Actually it is one of the best place to stay. Service level & comfortability is super. I will recommend to anyone who visit to Katharagama.

I recommend this hotel. It's located away from the city, near a lake where you can admire many species of birds in the evening. The rooms are very comfortable and clean, with hot water and air conditioning. I stay here every time I visit Sri Lanka. There's a huge covered outdoor terrace where you can spend evenings even in the rain. And the gentlemen who run this hotel are the nicest people in the world

Beautiful house and a great breakfast—I loved the papaya juice! The hosts were very accommodating; they organized a safari for me at a very reasonable price, allowed me to charge my electric tuk-tuk, and suggested other activities like night bird watching. I wasn't interested in the latter, but there was no pressure at all—they have a very relaxed "if you want it, it's here; if not, no problem" attitude, which I really appreciated. The nearby lake, Debarawewa, is a real gem and offered the best photo opportunities I found around Tissamaharama. You can even see peacocks walking on the roof of the house! It’s only a 5-minute drive to town or the "Flying Foxes" tree (where bats wake up and fly off at sunset). Just a heads-up: don't swim or get too close to the water, as crocodiles live in the lake.

Die Lage vom Birds View Hotel ist einfach zauberhaft. Direkt am See gelegen, die vielen wunderschönen Vögel samt Vogelkonzert war einfach wunderbar!! I'm See bitte nicht schwimmen!! Es leben Krokodile darin. Wir haben eins schwimmend in der Nähe der Lodge gesehen. Das Zimmer und Bad sind sehr sauber und über dem Bett hängt ein Moskitonetz. Das Bad ist geräumig und man kann auch heiß duschen. Der Gastgeber ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Wir haben dort Sri Lanka Frühstück genossen und das Dinner war auch sehr lecker! Ein rundum schöner Aufenthalt!

Manque un peu de débit dans la salle de bain et eau tiède. Peu gênant car il faisait très chaud!

Sehr freundlicher Besitzer, es werden Safari in den Yala Nationalpark, Vogelbeobachtungstouren und Nachttouren zur Großkatzenbeobachtung angeboten. Das Essen war sehr gut und die Portionen waren mehr als ausreichend. Man ist mitten in der Natur und kann von der Terasse aus schon einige Tiere beobachten, am See nebenan kann man auch Krokodile sehen.

Die Zimmer könnten moderner sein, für den Preis braucht man aber auch keinen Luxus erwarten.

Hotel très calme au cœur de la nature, près des lacs. Idéal pour observer les oiseaux. Le gérant est très serviable. Nous avons loué un scooter par son intermédiaire et pu sillonné les environs.

Tolle Unterkunft in einer großartigen Lage direkt am See. Perfekter Startpunkt für Safaris in Yala oder Bundala und auch fußläufig kann man um die Unterkunft herum zahlreiche Vögel entdecken auf den Seen und auch eine riesige Flughund-Kolonie befindet sich in der Nähe. Mein Zimmer war ziemlich einfach, aber absolut ausreichend und die Gastgeber waren sehr hilfsbereit und aufmerksam. Ich habe bei einer Rollertour die Stadt gezeigt bekommen und auch das Essen war hervorragend und abwechslungsreich. Volle Empfehlung!

Le propriétaire est très attentionné,il nous a donné de très bons conseils pour profiter de notre séjour. il nous a servi de super jus de fruits maison, les repas sont extras: rice chicken et chicken kottu ( les meilleurs que nous ayons mangé ). Il nous a également organisé un super safari a Yala.

L'hôtel Hibiscus (au top) qui nous a accueilli en remplacement de l'hôtel Birds View. A notre arrivée, on nous a annoncé que l'hôtel Birds View était complet alors que nous avions réservé. Tout l'hôtel avait été pris par une famille de Colombo et notre réservation avait sauté sans être prévenu !!

Nous n'avons pas apprécié de ne pas avoir été informé de l'annulation de notre réservation et devoir prendre le temps de trouver un autre hôtel pour le soir même.

