You probably wont find a better view from a hotel anywhere. Amazing sea views. Crashing waves. Beautiful jungle feel. Complete with peacocks, lizards, bats and exotic birds. Staff superb and the owner delightful. Food was plentiful and good and watching the waves just beneath your table was magic. Short tuk tuk to the town. Easy to arrange transport. Walk to beach 5 minutes easy but on an unmade road. You can't swim in the sea in June July but the swimming pool was lovely.
Of course would have liked air conditioning but we managed with two fans and slept brilliantly. We are elderly and found the road access easy.
Very good breakfast in great setting. Perfect place for quiet, secluded holiday break.

Lovely location gorgeous views and good breakfast. Nice clean room and friendly staff. Pool area beautiful and clean with views down to rocks.
No AC but there were 2 fans. Location is up a bumpy steep track but our driver managed in a normal car although it is a public road.
Gut gelegen, in zehn Minuten (Gyombokka Beach) bzw.
Beautiful setting right in front of the ocean waves. Superb pool and amazing, well-maintained outdoor areas. Very comfortable room and one of the best bathrooms we had in Sri Lankan guesthouses. Although there is no air conditioning, the ceiling fans were more than enough for a good night’s sleep. Nice beaches nearby, and the staff were very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast was simple but tasty. We had an excellent stay.
Access is not very easy due to a rough road, but with a van or tuk-tuk it was not a problem.
Obsługa zawsze uśmiechnięta i pomocna. Wrócimy
Beautiful place to stay. Breakfast served in a cabana overlooking the Indian Ocean. 🙏 staff were lovely. Pool big and outside areas great. Easy walking distance to great places to eat. Really tropical environment. Tangalle- lovely town.
Villa Lucky Star is situated in an unbelievable position between two lovely beaches and its atmosphere is one of calmness and beauty. Breakfast was superb with eggs, toast, tea or coffee and a huge plate of fresh fruit. They also do superb dinners to order with one of the best salads I have ever had. The swimming pool and its surroundings were also very beautiful. One final thing, the staff, especially the manageress Lisa, were more than helpful and to be highly commended.
.
Lovely rooms, comfy beds and a great place to just relax and enjoy the view. Breakfasts were great and we chose to eat dinner and the food was delicious.
The only issue is that it's far from the actual town of Tangalle but it's still close to Silent and Goyambokka beaches
The location of this hotel is simply breathtaking. Waking up with the sound of the waves and watching the sun going up is a perfect way to start your day. Cars and Tuk tuks are able to reach this hotel, but the last part of the road is not so comfortable as the road is not paved. The room was spacious. It is not the most modern one, but everything was very clean. 2 best beaches are in walking distance, just as restaurants and bars. The staff was very friendly and we fell very welcome. It was a little paradise.
view from balcony, breakfast was good and in a quiet location. Some great beaches and resturants within 15 minute walk or tuktuk ride
More guest house than hotel. No atmosphere if you chose to eat at the hotel which offered a choice of two dishes each night. At the end of an unmade road. You need a torch after dark and need taxi or tuktuk to go to shops.
Perfection in everyway. An elegant property with warm professional hosts. With a pool overlooking breath taking views of the ocean, all set in tranquil garden this is the perfect place to relax and recharge. And if you venture out the picture perfect silent beach a 10 minute walk. Thankyou for the sea view upgrade. We appreciated every minute of our stay with you. We will definitely reccomend your beautiful villa and will when we come back to Sri Lanka this is the first accomadation we will book.
The balcony area is lovely and we could see the sun rising over the ocean. The soporific sound of the waves is so relaxing! Amazing, generous breakfasts.
The early 1000 checkout..
Everything about Villa Lucky Star was perfectly adequate. It was quiet, the pool was good to have and there were lots of nice places to sit in the garden.
It is on a headland but there is no way to access the beach from the hotel. Once outside the hotel it is only a 3 or 4 minute walk to Goyambokka beach. The town of Tangalle is about 2km away. (not that Tangalle is very exciting!) Hard to put a finger on why we didn't love this place but it felt tired. Thin towels, chipped tiles in the pool, no filtered water available in rooms. Everything was adequate, nothing was brilliant.
