Fantastic building conversation, lots of original exposed features. The rooms are large, comfortable and immaculately clean. Dinner in The Chapel restaurant was superb although booking to eat in either the bar or restaurant is a must as they are both popular.
Unfortunately the breakfast on Sunday took 45 minutes to be served and mine was absolutely stone cold. Reception will ask you to book your breakfast time so please do, if you arrive unexpectedly you will cause delays to everyone else.
Staff were very cheerful and helpful, it has been transformed into a luxury hotel, but kept features of the old jail as i knew it growing up in bodmin.
The bed was very firm for me, but thats just personal preference, apart from that I had no complaints
All brilliant but expensive
Staff very welcoming. Hotel amazing. EV charging poorly managed. Cars on them all night. No attempt to manage soothers van use. Should not say they have an EV facility.
EV charging not managed. Rubbish.
Badewanne und Dusche. Minibar, mit Freigetänken. Sehr gutes Frühstück mit kleinem Buffet und full Englisch Breakfast . Großer Parkplatz. Gutes Wlan.

A very comfortable hotel with an unusual design, excellent location, convenient parking and very good breakfasts.
It's a shame that hotel guests don't have special access to their ghost show.
Unique setting in a historical building.
Bar was lovely and staff were helpful, jolly and friendly. Food was phenomenal. Would stay again.
Property was lovely however there is not much to do in the area.
Only stayed one night, wished we could have stayed longer. Staff couldn't help you enough, and the room was impeccably clean
The restaurant was lovely but pricey
Breakfast was nice the room was busy and a little canteenish in the vibe
The evening eating arrangements there was never anyone on the bar you waited 15/20 mins for any staff to come take a drink order then food when it came was set on tiny tables which were not comfortable to sit at , our second night there was a football team arrival and by evening when we went to place our food order we were told they were at capacity and could’nt serve anymore guests it was 7.45 pm there were 8 of us waiting to place a food order we then headed into town ended up with fish and chips . There main eating area is an a la carte menu. Apart from the novelty of staying in a jail which wore off after one night there was nothing to do there other than the jail tour which again was full price the surrounding area was’nt great the usual vape shops and barber shops . Theres no music or decent bar, the room was a bit clostraphobic with no real air flow so we checked out a day early and went somewhere else the place has been done very well but theres more atmosphere in a library 🤦♀️
How clean the hotel was,it was beautiful warm and cosy. Room was great with a lovely bathroom with a powerful rain shower. Hotel staff was very friendly and gave us a warm welcome
Wasn't anything we didn't like really,my wife said the whole hotel had the wow factor
Building and grounds were stunning! Breakfast was the phenomenal, staff were very friendly and polite!
Nothing I didn’t like!
History
Nothing i
Its location and history is great the rooms are good and the best nights sleep
I have been before so expectations were high. I first off got put in a small room. I asked to be moved which they did. The bar had reduced its cocktail menu. Went for dinner and the menu vastly reduced. I asked if I could order from the bar menu.initially told no despite the same kitchen and they walk past you to take to the bar. Eventually they agreed. The restaurant was very dusty and the little touches were missing
The breakfast was outstanding with great service staff and selection. A very well renovated building capturing the flavor of it's history and providing excellent comfort and service.
The restaurant prices were too high.
It was an amazing stay. The staff was friendly. The room was really comfy and clean. The breakfast was amazing. One of the best breakfasts I have had from a hotel.
The hole experience was amazing and the rooms are amazing too and the food was the best I have had
It’s a great hotel in a fab central location. Very clean and a comfortable bed. Breakfast is excellent.
If I was a little pickie it would be good to have a sofa for two rather than a chair for one.
The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. The room was beautiful and very clean.
