Close and convenient for what we wanted. Very welcoming staff (Chris) Clean and comfortable. Great breakfast that set us up for the day. We were able to park the car in the hotel car park. Value for money.
Can't think of anything
Stayed at the Swan hotel for 3 nights with 3 friends for mountain biking in the forest of Dean and surrounding areas. The hotel is quite dated but the staff were excellent. We had our evening meal out on the Sunday as the pub shut at 7pm. So we had a curry from the Indian just across the road which was fine. We had the evening meal at the pub the next 2 evenings which was good value and very good. The bar lacks atmosphere as there was just the 4 of us in the place for most of the evening after happy hour finished at 6. The breakfast was a full English which was very good with various other options on offer. Overall we had a good time and enjoyed our stay.
The Swan is dated and very quiet
Very friendly
All good
Nice rooms clean and comfortable. Super range of drinks including excellent sleep. A great filling English breakfast was available so we tucked into it. Friendly and helpful staff. Car parking at back of hotel.
Nothing; it was all good.
Nice staff, good location, room basic in facilities
Breakfast was not good quality
Staff were lovely. The food was very good
They didn't replace the tea and coffee in our room.
Fantastic breakfast - top quality ingredients and well cooked x
We were on the road side so was a little noisy with window open.
Friendly staff, easy parking and a comfortable bed.
Nice quiet room but slightly dated.
We Had Business to do in the area. 1. BUY A NEW CAR.2 VISIT CHEPSTOW AGRICULTURE SHOW 3 SEE BROTHER IN LAW AND HIS WIFE who accompanied us to Chepstow Show. This was possible with the location of The Swan Inn at Lydney. The Breakfast was the biggest Full English Breakfast we have ever had.The kindness of the Landlady was overwhelming She was so helpful!! Please convey our thanks to her for putting herself out for us.Highly recommendable. We will stay there again that's for sure!.
Nothing !! we'll done Booking .Com.
Clean comfortable and a great location
The room was clean and the en suite was spacious. The restaurant had plenty of choice and the food was freshly cooked. The breakfast ,also had plenty of choice and again freshly cooked . The staff were very helpful ,friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them.
Clean great location
Nothing
The staff are very polite, helpful and kind. Chris really stand out there is nothing was too much trouble.
The stairs can be challenging but that's the building.
Everything
Easy to park, warm welcome, clean rooms, excellent breakfast and good value for Money.
Excellent breakfast choices
N/A
Chris, a member of staff, was amazing, nothing was any trouble for her. The location was excellent, room was a decent size, it was very clean and tidy.
Separate bathroom, although it was for our sole use and was just across the corridor from the room. Noise from the traffic, though it has to be said we did have to have the windows open because of the heat, which certainly didn’t help.
The management were utterly brilliant, so helpful and upbeat, they really set the tone for our stay
The decor is a bit tired, it really would benefit from a makeover
Staff were excellent. Very friendly and helpful. Nice comfy room, and a pleasant stay. Many thanks.
Perfect location
We have stayed here before and it is local to family
Nothing
Set in middle of the town with easy access to shops and walks with car park Great location from my needs. Ladies in the bar and doing breakfast which was freshly cooked to order were great. Good quality food and toast was excellent quality brown bread ! Had a small room as only me and it was ideal for my needs. Nice cosy bar and had a restaurant too. Did not get to try that. Would visit again
It was cozy and small
The towels didn’t accommodate bigger plus sized people and the bathroom only had shampoo body wash and soap so not ideal for a lady
breakfast was great and the staff very friendly
Great welcome. Room facilities, decoration excellent. Wonderful restaurant and dinner menu. Excellent breakfast
could not be faulted
First time staying here visiting family made to feel welcome by Chris and Joe when I returned back to the pud got a drink was sitting alone and the pud was busy a group this and ask me to join them locals to the village will visit again 😀
Was great , friendly staff, great stay. Nice breakfast
Felt the bed was a little uncomfortable. Otherwise the cleanliness was perfect
Location was perfect 👍breakfast was perfect orange juice and pots of tea came out first ordered breakfast which was lovely but went and asked girl if there was yoghurt’s which she went and got a tray of them for us to pick from which was lovely .and then toast and breakfast came out fantastic.
Nothing not to like .
Excellent- great value
Decor a little tired
The staff were absolutely brilliant. The food was excellent. Good choice for breakfast and dinner. The room was a little disappointing. The bed was very comfortable. We would stay again.
The room had no drawers for putting clothes away and a very limited rail for hanging clothes. There was nowhere in the bathroom to place items like shaving equipment or shower gels, shampoo, etc. The towels supplied were extremely small. It was very noisy at night as we were on a main road through Lydney. The pizza shop opposite had bright flashing lights on until late at night. Parking was hit and miss as the car park was a public car park so there wasn't always a place to park. We had a blue badge and it was difficult to find a space. Although housekeeping was advertised when booking we had no housekeeping for the time we stayed.
Evening meals lovely with a good choice
Could do with new carpets in room
The food quality, generous portions and service fir the breakfast was excellent.
I wish I had requested a room on a lower floor. The stairs are steep and narrow and so a second floor room was not great if you have even a minor mobility issue.
