LakeSide Cabana Tissamaharama

It's a raw place on the banks of a lake. Plenty of fresh air. We also had an unexpected visitor after sunset. A crocodile right below our hut on stilts.

We were the only guests so most of the food on the menu wasn't available. Drinks offered was just beer. Room has no AC, only 2 fans. No windows so bugs were plentiful in room. Even though we had a net covering the bed, the bugs were inside net.

We spent 2 nights in this hut, the place is beautiful, quiet and quiet. We arrived at the last moment and Vimukthi was able to organize a safari for the next day 4h with a breakfast to take away. Vimukthi and his family are exceptional hosts, listening to all our needs and desires, above all, the cuisine is excellent! Posizione tranquilla fuori dal centro della cittadina, accanto al lago, in mezzo a palme da cocco e banani. Il personale è stato disponibilissimo a soddisfare ogni nostra esigenza. La capanna rialzata molto bella.

Die Lage, die Bauart der Unterkunft und vor allem die sehr gastfreundlichen und hilfsbereiten Vermieter mit ihren zwei lieben Hunden trugen zum gelungenen Aufenthalt bei. Das Essen war sehr lecker und auch die Organisation von Fahrten und Ausflügen verlief zuverlässig und reibungslos.

Séjour avec des enfants de 7 et 4 ans. Idéal pour nous, l’endroit est génial pour les enfants et l’accès à Yala et Bundala est facile via l’hôte. L’hôte propose les repas, la famille est adorable. Mais vous êtes aussi complètement à l’aise et au calme.

The property was very pretty in a setting near the lake. The tree house vibe was fun, the family hosts were very kind and attentive to all our needs. They organised our Yala tour for us which was fabulous, we saw a leopard and a sloth bear. I could not recommend more highly.

In Mitten der Natur, in einem Stelzehaus mit Blick auf einen schönen See. Obwohl das Stelzenhaus offen ist, hatten wir keine Probleme mit Tieren. Abenteuer pur. Die Besitzer sind super nett und halfen uns angagiert bei unserer Weiterreise. Frühstück und Abendessen war richtig lecker und günstig. Der Yala Nationalpakt ist gut zu erreichen. Wer mal etwas außergewöhnliches sucht, ist hier richtig.

The lakeside cabana has an amazing view of the lake. We loved the treehouse aesthetic, feeling like you were one with the forest. We ate dinner there both nights and it was delicious! It was a great stay to pair with a safari in Yala! We booked through the accommodation and were so happy with that decision! We got Pathumm, who has been driving safaris for 7 years, and couldn’t have been more satisfied!! Of course we knew its nature and there’s no guarantee to see animals but we were so lucky and saw a leopard within 25 minutes soaking up the morning rays on the rocks! Later, we saw one up in the trees taking a nap. Since we were on the full day safari, Pathumm expertly advised us to wait because he will come down to eventually drink etc- so glad we listened to him and because of his expert driving, we were the only jeep to get a straight on view of Lucas (king of Yala). We also got 2 very close up views of elephants, seeing 3 in total! Plus monkeys playing, a Sambor deer, giant crocs, water buffalo, peacocks and so many birds! The lunch was also delicious!

Really lovely location, excellent price, quiet and surrounded by greenery. Great to stay here before or after Yala safari. Gardens very lovely, hosts were very nice and welcoming, cooked one of the best, if not the best, kottu we have had in Sri Lanka! Mix up with the rooms, but the room we were given was still lovely and very cute!

Beautiful, peaceful and calm location and property! The owners were so friendly and the food we had for dinners both nights were delicious.

What a place. Lake view in a cabana. Wonderfull. I book the safari in the Yala National park with them because their were perfect host. Laundry service. Place to parc car or scooter. Everything 5/5 thank you for this moment.

The proximity to nature made this stay so peaceful. It’s nice to stay with a family. They made us great food and organised the safari for us. Lots of shaded outside area by the lake to relax.

