순례길 첫 날 이용함. 첫날 좀 편히 쉬려고 1인실을 이용했는데 순례길 중 객실 시설이 가장 별로였던 곳, 가성비 최악임. 에어컨 없음. 방에 열리는 창문이 없어서 환기 안됨. 방문을 열어놔야 해서 지나가는 사람들과 눈 마주침. 매우 불편했음. 먼지가 잔득 낀 작은 탁상용 선풍기 하나 있음. 2층에서 1층이 내려다 보이고 커텐이 아닌 스노우 보드판으로 창을 가려놔서 빛이 다 들어오고 1층에서 말하는 소리가 다 들림. 내부 구분 벽들이 합판으로 만들어져서 화장실 사용하는 소리도 다 들림. 화장실 청소가 안되어 매우 더러움. 완성된 호스텔이 아니라 만들어가는 중인 호스텔.

El sitio tiene una estética muy cuidada, y tienen una sala común agradable. Si bien en las habitaciones hace bastante calor y se respeta poco el descanso nocturno. Hay pocos baños para la gente que acoge.

This is my second stay at Caruma Surf Hostel in Matosinhos, and if anything I like the place even more the second time around. I felt at home almost immediately on my first visit, and coming back confirmed that it wasn't just a first impression. The atmosphere is creative and relaxed, with Persian rugs, surfboards, artwork, exposed rafters and a large painting area. It is stylish without feeling overly polished or precious. There is something slightly "perfectly imperfect" about it that makes it very easy to relax. Luis, who runs the hostel, is a high-level surfer, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and champion, and an artist. He is warm and friendly but also focused on making sure the important things actually work — rooms, bookings and helping guests when they need something. He has personally helped me with a Portuguese Multibanco payment and has given me genuinely useful local information. Cristiano is often at the desk and is extremely friendly and attentive. He keeps an eye on the practical details and makes people feel welcome. Even small things are handled thoughtfully — for example, when they were doing their regular complete clean-out of the guest fridge, he made sure I had labelled my food so it wouldn't accidentally be thrown away. Magda also deserves a lot of credit. I have actually watched her clean rooms after checkout, carefully going into every corner and even steam-cleaning them. After staying here more than once, I can say that the cleanliness isn't just for appearances — the standard is consistently very high. The social atmosphere is probably my favourite part. I don't personally surf much, but I've met surfers, people who came specifically to train Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Camino de Santiago walkers, athletes and travellers from all over the world. There is a wide mix of ages as well. The conversations tend to go well beyond normal hostel small talk.

The design in the main area is amazing! the toilets and shower were clean. I felt safe, as a woman travaling alone.

3 things made it a bit disappointing - 1. I pretty sure there were flees in the bed, in the morning bites appeared a on my legs, and on my next locations there were no additional bites. 2. the locker for personal stuff (I stayed in shared dorms) was too narrow for my Camino bag. 3. There wasn't someone at reception and felt kinda alone in that manner (like had questions about the kitchen and didn't know who to aaproach).

The surf decor was nice, well equipped kitchen.

When I turned up, everything was shut up. I tried to call and message the property/ knock but no one answered. Someone did eventually turn up and let me in but was all very weird. No air con in the 10 person dorm. 1 fan that didn’t reach my bed. No windows that could be opened. I had to sleep on the sofa in the common room downstairs because the heat was unbearable (promise I’m not actually that fussy with where I stay, the heat was a lot). Plug sockets aren’t working above my bed so couldn’t charge anything easily. There weren’t any activities going on. When I spoke to people in the room about surfing, they said you had to pay €40 for a lift to somewhere to surf - but there was never anyone around to ask about that. I ended up booking into a hotel in the end so I could get some sleep. I normally do stay in hostels, but the heat really ruined this one for me.

The location is great for the beach and all sites in Matosinhos (I was there for conferences and stayed for surfing and free sardines at the folkloric fishermen's festival). You could describe this hostel is a cross between an art gallery and surf club (i.e., paintings and boards cover the walls) with a cool, funky, eclectic vibe. The staff are all great and helpful and the way the space is set up you will meet people there. Luis sets a great tone for everything and I highly recommend a surf lesson with him!

