The location was perfect, quiet and only 2 mins walking from the beach and surf spot. Spacious with two rooms and a kitchen. Would highly recommend it. Breakfast was also really good

Prateep was a super nice and forthcoming host, very attentive and friendly, helped us with sl our needs, transfers etc. the breakfast is generous and homemade every day. He even invited us for an amazing dinner, we had local fish and it was plenty! Also greatt for kids with soem toys and snorkels and a fantastic terrace with seaview! and literally 1 min to the beach..

the kitchen is very basic but other than that everything is perfect.

Our hosts were amazing, so friendly and genuine. The breakfast was amazing, different every day, so yummy and generous. The house is a 2 minute walk to the beach. Do take his dinner recommendation and go to Ceylon Chef, 2 minutes up the road!

C'est notre logement préféré après 1 mois au Sri Lanka ! Situé à 50m d'une plage parfaite pour les enfants, ce logement est une vraie pépite, foncez ! Pradeep et sa famille sont d'une très grande gentillesse. Situé à 10 min de Silent Beach qui est sans conteste l'une des plus belles plages du Sri Lanka. Les petits déjeuners sont excellents et servis avec soin. Merci pour tout

Nous avons passé un séjour absolument parfait ! L'emplacement est imbattable, à seulement quelques pas de la plage, ce qui rend les sessions de surf ou les baignades matinales incroyablement faciles. Un immense merci à l'équipe pour leur gentillesse et leur accueil chaleureux ; on se sent tout de suite comme à la maison. Mention spéciale pour les petits déjeuners qui sont tout simplement délicieux et copieux, l'idéal pour bien commencer la journée. Nous reviendrons sans hésiter !

Nous avons passé un super séjour dans cette guest house. Tout y était : un magnifique jardin, de supers hôtes, au calme, à 50 mètres d une magnifique plage où on peut se baigner. Petite supérette et des restaurants autours.

An oasis on the edge of the quiet and serene Unakuruwa beach. The host and his family were incredible and provided a stand out breakfast.

We felt very welcome by the (family) owners. Very kind people that are genuinely there to help you and make the best out of your stay. The breakfast was very tasty and abundant. It always included fresh fruit, omelette, local curd and local roti or coconut pancakes. Super nice! The room was spacious and comfortable. The bed was great and the air conditioning worked well. The garden was beautifully maintained and quiet off the street with the sound of birds.

Wir verbrachten eine sehr schöne Woche im Shadow Surf Bay. Das Apartment liegt in einem wunderschönen Garten. Wir konnten viele Vögel beobachten, Streifenhörnchen laufen über die Äste, ein Pfau war oft auf den Nachbardächern und auch eine Affen Familie schaute mal vorbei. Auf der großen Terrasse mit Meerblick kann man sich wunderbar aufhalten. Der Unakuruwa Strand ist in einer Minute erreichbar. Er liegt geschützt und wir könnten immer schwimmen. Der riesige und wunderschöne Silent Beach ist in 10 Minuten zu Fuß erreichbar. Ein absolutes Highlight ist das tägliche Frühstück! Es schmeckte uns sehr, war abwechslungsreich und so viel, dass wir noch etwas im Kühlschrank für später aufgehoben haben. Unser Vermieter Pradeep verwöhnte uns wirklich! Wir genossen die Gespräche mit ihm sehr. Er gab uns viele Tipps, fuhr mit uns im öffentlichen Bus nach Tangalle, lud uns abends zu einem köstlichen Fisch ein, brachte uns ayurvedische Suppe zum Frühstück... Vielen herzlichen Dank! Wir können das Shadow Surf Bay wärmstens empfehlen und kommen gerne wieder!

