Reviewed Jul 17, 2026I like the fact that it had a washing machine in the room.
This review will probably not come as a surprise to Somerset Chengdu. I’m pretty sure they’re expecting it. This was our second stay at this hotel. The first time was okay-ish. This time was a complete disaster. My son and I arrived in the late evening after a long day of traveling to what I consider the best city in the world. We checked in, walked into our room, and immediately noticed that the bathroom door was broken and wouldn’t close. Not exactly ideal, especially when you’re traveling with a teenager. I went downstairs to let the front desk know. They said someone would come take a look. About 10 minutes later, a maintenance worker showed up, confirmed the door was broken, and told us we’d be moved to another room. We were told to wait. So we waited. And waited. And waited. We sat there with all of our luggage unpacked until almost midnight, and nobody ever came. I finally went back downstairs. This time they told me they could move us, but it was to a better room, so once the bathroom door was fixed we’d have to move all of our stuff back to the original room. Seriously? I told them absolutely not. I’m not unpacking, packing everything back up, moving rooms, then doing it all over again because the hotel handed us a room with a broken bathroom door. I said we were perfectly willing to stay in the room if they fixed the door first thing the next morning. They assured me they would. Spoiler: they didn’t. Using the bathroom and shower became a ridiculous exercise in geometry. Because of the mirrors and the layout of the room, one person had to hide in the farthest corner of the room while the other used the bathroom just to have a tiny bit of privacy. The next morning we spent the entire day out. When we came back, I asked if the door had been repaired. The front desk told me the maintenance staff “didn’t have time.” Instead, they moved us to another room that was actually a bit worse than the one we had originally booked.

Reviewed Mar 23, 2025I had an amazing stay at Somerset Chengdu! The hotel was clean, comfortable, and had everything I needed for a relaxing visit. The rooms were spacious, well-maintained, and felt like a home away from home. What truly made my experience exceptional was the front desk staff they were simply the best! From the moment I arrived, they were incredibly welcoming, professional, and always ready to assist with anything I needed. Their hospitality and attention to detail made my stay even more enjoyable. I highly recommend Somerset Chengdu to anyone visiting the city. I’ll definitely be staying here again on my next trip!

Reviewed Dec 6, 2024We have stayed in this hotel previously, but this time was in December. Unfortunately, as in a lot of hotels here, the central air conditioning is turned off over the winter months. This causes the rooms to be unbearably airless and hot as it is only possible to open two very small windows which have no effect on cooling the room down. We only coped by having two extra fans in the bedroom. Apart from this, the rooms are fitted out and equipped very nicely.
Unbearably poor ventilation with the central air conditioning turned off. Poor quality breakfast.

Reviewed Nov 8, 2024I recently stayed at Somerset Gaoxin Chengdu, and it was a fantastic experience! The view from our room was stunning, and the hotel’s location made it incredibly convenient—close to everything we wanted to explore in the city. The staff truly went above and beyond, making our stay unforgettable. Even with a language barrier, they were always there to help me and my wife, ensuring we felt welcome and comfortable. A huge thank you to the team for their exceptional service. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Chengdu. Five stars!
