Les escaliers, le lit
A lovely, well- kept inn in an excellent location. The room was beautifully decorated in period style, clean, and with thoughtful amenities. The owner was delightful and very helpful, particularly with carrying our bags up the stairs and with restaurant suggestions. An excellent stay!
Quirky hotel in older building
Funny smell in some areas
Everything
Diffferent, interesting place, good location
No hangers for clothes in closet Bed was very high, hard to get into being I’m 85 and short
Location was perfect. Right downtown. Walking distance to Harbor and restaurants
Location
we stayed in cottage 1. It said it had a queen bed. The bed in there is not queen. It's a double. As a result, we had to leave early. I ended up sleeping on the floor. There weren't even enough pillows for the couch bed which also is insane work with leather/pleather couch and polyester sheets. They obviously don't stay on. Also there is a bug issue in the bathroom. Spiders. Millipedes. We paid ~$400 a night for a 1 star experience. There was nothing cozy, Edwardian or Victorian about this place. It was a converted garage that had thirft store furniture and threadbare linens. The main door has a gap on one side. No weather stripping. You can see directly outside. Please consider upgrading this cottage significantly and/or taking it off the market. Wishing you all the best, Candi
Historic property and setting just a tiny stroll to shopping or the marina and beach. Bed was so comfy. Amazing Pink cafe nearby also Cucina Urbana is just around the corner . What more could I ask for?????
The only thing missing was a mat in the tub so showering and slipping did not go together 😩
Location.
It was way overpriced for what it was! The place was tired and old which I wouldn’t have minded if the price wasn’t this high. We booked the cottage for two adults and two children. The sofa bed was tiny and not big enough for two kids. It was also not prepared and we had to look for sheets and bedding and set up ourselves. The windows were not openable and the AC loud and inefficient so we had to vent the room in the middle of the night for some fresh air. Checking in was strange with a pay phone at the entrance to call reception to gain entrance to the building. Of all the nice stays we had during our trip in other (cheaper) places this one we did not enjoy.
I liked the location, very close to the beach and other facilities. It is an old jail, and bedrooms are accommodated in the ancient jail cells, which at first surprised us a little bit, but after it was kind of an experience and we enjoyed the overall stay. I also liked the fact that it is very private and easy for the check-in/ out. I'd recommend for adventurous friends who like the out-of-ordinary 🙂🙂🙂
No negative points, just a recommendation to advise what exactly the facility is (was) and what kind of experience to expect
Beautiful. Amazing location. Staff fantastic. Room awesome.
Close proximity to the waterfront and market
Slight musty smell coming from basement
It was interesting for it’s history. Rooms were clean and comfortable- had a charming, homey feel
The property itself wasn’t the issue- I felt that what was touted on the website was vastly exaggerated. We received very poor to no hospitality. The website spoke of many interesting experiences like the old jail museum, the guest coffee room etc- none of which were accessible. We inquired about touring the old jail and were not given very much guidance at all- only instructed to use our key to follow down the stairs. We couldn’t access anything except the basement foyer that led to the exercise yard. We didn’t get to see anything and no one was around to ask for assistance ( except the one person who had checked us in and gave us the verbal directions how to get to the museum side- and I would add that appeared annoyed about it).
Great size room, comfortable. Well presented. Big car park. Walking distance to eateries nearby.
To be picky, the surroundings of the hotel were a bit dated.
Nice ambiance, fantastic location and friendly staff!
One of the mattresses in our four bed room was beyond horrible.
The property is close to all, beach, Long Street and I could walk to everything I needed
The rooms were smaller than I expected but still comfortable and had all I needed
room was great, close to everything . my room was super clean and Vanessa was awesome
the hallways had an old smell
Location was perfect. Close to the beach and the main stripe of shops and restaurants.
There was no elevator
It was very close to our venue and it was an interesting place to stay. The attention to detail was great down to the tiny set of handcuffs on the key ring.
There are a lot of stairs, it is not like a best western (if that's what you're looking for) and the check in/out process was a little confusing. We had a little trouble with the wifi/tv but we went for a walk on the beach instead so that was probably a benefit.
Location was great: walkable to shops, restaurants and the beach. Receptionist was helpful and pleasant. There was an outdoor shared patio with tables and chairs. It was interesting and perfectly creepy visiting the jail museum in the basement. Fascinating to stay in what, not so long ago, was a jail.
No glassware, just plastic and paper cups. Bed linen was a polyester blend, not cotton. Fridge was badly dented. Greater attention should have been given to dusting: bedside lamp had not been dusted at all. Wifi was poor - kept cutting out in our room.
It's an interesting historical site, and the beds were very comfortable.
Our room accommodated two teenagers and two adults, but we were only provided with two bath towels, two washcloths, two coffee pods, and plastic cups for hot drinks. We found the price to be excessive given the amenities provided.
Staff seemed nice, great location, cool building
No fridge in the room, bathtub inside the bedroom (expected it to be in the bathroom), old water smell in the room (got used to it pretty quickly). We could live with all those, we get it, old buildings have their eccentricities. The real problem was that the mattress was absolute garbage, basically about as good as a blow up air mattress, any weight you put on it was pulled into the centre, so we spent the night trying to cling to the edges so we wouldn’t be piled on top of each other. Terrible sleep followed by back pain.
