Reviewed Aug 31, 2026Het ontbijt was zeer verzorgd en bijzonder uitgebreid. Je kan aanpassen aan eigen voorkeuren en wensen. De bediening is super vriendelijk. 's avonds kan je ter plekke genieten van een diner. Werkelijk heerlijk gegeten. Met een topwijntje! Perfect en erg comfortabel want je moet je nadien niet meer verplaatsen. Ligging is bijzonder rustig met spectaculaire view op bergen, de bijzonder mooie tuin, bij zonsondergang kleuren de bergflanken wonderlijk mooi!
Er viel echt niks op te merken. Best bereikbaar met eigen auto.

Reviewed Apr 13, 2026Die Begrüßung von Len war toll. Der Garten mit den vielen Kakteen umwerfend. Swimmingpoolbereich ebenfalls super gestaltet. Frühstück war sehr gut. Abendessen überragend gut. Sehr zu empfehlen die gemischte Vorspeisenplatte. Die Portionen waren auch ziemlich groß.
Beim Frühstück wäre vielleicht noch eine Scheibe normales Brot ganz angenehm. Für jemanden der mit Hunden ein Problem hat, sollte sich überlegen, ob er hier richtig ist. Die Hunde wuseln beim Essen um die Tische und zeigen sich da auch sehr anhänglich. Wenn abgeräumt wird laufen sie auch gerne bellend hinterher (vermutlich dürfen sie die Reste essen?). In den Apartments gibt es kein TV.

The property is in the middle of nature - the view from the lodges is amazing! Generally, the property is very well maintained and has a relaxed vibe.
The road to the property can be driven with a normal car a 4x4 is not needed.
As the lodge is in the middle of nature, we did not feel comfortable having dinner somewhere else. Thankfully the property offers dinner (meat-heavy).
The showers are a bit tricky to operate.
The food was excellent and a great variety to choose from. The yoghurt and guavas at breakfast was delicious
The room aren't very private. The pathway leads around the front of the rooms allowing you to look straight into the windows, The blinds are not practical in the day-time as it makes the rooms dark and is not practical if quick closing is needed.
You can also hear the voices and bathroom taps and toilet running in your neighbors room that could be improved.

Reviewed Mar 29, 2026Die Unterkunft ist besonders schön gelegen, mitten in den Bergen der kleinen karoo. Der Garten ist unglaublich schön gestaltet und die kleine Häuser, in denen die Zimmer sind, fügen sich wunderbar in den Garten ein. Die Zimmer sind groß und rustikal. Besonders schön fand ich die rustikale Dusche und Badamatur, die dem ganzen „Wüstenflair“ zuspielt.
Die Inhaber sind etwas kauzig aber sehr nett. Die Hunde ebenfalls, sie rennen aber überall rum.
Da sich die Hunde, denke ich, nur auf dem Gelände bewegen, verrichten sie dort auch ihr Geschäft. Damit ist es unausweichlich, ab und zu auf Hundehaufen zu stoßen… diese müssten meines Erachtens zügiger entfernt werden.

But the property is a wonderful oasis in the desert, beautiful Fynbos gardens.
Warm, heated! pool. Nice lobby and restaurant.
Dinner was extremely good and tasty, 3 course meal with different options. Fair price.
Breakfast was one of the best we had in South Africa.
A little much light pollution at night, would have liked to see the stars better.

Sobald man die Thabile Lodge erreicht, fühlt man sich sofort wohl und wie Zuhause. Die Gastgeber haben eine wunderschöne Oase inmitten der Halbwüste geschaffen. Die Gastgeber und das Personal sind unglaublich herzlich und zuvorkommend. Nicht zu vergessen die süsse Hundefamilie! Der schöne Garten inkl. Pool lädt zum Verweilen ein und das Essen ist ausgezeichnet. Wer in der Nähe von Oudtshoorn eine Unterkunft sucht, sollte hier auf jeden Fall übernachten.
Peaceful setting outside of town. The owner and staff are friendly and helpful. The reception area is lovely, under the trees, filled with birdsong, beautiful views and large couches. The pool was a great feature. Currently 12 rooms, new (larger family rooms) are being added, but still a manageable volujme of ppl. Manager kindly stored our raw dog food for us.
Rooms could do with larger fridges and some basic cutlery, glasses & crockery if one wants to prep some snacks and a glass of wine in the room. Consider offering dog amenities (bowls, blankets, toys, etc) at a fee; we travel with our own but might be helpful for others. Pool area should be fenced for safety for small kids and visiting dogs. The concrete basins and the untiled showers could be refreshed. The restaurant menu is quite limited, and not ideal for a multi-night stay.

Das Essen ist fantastisch, eine tolle Auswahl und geschmacklich mein bestes Essen bisher in Südafrika. Wir würden immer wiederkommen und es uneingeschränkt weiterempfehlen!

Everything is perfect, the staff, the owners, the ambiance, the decoration and the food.
A special note to the breakfast (totally different from what you can have normally) which makes it delicious.

Der Empfang bei der Ankunft war sehr freundlich und man fühlte sich sofort sehr gut aufgehoben und entspannt. Die Hunde sind Teil des Teil des Hotellebens und entzückend, also sollte man Hunde gerne um sich haben, wenn man dort bucht. Die Landschaft ist wunderschön.
Betten sind etwas hart ;-)!