Gostei muito de tudo. Logo quando chegámos ofereceram nós um café e um bolo na varanda. Todas as refeições eram servidas na varanda com muita natureza a volta o que foi muito bom! A localização é perfeita muito perto da silent beach e de outra praia bonita. Também há muitos restaurantes nas proximidades muito bons. A família é muito simpática e ajudou nos a organizar os dias e a ver tudo o que queríamos nesta zona. O quarto era muito limpo e confortável e tinha tudo o que precisávamos. A melhor parte foi o pequeno almoço ficamos duas noites e nas duas manhãs tivemos um pequeno almoço diferente cheio de coisas típicas do sri Lanka.

Highly recommended. We stayed with our three children in the upstairs appartment. The accomodation is semi open plan with 2 bedrooms with large beds. Air con but the appartment stays cool due to welcome shade from the palms in the garden. The owner Pradeep is a kind man who looks after you and cares about your experience. The sri lankan breakfast was great - we ate on our own balcony with variety of things each day and the best sri lankan omelette. The appartment is just down a side lane off the beach road - its pretty quiet and the garden has lots of greenery and birds etc. This is a lovely village in the tangalle zone with a great beach for kids. Thank you Pradeep for looking after us! Best wishes for your season

My stay at the Shadow Surf Bay was outstanding. I had an apartment with the sea view which had a big balcony where you can truly relax and also enjoy your meals. The place is very clean and well maintained. The hosts were incredibly hospitable and kind. Breakfast was generous, fresh and absolutely delicious. Out of all the places I stayed in Sri Lanka, this was by far the best! I will definitely return.

Für uns als Familie war es super, dass unsere Wohnung 2 Schlafzimmer hatte (1 mit AC, 1 mit Ventilator). Es hätte sogar eine eigene Küche gehabt, die wir aber nicht gebraucht haben. Es wae alles sehr sauber. Auf der Terrasse hat es einen grossen Tisch , 2 Liegen und einen Wäscheständer. Das Haus befindet sich in einem schönen Garten und man ist zu Fuss in 2 Minuten am Strand. Die nahe gelegene Silent Beach erreicht man fussläufig in ca. 15 Minuten. An der kleinen Strasse dorthin hat es diverse kleine Restaurants. Die Gastgeberfamilie war sehr freundlich und hat uns auch mit dem Transport vom Flughafen und danach zur nächsten Unterkunft geholfen. Das Frühstück war reichhaltig und abwechslungsreich. Wir können diese Unterkunft auf jeden Fall weiterempfehlen!

Останавливались здесь на 6 ночей в начале декабря 2025. Уютный семейный отель с очень ухоженным садом. Завтраки каждый день разные, всегда со свежими вкусными фруктами (рисовые лепешки, кокосовые блинчики, омлет, паста, курд). На человека два полотенца+ пляжные. Есть своя кухня, у хозяина можно попросить нож, чтобы самим раскрывать кокосы. Хозяин очень приветливый, готовил нам вкусный ужин(рыба +креветки), посоветовал места, рестораны, помог заказать трансфер в аэропорт. Есть горяча вода в душе. Океан в 3 минутах ходьбы, волн нет, вода чистая. До центра Тангалле 10 мин на Крейзе басе -50 рупий, остановка прям рядом с домом. По утрам ходят павлины во дворе, рядом обезьянки есть)

I liked the location and the relaxed jungle garden. Perfect to chill away from the crowds but close enough to all the attractions.

You will also have the warm welcoming of Pradeep and his wife, an human being with a lovely soul and good stories to tell about his life and his garden. Wat een ontzettend lieve gastheer, geweldig! Wij verbleven midden augustus in het boven-appartement met onze twee tieners. Hele fijne accommodatie met veel ruimte. Heerlijk terras / balkon met een soort chaise longue waar vanaf je zelfs de zee ziet. Uitgebreid ontbijt. Het lokale strandje is 2 minuten lopen, het beroemde Silent Beach is nog een paar minuten langer lopen. Midden augustus waren de golven op Silent Beach enorm, wat een geweld, het was niet mogelijk / toegestaan om te zwemmen, het strand is wel heel mooi. We konden wel zwemmen bij het strandje om de hoek. We maakten met onze tuk tuk een uitstap naar het Hummanaya Blow Hole in combinatie met Kudawella Beach. Dit was een heel fijn strand. Super zacht zand, leuke golven, niet al die stenen en op de bodem, maar lekker zacht. Geluncht bij Calma en daarna lekker op een ligbedje liggen lezen terwijl de kids zich vermaakten met zand en water. Dit strand is echt een aanrader vanaf Shadow Surf Bay! Het Blow Hole hebben we nooit meer gezien, omdat we lekker chillden op het strand… Ga 's avonds eten bij Wife's Kitchen op een paar minuten lopen, helemaal leuk, gezellig en lekker daar!

