Es waren also keine anderen Gäste da...
Man duscht dann lauwarm nachmittags 🤷
Staff disponibile e attento, cibo ottimo e attività divertenti
Exceptional stay, friendly staff, very personal, amazing location close to big sand dune, delicious food and very good for children! Perfect spot for a calm retreat in the middle if the desert - we will be back!!
Nothing - it was perfect!
Hele fijne organisatie. Superlieve familie die dit samen opzetten. Erg authentiek.
Basic comfort. The activities are fine, but not super amazing. Would not really recommend doing them.
Absolument rien.
Location was ok
More guests accapted to stay for new year then they could manage. Not enough seats for all guests. Toilets are shared, food and service very limited. Way over priced for what you get. Better go to Wadi Rum in Jordan for better and more luxury desert experience for 1/10th of the price. No need to stay overnight, you can also experience this desert on a day trip or camping by yourself..
A very nice and unique stay! The bed and the tent were comfortable. You even had your own private bathroom. The food was delicious and well prepared. The staff were friendly. The surroundings were beautiful! We also did the Dune Bashing activity. It wasn’t constantly high speed, but also a great guided tour through the desert with some explanations and stops. Highly recommended!! So if you’re looking for a unique desert experience in Oman, you can definitely book this stay!
/
Honest, quiet, helpfull. The owner made us feel really comfortable! We are very thankful for our amazing night in the desert camp retreat. Dune bashing and camel ride is highly recommended!!
Nothingk
location in the desert with sand dunes the good english of the manager of the camp and his ability to talk about Oman country beyond basic business small-talk
the blankets were smellling a bit 10 min camel ride was too expensive (we didn't do it) the accommodation and 4WD transportation (55+25=80 OR) were a little bit expensive despite included dinner & breakfast considering the affordable cost of food in Oman
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A suspended moment between earth and sky. Our stay at Desert Retreat Camp was simply magical nature in its raw, Untouched Beauty. The view of the open sky at night doesn’t need any advertisement; it speaks for itself. My 4-year-old daughter had never felt so free and happy. No internet, no phone, no distractions ... just pure simplicity. Everything was perfect. The owner was incredibly kind, patient and communicative, and the staff were always present yet never intrusive. Leaving was truly hard I felt free, calm, and deeply at peace. Highly recommended for anyone who wants something real and wishes to rediscover the true sense of priorities. 🌌
Stunning
Returning to Desert Retrest Camp Name after 12 years was an experience beyond words. Our first visit left us with unforgettable memories, and coming back after more than a decade, we were once again amazed—not just by the breathtaking landscape, but by the unwavering warmth and hospitality of Humaid and his team. What makes this camp truly special is its commitment to sustainability and authenticity. The way it blends seamlessly into the surrounding desert is outstanding, creating a perfect harmony between nature and comfort. Unlike many places that change over time, Desert Retreat Camp Name has remained true to its essence, preserving the beauty of its concept while enhancing the experience. Humaid’s hospitality is as heartfelt as ever, making us feel like family rather than guests. His deep respect for the desert and passion for sharing its magic shine through in every detail, from the traditional meals to the tranquil setting that allows you to fully disconnect and appreciate the raw beauty of the dunes. If you’re looking for an unforgettable desert experience that blends authenticity, sustainability, and comfort, Desert retreat Camp is the perfect place. The camp’s design is outstanding, carefully integrated into the natural surroundings without disrupting the breathtaking landscape. Unlike many commercialized desert accommodations, this camp embraces the beauty of simplicity, ensuring that every element complements rather than intrudes upon nature. The staff are incredibly attentive, ensuring your stay is comfortable while respecting the serene atmosphere of the desert.
It’s a LICENSED camp, which means they have a license from the Ministry of Tourism to run the camp and lease land from the government. The location is great - underneath a huge dune that you can climb and admire the views. The views from the dune and stunning especially at sunrise and sunset. It’s quite far from the towns at the edge of the sands and from other camps, which means it’s really quiet there - sometimes all you can hear is wind. The owner is very nice and hospitable, as are the staff. The food was great, with a lot of vegetarian options.
Location of the camp
Poor evening programme
The location of the camp is exceptional and we really enjoyed the closeness to the dunes, as you could just walk out and climb them on foot.
There is one "boss" who decides all and he's constantly busy on his phone, so anything you need to know, ask, arrange is very lengthy and difficult. You are given no information whatsoever about the plan for your activities, dinner, breakfast, everything seems to be bothering him and no one gives any extra info. I really didnt like the approach and the hospitality.
Perfect desert camping with magnificent giant sand dune as back drop, inspiring sunrises and sunsets, star-filled sky, absolute silence, and random camels wandering around. We spent 2 nights here so we could experience the desert through the 24-hour cycle. The sleeps were warm and comfy, the meals tasty, and service impeccable from Assad, Joel and Joce. The owner Hamid, is a hardworking 15-year desert tourism veteran, and had lots of tales. Campfire and meal times make for great conversations with other guests. We paid OMR25 for the 25-min return 4x4 transfer from Bidiyah, and OMR10 per person for camel rides and dune bashing, both loads of fun. This is a licensed camp, which uses largely solar power and pumps up water from a 150-metre well.
