Parking was difficult

The location is very good, with plenty of free street parking nearby and easy access for a pleasant walk towards the beach. Breakfast was good, and the bar area was a nice place to relax. Our room had a good selection of tea and coffee. We also had Sunday lunch at the hotel, which was excellent and probably the highlight of our stay. Overall, the hotel worked well for a one-night stop in Gosport.

We stayed during a heatwave, so we completely understood that the room would be warmer than usual. However, the heavy duvet was not really suitable for the conditions and a lighter bedding option would have been appreciated. The shower drain was blocked, and we ended up asking for a plunger so that we could sort it out ourselves. The bedroom also felt quite dated and tired. We appreciate that refurbishing an older property requires significant investment, so that in itself would not necessarily have been a major issue. However, when rooms are older, excellent cleanliness becomes even more important, and unfortunately ours could have been cleaned much more thoroughly. There was quite a noticeable amount of dust.

The staff were very pleasant and the location was good.

Our toilet seat was broken, the shower drain was blocked with hair, which we had to remove. Dust on doors and the whole place could do with painting.

The bar was nice. Its been refurbished and was a pleasant space. There was a good selection of tea and coffee and hot drinks in our room.

Our room was dated, there were no water glasses in our room, the curtains had partly come off the curtain pole, the bed was uncomfortable and needs replacing, the decor needs refreshing, the bathroom bath tap was broken, the shower had a constant drip. The hallways had a strange smell as you walked to the room.

Breakfast and evening meal in bar very tasty and good value. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Very relaxed atmosphere and location perfect for our visit

English Breakfast not very delicious, was too salty and too fried. But everything else good.

Great location for a stroll on the beach and a walk to the Cock for a beer. The garden at the hotel was also a very nice location for a drink. The staff were very cheerful and friendly.

Generally a good value stay that could have been improved by upgrading the furniture and cramped surfaces for drinks making. Also the shower attachment needed maintenance.

Not AC no fan no window that opens. Cobwebs all over. Only black out curtains no veil option and everyone sat in garden or on road could see in fully so had to close full curtains. Water left sitting in kettle

Extremely helpful and friendly staff, particularly the reception staff. The room was comfortable, the bathroom was nice, and it was fairly quiet for the most part.

Like many streets in the UK it was a bit busy, especially early morning, if you have the window open, can get a bit noisy however this isn't a fault of the hotel itself. The breakfast was a little disappointing as our scrambled eggs were very dry/over done, though the rest of the breakfast was fine.

We were very impressed with the "feel" of the hotel. It's a well looked after, rather grand building but didn't feel at all formal. The staff were super helpful. We ate in the restaurant and had breakfast in the morning and the food was excellent. Very good value for money.

Claiming a sea view stretches the imagination but possibly accurate in winter without leaves on trees! High ceilings in the bar and restaurant amplify the noise so suggest some drapes or similar to reduce the background noise

Lovely well maintained period Building with lovely dinning area to the first floor front. It had a lively bar area to the rear with nice tables. There was also a front garden to sit out and enjoy a drink.

Being on my own I would have liked a quiet lounge where I could sit in a comfy chair (with a coffee or a drink) in the evening after I had eaten the excellent meal served me.

Some areas of the hotel are a little tired and could do with a freshen up. No bath mat or bath towel in one of the rooms we booked and television wasn't working.

Our standard room at the top was a bit small and hot, but was comfy and quiet. We should have paid more for a larger room.

Not disabled friendly. I require a walker to get about, but no stair ramps nor disabled bathrooms. There is an internal lift. Apart from some inconvenience I loved my stay, and that was due to the amazing staff.

Had to ask for breakfast table to be tidied up from previous guests and needed to ask for cups for tea/coffee. These things should’ve been done automatically. Having said that the staff were friendly and helpful and sorted the issues.

The staff were friendly and the room was comfortable.

The bed was not made well at all, the top quilt was merely pulled up over the crumpled sheets. The food was good but the wait for the evening meal was exceptionally long, I think the bar food was being dealt with before the residents orders, resulting in waiting for upto 45 minutes for food after ordering.

Some noisy guests kept my husband awake for a short time.

The location was great for what we required. It’s also within walking distance of the beach. Lots of parking available within the vicinity of the hotel.

Room decor was tired looking and could do with a refresh. The breakfast was disappointing, coffee was cold and service a little slow.

I felt perfectly safe staying here, which is important when travelling alone. Good GF choices available on the restaurant menu in the evening.

The breakfast was lovely, but I would have liked some GF cereal. The side view from the bedroom was the back entrance to a block of flats.

The hotel is very welcoming and staff are friendly and helpful. The location is really good and the breakfast is excellent.

The rooms were not clean, with dust everywhere carpet and the chair were old and covered in stains . The mattress on the bed was very soft so we ended up with a backache.

Chloe - who greeted and took the time to take us to the room was professional and charming.

Ideally located for the Birthday Party we were attending close by. Great bar, great staff, great beer garden, very quiet part of town, super breakfast, and easy enough to find parking in the street.

Was a tad warm in the evening and there was a fan in our room, but nothing can be done regards the current climate.

Dirty, tatty, smallest hotel room and bathroom. Everything about the room was unsatisfactory for the cost of the stay.

Booked at short notice, 2 hours before our arrival at 10.50pm. Reception lady was most welcoming and helpful. Clean, smart room. Breakfast staff also helpful and welcoming in the morning

The staff is amazing and very helpful. We called from the train understanding that we will arrive after the kitchen have stopped taking dinner orders and were very happy when ladies suggested we just order by phone and the food will be ready by the time we arrive. The food was delicious and we were very happy.

It was overall a hot day so nothing to do with the hotel, to be honest, but it was hot in the rooms.

We enjoyed the historical aspect of the hotel and the beautiful location. Breakfast was particularly good with swift service - the staff most helpful and kind. Our room was very pleasant.

A small fan in our bedroom would have been helpful but it was exceptionally hot weather. We were a little disconcerted when there was no space in the restaurant or bar in spite of making a booking

Breakfast was very good. Location was good on a lovely street. Smaller than the pictures make out though. Free on street parking in a nice area.

Room was stifling hot. Yes very hot weather we accept but this is becoming the normal and will only increase. Asked for a fan for the room. Told they had none as previous customers had stolen them. Very bad but should be replaced or install roof fixed fans or air-conditioning. Bed was a double but small. Poor night's sleep because of this. Room dated but adequate. Staff were poor on check in and on exit. Never asked usual questions like did you have a nice stay. Nothing like that or thank you see you again. We would not stay here again.

Cleaning equipment left in room on arrival and wasn’t finished off duff on floor and biscuits crumbs on table .

Comfortable big room, soundproofed. 10 minutes walk to the beach.

Too hot because the curtains of the big windows were open when we arrived, but there was a mini fan provided so it got better. The bathroom could've been cleaner but it was okay.

Great location, the bar was very good and reasonable (except for the bottled water).

The electric shower temperature gauge didn’t work (room 302). Had to use my pal’s shower next door. The full English breakfast had very good ingredients cooked well but was a tad cold - shame really.

Beautiful old hotel, kept in great condition. Great location for our needs. Staff were very accommodating, polite and friendly.. All smiles and no sour faces.. Food was great and ood menu for celiac customers. We would love to go back at some point in the future
