Ocean View Hotel

Excellent restaurant. Lots of variety and great portions. Our room was upgraded without question as for some reason we were in an accessible room which wasn't needed. Even with tour buses arriving during our stay it didn't impact us in any way. Great location to get to other places in or near Gros Morne.

The front desk was very efficient finding alternate accommodation as booking.com overbooked the location.

Wish I could have stayed there. It looked very nice and the staff were friendly and pleasant.

Great entertainment. Also liked that we could purchase wraps and yogurt onsite to pack with us for hiking.

We had garden view - not nice view but didn’t spend much time except for sleeping so didn’t matter. Carpet in room is a bit old. Front desk very friendly and helpful.

We didn't get to stay here despite having received conformation and paying in full three months in advance. My Mom (who is 75 years old) booked two rooms for my husband and I, and herself, to stay one night on our way to L'ans aux Meadow. One day before our stay we were informed that our rooms were not available. They confirmed our bookings but could not accommodate. In this part of Newfoundland it is virtually impossible to find a last minute place to stay. We literally faced sleeping in the car. Totally unacceptable.

Beautiful hotel and staff. Manager and staff were more than accommodating and friendly. Our room was an ocean view room . The view from our front patio was spectacular. We were within walking distance to restaurants, shops and ice cream shops!

Location right across the street from the waterfront is spectacular. Facilities are clean, nicely laid out and perfect for families, tour groups or individuals. access to a nearby pool, which I didnt use. Large restaurant onsite with windows facing the water and a pub with live music a patio below it.

"ocean view" room was on the lower level, facing the parking lot, like a motel room, with a patio door at the foot of the bed looking at parked cars and people walking by. The receptionist kindly moved me to a second floor room facing the "garden" which is another parking lot, but has a field and mountains in the background, and at least no one looking in the window. At this price, I would have expected breakfast to be included, but it is not.

Check in was fast and easy. No breakfast but has restaurant. Had dinner in the pub and breakfast in the dining room. Good, friendly service. Food was very good. Was in the suite that overlooked the bay. Room was clean. Internet was open to the public which made it very choppy and that is the only reason for the 4 vs 5. Bus tours stay here.

C'était très bien. On a eu beaucoup de plaisir au pub où on a assisté à un « Kitchen Party » mémorable. Par contre, la vue sur le stationnement enlève énormément de charme à l'endroit. Les chambres avec vue sur la mer sont certainement beaucoup mieux.

Personnelle très gentil et attentionné. Literie et lit confortable. Très propre, beau balcon avec belle chaise Adirondak donnant sur la mer. Nous avons aussi apprécié le restaurant Bistro et sa magnifique terrasse extérieur. Il y a aussi un espace où nous pouvons avoir de l’eau fraîche pour remplir nos bouteilles très bien aménagé ainsi que de l’eau pétillante. À notre disposition à cette endroit des pots à eau à remplir si nous n’avons pas nos bouteilles. Ce soucis de l’environnement est très bien donc ça évite les bouteilles plastique jetable. Endroit très bien situé en face du bordwalk de la baie de Rocky Harbour. Il y a aussi plein de restaurant et café accessible à pied.

Reception staff was very informing. During our first evening, excellent service in the dinner room Clean rooms. Easy access.

Unfortunately, our experience was dominated by the bar personnel. I could not ask for a beer, after a long drive, around 18.30 h as a the space was booked for a bus group at 19.00. Staying at the hotel, made the difference after 10 minutes asking. And, of couse we left before the bus load was arriving. The second day, the bar staff was already asking to settle the bill from our table and others, while we still wanted to order some food. Also we were not near closing time or a change of staff.

Our tour group stopped here for a pre-arranged lunch which consisted of ½ of a croissant sandwich of ham & cheese and ½ of chicken, tomato soup and 2 tarts made with baked apple berry (cloud berry) and partridge berry. Everything was delicious, especially the tarts as it was my 1st time trying baked apple berry and partridge berry. Our big group was served quickly by friendly staff.

We stay at the Oceanview Hotel and it was great. Nice clean rooms and lots of space. We also ate at the Anchor Pub (attached to the hotel) and their food was great. They also had entertainment last night. Stay here you won't be sorry!