Sehr herzlicher Empfang man hatte das Gefühl zur Familie zu gehören. Das Essen ist ausgezeichnet. Man geht auf alle Wünsche ein. Das Grundstück mit dem angrenzenden See ist wunderschön. Auch der gebuchte Transfer zum nächsten Ort hat super geklappt.🙋‍♀️👍

Ils se mettent en quatre pour vous aider si besoin La cuisine est préparée avec amour et délicieuse. L endroit atypique vous offrira une vue magnifique sur le lac avec des levés du soleil aux somptueuses couleurs. A RECOMMANDER !!!

Stair to our cabana were slippery and difficult to climb

They had a nice dog and the staff were friendly when we arrived

We knew it was budget but the accommodation was poorly lit, not particularly clean, full of bugs and the bed linen was both inadequate and damp. We left after the first night, the property recorded us as a no show. We paid for two nights but even though the site said USD the owners wanted rupees which we didn’t have. They got very annoyed about that. We paid for the food with rupees. They were not friendly when we left

Sehr schöne Lage am See. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt in der Lakeview Cabana.  Das Abendessen ist hervorragend und die Gastgeberfamilie wirklich nett. Sie schicken mir sogar ein vergessenes Shirt nach. Danke vielmals. Wir kommen gern wieder.

Domki nad samym jeziorem, prawie jak w dzungli ale czyste , przewiewne z klimatem :), gospodyni miła i pomocna, zamówilismy też u nich kolacje , prawdziwy Lankijski posiłek oraz taxi z Ella i 2 Jeepy na safari . Wszystko idealnie . Jako premia koło domku potrwafia zjawić sie np warany :) Super

Unfortunately there was rat poison in the room beneath the beds. That was giving off a real hatsh smell. While it's understandable that it is necessary maybe there is also another way to prevent rodents.

Epic experience! We stayed in the tree house, it was perfect for our 2 families of 4. We also had dinner cooked there, adults had the Sri Lankan curry and kids had chicken noodles, highly recommend and so much food. As there aren’t restaurants around, this is the best option. The location is beautiful and peaceful, staying directly on the river, you’ll see beautiful birds, monkeys and if you’re lucky, a crocodile. The owners son is 10, his name is Manjet and he’s lovely, his smile is heart melting. If anyone is heading over, I know he’d love a cricket bat if you have room in your language. We also booked our safari directly through the property, this worked well for us as we had a jeep to ourselves and were well cared for. Make sure you take cash as there are no atm’s close. Yala is about a 35 minute drive from the accommodation. We saw elephants, mongoose, crocodiles, deer, water buffalo, heaps of beautiful birds and monkeys.

Authentic experience with the outdoor kitchen, the food that the hosts made. One of the best dinners we had. They were very helpful hosts and kind. We took the Yala safari with them, and they also helped organise our transfer to Ella with the Udawalawa safari on the way.

Интересный вариант проживания, домик на сваях, экзотично, рядом с природой, поют птици, летает большое количество, разнообразие птиц огромное.. Постель чистая, нет посуды совсем, чашек не хватало, хотя чайник стоит.

Много комаров, нет горячей воды, хотя был подогреватель, но он не работал. Домик старый, когда кто нибудь ходит в нем очень шумно и трясётся все. Озеро не видно, освещения не хватает, лампочек недостаточно, и очень темно. Всю ночь пели молитвы в храме в громкоговоритель.

De perfecte locatie als je van natuur houdt om te verblijven tijdens je safari. Bijzonder vriendelijke familie. Mijn safari laten regelen door ze voor een zeer schappelijke prijs voor een gehele dag, perfect als je alleen rondtrekt. 3 hele lieve honden en sochtends zelfs een krokodil aan de oever van het terrein!

Pobyt bardzo się nam podobał z dala od zgiełku, do miasta najlepiej podskoczyć tuk tukiem, w okolicy nie ma żadnych sklepów, ale w wodę czy napoje można zaopatrzyć się u gospodarzy. Dobry stosunek jakości co ceny!