À Proximité de deux très belles plages : Silent beach pour le farniente et Unakuruwa beach pour le surf au milieu des tortues (exceptionnel !) Un hôte très disponible et agréable qui nous a fait passer un magnifique séjour. Logement propre et confortable. Délicieux petits déjeuners (parmi les meilleurs pris au Sri Lanka). De la terrasse nous avons pu admirer des singes, des écureuils et d’autres animaux.

Отель расположен на самой окраине Тангалле. Рядом есть два пляжа - Унакурава(совсем рядом, в минуте ходьбы) и Сайлент Бич ( чуть подальше, идти до него минут 7). Расположение хорошо тем, что позволяет купаться и в сезон, и в несезон. В сезон Сайлент бич - большой шикарный пляж, но в несезон - там большие волны, купаться может быть некомфортно. Зато Унакурва всегда имеет небольшое волнение в любое время, там есть точка где можно зайти и нормально купаться практически всегда. Мы были как раз в несезон (конец июля, начало августа), и практически каждый день были на Унакурава. Пляж маленький, но народу тоже очень мало. Есть ресторан на берегу , есть шезлонги, можно спокойно без проблем располагаться в тени деревьев.   Отелей рядом с Унакурва очень мало и они все небольшие. Так что локация очень уединённая. По сути эта окраина Тангалле (которая типичная Шри-Ланкская деревня), поэтому чувствуется уединение, ощущение что живёшь прямо в джунглях. Лазеют обезьяны, всякие зверьки, птички. Но в прицнипе минут 10 на тук туке ( или пару минут на машине ) можно доехать до центра Тангалле, там есть несколько супермаркетов, обменник, магазанчики и т.д.   Ресторанов вообще рядом много, но в несезон работают не все.   Рядом дорога, которая соединяет все южные прибрежные деревни. К северу - недалеко автомагистраль. Так что транспортная доступная хорошая. Если брать на прокат машину - удобно ездить и смотреть какие нибудь достопримечательности.   Подведя некоторый итог - если важно более уединённое расположение в гуще природы (но с шаговой доступностью пляжа) то место отличное. Мы планировали остаться там на неделю, но продлили ещё на одну.   В отеле сдаётся первый этаж и второй (мы жили на втором). В прицнипе, довольно просторно. Две комнаты, кухня + терраса на балкончике. С террасы виден океан. Удобные большие кровати, кондиционер. Вокруг всякие пальмы, деревья, ощущение что в джунглях живёшь. Под утро приходят обезянки и разные другие зверушки.

De prachtige grote tuin met bijzondere bomen, planten en dieren (bv. reuzeneekhoorn), vriendelijke eigenaren (kleinschalig familie business), heerlijk groot en vers ontbijt, regelen alles voor wat je wil ondernemen, zoals het bijzondere turtle beach waar we een groene schildpad (ruim 1 meter) eieren hebben zien leggen, heel bijzonder. Ook prachtige stranden in het bijzonder silent beach. Daarnaast is ceylon chef restaurant echt een aanrader om te gaan eten op 100m afstand.

Velmi vstřícný a ochotný pan majitel, vše vysvětlil, kam jet, jakým autobusem, kde se koupat. Snídaně byla výborná. Výhled do zahrady a na oceán.