Clean rooms, a beautiful garden, and a picturesque, peaceful location. The host helped us organize a safari trip, served a delicious dinner, fruit cocktails, and ice cream despite our late check-in. The next morning, we were welcomed with tea and breakfast for our journey to Yala National Park. Thank you for everything — we highly recommend this place.

Tolle Lage direkt am See, der Gastgeber ist etwas zurückhaltend, aber sehr freundlich und herzlich. Frühstück ist gut und reichhaltig Zur Begrüßung und zwischendurch wurden wir mit Fruchtsaft und Kokosnuss verwöhnt und sogar zur Weiterreise mit unseren Fahrrädern gab es noch ein kleines Lunchpaket. Schön war auch die vermittelte Tour zur Beobachtung von Eule und anderen Vögeln der Gegend.

Vores ophold på Hotel Bird View var dejligt. Værelserne har aircondition, fremragende faciliteter og er utroligt rene og rummelige! Vi nød en lækker middag her, og familien, der ejer det, er utrolig venlig og hjælpsom. De planlagde også en fantastisk safari i Yala for os. Meget komfortabelt og i en smuk have, dette er et fantastisk sted at bo, når man besøger Yala.

The surroundings are lovely and serene, the beds are decent, and the rooms are quite lovely and roomy. Additionally, the food is the greatest we've ever had in Sri Lanka! They also booked a safari for us, and we had the best time at a lower cost than all the other websites. You may definitely check out this hotel!

Abbiamo visto molti uccelli e scoiattoli in giardino e la proprietà si trova in una posizione incantevole vicino al lago. Il personale è stato accogliente e premuroso; ci hanno preparato una deliziosa colazione, organizzato un safari nel Parco di Yala e ci hanno offerto degli ottimi spuntini lungo la strada.

La gentillesse et la prévenance de nos hôtes. Le premier petit déjeuner sri Lankais n’était pas forcément à notre goût, ils se sont adaptés, ils nous ont proposé les jours suivants un petit déjeuner européen. La terrasse de l’hôtel est spacieuse et agréable. Safari proposé au top.

Malheureusement comme souvent au Sri Lanka peu de pression à la douche.

The staff is excellent and the service is excellent. It was a good stay. They also provide affordable safari services at Yala and transportation throughout the nation.

Sameera was an amazing host; he showed me the lake at sunset so I could see wildlife, and then we looked for owls. Situated directly in front of the lake, the villa is a pleasant place to stay. I highly recommend this place because he was very helpful and dropped me off in town multiple times.

A lovely property with a view of the lake. Lots of birdlife in and around the property. A short but pretty distance to town, easily done by foot, bike or vehicle. Our room was clean, spacious and comfortable with aircon, fan hot water and mosquito nets. Breakfast was delicious and large. Coconut pancakes were fabulous. Our host was attentive and helpful.

Location, very close to the lake, quiet and peaceful. Large property with very pleasant and spacious areas for eating and relaxing. The 2 brothers were most welcoming and helpful. The breakfast was amazing and so well presented. We were taken to see the bats in the evening at no cost to us. Unfortunately we had to cut our stay short due to altered plans. We would not hesitate to stay at Hotel Bjrds View again.

Run by two lovely, kind, helpful & welcoming brothers, Samira & Indiga & tucked away outside of Tissa amidst a verdant garden. Delicious & plentiful SriLankan breakfast is included. Our room had a fan & aircon & good shower in the bathroom. Great communal balcony. Enjoyable trip to Yala arranged for us. Trees full of fruit bats about 15 mins walk. Loads of birdlife around.

Loved watching birds from the balcony. Access to the beach and the chance to see turtles was great! The food in the adjoining restaurant was great. Delicious curry.