Very friendly staff. Good dinner.
This camp is great for everybody who wants to get an authentic yet comfortable (NOT luxurious) desert experience with delicious food, outstanding hospitality and a forever-lasting experience! Both the staff and owners are tremendously friendly - we would come back any time!
Exceptional staff and resort, Though it is really simple, this was what we were looking for. Local tents, local food and enjoying a night in the dessert. It was great to share time with the owner. The staff looked after us very kindly.
suggest some larger tents where to accommodate a group of people travelling together
Nice staff
Place was full of mosquitos and the nets were broken and too small. It was also very hot and lacking a fan. Blankets were way too thick for the time of year. Bed too short. Worst night I’ve had in years.
Great location and very authentic. At the foot of a huge and beautifull dune. Very friendly staff.
Lacking some cultural explanations and activities at night (pit fire, stories, …)
Very good location far from the other camps, very kind staff and very good food for breakfast and dinner. Warm welcome from the owner of the camp.
welcoming staff, great food, lost in the sands, tour in the sand dunes, generating own electricity with solar energy. we were with another group of 3 friendly people from Germany. perfect time
nothing it was just perfect, despite the clouds which did not enable to watch the stars but were a blessing for the local people (only 1-2 days per year)
Authentic nomadic style tents in a secluded area next to a large dune. The location was perfect to watch the sunset and sunrise on the dune but also could you easily drive yourself back to the village near the desert! It was easy to get there as a meeting point at 3pm was arranged and then you could decide if you would like to go by your own car (totally recommend if you have a 4WD) or pay for a pick-up. The owner was super friendly and greeted us with tea/ coffee and snacks and shared some information about Omani traditions. We booked a camel ride for the morning (10 OMR per person) and were picked up (free dune bashing included) to go camel riding at a nearby camp - we loved it, was very much fun! Dinner and breakfast was good as well with many vegetarian options!
Nothing really - very authentic and thus we were fine with cold showers! ;)
Excellent staff, tasty and plentiful dinner and breakfast, wonderful location.
The bedding, towels, and the mosquito nets need updating.
Authenticity, personal touch, friendly staff, stunning and amazing views, silence, private bathroom, impressive to watch the stars during the night, beautiful to see the sun go down. Amazing food, both for dinner and breakfast.
All was fine, a suggestion could be to make the outside seating a bit more comfortable.
Location!!!!!! Fantastic, stunning. Staff was very helpful.
Beds in tent (hard!) and ablution block (not clean).
We appreciated that the desert camp was very simple (only tents, electricty only in the evening for the main tent). It was superbly located next to a big sand dune. The manager and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Simple, but very good food. The place was easy to find (some 15 km from the main road) because the son of the manager expected us at the office at the main road who lead us to the camp (that we reached without any problems with a SUV without 4x4). We booked a breathtaking one-hour-tour with a 4x4 car through the sand desert at sunrise.
Everything was excellent.
Further away in the desert,.beautiful. Tents are good.
The staff was so friendly, the food was nice and being in the desert was really great!
Authentic, natural, calm
Poor dessert
The camp is a gem and a very authentic stay in the desert. No electricity and comfortable basic beduin tents with perfect Omani hospitality. Have been several times and will for sure be back soon.
I loved everything and it was exactly what I was looking for.
The camp was far away from other camps which gave you a great feeling of being alone in the dessert. Amazing hosts and amazing food! Waking up with camels around the camp was awesome!
Everything was great!
Small group of tents, at 3 pm you can follow a driver to the camp with your own 4x4. Quiet , camels around, great dune bash drive, kind and informative owner/manager. Meals enough food.
Tent ceiling pretty low, small space but efficient and good mattress. Meals very basic.
The owner is a very humble and kind person. Booked two nights with bed/breakfast and dinner. It is genuinely a basic infrastructure, that is what is caters for. If you like the basic style, top. If you want luxury and air-con, book one which offers it. This retreat lives up to its name. The employees incredibly friendly. Having a shower under the stars, wonderful. Walk up the dune to view, sunset or sunrise. No artificial light at night, roaming camels. We booked a day tour drive through the Wahiba Sands desert to the Indian ocean with the owner (self-drive). This was fantastic if you love the desert, driving in sand, dunes and a superb meal of king-fish biryani. It is a long day, but believe me worth every penny and second.
Great experience in the dessert! Nice and friendly staff and very convenient meeting point at their office at the gas station. Good food and a lovely view from the sand dune
The sand dune is very high and the climb is not that easy, maybe walk a bit further away from the camp and go up there. One of the camps that is further away from town, but has still some light disturbance at night.
