The shower
The parking The size of the room The noise all night The cost of the room
Location, location, location. We were staying for the music festival and it's in a perfect location bang in the middle of everything. It has a good car park too. Staff are helpful and friendly. This was the third time we've stayed.
Central, comfortable and great breakfast
Very minor but would be nice to have more selection of teas in the room, mint etc
Location, comfortable bed, stylish decor, powerful shower, soft towels
Lukewarm breakfast which was poor value for money, and was taken to the wrong table, we had to tell the member of staff that it was ours.
Every member of the team were polite and very respectful and helpful
Everything was fine
Nice breakfast
Shower was really bad, TV didn’t work and room wasn’t ready on time.
Exceptional establishment. Friendly and super efficient service.
Nothing
Very central and convenient location. Out of the ordinary cooked breakfast choices and a good choice of fruit ,yogurt, cereal, croissants and toast. No honey.
The room was up several sets of stairs and there was no lift.
The staff were excellent. Very comfortable room. Excellent bar and dining area.
Beautifully decorated and great facilities.
Expensive
As someone who has lived in Hertford most of her life the transformation of the bar and restaurant is amazing. The staff are also welcoming. Unfortunately, I will no longer eat here. The menu is awful and never changes with the season. It needs to offer better lite snack options for lunch as well. I think it has lost a lot of local people because of the menu, but McMullen’s don’t seem to care. A Saturday lunchtime in the summer and the bar area was empty even though there was no availability to book? We were a group of 7 and twice we were waiting for one persons food to arrive as it had been forgotten. With the heat the way it is you would think air conditioning would be a fantastic selling point! Please please update your menu and get someone descent in the kitchen. The Kingsmead is far superior and that shouldn’t be the case. Make the Salisbury great again!!!! 🙏🏻
Classic pub hotel. Comfortable rooms. Good central location. Helpful friendly staff
Small rooms. Restaurant was so-so.
Ultralaute Musik überall, viele Zimmer von Firmen belegt und gar nicht verfügbar, Personal bieten nur schlechte Zimmer für hohe Preise, weil die normalen Zimmer alle von Firmen reserviert sind.
lovely lovely old building with lots of history and tastefully set up interior. wonderful bar and bar food. amazing atmosphere. their fish & chips plate was the best we had in the UK.
asked the stuff to solve an issue with the shower, was promised to deal with it, still nothing happened. it is not dramatic, but a dissapointment.
Fantastic place to stay for a few days, chic, in great location with fantastic staff. Shout out to Anna, the receptionist, for going an extra mile to help us get around the town with ease! You made complicated travel arrangements a breeze!
We had booked a snug room but were very happy when we were allocated a double room which was very spacious. Room was very clean and bed was comfortable. Situated right in the middle of shops and restaurants so that was also a bonus. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast..we had there signature full English on the first morning..which was local produce and very tasty but very large so asked for less on the other 2 mornings which the chef was happy to do. Had a really nice roast dinner on the Sunday evening. It is a gem of a hotel. Would definitely recommend and if ever in Hertford again I would definitely book there.

Breakfast
We stayed here as part of a corporate event, and this lovely hotel was outstanding from start to finish. The food was amazing, the drinks were great, and the overall atmosphere was welcoming and relaxed. The rooms are full of character and very different from the standard chain hotel experience. Each room felt unique, with comfortable beds that ensured a great night's sleep. Breakfast was excellent, with plenty of choice and freshly cooked-to-order options available. The quality of the food throughout our stay was exceptional. Our whole team thoroughly enjoyed their stay, and the friendly, attentive staff made the experience even better. I would highly recommend this hotel for both business events and leisure stays. We will certainly be returning.
Excellent hotel. You felt as if you were in a notable building! Breakfast was awesome.
Trying to find the hotel via Sat Nav with roads blocked and a seemingly impossible place to find despite what appeared a straightforward location!
The breakfast was amazing and the staff were nice
The size of the room was disappointing for the money
Vanaf het moment dat je binnenkomt is het feest. Alles was geweldig en in stijl.

