Slapen in tent is leuk.
Molto caldo all’interno della stanza
The location was quiet and serene. The staff were super, kind and helpful.
There are only tents, no rooms. Nirvaan had listed a "double room with balcony" on Booking.com. We paid for this 'room' which was turned out to be a tent. At the same time I had booked a tent for my friends which was 25% cheaper than our "room". No amount of discussion would convince the owner that a room is not the same thing as a tent and that we shouldn't be paying 25% more than our friends who were staying in an identical tent. It's lovely place but make sure of what you are booking.
Very cool tents, great location to stay if you're visiting Wilpattu
The safari guide they arranged arrived quite late and seemed a bit disinterested at times during our safari
Loved the Location. Very comfortable tented rooms with spacious bathroom. Lots of birds, great for birdwatchers. Ranil, the owner was an excellent guide
Chan, a guide used for night drive was not good at all.
Very nice and helpful staff. Nice and quit location
Had a lovely welcome hot flannel and a cool drink whilst we checked in which was lovely and was really needed after a long journey. Loved that we were in a remote location . Loved the dark skies and the noise of the jungle too. Staff were lovely and we were very well looked after. The family were very keen to please us. It was a bit chilly at night so a blanket supplied would be good. I did not ask for one but I am sure it would have been supplied had I done so ,probably should have as family are very approachable. It was a very different experience which our party enjoyed. Our accomodation was comfy with small outdoor seating. We had drinks in watchtower one night which was cool. Our safari was arranged for us before we arrived and our driver and naturalist were excellant and gave us a great safari experience.
Aanrader!
We had a great stay at Nirvaan Lodge! The lodges were very clean and beautifully designed, with lovely half-outdoor bathrooms that made the experience feel special. The hosts were incredibly kind and welcoming — we immediately felt at home. Dinner and breakfast were very good, too. Our host even gave us a tour around the area and was also our safari guide, which made the whole experience even more personal. He also helped us with planning the next steps of our journey. All in all, a wonderful stay that we would definitely recommend!
The view at the stay was amazing. The host was really kind and good conpany
We voelden ons heel erg welkom.
Niente
Prachtige locatie, uitkijktoren, vriendelijke mensen
Geweldige ligging! Vriendelijke en behulpzame medewerkers.

Excellent staff and service
Well equipped tent, with comfortable beds and although no air con there was a large fan. We loved listening to the sounds of the wild animals birds and insects outside the tent. The hotel area is fenced off from the forest by an electric fence so no fear of animals straying into the tent at night. The staff were very responsive to questions before we arrived and helped us in organising the safari and our onward travel.
Great location on the paddyfields very close to Wilpattu NP entrance. There's a lake close by which you can take a quiet walk to. The guide at the property offered to walk with us to fo some bird watching. We did 2 days safari from here and the staff also arranged a bespoke day for us to go to Kalpitiya and fo dolphin watching and snorkeling. Or children loved the pet dogs too, who walk with us each time to the lake! We chose this place because the owner/ guides are research scientists for the sloth bears in the park. The guide was able to answer all our questions. We saw leopards and bear in the park amongst lots of others.
The tent was very hot, despite the fan, but I suppose that's the nature of the experience.
Super comfy beds, and such a lovely set up. We really enjoyed our stay, the setting is incredibly peaceful and the safari organised by the owner, Roger the guide and his partner were incredible. Wilpattu National Park is a few minutes drive from the property. The staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a taxi pretty last minute on the Sunday to get to the airport
Nothing we didn’t like! It would be nice to know if the dogs that relax in the tower could be seen to for mange.
Good food and well organised safari!
Small room for 4 people!
Good place for 1 night (maybe 2 also). Breakfast was fine
only cold water. No A/C but I guess would be complicated in such lodge
One of the most unique stays of our trip! You sleep in a tent-like accommodation surrounded by jungle and rice fields, truly immersing yourself in nature and wildlife. The food is delicious, and the staff is very friendly. They organized a full-day safari for us, including breakfast and a packed lunch for in the Wilpattu National Park. We had an amazing experience and two fantastic days!
At night, we suddenly had a snake on our veranda, and you'll hear birds and animals all night long. We loved this experience, but you should be prepared for it.