We enjoyed our stay at this family-run homestay near Yala! It's located right in the jungle with a lovely view of the lake — so peaceful and relaxing. The family was kind and welcoming. They helped us organize a fantastic safari to Yala National Park. Everything went smoothly, and we saw so much wild nature! Recommended for anyone looking for a quiet, nature-filled stay close to Yala.

La familia fue super cercana, a la cena tuvimos una larga conversación con ellos muy interesante en la que aprendimos mucho del país y si cultura, hicimos el safari con ellos y todo fue genial incluso nos dejaron un desayuno para llevar. El lugar es precioso y super recomendable de visitar

Por nuestra parte no hay nada malo, lo único es que si eres aprensivo con los animales avisamos: la cabaña es estupenda pero al estar en ese entorno hay muchos bichos y animales de todo tipo, la cabaña no tiene mosquiteras en las ventanas por los que entraban bichos y mosquitos aparte nos entró una rana por el váter.

Magnifique emplacement face au lac, d'où l'on peut voir le lever du soleil. Agréable d'écouter les bruits de la nuit (dommage que la voisine écoute la télé très fort le soir et qu'un resort plus loin fasse la fête ce soir-là). Très bons repas. La famille est très sympa. Plutôt que d'aller faire un safari, nous avons choisi de passer la journée dans une plantation de bananes familiale où nous avons pu nous promener et cuisiner un délicieux repas (beaucoup plus authentique que le safari).

Res. Un lloc molt bo per relaxar-te en mig de la natura

Die Lage ist ein Traum. Die Gastgeber unglaublich freundlich. Es herrschte eine familiäre Atmosphäre, die unglaublich gut tat. Das Baumhaus ein absolutes Erlebnis 😊. Die Fenster waren ohne Glas 😊. Das Essen unglaublich lecker. Das Wandern um den See ebenfalls sehenswert.

Der Deckenventelator war kaputt. Jedoch standen 2 Standventilatoren zur Verfügung. Einige Lampen funktionierten nicht oder gaben nur so viel Licht ab, wie ein Kindernachtlicht. Insgesamt sehr spärlich beleuchtet. Wir mussten uns mit unsrer Taschenlampe helfen. Das Türschloss war defekt. Wir hatten jedoch den Eindruck das unser Hab und Gut absolut sicher ist.

Super cabane dans les bois près d'un lac c'est super joli Nous avons fait la sortie à la "ferme" dans la jungle avec le jeep une super journée sur le parc national de yala où nous avons super bien mangé local et nous avons appris plein de choses sur les plantations les animaux etc... A faire sans hésitation Et en gros plus mon fils avait oublié son doudou la propriétaire s'est chargée de le transmettre à un passager et nous avons pu le récupérer 💕

nous avions une cabane deluxe face au lac vue imprenable dans un très beau jardin et reçu par une véritable gentille famille et 3 adorables chiens. Possibilité de manger et petit déjeuner sur place tout est fait à la minute c'est frais et délicieux. Une adresse a conseiller réellement.

il faut savoir que c'est excentré du centre de tissa donc tué tué à chaque fois.

Ce sont des cabanes dans les arbres très confortables avec une vue magnifique sur le lac. Douche avec eau chaude ! Personnel accueillant, super gentil. On a joué aux jeux de société avec leur fils. Merci pour ces moments ! De plus nous étions à 30 min en voiture de l'entrée du parc Yala.

We, a family of four (two adults, to older teenagers) had an incredible stay at the Lakeside Cabana! The family is very nice, friendly and welcoming. The hostess is enormously helpful as well as an excellent cook. We ended up having both breakfast and dinner there each day of our stay. The cabanas are really cool and comfortable, and such a beautiful location on the lake and amongst palm and coconut trees. We also had help to organize a private safari tour with a guide named Indu: he was also very friendly and exceptionally skilled and attentive (had such an impressive eye at spotting even smaller animals in the bushes)! We also highly recommend Indu and the safari. It was an all-around wonderful stay and we had such a great time, and great talks with the family, and the hostess was an exceptionally kind person. We really recommend staying here, and we hope so much to return!