We stayed at the Ocean View Hotel in Rocky Harbour for four nights after driving from St. Anthony. After moving around so much during our three-week Newfoundland road trip, it was wonderful to stay somewhere for a little longer and properly relax. On arrival, we were delighted to discover that our UK tour operator (Trailfinders) had booked us into a suite. It was far more spacious than we expected, with a sofa, comfortable chairs, a large TV, a microwave and a small fridge. It was lovely to have somewhere to unwind after busy days exploring. The bed deserves a special mention—it was incredibly comfortable, like sleeping on a giant marshmallow! Rocky Harbour is an excellent base for exploring Gros Morne National Park. One of the highlights of our stay was the Bonne Bay boat tour on a beautiful sunny morning. The boat wasn't overcrowded, the commentary was informative and entertaining, and there was even a small band downstairs playing traditional-style sea shanties, which added to the atmosphere. We would highly recommend this trip. Afterwards we visited the Bonne Bay Marine Station Aquarium, where an enthusiastic research student shared her knowledge with genuine passion, making it a fascinating visit. We also enjoyed several meals during our stay. Fisherman's Landing Restaurant and Buoy & Arrow are both just across the road from the hotel, while Java Jack's is only a short walk away. Our favourite was Buoy & Arrow, where we returned for both lunch and dinner. Another must-do is the Western Brook Pond boat tour. Be aware that there is quite a long walk from the car park to the boat, and we encountered plenty of flies near the harbour. The scenery on the cruise is absolutely spectacular and reminded us very much of Milford Sound in New Zealand. However, the boat itself felt rather crowded, which detracted slightly from the experience. Although the guides were friendly and entertaining, we felt the commentary on the Bonne Bay cruise was more engaging. We'd also recommend driving to Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse. The exhibits were interesting, and they apparently have live music on some afternoons, which other travellers had told us about. Before travelling, we'd booked tickets for the Anchors Aweigh dinner show. As there were just two of us, we shared a table with another couple, as the venue gets very busy. Our meal arrived just as the performance began. The show itself wasn't quite what we'd expected, featuring more classic rock covers than traditional Newfoundland folk music. It was a much less authentic experience than we'd been hoping for, and we wouldn't return. We would recommend the guided walk at the Tablelands (starting from the Woody Point end), which we thoroughly enjoyed, and a visit to the Discovery Centre. We also spent some time exploring Woody Point before stopping at Southeast Brook Falls on the drive back to the hotel. We didn't eat in the hotel's own restaurant during our stay, apart from at the Anchors Aweigh show, so can't specifically comment on it. We did find the staff in the Anchors Aweigh pub a little abrupt, which put us off returning. Overall, we had a good stay. The Ocean View Hotel was a comfortable, spacious base for exploring Gros Morne National Park, and we'd happily stay here again. And if for no other reason, we'd return for that wonderfully comfortable "marshmallow" bed!

If you are travelling to tour around Gros Morne, the location is great. The view is amazing and the Anchor Pub is convenient and delicious!

The staff we encountered (front desk) were not very friendly. In fact upon checking in, we considered going elsewhere. We paid a significant amount for a 2 night stay and expected to be welcomed and treated better than what we experienced. Check in and check out was a cold experience.

Was not impressed with the “Kitchen Party” Just some guy doing karaoke and telling bad jokes…we walked out after three songs.

This place was fantastic! Staff…outstanding! Everything was soooo clean and up to date and the place was quiet! The view and sunsets were exceptional! To be frank….we can’t say enough good things about this place! The pub food and staff were super. However… We did eat in the dining room but weren’t too impressed…..food was barely warm and fair to middlin…. And we expected better

Nous devions avoir une chambre avec balcon et ce ne fut pas le cas. Ils nous donnent une chambre en nous disant que nous aurons une Océan view .Nous avions vue sur la rue et dans le parking. De plus ils ne trouvaient pas notre réservation et ont eu beaucoup de difficulté avec notre carte de crédit .soi disant leur changement de système!!!! Personnel qui se doutait de ce que nous devions avoir ,l’important étant les revenus c’est tout 2 jours de réservation

Book a room at the Ocean View hotel in Rocky Harbour and they CANCELLED 3 hours before check in. I called 17 times, all their numbers and different links and never got a person or explanation. What an miserable thing to do to a person and not have the business sense to do it directly, instead sent an email. Thank goodness for Shallow Bay motel in Cow Head at 1-800-563-1946 or I would have been sleeping in my car.