Incredibly friendly stuff and owner, very peaceful location. Loved everything about it, especially the walking around the dunes next to it. Totally recommended!
The owner and the staff are great, the location is perfect because your next to the sanddunes. Food is nice and it's a perfect combination of an authentic experience and comfort.
nothing
I spent two weeks in Oman but definitely this was the highlight of the trip. We were picked up by the owner from Al Wusta (as we didn't have a 4x4) and he drove us to the camp. There was only one group of friends and the rest of the camp was empty, which was nice as we chose this specific camp to relax and disconnect. Nice activities were offered (other guys did the dune bashing). The owner spent a really long time talking to us - he was the nicest person in the already very friendly country. The staff working there was very polite and helpful. Food options (including vegetarian!) were amazing, for the desert I think it was almost luxurious. I will always recommend this camp to everyone, it was really nice and peaceful. This camp is a gem of Wahiba Sands. And the tallest dune is located right next to the camp, which is a must to climb (although exhausting). The sunset was beautiful. The owner really cares about his business and the guest, as well as his staff.
Lokatie
Duurder dan andere locaties in Oman
The owner was very kind. He even had dinner with us and told us interesting stories about the Omanies and their culture. Also the staff was very friendly. The tents were great & clean and next to the camp was a big dune where we were able to see lovely sunsets and sunrises. We would definitely come here again and can highly recommend this camp.
Very nice and convenient camp in the desert. Exceptional host, great atmosphere, clean tents. Nice little touches: led lights in the tent and in the bathroom.
All was fine.
Everything was absolutly perfect and well done. Incredible expérience with amazing owner and a super staff. Thanks
None
lovely experience, all it was as described, and the walk to the top of the dune it was amazing. the owner is very kind!
We enjoyed a lot our stay at the retreat camp manager was helpful, punctual and friendly. Food was very nice and the unique experience of the desert is totally worth it. We recommend to do the camel ride.
typical desert location far away from city life
the sandstorm :) camel ride quite short
Proprietor is very friendly and shared interesting information about Oman and the Omani people, camp is in the perfect location by highest point of the dunes for excellent views of sunset /sunrise and near Bedouin camel herd where we were able to see camels roaming and feeding, food was also very good and our tent was quite comfortable. Overall camp had an excellent atmosphere where we could enjoy the desert experience and relax with other guests.
The big dune behind the camp, one of the highest in the area.
Average food, more indian than omani.
Wow, this place is so worth the trip! The owner of the camp is very kind and welcoming, and makes you feel comfortable upon arrival. To get to the camp, you have the option of following the owner in your own 4x4 (we drove in ours and it was easy, with no prior dessert driving experience) or you can pay for a ride there. We did the 20 minute camel ride and it was the perfect length. Breakfast and dinner were really amazing, exceeded our expectations. They made a campfire for us, which we enjoyed with some mint tea while we stargazed. It’s really fun to climb the big dune behind the camp for sunset, but it’s a lot of exercise! Beautiful view. Definitely recommend this camp.
Humaid worked hard to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Accommodation was fine and location was probably as good as it gets. we enjoyed dune bashing, a camel ride and watching the sunset and sunrise from the dunes next to the camp.
It was a shame there weren’t more people staying, but that’s not a reflection on the camp itself.
Deep in the desert, all on its own, this is a marvelous overnight stay. The tent is basic, but that is what you expect if you want a genuine stay in the desert. The dinner and breakfast were both good. Expect everything to get very sandy, but again, that is what you have to expect in the desert. You can climb the adjacent large dune to watch the sunset.
From the start our hosts were very friendly and extended a traditional welcome with coffee fruit and dates( welcome after long journey in the heat). The tents were comfortable, location by the highest sand dune was great and star gazing excellent on a clear night. Food was good too ( plenty of it - traditional Omani food)
Nothing really
The Camp is absolutely beautiful. The staff is great and the owner is such a nice guy. Food, tents, camel ride was just perfect. Also the dune bashing was great since it was also a scenic ride with stops at stunning places. we absolutely recommend this camp for a real desert adventure. if you want TV, pool and loud music this is not the place for you. However, if you want a real desert feeling you found the right place.

We chose this desert camp because it was dog-friendly and located a good way into the desert. It's a 20 minute drive from the meeting place in Al Wasil so there's no light pollution at night. It's also right next to a large dune which you can climb for an excellent view of sunset. Breakfast and dinner were delicious both nights we stayed. The tent and private bathroom were exactly as we'd expect, basic but functional. The beds are firm but not uncomfortable and come fitted with sheets, a duvet and a single pillow.
Some parts of the camp, like the mosquito netting around the beds, restaurant seating and bathroom fittings were a bit tired. We didn't feel the price matched the presentation of the camp. The only downside about the location is that the camp is beside a well used route. There was quite a lot of noise from this on our second night when we think someone was rounding up camels.
