Garden in Town Hostel

It was a very unique hostel with lots of plants and spots to sit and chat. They cleaned every day and the kitchen was pretty nice too. The staff seemed mostly friendly and there's lots of space to store your things. Also great bathrooms, really nice showers and the bathrooms are individual so you can easily change, get ready for bed in private.

I was in an upper bed that felt like I was on stilts, I was shook awake everytime the person below me turned. The location is also right next to some kind of brothel I think, I stepped outside of the hostel to make a call and was harassed by a man who worked at this brothel. Obviously not the hostels fault but worth keeping in mind if you travel alone/go outside at night. There is also no freezer or laundry though there is a laundromat across the road (but expensive unfortunately).

Nagyon kedves és segítőkész volt a tulaj és a személyezet. Jól beszéltek angolul, segítőkészek voltak a hellyel kapcsolatban is. Jó érzés volt belépni. Biztonságban ott hagyhattuk a cuccokat az ágyon nem vitte el senki. A konyhát és a terasz részt nem használtuk, de nagyon szimpatikusan, kedvesen volt berendezve.

Az ágy koszos volt, nem vagyok biztos benne, hogy kicserélték-e az ágyneműt előző vendég után. Meleg volt a szoba, nem volt légkondi. Az utcáról éjszaka nagyon behallatszódott a zaj, de nem csukhattuk be az ablakot, mert levegőtlen lett volna a szoba. A fürdőszoba valamikor nagyon szép lehetett. Mostanra már kopott. Meleg víz nem igen volt, bár a hőség miatt ez nem zavart.

The host was really nice and we had no problems finding the hostel or communication. When arriving, after the reception closes, they are going to send you information for online check-in. Overall a good choice.

What i wished would be better it is just the cleanses of the bathrooms but i can imagine that in a bigger scale of people can be difficult to maintain. Other ways the rooms and the common areas are clean, just the bathrooms/shower. I suggest maybe take some slippers in the shower.

Venho por este meio apresentar uma reclamação relativamente à atuação da colaboradora Reny. No dia do check-out, cujo horário é às 12h, acabei por me atrasar. Contactei o hostel às 12:17h a requerir mais uma pernoita e foi-me informado que os meus bens pessoais com lembranças pessoais com o meu nome tinham já sido descartados para o lixo. Por insistência da minha parte a funcionária pretendia pernoitar mais uma noite a mesma disse me que ia tratar da reserva para a próxima noite e ligaria entretanto para confirmar. Liguei mais 3 vezes para o hostel e nunca mais obtive resposta. Relativamente ao comportamento da funcionária sobre os pertences deve ser analisado por parte da gerência de forma a prevenir a mesma atitude perante outros hóspedes.

De locatie is heel fijn! Je bent vlot bij het openbaar vervoer, een leuk parkje en een supermarkt. Er is ook een lekkere pizzaria in de buurt. Nono is een vriendelijke man! De bedden hebben gordijnen, en dat is heel fijn. Je krijgt ook lakens en een handdoek.

Alles rook redelijk muf en de douchebak liep over. Ik heb er niet geweldig geslapen door al het straatlawaai: veel luide auto’s, feestende mensen en muziek. Ik wou ‘s ochtends op tijd vertrekken en gebruik maken van een luggage transfer maar ik heb lang moeten wachten eer er iemand aan de receptie was. Dat is uiteindelijk wel in orde gekomen.

Mekanın menajeri NUNU muhteşem bir insan. Bir daha Porto ya gelirsem kalacağım tek yer GERDEN IN TOWN HOSTEL!!!

Friendly women on reception who checked me in :)

I have stayed in a few hostel, and have never felt as uncomfortable as i did at the garden hostel. There were multiple older men who seemed to live there, making it an unsafe hostel for a female solo traveller. I used the bathroom upstairs because the one on my floor was out of order, and one of the male workers got in my face and yelled at me for being on a different floor. The sheets were stained. The rooms smelt mouldy. The toilet had no seat. The shower had no hot water. It was nothing like pictured online. Located next to a brothel.

A good value on a shared dorm

Only a fan for a dorm room. It got pretty stuffy.

The staff and the owner were incredibly kind and I felt treated warmly as if we were family. Very nice change of demeanor from the more formal attitudes felt in Lisbon and Coimbra.

The toilet on the top floor is positioned a bit awkwardly, right behind the receptionist. Kind of awkward.

No quarto há literalmente um buraco que dá para o sótão. É muito perigoso e está muito sujo. A banheira está extremamente suja. Nunca na minha vida vi condições tão ruins em um banheiro.

Très beau hostel! Nous avions la chambre privée et nous avons adoré, c'est tout comme un petit cocon! L'emplacement était idéal, proche de tout, et Nunob (hôte) était extrêmement attentionné et présent pour s'assurer que tout se passe bien durant le séjour.