Reviewed Jan 31, 2026Unfassbare tolle, gepflegte Lodge in der "Mitte vom Nichts". Es war das beste Abendessen auf unserer 3,5 Wochen "Kreuz und Quer" Südafrika Reise. Super saubere Unterkunft in einer Oase der Ruhe mit wunderschönen Pool. Unbedingt länger als eine Nacht bleiben.
Matratzen könnten etwas besser sein, ist aber jammern auf hohen Niveau.

Reviewed Jan 30, 2026Perfect location within easy reach of all Oudsthoorn has to offer but without the overt tourist feel. Extraordinary views to the mountains, chalet type rooms with air con. Wonderful garden with a range of beautiful birds. A glorious warm pool, large enough to swim lengths, and lastly the staff were just great. Hennies dinners were delicious and our host Len was a very warm and welcoming, with a wicked sense of humour and entertaining stories. We left as friends and wouldn’t think of staying anywhere else! Thank you. Oh and the dogs are gorgeous…

Reviewed Jan 29, 2026The setting is fantastic,; the owner and staff were very friendly and personable - not too intrusive but did pay attention to service. The pool is a win (and an absolute neccessity). The fact that it is relatively small - only 12 rooms, means that there are not too many people - it feels more private. Were happy to put house our groceries in their kitchen fridges during our stay.
I think there should be a slightly larger fridge in the rooms and some basic crockery items - if one wants to sit on the stoep and have a snack and drinks, it is not so simple to do so.

Reviewed Jan 10, 2026Our stay at Thabile Lodge was truly wonderful — we’ve known Lin (and the team) for years, actually since our first visit back in 2013, so it’s always like coming home!
This time, the lovely host surprised us once again with a generous complimentary upgrade to a beautiful, spacious apartment, which made our short stay feel extra special. The apartment offered the most breathtaking views over the mountains and the peaceful Karoo landscape — absolutely stunning and so serene!
Unfortunately, we could only stay one night, and it felt far too short. We wish we could have stayed longer to soak up more of the cozy, welcoming atmosphere we’ve loved for over a decade.
In the evening, we enjoyed an absolutely delicious homemade dinner — the food was outstanding, and it’s clear the hosts are incredibly talented in the kitchen! Everyone was so warm, friendly, and hospitable, making us feel completely at home as always. We also loved the adorable dogs on the property — they were such a sweet and fun addition, just like old friends!
All in all, Thabile Lodge remains a real hidden gem with a warm, family-like vibe that keeps drawing us back. We can’t recommend it enough — we’ll definitely return again soon (and hopefully for a longer stay next time)! Thank you, Lin, for another unforgettable visit! ❤️

De lodge zelf is ook heel fijn, ik heb er heerlijk geslapen en wakker worden met dat waanzinnige uitzicht is echt bijzonder. Het restaurant is uitstekend, met heerlijk eten en goede wijnen. Wat het voor mij helemaal afmaakt, is het team van Thabile Lodge. Hun gastvrijheid maakt hier echt het verschil.

The small cottages with the rooms are beautiful, it's quiet and the view is wonderful. We had a lovely dinner and a fantastic breakfast. The pool and garden as well as the entire grounds are perfect for relaxing. Next time we'll stay longer!
There's really nothing to complain about. The internet might not be the fastest, but that also contributes to the relaxation.

Reviewed Dec 14, 2025De locatie is heerlijk rustig, echt een plek om even bij te komen. Thabile Lodge is prachtig gelegen met uitzichten op de prachtige natuur rondom. We werden allerliefst ontvangen door de gastheren die naast een geweldig gevoel voor humor ook heerlijk kunnen koken! De beste struisvogelbiefstuk gedurende onze maand in Zuid-Afrika hebben we hier in het restaurant van de Lodge gegeten! De kamers zijn zeer comfortabel; met lekkere bedden en een grote inloopdouche!
Kortom wanneer we weer naar Zuid-Afrika gaan komen we hier zeker terug maar dan langer!
Helemaal niets! We hadden heel graag langer willen blijven...1 nacht is echt te kort! Het is een heerlijke plek om ook even te relaxen bij het zwembad en daarna weer verder op ontdekking van prachtig Zuid-Afrika.

Reviewed Dec 9, 2025A very comfortable room and a quirky shower and bathroom. Len and Roy were the perfect hosts and such good fun and lovely to meet all the resident dogs. Food was exceptional and hospitality off the chart. I’m recommending this place to all my friends, we need to come back again for longer.

Thabile Lodge is located a bit outside of town — just as we expected when booking — and offers a peaceful, authentic stay in a building style typical for the area. The accommodation itself is simple, but perfectly adequate and full of charm. What truly stood out was the exceptional hospitality: the hosts and staff are incredibly warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The dinner was fantastic as well. A great place if you enjoy a relaxed atmosphere and friendly people.

Het personeel is geweldig, altijd in voor een praatje, geven goede tips en zijn erg vriendelijk!! Het ontbijt zowel als het avondeten is uit de kunst!! Absoluut een aanrader!!!