Le surplus parking proposé pour 2h00 de plus
Beautiful architecture.
Hard to find staff. When you find her, not friendly. I don't believe we were give the room I booked. Hallways musty smelling. Very over priced. Was supposed to be a jail, was more like a dungeon.
The location is great.
The bed was quite firm.
The location was central to what I needed. The hotel is beautiful and I love the character and architecture. Check in and Check out was easy. Parking was ample and close.
Wifi did not reach my room very well. I was trying to send receive emails for work and the wifi was not always within range. A few feet into the hall and it was strong. Outside the hotel was also strong.
Unique environment, clean and well maintained old building. Found the museum in the basement interesting. We did not have a prison cell room, but upstairs with a Victorian atmosphere and a castle as a mural at the head of the bed. Plenty of hot water, but had to waste a lot to get it to run hot.
Nice to have a lounge with microwave. Ideal for warming up restaurant leftovers. There were knives, but no forks. Bathroom sink had a stopper but no drain guard. Everything could drop down the drain, soap, lids, rings etc Bath was slippery. Had to use towel on it to take a safe shower. Would have been nice to have a grab bar. Old age and all that.
Location and decor
Staff inexistant
Very comfortable, well-furnished room in a distinctive building (the old county jail), so a nice change from the standard chain hotels. Cobourg is a small friendly town with lots of independent businesses. Waterfront is lovely.
All was good - note that the hotel does not offer meal options, but there is are good bakeries nearby for breakfast options
The bed was terribly uncomfortable. The room needs updating....as well as the facility. Overall, it was a terrible experience.
We were in one of the jail rooms rather than being in the main part of the hotel. These rooms are converted jail cells so you are exchanging a bit of comfort for character. It was a nice change from the cookie cutter business hotels we have been staying in. It is also a short walk from the beach.
In this jail room the toilet and shower were basically in the room with a curtain surrounding them. The toilet was not even surrounded completely by the curtain.
The property is unique and in a good location. The jail room was particularly unique, as it is made up of three actual 6ftx8ft jail cells, including one of the original bunk beds, but watch your head as the steel bed can be a real head banger. Definitely unique.
There is no front desk and no amenities of any kind, and even getting through the maze of halls and staircases is like trying to find your way around a carnival fun house. I get the feeling that the proprietors have little or no experience in actual hotel management. And don’t show up before 3:00, because the front door is literally locked, with no way to access anyone or anything. That said, it’s a unique experience that gives us something to talk about.
Le groupe allait à ;a pêche. Belle proximité.
Historic building. 2 blocks from marina and beach. 2 blocks from downtown.
No elevator. Steep steps to 2nd floor.
Vanessa was amazing. She greeted us right away and gave us a great tour. Wonderful history and unique place.

Nice location close to beach and high street
On arrival, WiFi didn't work in the room, since TV relied on WiFi, TV didn't work either. Following morning, WiFi worked. Check in between 3 and 7pm or they charge you extra (surcharge is C$25 per hour or part thereof.) ☹️ Room was small, little room around the bed. For the price (C$243) I expected more.
Clean and conveniently close to everything.
Old charm of the hotel.
We loved how it felt like you were in England as the hotel had the same feel as the ones in England does. We loved the experience of the jail. We were very impressed about the cleanliness of the whole place.
We did not like having to truck luggage far and upstairs instead of them having the back door available for guests to use. This is not a place for people with mobility issues. We were disappointed that the restaurant is no longer open but there were lots of places very close to go instead.
The location is excellent and the themed rooms really add an element of interest and charm that is quite unique.
You can’t walk into the lobby to check in, you have to call and be let in. Not a big deal, just mildly inconvenient.
Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Good location.
L’endroit semble plutot a l’abandon.
Room should have a shower or a hand shower
Staff let us in early and the room very well presented.
Not a big issue but Would have like to open the windows.
Themed boutique hotel experience
No elevator
Location was fantastic room was comfortable and quiet
Quirky and unique. It was a prison cell!
Would have been nice to have breakfast available
Didn’t even let me stay but there cool the building is very nice
They didn’t even let me stay but didn’t take my money and where nice
It was close to everything.
Nothing.
Lovely venue, quiet and clean. Perfect location with a 5 minute walk to the harbour and Main Street. Couldn’t fault anything about the place. I was a solo traveler and felt completely safe and comfortable.
The inn is beautiful, very close to the beach and in a great location overall, we were able to do everything on foot. I’d also like to give a special thank you to Vanessa, who noticed it was my husband’s birthday and kindly upgraded our room after a cancellation became available. Our stay was incredible and we absolutely loved it! We’ll definitely be back.
Could not find any of the recommended ones open early enough
Location
Tv didn’t work. Bed uncomfortable. Air loud. Didn’t know there was breakfast.
Location, original decor, warm welcome, very bike friendly - safe bike storage
No breakfast served.
