Quaint House Naoshima

Near the port

It was a very expensive stay - our most expensive room during a month of travel in Japan, much more than 4 star hotels — and we may have had high expectations; but its a run down previous (fisher?) village house, and the owners, who run many other facilities, charge you for everything including lounge wear. Has a large empty entrance tatami room, a cramped bedroom, and a kitchen that consists of a sink and a fridge. Its a place that is absolutely not worth staying at.

We didn't book breakfast, we got supplies from the convenience store that is close by.

Beautiful stay at the Cube, right next to Little Plum restaurant. Very easy to get to from the port, and located nice and close to the other cafes and bars. Very cute little spot!

Pictures definitely don’t do justice to how good and beautiful is this place. I thought it would be a small and basic room, but i walked into an huge, comfy and beautiful room. The location is perfect if you are coming from the main port. Great host too.

The place was clean. The twin beds were comfortable.

My teenage son had to sleep in a bunk bed set up in a cupboard. Felt the website pictures were misleading as the property has been split into three seperate rooms. Could not charge up any mobile devices due to old/dodgy electrical wiring.

Mi aspettavo molto peggio invece sono rimasto piacevolmente colpito. Ottimo lo staff con ristorante attaccato alla porta della camera.

La habitació feia olor a pols, es notava especialment a la zona del tatami i hi vàrem dormir bé.

Location was nice. Other than that very limited one room bedroom hotel.

Prefabricated bathroom so extremely small and uncomfortable. To leave the luggage for even 2 hours, they charge 200 yen per luggage. The restaurant was pretty dirty so I wouldn’t recommend.

Super gute Atmosphäre und leckeres Essen im dazugehörigen Restaurant, sehr praktische Lage mit Fahrradverleih zur Inselerkundung, schöner Aufenthaltsraum - ich würde wieder kommen!

Efficace pour découvrir l’île

Im Erdgeschoss großer Aufenthaltsraum, leider war keine Küche und Toilette in diesem vorhanden

Schlechter Empfang, Aufbewahrung der Koffer hat auch 200Yen gekostet und diese waren dann nicht auf dem Zimmer. Enge schmale Treppe und auch wenig Platz im Zimmer für Koffer

港から近く今回は利用しなかったけどレンタサイクルや夕食の予約ができる点は良かった

ごはんを別途予約するのでそのため追加費用がかかることからほぼ素泊まりだと考えると一泊の宿代と考えると高めの値段だと思う

Me gustó que estaba cerca del puerto. Que antes de hacer el check me permitieron dejar el equipaje. Me gustó la simplicidad u comodidad del lugar.

A ROACH ON MY BED! I was extremely disappointed with my stay and, even more so, with how the hotel handled a serious issue. During the night, I discovered a cockroach in my bed. Finding an insect of that size where you're supposed to sleep was shocking, unsanitary, and completely unacceptable. It made it impossible for me to feel comfortable or get a proper night's rest. What was even more disappointing was the hotel's response. While they apologized and explained that insects are common because the island is surrounded by nature, they refused to offer any meaningful compensation or refund. I understand that Naoshima is a natural environment, but guests pay for clean, safe accommodations. Regular pest control should minimize these situations, and when something this serious happens, the hotel should take responsibility rather than simply say it's unavoidable. Customer service is measured by how a business responds when something goes wrong. Unfortunately, I left feeling that my concerns were dismissed instead of genuinely addressed. I chose this hotel expecting a relaxing stay, but instead I left frustrated and disappointed. I hope management reconsiders how they handle situations like this in the future. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend staying here.

The place is comfortable and good enough for 2 people. All good, location perfect.

Beautiful apartment in a quiet traditional area. Very comfortable and close to the port and most importantly to proper espresso coffee (Mikazukishoten near the canal is about 50m away and is one of the few places in the area that isn't the dreaded filter coffee). We hired bikes (available at reception) for our stay which was absolutely the best way to see the island, the art and even some wildlife. Will be coming back.

Of you're tall make sure you bow when going through the doorways (ask me how I know).

The location is good.

The room was so dark and damp. It was really awful. The air was thick with moisture... I couldn't wait to leave every morning. The beds were uncomfortable and the shower was tiny and sprayed the whole bathroom.

The shower was disappointing, it was very hard to find a temperature between freezing cold and nuclear hot - this was particularly annoying after a long day of travel and cycling around the island! Also there was some bugs crawling around the room… they supplied bug spray but it was still kind of gross to have ant-like bugs crawling around the walls :/ the walls were also very thin and the fridge wasn’t switched on which was bizarre- we didn’t find out till the next morning that our food had gone bad because the fridge wasn’t plugged in in the first place? Felt a bit more like a hostel than a hotel

Sehr schönes, im Original nachgebautes kleines Guesthouse. Gemütlich! Die Lage ist optimal und sehr ruhig.

The hotel is a 2 minute walk from the ferry and convenient if you have a suitcase. They have bike rental on the property and the bike was electric and comfortable. It’s easy to bike to all the museums, but most of them are on the other side of the island. It was a great way to get around. There is a decent restaurant at the hotel and a cute coffee shop 3 minutes from the hotel. The AC in the room was great.