The breakfast was exellent
I was given a parking fine which I fine bizare as I was registered so stay from the 6th to the 7th June 2026 of which I'm currently awaiting the outcome, I did call the Sailsburys Arm and left a voice mail outlinging my concerns, todate Iam still awiating a reply, given the above and non compliance to give a reply, I will not be returning to stay overnight or use your restaurant .
Beautifully decorated, good location and amazing staff
Nice aesthetic and lovely staff. Brilliant variety of facilities available and clean bedroom.
Cobwebs behind the curtains at the window, but that's minor.
Central location. Lovely traditional features. Aircon in the recent hot weather was brilliant.
Great location, super comfy beds and bonus with air conditioning.
A really small thing but tea at breakfast was luke warm rather than hot. Not bad enough to moan about Everything else was fab!
A beautiful hotel in a great location. It has a car park at the rear up the side street also It is 2 minutes walk to some great little restaurants and pubs The rooms are compact but very comfortable and really clean, with air conditioning. A good shower and drink facilities/coffee machine, including local milk - a nice touch I didn't eat or drink at the bar/restaurant, but again it looked very quaint and relaxing
The room was very compact, with the bed up to the wall and window, which as I was on my own was fine - for an older couple, or younger who like space, choose your room carefully
Location
Room small and cramped
This hotel is clean and comfortable with excellent facilities and helpful staff. We stayed for 1 night in a snug room which was perfect. This is our go to hotel when we’re staying in Hertford.
The rooms. The building. The staff. The food. The service. All perfect. We booked for two nights to catch up with family. Staying at The Salisbury Arms Hotel was the 'Cherry on the cake' that made the whole trip a wonderful time. Will definitely book again. And the Bathroom in our room... Amazing.
Beautiful building. Great location and lovely staff
Nothing
Amazing room and bathroom. Beautifully decorated - wish we had got there earlier to spend more time in it.
The Air conditioning was amazing and the bed was very comfortable
Lots of stairs to climb
Very clean and in a good location
£160 I’ve paid and the aircon didn’t work in the room ? I have asked this in reception and got told someone will contact me it’s been nearly a week no one has tried to contact me appalling especially when it’s 30+ degree weather…
Great location right in the centre of town with very convenient parking. Has recently been updated very successfully and has now looks stylish but retains loads of character.
As an older property there seem to be occasional maintenance issues and this time the air conditioning wasn’t always working.
Rooms are charming
Nice and convienient place to stay
Good quality hotel
The rooms were a good size and very comfortable.
The television was difficult to use, not sure to use apps or terrestrial. Also the stair case is a little awkward for someone with walking difficulties. Could do with a hand rail from top to bottom.
Boutique feel and cosy pub vibes
Kitchen closed at 9pm
Beautiful old building, excellent decor and well maintained. Staff lovely.
Had trouble accessing the property at night - entry system wouldn’t work for any guests and took ages for someone to let us in. Could have at least put a bottle of water in the fridge. Signature room pics include robes but none in room, so misrepresentation of facilities. Wires hanging down from back of tv.
This is a cracking find, lovely staff rooms and hospitality.
Deco
Excellent room, fantastic bathroom with roll top bath and double shower. Bed very comfortable and didn’t hear doors banging in the night. We didn’t book for breakfast as the reviews were a bit varied but we decided in the morning to have it and it was marvelous! The staff were very attentive.
Nothing
I needed some first aid for a cut finger and received excellent treatment and care from the staff.
Great location
The bedroom was a "snug" room which we didn't realise meant the bed was up against a wall, so difficult for one of us to get out. Reception could have been more welcoming. Piped music is utterly unacceptable everywhere but in particular in the dining room when having breakfast.
The lady on reception (foreign accent, dark hair) was exceptionally helpful & kind. My wife has dementia and her help made a real difference.
It wasn't obvious the 'snug' rooms had one side of the bed against the wall.
Breakfast was good with very good range of choices
No complaints!
Beautifully renovated historical building!
Nothing!
Excellent location. Nespresso coffee machine good.
We had an accessible room as hotel does not have a lift. Bathroom door to wet room difficult to open and close as door handle too close to the door frame. Did not have the usual handle too for opening and closing the door. No hooks to hang anything in the wet room or a shelf to put toiletries. Tissues and a bottle of water would have been appreciated. Bar charged £5 for a bottle of water. The positioning of the TV, on the wall made it very difficult to get out of bed and walk around the bottom of the bed to the bathroom go for the person without mobility issues - not very good at night time. Vacuum Cleaner left in lobby as area between room 135 and 136, propped against the fire extinguisher. Room cold but two small portable electric heaters helped with this.
Location, room, cleanliness, breakfast, staff.
Shower tap loose in holder, so had to hand hold.
Location Style Nice staff Clean and tidy room
TV didn’t work for some reason. No loo roll holder - think it had broken off as fixture was there but no holder. No big deal but just looked a bit shabby as the rest of the room was so lovely.
Room good. Location excellent.
Lower rate for the room.
Everything was above our expectations. The staff are friendly, facilities are fantastic and comfortable.
Nothing,.
Nice hotel with good food
There were a few factors which really ruined our visit. First of all I booked two rooms, one for my wife and I and one for our friends. We go away for weekends quite often and I usually arrange the hotel. I booked two rooms with breakfast for The Salisbury Arms in Hertford where we have stayed before. The price for two rooms (4 people) with breakfast was about £250.00. A few days before we left for Hertford Booking.com sent a confirmation of the booking and the price quoted was approximately double. I queried the change in price at the hotel when checking in. The reason for the increase was that the smaller booked rooms were not available so we were larger more expensive roomss. I find that this was dishonest and reprehensible and not the way to treat customers. I would like to hear what you as a company have to say. Yours Sincerely, Michael Jenkins
Location, style and decor, quality of facilities, comfy bed, always robes.
The shower leaked across the bathroom floor, so by the time both my partner and I had had a shower, it was like a swimming pool in there.
Great location
Great hotel, food, location and gardens!!
Rad in the bathroom was not working but the staff offered to change my room
Die schönste und gemütlichste Unterkunft, die wir je hatten. Sehr sauber, sehr englisch, sehr empfehlenswert!

Room spacious and comfortable, Location of Hotel & the town itself. Interesting architecture. Staff friendly and obliging. The Hotel building itself is characterful and quirky.
The stairwell is looking a bit scruffy....needs another coat of paint. The towel heater in our bathroom was not working properly. The safe in our room was not working, alarm clock not working...needed a new battery, a little more regular checking would be good. These matters, with the exception of the towel rail, were dealt with quickly and efficiently..no complaints there! Also a non-slip shower & bath mat were supplied when asked.
Beautiful room!!!
Breakfast was first class . Loved the retro and Edwardian looks . Staff were helpful , friendly and lovely . 5star