It doesn’t get better than this! What a peaceful place to stay. Our hosts were charming, helpful and the food very generous and varied. We really looked forward to dinner time! The whole hotel is scrupulously clean and maintained to the highest of standards. We believe our tuk tuk driver was a relative who was charming , very helpful and drove carefully We didn’t want to leave! Thank you for making our four nights with you so special. It’s deep in nature but only a short tuk tuk ride to the town. The best of both worlds!

Very peaceful calm quite surrounding. Hosts are very helpful and supportive. They served very tasty foods. Clean and comfortable rooms. Can see a various birds in surrounding. They provide a service beyond expectations.

We really recommend you to choose this place in Tissa because of many reasons: the owners are nice and very helpful, they welcome you with a drink and gave us also coconut water 'cause we asked for It. The surrounding area is incredible peaceful, quiete and with a great nature. From the terrase you can see a lake and the beautiful garden that surrounds the house. It Is such a relaxing place!!!!!

Location is not bad

I’m sorry to say it but it was dirty, unfortunately we found a huge cockroach in the pillow- and overall it was not clean, the towels smell bad too.

The hotel is situated along the lake so it’s completely inside the nature. It’s a very quiet location and they can arrange a safari for you. The hosts are extremely kind: they gave us welcome drinks, a free ride to see the bat 🦇 trees and a coconut after the safari!

As I said the location is inside the nature, so if you want to go somewhere else to eat you have to go with a tuktuk. For us that wasn’t a problem because we had a really good dinner at the hotel.

Our room and the accommodation exceeded our expectations..... Everyone visiting Sri Lanka should stay here. Why? I hear you ask. Located only slightly out of town, it is surrounded by trees and birds, with magnificent views across the lake and beyond. Outside there is a lovely wide walk on the embankment along the lake. Our hosts, who are brothers, greeted us with a long cool drink when we arrived and are lovely people. The breakfast was exceptionally good. And the accommodation was spotless, of course. The open verandah for meals and breakfast was the perfect location and caught the breeze. When we needed to find something from the shops, they were happy to guide us until we found it and negotiated the local price. Very good value for money. Memories for life were made from our stay.

Everything was perfect

I chose to stay here while visiting Yala National Park. The hotel staff were very welcoming and attentive always asking if there was anything they could do for us. Our Safari was organised through them which I highly recommend doing. We were offered bicycle rentals but ran out of time on our busy schedule. We were two female travellers who felt safe during our stay. There is not a whole lot going on in Tissa but the hotels location right on the lake made for great walks and sunsets before our dinners prepared in house. Our rooms both had working aircon, ceiling fans and hot water.

I think I opted for the room with lake view but my view was of the restaurant. Totally fine as I loved my stay however I don't think there is a room with lake view.

Beautiful location, close to two of the lakes. We had a lovely stroll in the afternoon and early evening to go watch the fruit bats and birds. A/C worked well. Very friendly hosts. The guesthouse is cheap compared to others in the area; dinner was also cheap.

For this price, we can’t really complain. The pictures paint a slightly too optimistic picture though. WiFi was very, very slow, which meant planning the rest of trip was virtually impossible. We did book a trip to Yala National Park at the guesthouse, but as it’s quite far from town, we could not compare prices.

Very helpful staff, he arranged a full day safari. He kept offering me tea or coffee, even at 4 am before leaving to the safari. Location is nice just next to a beautiful lake with lots of birds. I would definitely recommend.

In the proximity of the accommodation I didn’t find any restaurants. It is kind of in the middle of jungle, so during the night it was noisy from the animals, I needed earplugs for a nice sleep.

Pleasant stay, you can wake up with the peacocks. Very friendly people, good breakfast and good food. Lot's of birds in the garden, two lakes are very close ideal to watch several birds.

As has been stated by many people already, the family/brothers that run this guesthouse are very friendly and accommodating. They really want to make you feel as comfortable as possible. And they do! All credits to them. Although for us it was initially not clear what we could book regarding safaris (maybe because of the language barrier), we decided to go for it and the guides they booked were really good and doing their best to make the safari a nice one.