Loved my stay at Caruma Surf Hostel! The vibe is super chill, everyone was really friendly, and it was easy to meet people. The place was clean, comfortable, and had everything I needed. The location is great, just a short walk to the beach, which made it perfect for surfing and relaxing. I'd definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone looking for a laid-back, friendly hostel.

Apesar da simpatia com que foi recebida e do estilo surf/industrial, falta um toque feminino nas limpezas e um toque masculino nas cabeças de choveiro que precisam ser trocadas e na torneira da cozinha que tem o puxador partido.

Klimaanlage lief laut und kalt die ganze Nacht, obwohl die Nachttemperatur nur 16 war.Unstimmigkeit bei der Bezahlung. 30 Euro im 10 Bettzimmer zu hoch. Vermutlich Bettwanzen, hatte mehrere Pusteln am nächsten Morgen.

I had a fantastic stay at Caruma Surf Hostel! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the staff are incredibly friendly and always happy to help. The hostel is clean, comfortable, and beautifully designed with a great surf vibe. Its location is perfect, just a short walk from the beach, public transport, and plenty of great restaurants. I really enjoyed my time here and would definitely stay again. I highly recommend Caruma Surf Hostel to anyone looking for a relaxing and friendly place to stay in Matosinhos!

L'ingresso della struttura, la mancanza di pulizia, problemi con lo scarico della doccia che poi è stato risolto ma con grandissimi disagi, camera allagata, acqua in ogni dove.

Absolutely loved my stay here! 🌊🏄‍♀️ The whole place has an amazing surf vibe that makes you feel relaxed and at home from the moment you arrive. The beach is just a short walk away, which is perfect if you want to surf, swim, or simply enjoy the ocean. What makes this hostel special is all the little details. You can rent surfboards, play chess, guitar, or PlayStation, and there are plenty of cozy common areas to meet people and hang out. It’s the kind of place where it’s easy to make new friends and feel part of the community. The staff and volunteers are incredibly friendly, welcoming, and always ready to help. They really create a warm atmosphere and make sure everyone feels comfortable. The rooms were clean, the facilities were great, and overall everything exceeded my expectations. One of the best hostels I’ve stayed in, and I would happily come back again. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a fun, friendly, and relaxed place near the beach! 🤙☀️

Reservé por Booking, en el establecimiento me cobraron 2€ más de tasa, pagé una habitación en una habitación de 4 y me metieron en una de 10. con un aparato de aire a un metro de la cabeza durante toda la noche porque había un calor horroroso en la habitación, lo apagué y lo volvieron a encender, toda la noche con el ruido del aparato y ventiladores funcionando. Mucho ruido en la zona común/cocina hasta altas horas. El enchufe de mi litera no funcionaba y tuve que cargar el móvil en una regleta alejada de mi litera. No tenía luz en la litera

I came late an stayed one night in mixed dorms, it was convenient since I wanted to be in Matosinhos and it’s really close to the metro and to the beach. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I liked the lobby of this place, it was very cozy and spacious, with lots of art objects.

Probably because I was late the showers were not very clean.

La localisation. Très proche du bord de mer.

Des punaises de lit. J’ai été piqué de la tête aux pieds. Je me suis rendu compte qu’une fois de retour chez moi.

La décoration de l'hôtel et des chambres. Le personnel était très aimable et accueillant. La proximité de la plage et des commerces ou restaurants.

The hostel has a great chill vibe and a huge and original common area. The room was comfy with the bathroom and the toilet inside. Common kitchen was very well equipped. The staff were super nice and friendly.

The only thing that we would have liked were the towels. But it’s a hostel not a hotel and we knew they would not be provided.

Hostel was neat.

Double room was good but had no ventilation, nor any windows that could open. Single bathroom was not ideal as another tenant was rather messy and the paper ran out with none readily available within the bathroom.