The lodge is located a bit off the road. But when arriving it is very nice and well maintained. The hostess was very kind and made sure everything was fine. The room was primitive but we knew that beforehand. The only thing was that there was no warm water for showering. The reason why we booked here was for the great safari reviews. We did a half day safari in the morning with a driver and naturalist. I think it is a major advantage to have both a driver and naturalist so they can both keep an eye open to spot animals. Also, the naturalist was a former guard in the national park knowing a lot of the park and the animals. Therefore the safari was not only good for the eye but also leaned a lot. We were very lucky to see a sloth bear as well as a leopard, besides a lot of herds, iguanas and birds. No elephants unfortunately, but that was not our main goal since they can be spotted a lot here in Sri Lanka...
Perfect location for a Wilpattu safari. Highly recommend to book it with the naturalist Zion, a former park ranger. We spotted 6 leopards in one safari day! Food was amazing even the one they gave for the safari day The tent is basic but comfy. Bring some earplugs agains the jungle noise.
No Wi-Fi and no warm water.
Organised an incredible safari for us with a delicious breakfast and lunch provided for. The accommodation was very comfortable and the food was excellent. Location was great.
More expensive than other places we stayed in Sri Lanka for similar facilities.
This is a hidden gem near the willpattu park. You are located in the middle of a nice field and jungle around you. The staff is super friendly and the owner took us one evening with a jeep to his farm where we had dinner under the stars, recommend to do this! Maybe you spot some elephants! Was amazing! You can also book the park tour with this location.
The road to the location is difficult to reach google maps, but the location can help with this to explain
We loved the beautiful location & friendly staff. The Sri Lankan breakfast was good with more than we could eat. Our safari tent was basic but comfortable and the outdoor bathroom was great! The highlight of our stay was the Wilpattu safari with Rani and Malinda who went to great effort to show us as many beautiful birds & animals as they could. Highly recommended.
Nothing of any significance.
The location was super! Friendly staff and nice clean tent with beautiful view when showering
Nirvaan is a wonderful lodge in the middle of nature and very close to Wilpattu national park. We were lucky to be around when Ranil, the owner, was there. Ranil is a respected conservation biologist and a wealth of knowledge about flora and fauna in Wilpattu and in Sri Lanka at large. He arranges safaris with good naturalists and drivers. His trips may be a bit more costly than what other providers will offer you, but you get a better jeep where you can interact with the guide and driver while you drive. We saw lots of wildlife even though we did not see the big ones- elephants and leopards. Ranil runs an organisation that aims to protect wildlife in cooperation with local people. He was so kind to take us to see one of the projects nearby. We admire the work he does. We highly recommend this lodge.
We couldn’t fault Nirvaan Safari Lodge and had a fantastic 2 night stay. The food was amazing, all cooked to order with delicious vegetable, chicken and fish curries. The setting is idyllic away quite far from the road next to a paddy field. Lots of birds and insects to see. The biodiversity meant there weren’t many mosquitos too! The tents have everything you need. They aren’t big but they are comfortable with a spacious bathroom attached and a nice balcony to sit at. Ranil and his team really looked after us and their service is great. Our safari to Wilpattu was amazing and organised by the lodge. We saw leopard, bear, monkeys, three types of deer, crocodiles and many beautiful birds. The naturalist was a fountain of knowledge and made the day really special. Thank you for a great stay.
Beautiful boutique safari lodge. The individual attention and a caring team made us feel very special. Secluded, overlooking paddy fields. Delicious and authentic Sri Lankan food. Ranil and his team undertook one of the largest study of Sloth Bears so they know a thing or two when it came to the safari. We spent a day ticking off the most wonderful array of wildlife. We were here as a family and couldn’t be more happy.
Nothing
Really nice staff, a cold towel and tasty juice on arrival. They also packed us a great breakfast to take on our safari, which was nice since we left at 550am. The room was clean and we found it to cool off enough overnight to have a good sleep.
Food is about double what you will pay in other parts of Sri Lanka, but the location is quite remote so this is somewhat understandable.