Nothing everything was amazing
Bodmin Jail Hotel is one of the best experiences I've had for a long time. We booked very last minute after wanting to stay there since it opened. Luckily for us, they had a room. We was met by the receptionist who straight away was warm and friendly. Explained all We needed to know. When we reached our room, we opened the cell door to see the most beautiful transformation of the cells. The bathroom was spotless the bedding crisp and clean. The mini fridge filled with lovely drinks and the air con in the heat was so needed. We booked in last minute for the Chapel restaurant but before you reach it, a champagne bar was waiting. Once our table was ready we was shown to our seats. The food was beautifully done and sitting it the mondenised chapel was a treat. Breakfast was also served in the chapel restaurant, with fresh cooked breakfast and some of the best pan au chocolate I've ever had. We stayed two night using the amusement. This was great value for money. I don't wanna give anything away about it. Fun for all ages shall we say. The team should be very proud. I can't wait to be back and do it all over again.
Location and presentation of rooms excellent. Breakfast was very pleasing and filling. From reception to all staff in all departments everyone was friendly and helpfull.
I thought room and breakfast was excellent but cost a little bit too high.
Lovely staff. It was stunning hotel, and nice touch to reference about the prisoners who had been in your “cell”. Very clean
Nothing it was perfect
Das Hotel, das Konzept!
Das Frühstück, war enttäuschend!

The history behind the hotel and the excellent restoration of the building, the staff were excellent, the rooms were spotless and very fancy.
Leaving to go back home 😔
Most unusual i ever stayed in !! Great experience . The visitor attraction beside the hotel is a must see also!
Unusual location for a hotel. Really memorable Complementary soft drinks in minibar nice touch for kids
The hotel it’s self it absolutely gorgeous and just chilled vibes staff are wonderful
We were left waiting standing more than ten mins to be seated for food but it’s understandable you could tell the staff were trying there best they kept reassuring us
Rooms were amazing! Plenty of space, fabulous bathroom and comfortable bed. You could see you were in a jail cell with all the old stonework … but a luxurious one.
Not much! Fir us the air con wouldn’t go below 19C which was too warm fir us, but we didn’t mention it at the time as only there one night
Unique and very relevant and comfortable interior design
Bijzondere locatie, mooi ingericht. Personeel bij incheckbalie zeer vriendelijk en attent.
Airco was matig, in de gym was het veels te warm. Barman straalde totaal geen gastvrijheid uit erg duur.
So unique. Loved all the history and how the building had been converted sympathetically to its original design.
Loved all of it.
Absolutely everything was incredible! The staff were the loveliest people, super friendly and helpful! The hotel was so cool, such a unique place to stay. Highly recommend!
Cannot find one single thing we didn't like.
The Hotel is great for a weekend break and the cell and the breakfast was fantastic, and the reception staff were very helpful.
There were a number of very small but annoying failings, I asked for a Whisky in the bar after dinner and the only glass that was available was a pint glass !, the following day at breakfast there were no teaspoons, I know these are small things but they make a difference. The Chapel restaurant although fairly good, I feel that the chef is trying to hard, I asked for my lamb to be pink, which it definitely was not when served, and I asked for it to be changed only to be told that it was the last portion available.
The beautiful room and the history of the jail, the woman in the pink suit was very kind.
The barman really looked like he did not want to be there. The AC was not working very well.
Breakfast and dinner were great.
My room was great. Temperature was ok. My colleagues room (309) was too warm and we were right beside each other
Very different!
Haunted!
Location is stunning Rooms are spacious and well equipped
Something really silly but the Toilet Roll!! It’s awful toilet roll very cheap considering the price of the room the toilet roll could be better 😊
The hotel.was stunning , the staff and experience was great.
Beautifully designed, spotlessly clean, and very comfortable, with an excellent location. However, what really stood out was the exceptional service. The staff were warm, attentive, and incredibly helpful throughout our stay. If there were any flaws, we certainly didn’t notice them thanks to the wonderful team. Highly recommended!
Good use of historic old building
Difficult to find our way around the building.
Spooky. Hugely interesting with incredible history
Nothing
Good size rooms. Staff very good
Car park to small if hotel full. Breakfast area again too small had to wait for table. even though booked for specific time. Staff very good but overwhelmed.