Our stay was wonderful! Its very calm and nice villa with the best view situated perfectly between two most pretiest beaches in Sri lanka. It has a nice slow vibe, the rooms are big and clean and the breakfast and dinners are amazing! We also likeed the nice and kind stuff and very nice garden with a pool!
We stayed at Villa Lucky Star for just two night and we would have stayed longer if we could have. To find this hidden gem (no indication/sign outside), just trust google maps or follow the direction/description of Lisa, the general manager. Also Ursula, the owner, is such a lovely person. There are two most beautiful beaches (Silent Beach and Goyambokka Beach) in walking distance from the villa. You get beach towels from the villa. On the beaches sun beds were offered for free if you buy a drink or eat something. On Goyambokka beach we especially liked the Yellow Mellow bar. Beside the mentioned beaches you can also enjoy the villa’s fantastic garden with sun beds facing the ocean and the pool. You also should have dinner at least once at the villa. Thisara, the cook, offers every night two options of dishes, that have been always very yummy. To mention last but not least, is the breakfast in one of the villa’s Cabanas - just amazing (the breakfast and the view). Our room was very clean, lovely decorated with a super-nice balcony with seating area and sea view. So, if you want to visit Tangalle, don’t hesitate to stay at Villa Lucky Star. We will definitely come back.
No complaints at all!
Lucky Star Villa is a wonderful place on a cliff with picturesque beaches around. The owner Lisa is very friendly, she helps to solve all the issues and it is very pleasant to communicate with her. The villa's chef prepares gourmet dishes and deserves 10 out of 10.
Nice staff, great location with amazing view over the sea, nice place to have meals with sea view
No direct access to beach only through a dirty and muddy road Old building and rooms but all basic is here and great value for money
The location is stunning, rooms are spacious , multiple outdoor areas to enjoy and a pool
Nothing
The views were amazing, the staff were polite, the pool was clean and warm and the grounds were well maintained.
Nothing
Beautiful location with amazing views, we had the place to ourselves and the staff were very helpful with whatever we needed. It was quiet at night and we booked the suite on the roof top which was great for late night drinks and cards under the stars. Excellent choice of beaches within walking distance and the evening meals were simple yet delicious. We couldn’t have asked for more.
Ursula, German owner was great 70+ lady! Beautiful cliff-location, views & noise of the waves Building is great Super pool&garden Good cooking
Bit remote, bad road to entry Albeit old/outdated furniture, very clean No AC We liked but some may not appreciate presence of some 6 dogs
The staff was super friendly and the stunning ocean view was usually only available in 5 star exclusive hotels. The location of the hotel is close to two beautiful beaches. Due to the monsoon influence, it was not suitable to swim in the sea. Enjoying the view in the hammock at the hotel was my favorite time of the stay. The room was spacious and comfortable, the breakfast was great, we enjoyed our stay very much.
The place was stunningly beautiful. It is perched atop a bluff overlooking the ocean. The rooms balcony gave us privacy with a perfect view of the sunrise. The bed was comfortable and even though it is hot out we felt the fan gave us plenty of breeze to sleep comfortably. Lisa, the manager and her entire staff were kind and accommodating. The saltwater pool was so relaxing with the perfect temperature of water. The hammocks and lounge chairs were comfortable. The food was delicious, although not as spicy as most Sri Lankan food. Even the morning coffee was plentiful and delicious. There are two beaches within walking distance. One is very close and the other a bit farther. Even with rough waves we were able to swim at one. And all of this with the sounds of the ocean breaking on the rocks.
I wish there was an option for spicy food.
It's located at what could be considered a sea cliff which gives you magnificent views. At the same time you can reach too great beaches easily and within a ten minutes walk. Loved the terrace, too!

When you want to stay around Tangalle to visit the beautiful Goyambokka beach (8 min walk) and Silent beach (15 min walk) this Villa is situated in the best location! It can get really hot and humid in Tangalle, but since the Villa Lucky Star is situated on top of a rock the wind is always blowing and this makes staying here very comfortable. No problems with flies and mosquitos as a bonus. The rooms of the villa are classic and of good size. The room was cleaned daily. The bed was super comfy with a good working ceiling fan and light musquito net. It is great falling asleep and waking up with the sound of breaking waves. The saltwater pool was big and had a nice temperature. The pool was in great condition and cleaned every day. Next to the pool is a little grass area with some hammocks and sun beds overlooking the Indian Ocean.