Quiet and private. Close to National Park. Next to paddy fields and short walk to lake. Lovely atmosphere
Staff were lovely, but communication was difficult. Expected more considering cost. No cooking on site, so breakfast was poor. Dinner was ordered in, so it was good. Safari information was confusing, so we went on a half day and only saw birds and deer. Told when we got back, we should have done a full day. Cold shower and only portable fan
The staff here are amazing. We are driving a tuktuk and it broke down, they helped to get us started and to a garage. Very kind people. The camp is beautifully done. The tents are spacious and well equipped. Two big comfy bed and a great fan. The bathroom is outside and also will appointed. The viewing platform is a good addition, and the dogs will join you. The lady in reception and at mals is very professional and friendly. She told us how to walk to the nearby lake to see wonderful wildlife. Its only a short walk. The food was brilliant too. They arranged a private safari with naturalist and this was also amazing. We will come back 100%
Nothing to dislike
The location (very remote and very quiet) only 10 mimutes drive from Wilputta park The tent and the open bathroom The food was excellent Staff very friendly
Very hot in the tent during the night ... (august)
Simple but clean rooms in an idyllic setting. The sound of the forest around you is incredible! We throughly enjoyed our day safari to Wilpatu with both our guide and driving being excellent at spotting wildlife. The treehouse was a fun place to spend some time.
The food was hit and miss with ‘grilled’ seeming to be incinerated but the curries were good. With just a single stand up fan in the tent/hut was were very hot and we didn’t sleep very well. Our fan actually broke and despite our explanation that we did not ourselves break it, we were charged $25 on checking out.
One of the best places we stayed in Sri Lanka. The people working at the lodge are so nice, the food is very good and the tent is beautiful. The surroundings are so peaceful. We did a safari with Ranil and it was amazing. He knows a lot about Sri Lankan wildlife and our safari could not have been better! Thank you for this amazing stay!
Nothing bad to say! Everything was great :)
Very beautiful and quite place
The people.!
Nothing
+ Food was good + Large bed + Great location
- Very expensive for the location - No A/C - Very hard bed
We really enjoyed staying in a tent in this small eco-lodge near the entrance to Wilpattu. The owner is an academic who is exceptionally well informed about the flora and fauna in the park - it was a great experience to go on safari with him twice. The tents are basic but comfortable, and the outside bathroom turned out to be much better than we feared! It is a very quiet and secluded place to stay. The food was also delicious.
You have to be prepared for 'visitors' to your tent - there were much fewer insects than we feared (there is a plug-in insect repellent which probably helped, or maybe it was the time of year) - but we did have evidence of a chipmunk and there are birds in the bathroom. We got used to it remarkably quickly but don't leave food lying around!
The lodge is beautiful, amazing food, staff were very helpful with organising the safari and taxi to our next town. The room and ensuite very clean and spacious. Overall excellent stay and good value for money.
No issues encountered
The location was great and really secluded. It felt like you were in the middle of the jungle. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. It was perfect for visiting Wilpattu national park.
Since it was in the middle of nowhere, you only had the option to eat at the location. The food was fine, but not expectational. It seemed a bit pricey for what you got, but it was also hard to tell because I just got a final bill with the total and it was impossible to know exactly how much everything cost.
If you are visiting Wilpattu for a safari, you couldn't stay in a better place than Nirvaan. The lodge used to be a research station for the the owner Ranil's work on sloth bears. Ranil, who is an internationally renowned conservation biologist, has seen his work published all over the world and uses the income from the lodge to fund his on-going research. What could be more brilliant! Accommodation is in one of two permanent tents which now have permanent thatched rooves to protect them and is, as you would expect, pretty basic but more than acceptable. The space was clean, and the beds were large and comfortable, and there is a good sized 'open-air' bathroom. The point it that you don't come here for luxury but for the safari and ours, with Ranil himself as our guide, could not have been better: 65 birds (which Ranil could recognise by their calls alone!), leopard, elephant, jackal and more. Absolutely the highlight of our trip! Note that you are best organising the safari with Ranil before you arrive - his communication on booking, com is very good.
Wish we had been able to spend another day there!
Wildlife experience! Safari was fantastic! Food was good and service is excellent.
We had me of the best sleeps there during our whole stay in Sri Lanka! They have really comfy glamping tents and huge outdoor bathrooms. The safari was THE BEST and one of the biologists who runs the lodge accompanied us and told us so much about the wildlife.
There is no wifi (which we liked very much but should be made more clear in the description). Also there is an extra charge on the final bill which isn’t listed in the description on booking.
We stayed for 2 nights and was just in one word AMAZING. The location is beautiful. The tent is wonderful and are clean and has a nice big bed. And a shower with a view. Just look over the wall and if you are lucky you can spot an elephant. We also booked a full-day tour with them for the Wilpattu National Park. Everything was well organized and they arranged a good breakfast and lunch for us during the safari. The guides are well-trained and have great eyes for spotting the animals. They have an amazing knowledge of the park and animals. Highly recommend this resort if you looking for a nice quiet place to enjoy nature and Wilpattu National Park!!
