of brown bread for toast.

The property was lovely and warm, despite it being quite old - looks like a new heating system may have been installed. The interior decor had an African theme (which we loved) and we understand the owner has links to education in Swaziland (Eswatini). Our room (9) was cosy and warm and it looks like a recently refurbished shower/bathroom. A welcome tray also included in the room.

I don't think we can say anything negative about the hotel or our experience.