Very atmospheric, great gym, breakfast cooked to order, kippers for me! 😋 Very friendly and professional staff. Complimentary car charging- amazing. Loved it, an unusual building thick walls and air con kept me cool in the heat of summer.
Maybe don’t limit the age of guest in the pullout bed. I could get two 17 year old in there.
A fantastic restoration into a modern comfortable hotel loved the history and the stories of each cell .
The service in the breakfast room could have been quicker. We waited an hour for a cup of coffee and longer for our food which came with a topping I’m intolerant to ,which I had divulged to staff earlier, so had to remove the topping myself .
Completely unique. Really well thought out - incorporating the history of the jail and luxury, modern element. All staff were helpful, friendly and genuine - we were made to feel very welcome as a family.

Everything! Honestly it’s one of the best hotels I’ve stayed at. Don’t know how they managed the balance of keeping the history and real feel while also making you feel like you are in a luxury hotel. The staff could not have been nicer, we felt right at home. The food was exceptional and it’s worth staying extra nights for the breakfast.
Not a single thing!
The location of the hotel suited us as we were cycling down the Camel trail. The rooms were nice and we liked the overall ambience of the hotel and the access to the jail tour which was well worth it.
To be fair the breakfast wan't the best I have had. I went for the full English breakfast. The bacon didn't seem freshly cooked (dry) and both the black pudding and sausage was pretty tasteless. We decided to opt for the lighter evening meal on the day we arrived but were told at 7pm that no order could be taken until 8pm as a chef hadn't turned up. Consequently we ate out in the town. We didn't eat in the main restaurant on either night due to the eye watering prices (its not Michelin Star). That decison was ratified by other guests we talked too who said the dining experience for the price was pretty awful. No store for our bikes meant I had to dismantle mine twice and store it in my car. Considering the proximity to the Camel trail bike storage would have been a plus.
Room exceptional except shower door failed to close properly so water leaked onto floor (did notify reception when vacating)
Breakfast not worth price too basic had2 keep asking for utensils/plates, coffee pot cold, long wait for food. Drinks in evening poor, requested pina colada and bar staff unable to make had to rechoose.
Staff were pleasant. breakfast was good.
The drinks ar very expensive and when we ate in the restaurant while the staff were nice, it was impossible to grab their attention. We ended up having to leave our table to go ask for the bill. Your staff look knackered, so I wonder if their shifts are affecting them. Bodmin the town sadly doesn’t have much to offer.
Lovely rooms, really comfortable.
Breakfast ran out quickly. Limited options on the first morning due to a large group booking (would have expected this to be planned for)
petit déjeuner très bien et très copieux
personnel du petit-déjeuner un peu lents
A truly unique location. Staff friendly and attentive, breakfast nice, rooms and facilities excellent.

Prachtige kamer in uniek kader
Personeel van de restaurants was niet erg vriendelijk. De dame van receptie daarentegen was erg vriendelijk en grappig.
A fascinating and unique experience. Yet to do so in such luxury compared to the horrific treatment of the prisoners feels surreal. Combine the stay with a prison tour. Also the food is incredible.
Nothing.

Cost
Everything. The quality of food, cutlery, cleanliness, the staff were amazing!! Big shout out to Jo who went above and beyond to help us as my husband had a tooth infection. Jo was fabulous and we are very grateful! The shop had a good variety of souvenirs to purchase. We loved our stay!!
Slightly too much like a hotel as opposed to staying in an authentic historical prison. Albeit still a wonderful experience!
Very characterful old jail!
I have always wanted to go , and it didn’t disappoint was very interesting
Its history and how they had combined old with new
Clean (ish)
Breakfast service was bad, wifi stopped working, staff were not good at responding to feedback (written or oral),location is not good
Love the quirkiness. The way it has been restored. The decor, the stonework used in the bathrooms. The Staff we all very friendly and helpful. We ate in the Bar this time we stayed and the food was excellent.