The stairs to our room. was a problem for my husband due to heart issues
Location -dog friendly
The room was in the basement. There was no door or walls in the bathroom and the window faced a brick wall. The coffee machine didnt work
Location, clean, historic feel, everything as expected
Slightly over priced
Location and staff were fantastic
The bed was super uncomfortable - the mattress was long past needing replacement. And the tub was absolutely tiny, and given it was the only source of water for washing it should have been equipped with a wand or something for hair washing.
Very cool old jail turned into hotel. Right in downtown Cobourg so easy to walk everywhere. Clean rooms with interesting decor.
Beliggenhed tæt på marina
Værelset var stoppet med gamle, mørke møbler. Nedslidt. Lav kvalitet sengelinned. Ingen afsætningsplads på toilettet. Dårlig ankomstmodtagelse. Kedelig by. Pæn marina.
they recomended 2 resteraunts both of them were great and within easy walking distance from the King George Inn. very relaxing place.
King George Inn is a fascinating and historic building with interesting past. Our room was nice and comfortable and location was great, allowing us to walk downtown and around the beach and harbour. Local restaurant was great (Cucina Urbana) and we had an amazing evening talking with locals. Other highlight a few minutes from the hotel is the Victoria Halls with court room. The security guard told us the history and absolutely fascinating. Out of season there isn't a huge amount going on in Cobourg, but very glad we stayed there.
As mentioned, but other reviewers, the WiFi is pretty useless in the hotel. Mobile signal was ok, so not a big issue, although the WiFi could be easily fixed I would think. The outside of the hotel looks a bit run down and appears there is likely to be development happening. Hope the hotel remains.
The hotel is very unique and full of charm. The room was spotless and very well maintained. A really pleasant stay overall.
It was cool and historic
Petit déjeuner non inclus
Vanessa radiated warmth. She was lovely and we enjoyed bumping into her in town. She also gives brilliant recommendations. She showed us around some of the rooms with original jail features and the museum downstairs. It was one of our favorite places we stayed at during our 10 day Canada trip. I'd love to come back and stay in the town for a bit longer next time. The whole town had a real community feel
Coffee machine in the room could have been better, but other than that, there's nothing that could be better. Vanessa is great!
The hotel is very nicely decorated and each room has a different theme. My husband and I stayed in the library room while our daughters had a nautical theme. The rooms were lovely and very comfortable.
The wifi didn't work at all. The hotel has a late check in fee which we hadn’t noticed when we booked. They charge $25 per hour for every hour after 7pm that you check in. We arrived at 7.45pm. The hotel is not cheap so we would have hoped for better amenities such as shower gel instead of bars of soap in the bathroom.
The staff are absolutely so accommodating!! They made our stay more than welcoming. We ended up booking a room that wasn't quite suitable for our needs and gave us a perfect room without any worries!! I would recommend this place to anyone! We had a fabulous stay ❤️
The staff, the location is perfect! You can walk anywhere you need to go. Just park and explore the town. Close to the beach as well. Just a lovely quiet stay.
I like that the place has a history and they have a museum in the basement to show the jail.
I didn’t like that there is no reception. I also dont like that we were not told about the common rooms or that there is a museum at the basement we can go to— we just overheard it from another guest. The staff were barely there so you are unsure of who to ask for stuff.
It is so unique and interesting! Rooms were clean and they are very cute/pretty
The hotel manager is very accomodating and friendly. I haven't stayed in such a quiet hotel in many years! The location is excellent -- a very short walk to great restaurants and the lake.
The beauty of the place. It was very clean and well maintained
The staff was super accommodating. They let us check in late, helped with baggage. The helped friends decorate the room (anniversary surprise)
The room was spacious and had a fireplace and couch.
The room was cold. It has a fireplace that wasn’t hooked up and a heater that didn’t heat. The bed was uncomfortable. There were flat pillows and the bed had a sheet and a thin quilt on the bed so we slept in our clothes to keep warm. The hair dryer didn’t work, though they brought up a new one. The breakfast was the usual cereal and toast but no butter, and the cream cheese was garlic flavoured, not good on raisin bread. The food didn’t look fresh and nobody cleared the dirty dishes.
Had a lovely stay. The Inn is very well kept, clean and well decorated. The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to help us. We loved the history of the building and had a very comfortable stay! Will definitely stay here again on our next visit!
Friendliness and charm
NA
The room was lovely and quaint. Vanessa was great at welcoming us and providing background on the property.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. This is a Boutique hotel that is based on an old jail, the rooms are theme designed and all different. There is some great history and you can walk through the building and into the courtyard etc. This hotel is right by the water of Lake Ontario and also on the edge of the tourist area in the city. We spent a lot of time wondering in the quaint little specialty stores and there is a huge, wide calm and friendly beach just a few minutes walk from the hotel. We loved our stay here.
The ice machine was broken and there are no elevators, so you must be able to carry your luggage.
Walking distance to pier, beach and downtown shops and restaurants
Unique atmosphere and excellent location!
The staff was extremely responsive and helpful!
No breakfast that I was aware of. Hotel definitely quirky-great location within walking distance of downtown, beach etc Felt very safe.
For the most part no visible staff person 24/7.
