The breakfast was lovely and the service good

There’s no lounge, the only settees were 1 in the entrance hall and 1 on the first floor landing.

The house is simply amazing and it's decorated with care and taste; the staff is not only efficient but also warm and friendly; and tea time is just great ;)!

Small things really but on arrival asked for WiFi and girl wasn’t even sure they had WiFi and had no idea re password. I prefer to drink bottled water but no bottle in room . Found it odd that getting from lunch/ breakfast area to reception/front bar area one had to pass through kitchen area down a back corridor 🤷‍♂️. No lift and as was allocated a room on top floor was a struggle. Also room had no walk in shower only bath with shower in .

I booked on behalf of a colleague, who said "nice room, good choice". She said it was in a good location and she liked the high ceilings and the period charm of the building.

Mooi oud historisch hotel

Beautiful building with fabulous conservatory- with real and very old grape vines. Staff really friendly and helpful, went out of their way to make our stay comfortable.

The window in our room would not open and it was quite a warm night.

I really like this hotel. It is very traditional and a bit dated but has that charm to it. The staff are excellent. I have stayed here a few times before but had never eaten here before. We had a superb meal the night we arrived that surpassed expectations and was good value for money.

We always stay here when we visit the boarders. Hotel is quiet, clean, has beautiful gardens and the rooms are spotless. Food is excellent too. Staff are exceptional, always helpful and friendly.

Kdo ma rad stare domy s pribehem a zajimavou architekturou jako my, urcite by se tu mel ubytovat. Byli jsme v rodinnem apartma, ktere je nadherne. Personal je moc mily a profesionalni, skvele snidane, krasna zahrada, poloha vyhodna pro radu krasnych vyletu (Abbotsford, Melrose...)

A beautiful hotel. We had a really lovely room. The breakfast was very good . The staff all professional and courteous.

Comfortable room in a lovely hotel in a fine old building. Very spacious with a good restaurant and welcoming bar. Plenty of parking. Good location for access to Galashields and the Borders.

Difficult in a building of this age and type but there is no lift.

Not much not to like but if one improvement with our suite I would say to change out the tub chairs for a compact sofa and the large table for a smaller one. We absolutely loved staying there though and would recommend it.

The hotel is a lovely traditional building in pretty grounds. An upgrade to our room was much appreciated.The bedroom was spacious and comfortable.

Room was large with nice furnishings, bed was very comfy. Staff were polite. Food was good at breakfast and dinner.

The building itself feels like a private castle and is well maintained with lovely grass area and beautiful large conservatory with grapes growing. Breakfast was filling with plenty of options. The room on the top floor had great views across to the hills and was very quiet and peaceful.

The shower in a bath is a bit awkward to access and a bit slippery. The location is remote although there is a large car park and a bus service runs every 30mins. I would have scored 9 if it had not been so expensive. I guess that the price covers the high cost of maintaining a large castle.

The weather was very hot, which I know is out of control by the hotel, it would have been nice to have fans or something in the rooms to move the air around a bit more.

It's a beautiful old building, with its own story to tell. The inside and the outside were a bit like a fairytale castle. Staff are extremely pleasant and helpful too.

It was very warm! Not their fault in a heatwave! 😁

The breakfast choice was good and the food. The hotel is next door to Abbotsford House and the views are of woodland apart from Abbots ford chimneys and bits of roof.

Very friendly staff, understanding about the delays on our journey. The hotel has lots of architectural features which are interesting to look around but also a very practical set up with sofas, ironing facilities and reading materials in lounging areas. My parents were upgraded to the most massive room with a turret and lots of original features, which was really intriguing and very comfortable. I had a very comfortable room myself and had a great shower. Both rooms had great views. It would have been nice to stay longer but we just had a stop off in the middle of a long journey.

An exceptional hotel. So much history with a number of original features which are a pleasure to see. Rooms were nice and big, everything you would need for a comfortable stay. Whilst clearly an older property, it was very modern in its approach. The hotel restaurant was great. Lovely food, reasonably priced and great service. Breakfast was great, well presented and prepared beautifully. Would highly recommend this hotel. Thank you so much for a lovely stay.

Lovely grounds, good restaurant & cocktail bar, proximity to River Tweed, Abbotsford and Gala. They upgraded 2 of our rooms without being asked. 🙂

Beautiful conservatory but only used for functions so couldn’t just sit & have coffee in it. Otherwise - nothing negative.

The staff were fantastic - all of them! The fact that the owner served tea and coffee says a huge amount about how the hotel is run.

Friendly staff, very attentive, lovely room and excellent full breakfast. It was my birthday weekend and we were given Room 21 which had exceptional views!

Our room could have done with a mirror for the dressing table. My partner is short and couldn't see in the mirror on the wall.

Personeel, bediening, voorzieningen, diner, ontbijt en de bar: allemaal goed. Heerlijk verblijf met leuk en zorgzaam personeel. Klassiekers voor de deur geparkeerd, wat wil je nog meer!

De verwarmingskranen stonden allemaal op 5. Maar dat konden we gelukkig zelf oplossen.

Our room was fantastic, the staff were fantastic, breakfast just amazing. (And dinner pretty good as well) The bar is cosy and welcoming. I cannot fault this hotel and highly recommend it.

Fabulous view over the Tweed to the south. Historic building. Very quiet. Lovely spacious suite with decor and furniture in keeping with the building and yet extremely comfortable, superb comfy bed- thank you for the upgrade. Everything provided and also placed exactly where you need it - toiletries, hairdryer, towels, plugs, kettle etc. Kind, informative staff. Great food at dinner and breakfast.

Het personeel was enorm vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Prachtig gebouw, ruime kamer en het ontbijt was smaakvol.

The location, ample parking, food was good.

There was poor staff visibility. It was very late in the evening when I discovered there was no hot water. When I reported it it first thing in the morning I was informed that they were aware of it and were awaiting a plumber! I was not offered another room but given a key to use the shower in a room close by. Very inconvenient! On check out there was a grudging apology but no offer of compensation. I would also point out that we used the hotel for a family celebration and despite this the staff showed no real interest.

Breakfast was very good and substantial! Really prompt service.

Hotel is a short walk from the nearest bus stop and could benefit from improved signage.