We loved most of it but in the Champagne Bar we asked for two glasses of Champagne and they had run out. The last time we stayed a couple of years ago we asked for a Bottle of Champagne and they didn’t have any. I don’t think you should call your Bar a Champagne Bar if you cannot provide Champagne. apart from that it was great.
Clean. Beautiful. Good atmosphere. Easy to get to any part of it. Added benefit of air conditioning as it was very hot when we stayed.
Excellent
Nothing
Everything about the place was amazing. The staff was friendly, the food was amazing and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. The tour was interesting, reasonably price and we enjoyed it very much
Nothing really to fault about the place really.
Everything it was really unique.
Loved all of it.
Heel apart
Prima geregeld
There were ample choices for what to have for breakfast, the hot meals and the cold meals were very good. The 'Full English Breakfast' was one of the best cooked breakfast I can remember eating. The attached Bodmin Jail experience, even though due to our own problem we had to rush to get through it, was very enjoyable, I would recommended it to anyone, great for children.
Even though the staff were very pleasant and attentive, it didn't really feel like a happy place, there was something just a little off about the atmosphere (and I am not talking about ghosts). The connection between the main dining area and the rest of the reception rooms does not work well. The concept of having to go to the bar and being taken to the Chapel dining room is awkward and certainly doesn't work. We had to travel from our room (on the 2nd floor) across to the Chapel, then go through the Chapel, where we really needed to be, go down some stairs and enter the bar, if we where early, there may or my not be time to get a drink, or if we arrived close to our time, we would be taken straight upstairs again, weird right? One night in the bar, when drinking wine, we went for our second glass, and the bartender asked if we wouldn't mind using our original glasses because other wise he would have to go upstairs for clean glasses, as we had the last two! Which really we didn't mind, but we shouldn't have had to make that decision. The bar could probably do with a dumbwaiter, and/or a sink, so the reused glasses could have been washed at least. Waiting time for food service in the bar area was close to unacceptable, as the lone barman had to leave to go upstairs to get the food, another good reason for a dumbwaiter. Or maybe the problem is that all the staff had to work very hard because they were over stretched because the hotel is not employing enough of them. Maybe that was the problem with the general ambience, they staff had really no time to spend time with the customer even just to say hello my name is 'blah blah'. I had run my own business for 40 years, so at the end of the day, I would consider that to be bad management. I did enjoy being at the hotel, it was fun and different, but because of the above reasons, I cannot see reason for me and my wife to ever return to the hotel again.
Unique experience, lovely room and good à/c. Inconsistent housekeeping….given the cost of the room there was no milk , water provided after the first night. We were told we had to request them! No bin liners in bins, nowhere in bathroom to put personal toiletries , nowhere in shower for shower gel etc. - poor bathroom design? .
As above. Restaurant staff mixed ability , some excellent and some less good re helpfulness! Eg one morning no spoons available on buffet. Asked for a spoon, Waited some time , and eventually several were placed on buffet table, waitress didn’t think to bring one over to me. Not always offered cakes with coffee each morning
Unique, lovely staff, great inclusive breakfast
We stayed in room 123, it was a bit tired for such a place, there was a thick layer of dust ay high level , the bath was not connected to the floor it just slid around , the shower was a bit grubby and the tiles mounted around under our feet, and we didn’t even get to see a ghost🤪
Really great location. The refurbishment is very sympathetic and the facilities and staff were great. A fantastic place to stay and I would definitely recommend.
The only thing was the bed was a bit hard, but appreciate this is down to individual preference (and we like a soft bed).
Amazing old place that is steeped in history
Nothing. Everything was superb
Intet.