In de advertentie werd vermeld dat we moesten betalen bij aankomst bij de accommodatie. Bij thuiskomst bleek dat ook booking het bedrag heeft ingehouden. Na veel mailwisseling is het resultaat we geen geld terugkrijgen.

Sorry, but we CANNOT say anything positive! We booked, paid & received confirmation; then they bumped us to a dingy sister hotel (Senhor Matosinhos) 1/2 km away at 8:30pm. There was no warning message, despite them having all our information. We did not book the dingy hotel & would never want to stay there. Mould on the wall & in bathroom; weird bathroom situation. Their booking behaviour = bait & switch. Boo!! They also owe us the difference in fees, as the hotel was cheaper than the hostel. Thank goodness next accommodation was better or we would lose confidence in booking.com.

Hostel muito bem localizado, todo o staff é impecável e fui muito bem recebido. Recomendo bastante.

O único ponto negativo é que reservei porque gosto de optar sempre por casa de banho privativa, porém chegando ao alojamento pude verificar que não havia uma casa de banho privativa, como referia quando fiz a reserva.

Bathroom needed a bit of maintenance and toilet roll resupply. There’s no quiet time but it’s not solely for pilgrims - more for surfers as name would suggest - so that’s fair enough.

Einfach super. Sehr netter Empfang, sehr cool eingerichtet, sehr bequemes Bett, mit Bettwäsche, eine gemeinschaftsküche & warme Dusche. Liegt nah am Camino und für mich war es wirklich erholsam.

El espacio en sí mismo; una nave hecha surf hostel, su decoración y distribución muy lograda y alternativa. Estaba limpio, cocina bien equipada y personal amable.

Quizás una ducha en la parte de abajo vendría bien. Los colchones son algo mejorables.

De kamer was ruim. Alle faciliteiten waren er. Wc, lavabo en douche. Ruim bed en nog een zetel of eenpersoonsbes ter beschikking. De eigenaar was vriendelijk.

Er was geen wc-papier bij aankomst, wat me aanvankelijk niet stoorde want dit werd meteen opgelost. Voor de handdoeken moest ik extra twee euro betalen. Het is jammer dat mijn badhanddoek vuil was. Deze had vlekken van een soort klei. Heel bizarre. Ik ontdekte dit pas ‘s ochtends wanneer ik wou douchen. Gedurende de avond was er een probleem met de open haard. Er ontstond heel veel rookvorming in het huis. Dit kwam tot in mijn kamer. Was zeer onaangenaam om in deze geur te verblijven. Heb een tapijt onder mijn deur moeten schuiven zodat ik de rook kon tegenhouden. Na een uur was wel alle rook weg. Was niet de meest relaxerende verblijf. Ondanks de ruime kamer, voelde ik me niet volledig op mijn gemak.

Good location. I'm a pilgrim and I really liked it; the dormitory beds are comfortable and have curtains. Hot shower and good atmosphere. Well-equipped kitchen. Relaxing.

I loved my stay. For a hostel, it is very well decorated. It has all the necessary comfort to spend a few days after the journey to Santiago. Luis is a great Surf guide and an excellent host.

Le logement était parfaitement adapté à notre besoin. Et le personnel était très agréable.

Les colocataires étaient bruyants et ne faisaient pas toujours leurs vaisselles mais ils étaient sympathiques.

Excellent hostel for connecting with others along your journey. Loved the open layout of the hostel, and the relaxed nature of the place. Minutes walk from the beach, grocery, and dining.

Not well-suited for pilgrims: no place to do laundry, or hang wet clothes to dry.

A localização é excelente, perto das melhores praias para surfar. Experimentei um surf safari, foi uma experiência fantástica . Fiquei surpreendida com a vibe do hostel e dos hóspedes. O dono foi extremamente simpático e prestativo. Recomendo de olhos fechados para quem busca um lugar confortável, bem localizado e com um atendimento de qualidade. Com certeza voltarei!

A decoração é acolhedora com espaços muito funcionais. O conceito de partilha de cozinha é maravilhoso. O quarto simples, limpo.