Very disappointing stay -we were celebrating our anniversary and decided to stay at what we thought was a lovely hotel. We were given a room that the staff uses when they need a place to stay. There were big brown stains on the ceiling, the carpet was filthy !The fan in the bathroom was extremely loud and came on whenever the bathroom light was on. We were informed that ocean view rooms were not available for Expedia clients, even though we had requested this. People at the front desk told us they were not allowed to move us because we booked with Hotels.com which is now owned by Expedia. The restaurant was very expensive and we had to find alternative places to eat and enjoy entertainment. Lots of people were staying with bus tours and many were complaining about the rooms being very cold and uncomfortable. A very disappointing way to start our Visit to beautiful NFLD

Nice location along the waterfront. We had good dinner and breakfast at the second floor restaurant. We were just staying overnight, but there didn't seem like much to do in the town, but we were offseason. Room was good, bed comfortable.

Very Beautiful Place for stay ❤️

Lovely view from room - very clean. Fireplace was electric not a gas fireplace - ie: no flame! Laminate floors would have been preferred to plush carpeting from a sanitary perspective. Ate dinner on 2nd floor the first night of our arrival -place was very bright and clean, but food was subpar unfortunately. Fish seafood chowder was watery- ceasar salad was brown on edges and had been previously refridgerated causing croutons to be soggy/chewy -waitress replaced it but no apology. Buns on table were warm & served with whipped butter which was appreciated :) We unknowingly stayed past closing tiime (9pm) and it was nice of them to allow us to finish our meal. Lovely view of sunsets with rooms facing the water. Exterior of hotel is lovely and freshly painted but interior is a little tired/dated.

We made a special point of going to the Kitchen Party at the Ocean View Hotel because we wanted to experience an authentic Newfoundland Kitchen Party. We were very disappointed. Only one gentleman was involved in trying to get tourists to preform. He played music from many regions in Canada and sang songs of Canadian musicians. My expectation was that there would be many people from the area singing and playing together or by themselves and that tourists could join in but not preforming like a Karaoke night. Yes the Ugly Sticks and shakers came out but a definite lack of Newfoundland and Celtic music. The bar itself had a nice ambiance but the tables are so small pub food barely fit. The waitress brought drinks when we arrived and never returned during our 3 1/2 hour stay. The musician took our dirty dishes away. Very disappointed.

The views were amazing, the room was lovely, the beds were comfortable and the staff was fantastic! They were very helpful in assisting us with finding things to do in the area! We attended the Story Teller event in the Pub and had a great time. It was a lovely stay! We will be back!

Our room was very clean and larger than expected. The staff are amazing and quickly respond to needs that need to be met. The in room dinners arrived hot and delicious. I would recommend this hotel if you’re visiting Gros Morne. Rocky Harbor is perfect.

Stayed in annex bldg king room - very nice, clean and spacious. Being not attached to main hotel it was more quiet. Dining excellent. Good pub. Not much in Rocky Harbour but good location to access Gros Morne activities

We stayed here for two back to back nights -- our first night was a "garden view" meaning not facing the water however we were pleasantly surprised as it in fact opens onto quite a nice patio area.The room was clean and spacious as well. We asked for a harbour view for second night and had a great view of the water on the second floor with a balcony where we sipped wine and watched the sunset. Again the room was clean and spacious. Reception check in both times was warm and friendly and very accommodating to our requests. We ate in the bar our second night -- food was OK typical pub food but we had really come for the Kitchen Party which was very entertaining and a lot of fun.This happened often throughout the tourist season so worth the $15 cash fee. Recommend asking for a second floor harbour view when reserving although the first floor rooms also overlook the harbour (and the parking lot) Well worth a stay

Beautiful views! The pub and restaurant on site were both delicious- one of the best fish and chips we had in Newfoundland was at the Anchor Pub!

The restaurant manager treated us like she was doing us a HUGE favour by allowing us to book a table, and then taking us to our table when we showed up for our reservation. She kept telling us about this BIG group that she was expecting. 90 mins after we sat down, the group who showed up appeared to be six people.