All was good
The location is superb, staff and owner very helpful, a marvelous experience
Nothing
The host is a well known bioligist who build a few lodges next to the national park entrance and situated in the rice fields. Do not expect any luxury. The money earned go’s after costs back to nature preservation. GO HERE!!
Nice stay.
Please do not come here in a tuk tuk. Owner should take much bigger responsibility in telling this to guests upfront. Road to the lodge is very difficult (although there is a 2 min walk shortcut by foot to the main road, you have to take a li g way round to get to the lodge entrance). We had a seriously scary incident with the tuk tuk toppling sideways because of how difficult the road is.
Comfortable clean room close to Wilpattu NP. Staff were friendly and food was delicious.
N/A
I really liked the place and accommodation. The food was really good, owner and the staff are really friendly and will help you with everything. Had an amazing safari, what you can book at the property.
Nothing
Wow, there are no words for this place. The host Ranil has created an oasis near Wilpattu NP focused on sustainability and responsible tourism. There are only two guest houses and the open hall for gathering and eating. The ambience is very calm and peaceful. But it also feels adventurous sleeping in the tents, knowing that elephants might came to sneak around the neighbouring fields. (We always felt super save because of the locals manning the watch platform during the night and the electro fence). We watched dozens of fire flys and the full moon from our open bathroom area a night. When we arrived on the main road we were picked up by a safari guide whom we booked a full day tour with the next day. Highly recommend that as well. In the evening we talked to Ranil a lot about his projects as a biologist in the park and he gave us a lot of insight into Sri Lanka. Of course my boyfriend loved the dog Kylie. If we ever come back to Sri Lanka we have to come back here.
Prepare for mosquitos in the tent. ;)
Everything was great. The staff were really friendly and so helpful. Safari was also excellent and great value for money. We saw leopards, bears and elephants and all of our questions were expertly answered throughout. The facilities were also brilliant and clean and the accommodation was lovely.
Nothing! There were a lot of creepy crawlers but that is only to be expected when you’re staying just outside the park.
This place is incredible value for the money. I stayed in a similar luxury concept in Yala for 10 times the price and Nirvaan has nothing to envy. The staff couldn’t be kinder. The owner runs a couple of conservation projects and is extremely knowledgeable when it comes to wildlife. The food is simply excellent always a lot of food, Varied and always local. We had some of our best meals there. The team also serves breakfast and lunch if you go for a safari and its great. The rooms are spacious and safe, you will feel like you really are in the jungle and will not have any bugs or mosquitoes inside. Dinners by the fire with a started night are also some of the best memories I will have from this trip. All in all incredible value for money and will come back again soon.
If I had to say something, not enough plugs and lights. But the place was new when we went.
From the very beginning the communication with the host was seamless, they made sure we find the location and picked us up with a jeep where the road started to be too rough for a normal car. The whole experience was amazing, my spider enthusiast son found a soulmate in Ranil, a conservation biologist who runs the place while engaged in fascinating research projects. The food was always freshly made and delicious, the tent was comfortable with beautiful surroundings. As a special treat, Ranil's dad joined us on our safari and shared his wealth of knowledge about the anilmals in Wilpattu National Park, including the leopard couple we spotted on a tree. Thank you for the amazing experience, we felt like we were part of the family.
Nothing.
Very peaceful location with wonderful staff. The night skies were beautiful and everything was organised very well. We even spotted a leopard on our safari trip. Would definitely visit again!
The location was perfect with beautiful view of the paddy fields and the rising sun! the food was awseome and the staff was very friendly.
We stayed here a couple of nights, with our 3 little kids (2, 4 & 6 years old), and we all LOVED it! On arrival there was a colouring book and games for the kids! The owner is very friendly, and has a lot of knowledge regarding wild life. He arranged a nice safari for us to Wilpattu, and also arranged a very nice lunch in the national park. The tent experience is great, the bathroom is super clean, and also has a rainshower. If you are lucky you can see wild elephants right in front of your safari tent. It's amazing to wake up in the middle of nature and the breakfast in the restaurant was so nice. The safari lodge is very close by the Wilpattu National park entrance (2 km).
That we had to leave after 3 days 😉 We definitely come back!