Beautiful rooms lovely staff particularly in the Chapel restaurant where we had a top class breakfast all in all a very nice experience
Everything good
Spotless room and facilities. Staff excellent at their job and in general conversation about the jail and surrounding facilities and places to visit. Food was superb and plentiful
We had to leave
Having stayed at Bodmin jail hotel in October 2022 and then returning back in July 2026, I cannot believe how much this hotel has deteriorated. The reception staff are abysmal, when checking in constantly looking at a screen, not a smile or any sort of kind welcoming at all. The same with a different receptionist the next day. The ambience of the hotel is bleak and there is no positive energy at all. The air con in the rooms are rubbish in this heat and the pillows were flat. There was also no cold water in order to have a bath unless you wanted second degree burns. The evening meal restaurant staff were not welcoming either and the whole evening dining was uncomfortable leaving us to collect a takeaway instead. What made our stay was the fantastic hospitality from Leesa at breakfast, she was so welcoming, kind and couldn’t do enough for us. She was helpful, welcoming and really knowledgeable about the hotel and surrounding areas. This hotels price point really needs to be reviewed as the feedback clearly shows why the hotel is very empty and the management staff are not taking this into consideration along with the price.
Stunning property very unique experience very comfortable room staff very friendly and professional
Breakfast day 1 and 2 delicious no complaints however day 3 was a total shambles waited 1hour and 20 mins for a Cornish breakfast and poached eggs table next to us was dirty when we arrived and in the same state when we left other guests were served before us despite arriving a long time after us there were 9 tables stacked with dirty pots and staff disappeared into the kitchen seemingly not knowing what to do the lack of leadership on this day was evident despite asking 3 times for our breakfast we still waited until in the end I suggested they move our order to the front of the queue my husband could not eat his when it arrived as he so upset he felt very sick this was not a stop off as most people use it for it was a 7 night holiday for us we didn’t have breakfast again until we checked out and still husband couldn’t eat it I did speak to Kim upon leaving who was very apologetic but this did spoil our holiday and with added expense of having to eat breakfast elsewhere
Very clean and modern even though in an old building.
Nothing
Great renovation of the old jail Wonderful breakfast included!
Service in the bar was a little slow even with very few patrons but certainly not terrible
The hotel is very authentic, well designed and immaculate. They serve an excellent breakfast. We came on holiday and unfortunately this hotel is not really good as a holiday hotel. There is no where to relax. The champagne bar is not an exclusive champagne bar at all. There were children (very well behaved) in the bar and food is also served. Also the seating is not comfortable.
The warm welcome we received and the excellent customer service, especially our time in the condemned Cell with our personal butler Ajay, he was so attentive and made our experience extra special, thankyou Ajay
Everything was perfect, so disliked nothing at all
Stylish and beautiful, definitely one of my favourite hotels in Cornwall
Everything
iron and ironing board in room
Great hotel; good staff, great rooms and feel.
Stayed the night, room (cell) was lovely, food and service in the chapel was brilliant, AJay made our evening meal really enjoyable - definitely worth a visit!
Interesting building and great concept. Lots of history to look at and really great renovation.
Not enough staff on pretty much consistently. Breakfast was a disaster, three young team members covering the whole Saturday morning peak hours. Waited 45 mins for a table, and then walked out to a cafe after another 30 mins. No glasses, no order taken. Bless the girls it wasn't their fault. Room was beyond hot on the top floor. No air con at all that I could feel. Not what you want in a £285 per night hotel.
Loved the whole concept of renovating old buildings into a very stylish and quirky place to stay. Loved the original features and the rooms which were well appointed.
Very little not to like although some local biscuits would’ve been lovely.
Well presented
Amazing to look at and very comfortable
The building has been renovated with exceptional care to its history and to preserve the building. Very clever concept and luxury decor. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful and the evening meal was very high standard with excellent staff. The paranormal tour was wonderful made more so by our guide Marie who was passionate about the prison history and the paranormal.
There seemed to be a staff shortage for breakfasts and whilst football 1/4 finals could excuse 1 morning for too many guests emerging for late breakfast, 2 mornings on the trot orange juice ran out completely, people were continually waiting on clean bowls or spoons, hot water came out as tea, the table next to ours had milk served in a gravy boat coz they were out of jugs and 9 tables were left uncleared for over half an hour whilst the head waitress tried to keep on top and direct the few staff. The lego exhibition in the preserved cells totally ruined the atmosphere and several museum visitors we overhead were wondering about its significance.