Great location by the lake side. While the accommodation is basic it is more than comfortable. Meals available here where very good. Easy access to local attractions.

Super-friendly family as owners and exceptional location. The garden is also great and with a lot of trees (coconut among them), bushes and little ponds, perfect for the kids. The view on the lake is beautiful - and despite that we had no mosquitos. We were the only guests at that time, the family offered a spontaneous cooking class as well. They even organised our safari with a very nice quide.

Host was very nice and helpful. Had dinner there, was simple but good. Room is very big. It is a cool experience but be prepared to some bugs crawling over you in the night. We also booked a half day safari through them and was wel organised. We got some breakfast and snacks for the way.

I'm a bit torn with this review, but here is the good: The location is exactly as expected and the grounds are nice. Walking around the lake was nice and it was relaxing place to be, generally. The staff seemed very amicable, but there were issues as well. The safari was the clutch point here. She booked us with Indu from spotting trails, and he is an absolute gem of a person and guide on a safari. We saw leopards three times, and all up close. He is kind and friendly and has so much to share and will make sure that you get a great view and that even when you aren't seeing big things, you are getting right up to take the best shots of every little bird and animal. He is amazing. I can't rave enough about him. The property has pets, and they are fun.for the most part, but also there are some issues there

Just a hint: don't leave your shoes anywhere the cat goes. Our shoes are ruined from the cat peeing in them. The dogs are nice but the little one just bites and bites. Everyone was lovely until I started to wonder why one man was sleeping on the couch next to the dining area. I joked that he was sleeping on the couch because he's lazy-- he laid there for days, aside from petting my kids heads and laying out our plates once or twice. He's not lazy-- he was very sick and they left him there with our food and now my children and I are all sick like he was and in a very remote place (not the location, we left days ago) with no medicine and we don't speak the language. Shame on you. You left your sick family member with the guests and it's your business. We came home from safari exhausted. My phone battery was dead. I had been up since 4 am and it was almost 6 pm. Due to zero communication about the food, we only knew we had half the food and we're STARVING and we couldn't find any of the staff/family anywhere. I couldn't call an Uber or pick me, it's far out, I couldn't find them about dinner (you have to ask an hour ahead), and my kids were crying... They just disappeared at dinner time and hid. It made for a bad night having to walk into town with the dogs following us and not even having a charge in my phone, etc. Unprofessional and selfish staff who could not care less if you starve, get lost, get sick, get pissed on.... I have travelled all over Asia on a shoestring. We stay in dives. I draw the line at being disrespected like that. Im not here to be extracted from like that. Shame on you. Also the wifi barley works right next to it.

Beuatiful place with amazing view over the lake. Lovely house with very nice owner who cooked lunch and diner for us, both delicious! Also the property is relly nice, witb beautiful plants and flowers, really teopical! And the 3 dogs were so cute!

We stayed in the lakeside cabana, the views were amazing! The room had everything you needed in it and was comfortable. The family (and the dogs) were simply amazing! The dad picked us up from our hotel in Ella for a really good price and on the way back did little stops and spoke to us about the area and the animals. We booked the safari through the hotel and that was one of the best days of the whole holiday, Indu the driver was great at his job and the food provided by the hotel for the whole day was delicious! We saw everything, including two leopards and Indu was very knowledgeable. We stayed over the Sri Lanka new year and we were invited to join in the family festivities with the extended family and joined the feast! Again... delicious! What a place to stay, couldn't recommend it more!