Visitors should realize that it is a no frills hotel. Our room was big and the beds were comfortable, but there are no extras. Basic but functioning.

The location of this hotel is amazing. It overlooks the lake which is full of wildlife and has many beautiful birds to look at. It is also within walking distance of the Bat Tree which is a spectacular sight. I would recommend eschewing staying in Tissa town to stay here as it is much more authentic and peaceful. The owner of the hotel is also a lovely man who went out of his way to help my partner when he rolled his ankle, even providing him with a balm for which we were very grateful. His cooking is also delicious and he welcomed us back each day with a juice. We would stay again.

Host is such a wonderful, kind, helpful and pleasant man! He took care about our takeaway breakfast on safari, organized everything in the best possible way! Besides location between 2 lakes is beautiful. Great spot for people interested in birding, you can see a lot of species around! you can enjoy sunsets and beautiful view!

Quite place next to the lake, perfect for water bird watching. In good distance to national parks. Refreshing "coconut" welcome drink on arrival. Tasty breakfast with fresh fruit. Friendly staff which arranged taxi to our next destination..

The staff were very attentive and offered a welcome drink when we arrived, and one more free drink after a safari. We asked about coffee in the morning and they served coffee at 4:30 for free. There are kind and contact dogs in the territory of the hotel. The territory is beautiful and you can see a big lake right next to the entrance to the hotel territory. In our room everything was clean and we didn't hear any noise all night.

The property is located beside a beautiful lake with much bird life all around. The staff were excellent and we were overfed for breakfast. Easy Tuk Tuk ride into nearby town. Would come again.

Breakfast was good. Only we booked a family room and they wanted to put us in a basic room with no view. Luckily we completed and got the room we booked. When we left, they cancelled our booking, so they had not to pay booking.com. very strange! Hotel is at a beautiful lake, with a lot on nature.

Indika and his brother are lovely hosts. They make sure their guests are fulfilled and served like kings/queens. I did feel pampered! On top of that, they cook great local food at a very affordable price, and they have a good network for Safaris.

This place is perfect if you're planning to explore Yala through safaris. We organized ours with the hotel, and it turned out to be great fun and good value. The room was not only clean but also comfortable, offering lovely views of the surrounding countryside. The refreshing welcome drinks were a delightful touch. The hotel lives up to its name, providing an amazing lake view with an abundance of birdlife. Highly recommended for nature enthusiasts!

The owners was really nice and helpful. Good food and they have a laundry service which is great! we also liked the terrace!

I'd recommend a room with a/c because it was too hot. That's too bad the room we stayed in was dark with no windows to bring light. It's a bit far from town, a 45 minutes walk but at least it was peaceful! the bathroom wasn't really clean (spider webs, ants, insects...)

Exceptionally quiet and peaceful location a little out of towm centre next to a Wewa which offered lovely views. Indika was a fabulous host and made sure all our needs were met. Very beautiful and quiet guesthouse at the lake. Perfect if you want to do safaris in Yala. We stayed for three nights and would have liked to stay longer if possible. The owner is super friendly and makes very delicious food. Almost to every meal he made fresh fruit juices for free. For the safaris we had to leave quite early around 4:30 in the morning. But that was no problem as the owner had coffee ready at 4:15 and also packed breakfast for later. Laundry service was also no problem. If you like birds and nature in general the location at the lake is perfect. I would definitely come back here anytime.

We had a fantastic stay for four days! The hotel is like a little quiet oasis right between two lakes. They are full of fascinating animals, like monitors, flying foxes, monkeys, crocodiles and many many bird species. You can walk to the nearby center or take a tuktuk or just enjoy the peaceful silence and rest. Its easy to get picked up for Safari tours from the Hotel aswell. The owner was very very kind and looking after us very well. I would love to come back and highly recommend the place for a relaxing break on your trip.