There were a group of s*x workers outside the door of the hostel genuinely all night. Additionally you walk down the street and there’s blood on the sidewalk. The terrace doesn’t open all the way and they only have 2 fans for 4 beds so it was over 85° while we slept. Bathroom had visible dirt all over the floor.

O dono do hostel é maravilhoso! De uma energia e simpatia incríveis!

Het personeel is enorm aardig en behulpzaam. Ook locatie is prima. Er zit op loopafstand een supermarkt en de metro is maar 6 minuten lopen. Ook de aankleding van het hostel met de planten die je overal hangen maakt het erg gezellig.

Hostel is erg verouderd. Met de lakens en handdoeken hadden we het idee dat deze al 8 jaar zijn in gebruik zijn. Ook op de bank kussens buiten zaten vlekken. Over het algemeen kan je niet zeggen dat het echt vies was. We vonden wel alles 'smoezelig' Toen wij er sliepen was het de eerste 2 dagen rond de 24 graden en met een ventilator goed te doen. De dag erna was het 28 graden en daardoor enorm warm waardoor we pas laat in de nacht pas konden slapen. Het synthetische kussen wat je krijgt die de warmte vasthoudt helpt dan niet mee Het zou naar onze mening al enorm helpen wanneer ze alle beddengoed en handdoeken vernieuwen en iets betere kussens kopen.

We did not get what we booked; we booked one room for 4 with private bathroom and the room was indoor with a window to the corridor that was not possible to open widely because the bed was an obstacle.

Zimmer überhaupt nicht wie auf den Bildern, Betrug!! Nur halbnackte Männer in den Zimmern, was angesichts des Bordells nebenan wahrscheinlich die Norm ist… haben uns als zwei junge Frauen extrem unwohl gefühlt und wollten sofort weg, haben deshalb auch direkt eine andere Unterkunft gebucht! Auch die Lage ist nicht gut, haltet Abstand von diesem Hostel!!

Everything was clean and tidy. A towel was provided, which was something I didn’t expect, but surely appreciated it. Plus the staff were really nice. Mr Nuno was very welcoming!

Only a small issue was finding some bedbugs in my cushion, and some noises from the bed (made of wood)

The staff was so lovely, they made me feel so welcome. I had a very comfortable stay, especially as a solo female traveller not used to hostels. I definitely recommend this room as it has a sense of privacy with the bathroom only for the 4 person room and balcony. Thank you!

Amazing place

A cosy and clean hostel, I liked it a lot and had a great time there. My host Nuno was very friendly, warm and chatty. I'd happily come back.

Finding the hostel the first time was a bit challenging, since the door is often closed, I had to go back and forth for a couple of minutes before looking up and seeing the name.

The manager welcomed me warmly. The girls are wonderful, there is always someone available. Very pleasant atmosphere, I felt like I was at home. All recommendations

Attenzione alle foto, non descrivono fedelmente il posto. Posizione comoda per la metropolitana, ma meglio non andare verso la stazione dei treni (campana) a piedi. La struttura è situata proprio di fianco a un bordello ed è frequentata da persone particolari, oltre che a ragazzi/ragazze. Host molto cordiale, ma la pulizia lasciava a desiderare. Odore fastidioso in tutta la struttura, muffa nel bagno decisamente sporco, al mattino uno scarafaggio mi guardava mentre mi lavavo i denti e la sera precedente una perdita d'acqua dal soffitto gocciolava in mezzo alla stanza comune. La stanza assegnata era senza finestra e con aria pesante avendo 8 letti in un corridoio stretto, l'unico rinfresco per il naso è stata qualche spruzzata di profumo per ambienti sul ventilatore da parte dell'Host... I letti mi sono sembrati sporchi, ma non ho voluto osservarli troppo per non rovinarmi la nottata. Consiglio, specialmente se si è da soli, di spendere qualche euro in più e trovare una soluzione differente.

Le foto sono totalmente fuorvianti. Super Accoglienza, il receptionist è stato cordiale e molto carino, ma ci ha portati in una camera che si discostava totalmente dalle immagini che vedete in foto. Bagni condivisi, pieni di muffa, una puzza terribile, per tutto l’ostello. Non so se esistono davvero le camere che si vedono in foto perché c’erano altre porte sulle scale. La zona tra l’altro non è delle migliori, si vicino alla metro, ma anche vicino a un bordello. Che dire, avrei speso 20€ in più per dormire l’ultima notte in un posto più dignitoso.

Nonu, the manager, was an absolute star. What a lovely man. I enjoyed my stay thoroughly, only a 7min walk to the nearest metro station with many bus stops and shops nearby. Well managed, not much noise and strict rules on drink and drugs which is amazing.

Only downfall was the showers, all working and do thwir job, but definitely not in pristine order.

It was amazing , Luno was soo nice.The hostel was clean and calm, and close to almost everything. I also met wonderful people in the hostel. I would definitely recommend.

I really liked the host. They were extremely welcoming,kind and helped me with everythink I needed during my stay.