It’s an amazing place…to be able to stay in the cells of an old prison was a real treat. Its modern and extremely comfortable but retains the feel and original features of the old prison
The bar and restaurant are beautifully restored but didn’t have the hotel vibe. I decided not to dine in the restaurant but the breakfast was amazing and the staff were first class.
Everything
Nothing
Loved the feel of the place. Room was a lovely size and bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was amazing. Staff very informative and friendly at all times. Bar staff very helpful.
Drinks were a little expensive.
The prison has been transformed into a beautiful hotel with incredible attention to detail. Three cells now make a bedroom, with a large en-suite bathroom. Our bathroom contained a free-standing bath and walk in shower. Inside and out, the prison is a stunningly restored piece of architecture. The prison chapel is now the main restaurant, where we enjoyed an excellent dinner on our first night and wonderful breakfast the following morning. The full Cornish breakfast with hog’s pudding was delicious. The staff were unfailingly friendly, welcoming and attentive. A special mention must go to Kim in the restaurant, who arranged for us to have a booth table for dinner and was very welcoming. Also, thanks to Michael who gave us advice on the best place to take photos in the wing in which our ‘cell’ was located and offered to take photos of my mother and myself. This was a very special visit for us. My mother celebrated her 88th birthday and I am the great-grandson of Thomas Austin, the last prison chaplain!
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit, though some public areas were very warm, as our stay was during a bit of a heatwave in July. Dinner in the restaurant was a little warm, so we made our way to the very pleasant courtyard outside to cool off after eating. Fortunately the air conditioning in the bedroom was fabulous.
Uniqueness & the very kind staff … nothing too much trouble for any of them & free EV car charging!!
Could have paid a little more attention to cleanliness of our room floor
Tolles Hotel in altem Gefängnis, tolle Atmossphäre.
Mehr Stauraum/ Schrank wäre gut gewesen, mehr Haken im Bad und eine bessere Beleuchtung im Bad.
Booked Bodmin Jail as a surprise for a special birthday including the prisoner experience. It was a wonderful time, the hotel is just amazing. The atmosphere, facilities, the room- converted cells as your bedroom are just fantastic. Our room, ( cell) was luxurious, crisp linen, free soft drink minibar, very soft towels and and a lovely soft bath robe that was very generous in size. A very generous bathroom with freestanding bath tub and separate double shower with lovely toiletries provided. Our warden was Tamar who was very knowledgeable about the hotel history and made the tour very interesting. We had prisoner meal as part of the experience which was so filling and delicious. The a la carte food looked delicious. The breakfast buffet and menu was excellent. All the staff that we met were very friendly and polite. If you want a special treat in a fabulous hotel I can’t recommend here enough, you won’t be disappointed. It isn’t the cheapest but you get what you have paid for.
Very good range for breakfast. Very helpful and friendly staff Quick to sort overly hot shower and underfloor heating left on during a heatwave Lovely and dark room at night Quiet
No usable mirror in bathroom for shaving/make up Silly location for kettle and no tray or place to leave tea bags except bin Very heavy and probably unnecessary sliding doors to cupboard
Quirky
Rather pricey
Unusual place to stay, very clean, lots of drinks provided. Easy check-in.
The room was very dark. No dressing table to sit at and even if you had you wouldn’t have been able to see to do makeup, etc.. coffee was instant in the room. Prices in the bar and restaurant were excessive. If they had been less, we would’ve eaten here. Breakfast was a disaster too. Few staff had to ask for coffee three times.. buffet was not replenished quickly. Broken dishwasher meant you had to ask for glasses. Staff a little clueless. Had to ask to order our cooked breakfast as no one came round. Coffee at breakfast was horrible.