It was a great location and such good value for money. The breakfast was absolutely delicious…. How you can make a wonderful full English taste so great and be healthy!! Amazing!! Wonderful lovely staff

It was a bit dated but very clean
The hotel was clean and tidy all the staff were all brilliant and the food was well priced and above the standard I expected to get
Nothing just perfect
Room clean and comfortable and a good breakfast Staff were highly pleasant and helpful

Fantastic caring service you wont get in chain.Mega breakfast
Nothing
Super friendly staff. Great rooms for overnight stopover. We didn't realise they didn't do food on a Tuesday night but the landlady pointed us in the direction of a great takeaway and was happy for us to take it back at eat at the tables.
No problem at all and would use again .
Chambre spacieuse, personnel adorable et très accueillant. Bon petit déjeuner.
Le pub rattaché à l’hôtel ne sert plus après 19h. Il y a d’autres restaurants thaï et italien à côté .
Location. Friendly staff. Comfortable bed. Super breakfast.
Steps to rooms are quite steep , not great if you have mobility issues
Excellent one night stay
The breakfast at the Swan hotel lydney was very good 👍. The lady in the evening was lovely . And the lady who served breakfast was very good 👍 . All in all I had a very nice stay .
The room was disappointing. .
The evening meal on site was better than some high class restaurants by far, and very good value. The breakfast was freshly cooked and plenty of it. All the staff were friendly and nothing was to much trouble, we felt very welcome. The bedroom was very clean and cosy.
Not being able to stay longer.....
It was excellent
Stairs
The landlady was dry welcoming. The food was surprisingly good compared to other venues in the surrounding area.
No lift but hardly a criticism given the style of the building
The staff were fantastic - very kind Food excellent - beer (cider) good, great price and great location for the Forest of Dean railway
Nothing - older property and dated due to age but clean, tidy and welcoming
Very helpful Staff, the bed was comfortable and the food was excellent
Breakfast was great with excellent customer service. Hospitality was fantastic staff was great. Room was clean and tidy and was ready for me. Had a fan, hairdryer and tea coffee facilities also.
The bed was hard, and I didn't have a great sleep due to traffic noise and speeding cars, I was hot and couldn't open the window due to outside noise. I did have a fan but didn't use it because that would have been noisy too.
Great staff very friendly and welcoming. Room clean and comfortable. Great breakfast There was no meals the night we were there, .but there is a Thai restaurant 2 minutes walk away which was excellent.!
Front room so lots of traffic noise
Warm welcome, very clean and comfortable. Good value for money
Very friendly Very clean
The bathroom was separate
The 2 ladies who run the pub were very helpful and the food I had was excellent, a lunch and 2 breakfasts. The old inn is on a busy road and well used by locals who give it a lively atmosphere. My room overlooked the Main Street and was everything I needed.
The only slight negative is the parking, the pub car park is shared with other businesses and is always full. A free public car park is about 8mins walk away and usually has places.
Prachtig gelegen in het centrum van Lydney. On site Parking en vriendelijk personeel.
-
Excellent location. Lovely friendly staff. Very pleasant stay.
Not a lot of parking during the daytime.
Our second stay
Not an issue but also went there a second time because of the very good on site Restaurant which is closed Mondays and Tuesday's , and I live a long way from there .day
Great breakfast
All ok
Helpful staff ensured a takeaway breakfast was organised.
Very basic minimalist room and the smallest tv I've ever had in a "hotel" room
Excellent food. Very friendly staff. Very welcoming
Facilities quite basic.
Best pint of san Miguel i have ever had.
Bathroom wasnt in the room.
I stay here regularly when in the area. It has an old fashioned loveliness about it. Staff are brilliant and could not be more helpful. Premises are in centre of Lydney with good parking. Last food orders at 7 but there is an excellent Thai resteraunt next door. Always look forward to staying there.
Friendly staff who were very helpful. Meals both dinner and breakfast were excellent.
Nothing in particular. Broken towel rail in bathroom.
The location and breakfast was excellent. They even gave me gluten free pptions
I don't think they could have improved on it
Property was in a perfect spot for us, although a lovely old building the state of repair was good and the facilities were also good
Our room was on the top floor , which for us was not an issue however this wasn’t mentioned when we booked
The breakfast was superb and the staff very friendly and welcoming
The room was dated. Cracked window pane - standard size double bed - the room could have taken a king. Bedding was cheap and not great quality. Discolouring on ceiling above shower - black mould starting to come through
Staff were excellent, especially one lady unfortunately didn’t catch her name but she was superb! Made sure all was okay upon arrival and sorted breakfast out for us as we had to leave early, highly recommended and will be back. Good location.
Shower was a bit small, could do with a mini fridge in the room
More than amenable staff Ugly Duckling Restaurant good atmosphere and service in the bar good central for birdwatching in the Forest Quiet despite being on the main road The whole place seemed to give priority to accommodating the guests Other residents said similar.
Had to Park down the road 100 yards away - not a problem but no space at the rear probably due to building work in progress. Breakfast was fine, but white plates never aesthetically right for breakfast and - I had vegetarian - the lay out of food on the plate a little to regimented - meal itself fine - presentation could be improved.