The Wi-Fi didn't work well in the rooms.If ypu wanted a good connection,you had to stay in the hallway or near the reception area. I was disappointed to find cockroaches in the downstairs bathroom near the kitchen. To make things worse,the host sprayed cockroach insect repellent right next to me while I was eating in the kitchen,which was very unpleasant.

Staff were friendly and helpful and there was a good vibe in the hostel. There were plenty of shops and cafes in the immediate vicinity and also a launderette. Easy navigation (negating the need to climb back down the hill into city centre) to get onto the Camino Portuguese. Excellent value for money in a big exciting city.

Dorm was a bit warm at night as there was no window to open. I was expecting real garden flowers and foliage, but alas... all are made of plastic. Small seating area outside was frequented by smokers which to a non smoker is not ideal.

All'arrivo ci viene proposto di dormire in una stanza non presente nelle foto di booking, senza finestre e poco arieggiata. Veniamo sistemate, dopo nostra puntualizzazione, in un' altra stanza comune, priva di aria condizionata, con due ventilatori e una finestra che dava sul giardinetto e dal quale provenivano schiamazzi notturni e odori di cucina. Letti sporchi, cuscini pieni di polvere, moquette ovunque, sotto i letti residui di carte alimentari, prese elettriche sovraccariche e con scarico energetico. Non vengono fornite le lenzuola. Cucina sporca e male odorante, con frigorifero sporco e con residui di cibo. Bagni e docce sporchi e mal odoranti. Il proprietario gira continuamente tra le camere per spostare ventilatori a suo piacimento. Nota dolente: la mattina del checkout, mentre aspettavamo un Uber, un' ospite dell' ostello ubriaco faceva rientro, con indumenti in condizioni pietose( vomito addosso) e lo staff dell' ostello non era presente alle ore 6:40. Zona poco raccomandata.

I had a genuinely lovely stay here. My flight from Vienna was badly delayed, and by the time I reached out about check-in, it was already late, but the staff were incredibly kind about it. In the morning, they asked about my flight, saw how delayed it had been, and were genuinely hoping I’d gotten enough rest. That kind of thoughtfulness makes a real difference after a rough travel day. I stayed in an 8-bed dormitory and honestly didn’t expect much privacy, but I had plenty, it was clean, quiet, and well looked after. The garden behind the building was beautiful, easily one of my favorite parts of the stay. I’d come back just for that.

Eigentlich überhaupt nichts.

Dieser war allerdings ranzig und alt. Die Betten waren grauenhaft. Keine Ablage für sachen im Bett. Dreck und Staub an der Seite. Völlig überhitztes unklimatisiertes Zimmer. Der Mann hat mich angemotzt, dass ich ein anderes Bett gewählt habe, obwohl der Mitarbeiter davor meinte, ich könne wählen was ich will. Kein Schloss für den Spint vorhanden.

Infelizmente me decepcionei. Já estive hospedado antes e foi muito bom, mas desta vez não. No quarto, muito calor e abafado. Toalhas de banho terríveis, velhas e manchadas. Banheiro suportes de chuveiro quebrados , ralos e encanamentos entupidos. Na parte inferior, um terrível cheiro de cigarro, fumam e não fecham as portas. Infelizmente me surpreendi.

De host was echt super aardig. Het was een fijn ontvangst en ik kreeg meteen een hele rondleiding.

Het hostel heet ''garden in town'' maar het stond binnen vol met plastic nepplanten. Het was binnen ook een beetje broererig. Ik zou zeggen, zet er echte planten neer. De ''garden'' was een betonnen binnenplaats waar mensen aan het roken waren. Kortom, als je ''Garden'' in je naam hebt staan zou ik groen verwachten. Groen geeft ook verkoeling.

Izuzetna ljubaznost domaćina. Prostorije su čiste pune sitnih detalja koje ulepšavaju boravak. Kompletno opremljena i funkcionalna kuhinja. Kupatila su čista i održavana. Kreveti u sobama imaju zavese koje daju privatnost.

Nije mi se dopalo što sam ovde proveo samo 2 noći. Moglo je i trebalo je više.

La chambre ne correspond pas au visuel. Le quartier est à 30 minutes à pieds du centre et il y a aussi des prostituées juste à côté et nous avions une chambre qui donne sur la rue qui est très bruyante . Les sanitaires et l’ensemble de l’établissement mériterai un bon rafraîchissement.

The common spaces were ok.

I did the mistake of not trusting older reviews saying that the place had bed bugs, since recent ones said they didn't, but I am now covered in bites and could feel them happening while being in bed but have never checked for bed bugs before in my life. When arriving home I had to take extra care with everything I brought back with me. It was also relatively distant from the city center and there was a brothel right next to it, but those aspects were far less bothersome.

There was no hot water, no lock in the room, the area is not safe and really loud at night

The staff was super nice and the accomodation is beautiful dont get me wrong.

However, the bedrooms didn't have locks on the door so anyone could come in the girls room, there wasn't hot water and the location itself was a little sketchy. I was expecting a little better but for the price I can't complain too much.
