This place is magical highly recommend .

Gorgeous view and on-site restaurant for dinner. Very friendly and hospitable owners.

Room is quite basic but it was fine.

False advertising and very cold. Advertised as having washer and dryer which was not in room but a paid shared facility which Was false advertising I think.

Found accommodation to be abit dated and needing an upgrade.

The location is phenomenal. Looking out the window you see Mountain and George. It is also near Methven (hot pools) and other Canterbury destinations. The room is warm and comfortable. Love that the price makes it accessible for locals.

Restaurant could be a bit refreshed.

The location has one of the amazing view I have seen, beautiful view of Mt Hutt and the gorge. The owners Jo and Butch were so nice, friendly and helpful. They tried to recommend us places to visit and take photos. We managed to take a beautiful photo of Mt Cook thanks to them. My two daughters and myself had a wonderful time staying there enjoying the view and had a lovely delicious dinner. We also managed to see the sunrise too before we left, it was breathtaking! Thank you so much.

Amazing hosts and staff. Made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived and personally escorted to our room. When we returned to dine the hosts and other diners were very friendly. As it was dark when we arrived we didnt get to appreciate the breathtaking view until morning which definitely did not disappoint. And we were personally farewelled as we left also. A short stay for us but can see why it gets such glowing reviews. The bar has been set very high for the next hosts when they take over.

We had a great dinner in the restaurant, and left too early in the morning (to our Balloon Ride) for breakfast.

Very clean studio room with fabulous view. Jo and Butch were super hosts who also ran the delicious restaurant with fresh local produce and a good bar. All good value. Perfect location for the Rakaia Gorge and walks.

Cool older lodge with an amazing view of the Rakaia. Glad I got to meet Butch and hear some of his stories. Bonus-Zig Zag road is sealed up to the lodge so easy to access.

Sad that the restaurant wasn’t open due to Butch’s prior commitments but c’est la vie!

Great hosts, and a great location, and we had an enjoyable meal in the restaurant.

No specific dislikes, but the facilities are pretty basic. A refurb could turn this into a 5 star option.

I rated the beds/ comfort low as I slept on the pull out and it was dreadfully uncomfortable. However the room was great with a full well equipped kitchen.

Lovely location overlooking the river gorge. There was a pool on site, great for a dip on a hot day. The apartment was clean and comfortable. The concierge was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. It was a little gem and would stay again.

The building, decor and furnishing was a little tired and dated. However, not a show stopper and cleanliness and comfort were good.

The location is absolutely fantastic with stunning mountain views, but the real magic here comes from the owners, Butch and Jo. They are super-friendly and went above and beyond to answer our questions and make us feel welcome. I strongly recommend visiting before they retire to experience this level of hospitality! Also, you simply must eat at their bar; even though it has limited hours, the food is incredible. We had the steak and dessert deal for $30 NZD, which was the best meal we’ve had, and the wine is very reasonably priced. To make the evening even better, they played live music for us while we ate! The rooms themselves are very spacious and having a fully-equipped kitchen was a huge plus. The atmosphere they have created here is truly special.

The rooms have a quite dated, 80s design, so don't expect a modern look if that is important to you (completely unimportant when the owners are as great as Jo and Butch). The only other downside was the WiFi, which was quite slow.

We so enjoyed our stay at Mt Hutt Lodge. Had a great night in dinning room, food was fabulous, cooked by butch the owner. Would definately recommend anytime!!

The accommodation is getting quite dated and there are some minor maintenance issues which seem to have been neglected for quite some time.

Great views and spacious room. Very handy to have the restaurant on site, and being so close to the Rakaia Gorge walk.

The location was great for our purposes, which was to use it as a base for exploring the area and attending the Hororata Highland Games.

Using stairs is becoming a little more difficult as we age.

Furnishings were a bit old and tired

Booked a 2 bedroom apartment on the GROUND Floor, that itemised a washing machine as an inclusion: 2nd bed was only a pullout sofa bed in loungeroom & was not ready made up with sheets etc - this we had to do ourselves. No Washing Machine provided as stated. Given a first floor room that presented unwelcome difficulties accessing (dealing with an injured knee) Evening meal "Rib-Eye Angus Beef" was tough & chewy - barely edible!

Great location. Butch and Jo were very helpful with information about the local area and the Mt Hutt ski area. The room was large and roomy .

Butch is an amazing chef! We live in the beef capital and can honestly say he served us a melt in your mouth, fall off your fork steak. Jo has amazing wisdom about the mountain and is one of the most personable people we met over there! The room was lovely, and the views were stunning! We have already booked our flights for our next visit!

There are stairs to the upper floor in case you have luggage and there is no wheelchair accessibility (I think).

Butch was an absolute legend and went above expectations to make our stay enjoyable! The apartment was spotless and clean with great resources. The view was absolutely beautiful 🤩