Despite the romantic setting of the villa, there were some personal downsides. The breakfast offered is included but very basic and not diverse, different from what we experienced in the rest of Sri Lanka. Other breakfast options are, however, offered at additional cost (a.o.pancakes, extra egg, fruit juice). This felt a little cheap. Another example that put us off is that a simple bottle of water cost twice as much as in a local shop. This did not felt very welcomming. It would have been more friendly and sustainable if a water dispencer was in place. Dinner offered was only non-spicy "sri lankan" or simple "western" food. Great if you don't like spicy food, otherwise eat out in one of the nearby local restaurants. If you book a room in this Villa, expect European hospitality.
Fantastic views; garden; balcony; pool; food; management
Great friendly villa, very clean and lovely pool. Short walk to the beach. Staff couldnt be more helpful
What a fantastic stay we had! Our room was spacious and cleaned quickly and efficiently each morning. The breakfast outside in the cabana with the wind blowing was superb! Our room had an outdoor daybed, hammock, bathtub, shower, toilet, table etc and we used it all each day. We also asked if we could rent a scooter and they had it brought to the villa for a very fair price. The grounds and pool all were just wonderful. The location is perfect nestled between two fantastic beaches that are just a few minutes walk away. Lisa who manages the villa is extremely personable and helpful and the other staff were very pleasant as well. I had a fever one night and Lisa brought me tea and checked my wellbeing a few times. All around great stay! I’d highly recommend Lucky Star!
Amazing view
Careful warning, need to watch out at nearby the beaches.
Great hotel on the coast, set inbetween 2 lovely beaches. The first night we stayed for dinner and that was fantastic. I had the Sri Lankan curry option and my partner the roast chicken, both were delicious. So much so that we wanted to eat there the following night, but at breakfast the waiter told us there was no cook that day and there was only one dinner option which was chicken fried rice, so we were disappointed, but decided to decline and eat somewhere else. However, on arriving back that night we could see people eating and after asking the manager Lisa, the cook was working, so we could have eaten there after all. This was a bit annoying as my partner was not that well after having an accident a few days earlier. Additionally, the waiting staff were pushing us the first night to have dinner at 6.30pm, which is very early. They obviously wanted to finish early. We ended up agreeing on 7pm, but really we wanted to eat around 7.30/8pm. The food is very good though. There is a very nice saltwater pool and the garden is lovely. The view is amazing and the verandah of our room was perfect. There was a sofa, kettle and candles and you can hear the waves all day and night long. It is a very beautiful, relaxing place, but needs a bit of investment.
When we arrived with our driver( who was the nicest guy you could meet) he was told by the hotel staff he couldn't use the toilet, and much to our horror had to pee in the back yard. When we informed him of our hotel choice enroute, he already knew of the place as he had dropped guests there before and had not had a warm feeling. Lisa also referred to him in a derogatory way. We were embarassed as he was so kind and had been with us for 2.5 weeks. It was a pity. Lastly, this hotel needs air conditioning. It was absolutely boiling at night in the room. There is a fan over the bed, but the mosqito net is too thick, so no air comes through. At the very least, the mosquito nets need to be changed. The current ones also don't reach the ground. It was beginning of April, so maybe other times of the year are a bit cooler, but it was almost impossible to sleep. We also spoke to another couple at breakfast and they also couldn't sleep. I understand it is very expensive, but then the windows should be altered, so they can open properly and then a breeze comes in. This hotel could be absolutely amazing if some money was invested in it.
Beautifull location and clean room! Staff was friendly.
Food was nice, but bit expensive. Hotel is good, but we missed the Sri Lankan touch to it (was a bit western orientated we think).
I had a lovely peaceful stay here. The staff are very kind. Breakfast was good. Dinner was very good and i ate in at the Villa every night. I enjoyed spending time on the room balcony and in the garden by the pool. The sea breeze was lovely.