My room was small and the bed was really hard. Great if you’re into that, but I prefer a softer mattress. I could hear the restaurant and the neighbors talking.

Very nice to have a little kitchenette while on Naoshima - restaurants are not always open and it was a lifesaver to be able to prep some light meals in the kitchenette and keep snacks on hand. Cute room overall -- had a tatami mat and some quaint Japanese decorations. Felt very appropriate to stay here while touring the art island. Overall a pleasant, affordable place to stay on Naoshima. Excellent location right by the port, but still quiet.

It's not fancy or high-end but it's very pleasant. The layout and services (like AC) aren't perfect, but these are minor details -- our stay was nice.

I stayed in Cube 1 which is a cleverly re-purposed shipping container. It has everything you need for a comfortable stay including an ensuite with a bathtub, and a little table and chairs for meals. Quaint House is close to the ferry port of Miyanoura & although check-in times are limited they will store your luggage for free. There's a nice restaurant, Little Plum, right next door which serves chargrilled local fish. You can reserve a table when you check in. Despite its handy location, Cube 1 was quiet at night.

Au tarif de la chambre, inconcevable de devoir payer en plus pour faire stocker son bagage et pyjama payant du jamais vu. La chambre est sommaire, je m’attendais à ce qu’elle soit beaucoup plus charmante au vu des photos.

Posizione veramente comoda, vicina al porto e a tutti i ristorantini presenti su quella parte dell’isola. Camera molto ampia e con un piccolo tavolo.

Non trovò particolarmente corretto il dover pagare per il deposito bagagli in struttura, nonostante questo il prezzo del servizio è molto economico

Great location near the port, and for bicycle hire to explore the island.

Very small room, which we expected, with a tiny bathroom. Unfortunately our room was right next to the restaurant, which meant it was very noisy until the restaurant closed.

The location is convenient. Ferry and bike rentals are around the corner.

Paid luggage storage (200 yen per item), check-in time and front desk are closing early, scant amenities, like towels, water, shampoo, soap, coffee, tea. For this price you would expect much more and a cleaner room.

Bid room, very silent area. The facilities was good and it's very close to the ferry and to seven eleven.

Very clean and comfortable. Perfectly place to explore the island. Try the fresh fish menu at Little Plum - really tasty.

This house was close to the port which made everything easy. It was well designed with simple Japanese style. It had everything we needed and was very spacious for a couple. We enjoyed all the design books from the common area and had a great experience at the Little Plum restaurant owned by the same people. Naoshima is a wonderful place for a weekend and Quaint House is perfect in terms of location and amenities.

Very central in the Port area. Handy to the ferry. The room is small (which we knew), but we found it very functional and perfect for a short stay. Lots of cafes and restaurants nearby.

The cube is small (not unlike Tokyo hotels) but very functional. I would like to see added some hooks to hang towels, a full length mirror and move the bathroom mirror to the room before you step into the bathroom. This would make it all much more functional.

おしゃれな古民家で設備も清潔で良かった。 宮浦港やコンビニも近く便利だった。 室内にアートもたくさん飾ってあり内装もおしゃれ！ 荷物をお安く預かってくれたのが良かった！

2段ベッドが押し入れ2段だったので、大人は少し狭く感じるかも。でも、子どもは喜びそう！ 本降りの日だったので、雨傘のレンタルがあると良かった

I mistakenly thought there was a private living room - the living room is a shared space.

Nos encanto el lugar. Se llega caminando desde la estacion terminal ferry. Naoshima es para quedarse mas de dos noches y este lugar muy nuevo, con confort. Muy bien diseñado, y lindisimo. Es transportarte al Japon de magia y filosofia.

Naoshima est une très jolie île dans laquelle les musées, oeuvres d'art contemporain, vieilles maisons retapées sont autant de centres d'intérêt. Il est très facile de s'y déplacer en bus, à vélo ou à pied. Quaint House Naoshima se trouve à 3 min à pied de l'arrivée des ferries et du départ du bus qui permet de visiter l'île, donc c'est un lieu idéal où séjourner.

It was cozy.

It felt authentically Japanese and it had an infrared Sauna in the hotel room.

When we booked the room online we were told it was a “family room” but the name “family room” didn’t correspond to any of room names on the hotel website and so we had no idea what actual room we were going to be assigned in check in. Had the correct names have been provided on the booking website, I would have actually booked the exact room that I wanted.

The online photos don't do the place justice. I thought we were booking into an 'ok' place, but it turned out to be quite splendid.

The entrance hall and bathroom are on a motion sensor so going to the bathroom at night is a very bright experience, for everyone.

Muito charmosa, bem no estilo tradicional japonês. Muito funcional com tudo o que era necessário.

De encontrar as orientações sobre as regras da acomodação impressas em grandes cartazes cobrindo toda a mesa da sala. A quantidade de regras e a forma como estão expostas nos fez sentir pouco a vontade. Entendemos a necessidade delas, mas sugerimos pensar numa forma mais agradável de compartilha-las com os hóspedes.

The staff were friendly and helpful.

Black mould throughout the bathroom and main room, dehumidifier running 24/7, light in the common hallway kept us awake, tiny bathroom and no hot water on one of the mornings.