Very nice and quiet area, close to nature, great lake view. Really cute cabanas, we really enjoyed relaxing in front of our small tree house. Very friendly and welcoming hosts, delicious dinner. A lot of mosquitoes and bugs due the lake nearby, no "real" windows, only a mosquito net above the bed, so bring mosquito spray with you. Unfortunately quite muddy water, so taking a shower wasn't the best experience. Booking a safari was not worthed for us, because there were way too many jeeps in the national park and we didn't see a lot of animals, which is a pity for the price we paid.

Genuinely the best home stay I have ever stayed at! Where to start!??! First of all, the family are some of the nicest people I have ever met, and will literally do anything for you. The dad (sorry I forgot his name😢😢) took me around the village on his scooter and showed me around, we ended up stopping off to play cricket with the locals which was just incredible. The son of the family is such a sweet boy and loves to play football and badminton with you. He’s a funny character and definitely makes the experience so much better! There was a beautiful feel to this family and they wanted to include you in everything. The food they offer was fresh and amazing! The actual room is basic, but has everything you need! It overlooks a beautiful lake where you can catch an outstanding sunrise. You 100% need to book the safari with the homestay as we did and was the best experience ever! We saw 2 leopards which I understand is not common, but it’s all thanks to the guide, we were there really early to beat the crowds and it 100% paid off. The driver was so knowledgeable and tried his best to make us have the best time. The safari name is spotting trails. This experience is one of my best whilst traveling and for the price, it’s insane as it’s really affordable. I will 100% be returning!

The location was lovely, it was a very quiet place on the lakeside, except for the array of bird life which made for a wondrous dawn awakening. The lady who ran the place was very helpful and accommodating, and gave service with a smile. The cabins and bungalows were very clean.

We have been before and loved it so much we came back! The lakeside cabana is a wonderful place to stay with views directly over the lake through which swim water buffalo, egrets sitting high on their backs, hitching a ride. You can walk around the lakes and , if lucky, spot the odd crocodile. Great place for bird watching. The dawn chorus is a wondrous cacophony I shall never forget. The local food was cooked in front of us on outside stoves. The family are so kind and helpful too. Thank you to them all.

Very beautiful location, peaceful and beautiful by a lake with lots of wildlife. A room in a tree house is very special and quite unusual. The room doesn't have air-conditioning but the fans and mosquito net were fine and I slept very well there. Lovely, helpful owners Recommend local guide and TuKtuk driver Denzil who is very knowledgeable about the area. After I left he took me to Ella via the amazing Buddhas carved into the rocks and the spectacular waterfall at Diyaluma. It has a kettle and hot shower. There are two friendly dogs which give the place a homely feel. There are peacocks nesting up in the trees making an interesting cry.

Not much really. Nowhere to put clothes though not a big problem. The trip to Yala was good, well organised, good driver and guide, but talking to other people, it was quite expensive.

Amazing tree house cabana at a lakeside - stunning views and nature sounds, great garden with fresh coconuts. Comfy room with warm water, clean and well maintained. Amazingly friendly owners, and the loveliest dogs living there. Relax at it’s finest! Can’t miss this place!

This is our second stay at Lakeside Cabana. We liked it so much last time, we decided to return. The cabana overlooking the lake is wonderful! You can see many birds and hear their songs, especially at dawn. The owners are so nice and the food was also delicious.

The family is absolutely amazing. Delicious dinner, beautiful view. Lovely place.

My suggestion is to do your own research before go to Safari with recommended guide. Our experience was pretty poor. But anyway, hosts did their best to find us a guide :-)

What a special place and special people. They do everything to make it as perfect as it can be. Cook fresh (and a lot) good breakfast , fresh fruit. Amazing cabins with view. The nature is beautiful. Cute dogs. They can arrange safari for you which I would have loved to know because our tour was way more expensive. Also pick ups and taxi. Great price / value . Thanks for letting us stay here

Really lovely staff who waited for us as we arrived late after a long travel day. Lovely communal space and the rooms are bug and spacious, with a lot of your own private space to enjoy. The food is good too. Lovely service all round - helped us with tuk tuks and buses also. The dogs are very sweet and cuddly as a bonus.