Hezká vila v krásné zahradě, všude plno ptáků, veverek a ještěrek. Pokoj prostorný, resp. náš rodinný pokoj byly 2 místnosti s manželskými postelemi, k tomu kuchyně s ledničkou a koupelna. Vše zcela čisté. Velmi milá a pozorná obsluha, kokosový drink na uvítanou. Snídaně v ceně byla velmi bohatá a chutná . A na pláž asi minuta cesty.

We had the very best time in shadow surf bay. The place is very nice, 2 minutes from the beach, great surfing. The apart ment is clean, has a very well equipped kitchen, the breakfast is incredible good and varies day by day. The family is very friendly and helpful. We highly recommend the place and hope to come back.

Location was excellent. Village vibe away from busy town area. 30 seconds to quiet Unukuruwa Beach which was clean with a couple of options for food and drink. Few minutes walk to Silent Beach which was clean, a little more populated (wouldn't call it busy though), with good food & drink options. Other good options for dinner, tuk tuks and Ayurevedic massage close by. Little shop just up the street. Accomodation was basic but very clean, little kitchen with good fridge and enough space. Friendly family and delicious, large & varied breakfast every day.

Loved the openness of the villa. We all felt like we had our own space and the huge balcony was a great space to hang out on for breakfast, early morning watching the peacock or squirrels in the nearby forest/ gardens. You are metres from the sea. We loved this bay, reef break for our 18 year old surfer and fantastic snorkelling for me. Was finally rewarded with a snorkel with a turtle on my last swim as the waves were gentle and no surfers were on the break and that’s where it likes to hang out. The owners are brilliant- helpful, delicious breakfast and good recommendations for other beaches to visit nearby- silent beach and Ranlakshmi Paradise beach

We love that there is space for our family of four. The separate bedroom means our kids can go to bed and have quiet even if we don’t want to as most family rooms are one big room and this has the extra room on the side. The mini kitchen is perfect with a big fridge and kettle and hot plate - great when you’re wanting to fix something quick and cheap for a meal. The breakfast is enormous and has variety and is cooked/prepared fresh on request. The location is perfect and it literally a 30 second walk onto the beach. There is parking and the staff are so friendly and helpful. We couldn’t ask for more.

Owner did his best! We felt like home, apartment was clean, spacious and have very nice garden. Beach is very close, lots of restaurants and nice places. Breakfast was 10/10, we had a lot of food, everything was super delicious!

Our stay at Shadow Surf Bay was exceptional. Although we experienced heavy rainfall we managed to get in some beach swimming at the two close beaches. Very comfortable accomodation, the best in Sri Lanka. We had two bedrooms with a beautiful view to the sea. Breakfast was delicious, every day other taste. The sea is only two minute from the house. We recommend to visit this place.

- first time in sri lanka that accommodation looks better in real life than in pictures. Spacious and clean. - Hosts were amazing I can't find good words to describe them. They really really went out of their way to make our stay better, each morning different breakfast, which we couldn't eat, so we would save it for later in the fridge (by the 3 day fridge was full).. Help with which beaches to visit (which are best for our 2y daughter). Restaurant recommandation, Tuk tuk rates so we don't get scammed Help with transport to mirissa - it is close to 2 beaches - lovely garden with lots of fruits. - ac and hot water is always available.

Location was perfect for us, it’s in walkable distance to unakuruwa beach which is swimming friendly. Close to the silent beach. Garden was very beautiful with natural trees. Lovely clean and comfortable room set in lush gardens with sun loungers on our balcony. Breakfast was varied and plentiful and served on our balcony. Staff were really lovely and helpful. Room has a separate kitchenette with large fridge. Focus on little extras is excellent - handwash not bar of soap, extra hand towel by sink, large beach towels, two plump pillows etc. Really good value for money and would highly recommend.