This hotel is perfect for Lydney area stays. Staff are very friendly and helpful throughout your stay.. Room was clean, bed was comfy and had everything you needed in the room. The restaurant is very modern/new and clean. Restaurant meals were perfect and very hot. Breakfast was also very good. Price for room and breakfast is very good value for money thanks..
I stayed in room 1. Very nice room. Pleanty of water pressure in sink but very low pressure in shower. Maybe shower head blocked.
Breakfast was freshly cooked and very nice and the waitress was very pleasant and accommodating.
Friendly staff. Nice room, shower and good breakfast
Single pane window in the room, which had a big crack in it and didn't want to open the window in case it broke and fell out.
Our room was spotlessly clean, breakfast was ample, cooked well and presented nicely. We had dinner in the Ugly Duckling (the hotel's restaurant) which was outstanding. One particular staff member was so helpful (thankyou Chris) that it made us feel as though we were VIP guests!
Two slight niggles, the first age related, the stairs are a killer, next time we'll make sure we're not on the top floor. The only other criticism is personal to me, breakfast should have (needs) smoked bacon!
The lady looking after us was lovely very friendly and helpful could not do enough for us
Lydney and The Swan is our spiritual home every March for Cheltenham week . It's a perfect location to commute by train every day to Cheltenham. The Swan does an exceptional breakfast cooked to order . The rooms are clean and comfortable. They also have an excellent Restaurant and it's just a pity they don't do food on Monday and Tuesday . Also it would be great during Cheltenham week if the Kitchen stayed open slightly later . The staff are great and are very friendly. It's a hidden gem for Cheltenham week and we've booked again for 2027. It's also ideal for racegoers attending Chepstow. Lydney is a very quiet town but they have an excellent Indian Restaurant and a new Italian. They have an excellent Thai restaurant too The food at The Swan is excellent.

Accommodation was dated but clean and the shower was lovely and hot. The hotel staff are really friendly and can't do enough for you. The breakfast was great and lots of it. We also used the restaurant for our main meal each day and the dinners were superb and very reasonable.
Stairs are very steep , we were on the 2nd floor and it was a bit hard going.
It was lively and clean the breakfast was lovely with quality products
Perhaps maybe larger towels but that’s my preference I like a bath sheet
Excellent breakfast and dinner. Good central location
Everything is a little shabby
Because I needed an early breakfast I was provided with a very nice packed breakfast left by my door the previous evening.
Very friendly and helpful staff, clearly keen that guests should enjoy their stay. Very helpful with regard to meals. I have stayed at this hotel previously so both knew what to expect and chose to go again.
Nothing in particular. My stay included a Sunday night when the bar isn't open, but that is a very minor issue.
It was local to an event I going to on evening
None
I stay two or three times a year, it has become my home from home when I visit family and friends.
Staff friendly and helpful. Nice facilities.
Found the towel rail boost button lit the room at night, it is very bright.
Our room was warm and comfortable. and as the pub was closed on Christmas Day, everything was very quiet. We had an excellent breakfast breakfast where the landlord went out of his way. Everything was cooked from scratch and excellent. With the added benefit of a beautiful presented fruit salad.
Nothing to dislike.
The location was ideal for what we wanted to do. The breakfast was ample. The room was clean.
Nice and warm welcome and room. Excellent breakfast
They don't do food Monday and Tuesday night.
Not a big breakfast eater, but you had eggs and toast. And location AOK.
The bed pillows, they were too thick and hard , great for sitting up to read , but not for sleeping
Friendly staff, good food and a comfortable clean room. What more could I ask?
Room had all the required facilities. Excellent dinner and breakfast. The very friendly manager wanted to meet my every need
Cannot think of anything
Cosy room, lovely breakfast - just what I needed for a night away.
I came in the wrong door and ended up in the resturant rather than the bar. Go in the bar to check in.
Outstanding hospitable staff and exceptional breakfast
The room was excellent. At the price we paid, I was prepared for something a bit tired and dated. However, it was in good condition and up to date, and I can't think of anything that failed to meet our expectations in that regard. It was on the smaller side, which is no issue if you're out and about in the day, and completely on par for what you'd expect for the price. Certainly cosy as opposed to cramped. The hotelier was an absolutely lovely woman, eager to ensure the best stay for her guests. The breakfast was great, especially considering that it was included in a price that would have been competitive for the room alone. If we return to the area we would certainly stay here again.
When we arrived, there weren't any parking spaces available, but I believe some did free up later. However, there are plenty of places within a minute walk where you can park on the road without issue. We'd had a long drive so arriving in a full car park was a bit frustrating but not something to be upset about for more than a few seconds. A bit of information about alternate parking locations on the booking site could help reassure future guests that they're not likely going to have to go on long search to find parking nearby if the car park is full.
Breakfast great, bonus serve my favourite lager.
No it was all good.
Lovely comfortable central in Lydney, even had a desk as I’d mentioned a desk would be handy in my last review.
Room was very cold
Room was very cold 🥶 🤧
We really enjoyed our stay convenient Will stay there again