After a month traveling in north & central Sri Lanka we headed to the beach. Villa Lucky Star was the perfect guesthouse for us. It is not a fancy place; there is nothing fussy, coldly upscale, or overdone about it. It is just the perfect place for an easy-going beach holiday. Our room (#8) was on the 2nd floor. It was simple, clean, & pleasant, with a large comfortable bed, a cooling cement floor, a long rack for hanging clothing, a table & 2 chairs, 2 bedside tables, a ceiling fan, and best of all, a balcony with the most tranquil, beautiful view over lush gardens, swaying palm trees, a rocky outcrop, gorgeous sea, and a pretty pool. Honestly, it was a movie-perfect view. On the balcony were chairs, table & a cushioned bench. The bed had a net but we didn’t use it as the breeze kept the mosquitoes away. We kept the balcony door open & screen door locked at night. Falling asleep to the sound of the waves & waking to the distant call of peacocks: Nothing could have been more perfect. The shower had plenty of hot water & the shower lip & curtain kept the rest of the bathroom from getting wet. The salt-water pool was refreshing & great to laze about in the late afternoon. VLS is located between 2 beaches: Goyambokka Beach is an easy walk & is a wide, lovely beach with a few simple restaurants for cold drinks. Silent Beach is also beautiful but longer to walk to. Eat on the patio or in a covered pavilion looking out over the sea. Excellent food. Breakfast included a pot of tea or coffee, yogurt w/honey & cereal sprinkles, juice, eggs, toast, & a pretty fruit platter. We highly recommend the Prawns in Coconut (comes with 5 or 6 small dishes) for dinner. Refrigerator & honor system for cold drinks at night. The manager, Lisa, & her team (especially Tisolet) were absolutely The Best: thoughtful, kind, & helpful. Villa Lucky Star is for people who want a lovely, calm, relaxing place to stay.
We loved staying at Villa Lucky Star, and if (when!) we get back to Tangalle we will happily stay there again. The only improvement I can think of would be having a screen in one of the 2 large windows in the room we had. You could then leave the window open at night to let in even more of that lovely sea-breeze.
An amazing hotel in the most beautiful area. Absolutely magical. The staff were incredibly kind .
road not adopted..But tuk tuk’s can pick you up and take you to the most wonderful beaches close to the property.
The service from Lisa and staff. Location is fabulous with awesome beaches within a short walk. We’d planned to eat out at the nearby restaurants and bars but found ourselves eating in for all 5 nights and enjoying our own (6) company and the grounds of this small hotel.
Nothing. Be aware it’s at end of a rough lane with no AC. But I had 5 of the best nights sleep on our 3 week tour and the sound of the waves is a beautiful soundtrack to lull you to sleep.
Lucky Star is a little paradise to relax. Built at the cliff you have a beautiful view. If you want to have romantic, here you can get it, as well as good food. To silent beach it’s a 20 minutes walk, of course you can also take a Tuktuk or experience some other beaches. We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend Villa Lucky. Ursula, Lisa and her nice team will make you lucky.
:)
the personal was most helpfull, room and pool always clean ,
nothing to say.
We spent four relaxing days at Villa Lucky Star. The resort is peaceful and well kept. We had a beautiful room on the first floor with a large balcony overlooking the lush garden, the salt water pool and ocean. The room was cleaned daily. Although there were other guests we felt like we had the place to ourselves. Loved breakfast which was just perfect, fresh fruit, egg, toast, jams and coffee. All the staff are very attentive and they served us an earlier breakfast on our last day as we had to leave early. From the garden it's a 10 min walk to Silent beach. This is a really cool walk on the rocks looking at the waves splashing over. Otherwise you can walk the other direction to Goyambokka beach. Great value for money!
Great Location. Great Villa with spacious rooms. super breafast with Good Toast and coffee. nice hosts
nothing
Lisa is a very nice person, as the people who work here. The place is peaceful, and the view front the océan is just amazing. And i like to ear the sound of waves and of geckos all the days and night. Thanks a lot.
The dishes are correct, it's not wonderful but very correct. The little insects a night....maybe ants but don't worry the bedroom and bathroom are clean! And Lisa is very to listen.
nice, convenient apartment with nice wiew from the balcony, very warm welcome, good kitchen, helpful and kind staff
appr. 10 min from the beach in a very rural setting, you need a torch for going home in the night