Unakuruwa is a nice quiet location without crouds of tourists. Small shops, sweet family eateries, a bus stop and a beach just around the corner, other beaches at a walkable distance and by bus. As mentioned in other comments, great stuff, clean, superb breakfasts. Surprisingly, there were no mosquitos, so we could enjoy our evenings outside. We were concerned about the combined. WC/shower, but the water dried quickly in day hours, so it was ok. Totally pleased with our stay!

Everything was simply perfect. We were very impressed by the kindness and high level of hospitality of the host family. The breakfast was fabulous; it was not only breakfast but also lunch and dinner at once.

Friendly owner made an amazing breakfast for us and delivered it to our balcony. Location is very close to the beach, rooms were very clean.

We booked the two bedroom apartment, there was an ornamental lattice above the internal doorway that had large gaps (probably to allow air circulation between the rooms), the only issue with this was that the bedrooms were no longer sound proof.

We really enjoyed staying at this beautiful property. The best part is the amazing balcony you can feel you are in a jungle with many beautiful trees. Even though there were some rainy days sitting on the balcony still made it a nice feeling. The wifi is super good too, we were able to work easily. The breakfast js amazing, the best we had in Sri Lanka, big, varied and taste meals! The host family is super kind and helpful. They can help in motorbike renting too.

Really nice owner, beautiful garden, near to the Silent Beach, very good breakfast (they made it all vegetarian for us). We had a great stay!

We had a wonderful stay. The property is uniquely beautiful, with a lush tropical garden filled with squirrels and peacocks. The view from that terrace will from now on be one of my favourite travel moments. We were met with such hospitality and kindness, truly a pleasurable experience. Make sure you arrange a dinner at the property! It was so delicious.

The location and room itself were great. The breakfast were very good with big portions. The staff was very nice and flexible, helping with whatever I needed.

Shadow Surf is a wonderful house in a beautiful setting. The facilities are ideal with a very comfy big bed, small kitchenette and well fitted bathroom with hot shower. Set in a stunning tropical garden with beautiful birds and squirrels everywhere, even the occasional monkey and snake come past to see what’s happening as you sit on the comfy loungers outside. Close by are numerous good local shops and places to eat we really enjoyed Pubudu’s Sri Lankan curry next door and a 5 minute walk to Secret Beach which is the most stunning and quiet tropical beach gives you a few seafood restaurants for after a washing in the shorebreak (it gets wild). It’s so quiet and peaceful in Shadow we enjoyed being able to grab a tuk tuk into Tangalle (5 mins) of Dickwella and Hiriketiya (10 mins) and return to our tropical oasis. Pradeep and his wife whom are the hosts are simply amazing. Breakfast is nothing short of a banquet with enough food provided to be put in the fridge and enjoyed for lunch and even dinner later. They are incredibly polite and friendly and just really nice people to chat with about local life and gain pointers of what’s happening locally. A 30 second walk from the beach and a great surf break, we came for 4 days and stayed for 2 weeks and will definitely be coming back in the future.

Shadow Surf Bay was absolutely wonderful and every consideration was given to my comfort, from suggesting where to visit, to bringing me fresh coconut, to supplying facilities for clothes washing, even getting up to see me off at 5.30am! The food was absolutely stunning, and I am now addicted to egg hoppers with avocado and chilli 😄 Shadow Surf Bay is a quiet accommodation just back from the beach with places to relax outside the room.

From arrival we were treated like royalty. Sumptuous breakfasts, fabulous gardens and the beach on our doorstep. Turtles swimming in the water was a highlight. Pradeep took charge to organise trips to other beaches, fishing trip, tuk tuks, train guidance and train transfers. The hospitality was unparalleled in its generosity. Fish caught were cooked and served to perfection. We had great conversations and laughs. Cannot recommend highly enough.

My favorite stay in Sri Lanka so far! Very clean room, very comfortable bed and pillows and delicious big breakfast. There are only two rooms surrounded by a beautiful garden and 50 meters away from a small beach. The host is the nicest person and will do everything to welcome you! The area is so calm and Silent Beach at walking distance is the best to chill and rest.
