Anantara Veli Maldives Resort - Adults Only

We recently spent five wonderful days at Anantara Veli Maldives, staying in a Beach Pool Villa, and the experience was truly amazing. As an adults-only resort, Anantara Veli is peaceful, relaxing and never felt overcrowded. Our villa gave us several swimming options: directly from the beach in front of the villa, in our private pool, or at the resort’s main pool. The Beach Pool Villa itself was clean, neat and very spacious. Before travelling, we had heard that insects can sometimes be an issue in beach villas, but we did not experience any problems during our stay. The bed was large and comfortable, and the Samsung TV allowed us to stream content easily from our phones and iPad. The villa’s layout was also excellent. There were separate indoor and outdoor showers, and the open-air shower was a particularly enjoyable experience. The dressing area and bathroom could be closed off individually, with doors separating the different sections and providing good privacy. The curtains blocked the sunlight effectively whenever we wanted to rest. The room also included an espresso machine, and the supply of drinking water was excellent. We drink a lot of water, but we never needed to request more because the team consistently provided three or four large bottles in the villa. One of the resort’s biggest advantages is having access to the neighbouring sister resort, which is only a short boat ride away. It genuinely feels like having two resorts in one. You can enjoy the restaurants, facilities and two different spas across both islands. Breakfast was excellent. You can choose between the buffet at the neighbouring island or an à la carte breakfast at Anantara Veli. Both were very good, although I personally preferred the buffet because of the wider variety. A special thank-you to Mr. Tamer, who kindly told us that if we wanted any Arabic dishes that were not available at the breakfast or dinner buffet, we could simply ask and he would arrange them for us.

From the moment we stepped off the airplane to our hotel stay, everything was exceptional. Our butler, Hameez went over and beyond taking care of our services to reservations and providing additional support for my injured mother. We loved the breakfast at Cumin, every course was delicious with lots of variety and catered our adjustments. We also had a chance to try some other restaurants, our next favourite was Baan Huraa…the meal was fantastic. The sous chef, Suda ensured my mother had the right spices in her main dish and ensured it wasn’t too spicy so she provided fresh mango ice cream. It was such a nice treat! I had a chance to visit the spa and my facial service was phenomenal. I also visited the gym and the classes, and they were top notch. The beaches are pristine clean with whatever services you needed from wine to snacks. The boat between the resorts was so easy to use. My mother had a fall, the whole team ensured she had what she needed and made our stay more enjoyable from room service to extra ice to support getting onto the boat to the airport. This was magical trip that we will never forget and the resort ensured it exceeded our expectations.

My only feedback, the sushi restaurant, Origami, the service was a bit slow and we waited for meals. I had dined here twice and I was in rush the second time.

A lovely adults-only resort, perfect for a quiet and relaxing break. The island is quite small, which makes it feel peaceful and not crowded at all. The service was very good throughout our stay. The overwater villas are comfortable and well designed. The beach in the lagoon is excellent - clear water and very calm. There is a good choice of restaurants, and it’s also nice that you can visit restaurants at the neighbouring resort. The location is very convenient, only about a 30-minute boat ride from the airport.

The internet was quite slow at times, which could be an issue if you need to work or stay connected.

All was perfect

The staff were super friendly and helpful, who would go out of their way to make sure you were happy and tried their best to fix problems. The individually assigned reception person who dealt with you is a great initiative (peach we had was great). We chose it partly because of proximity to the airport and it was easy to get to while still having the Maldives feel. Veli as adults only was calm, relaxed and catered to your needs. Dhoni bar was great and we spent most nights there, staff really friendly. The diving was excellent and the dive team super relaxed, friendly and helpful, though the shark snorkelling was a bit commercial and artificial (fed to attract them) and served a number of islands. Would recommend the ocean view villa rather than the ones over the water as you get more privacy and more space - this is true in my view for most Maldives resorts. The issues we had (see below) were sympathetically handled by the manager who went out of his way to help, so lots of credit there.

I think a couple of detailed points may help potential guests and are only from our perspective: the two islands linked appeared a good option but the family friendly island had kids who were not well controlled. Due to the Maldives not restricting Russians, there were a lot there who behaved as they felt fit. The bar (Aqua) and restaurant were not particularly pleasant and we left quickly. However, sea salt fire and the bar above that were excellent. The Thai restaurant was nothing special and kids were ‘ruling the roost’ - we ended up leaving but got a guest visit to the private island which was amazing - only a glimpse but clearly a step above if you get the chance! Don’t get me wrong, we have and love kids, it’s just a lot were managed by maids and allowed to do anything they wanted with many guests lacking consideration for others. This is clearly not really a fault of the hotel, neither was the view of the high rises being built on the nearby island, though this somewhat detracted from the Maldives paradise. We still loved the Veli island resort though!

A huge thank you to Fethi, our villa host, for his kindness, professionalism, and constant support throughout our stay. He made everything feel effortless and ensured every detail was perfectly taken care of. Every morning started beautifully thanks to Dema, the breakfast host, who always greeted us with the warmest smile and remembered our names. That level of personal attention made the experience feel incredibly personalized and heartfelt. The dining experience was elevated by the wonderful waiters Riva, Nabith, and Ziyan — always positive, friendly, and genuinely happy to serve. Their energy, humor, and openness to conversation made every meal a joy. A very special thank you to the team for the beautiful birthday surprise they prepared for my partner. The thoughtful setup and attention to detail truly touched our hearts and made the celebration unforgettable. It was such a lovely and meaningful gesture that we will always remember. Special appreciation also goes to Saliq, our room attendant, for the impeccable tidiness of our villa and the adorable handwritten notes he left behind. Those little touches added so much warmth and charm to our stay. Thank you to the entire Anantara Veli team for creating such a memorable and heartfelt experience. The prices for basic items were verging on obscene. The gala dinner for NYE (which was mandatory and you’re only told after you book was US$600 per person not including alcohol. The central pool is very small and even though it’s an adult island, kids are permitted from the nearby other Anantara.

All the staff were so friendly and helpful, with special thanks to our lovely host Ibu who took such great care of us. He booked all our meals and activities, and was always available with a buggy as I wasn’t able to walk far. Both our rooms (a deluxe overwater villa and an overwater villa) felt new, were beautifully positioned, and designed to a high specification. We enjoyed a generous à la carte breakfast each morning overlooking the ocean, and there was a good variety of restaurants available. We particularly loved the teppanyaki at the Japanese restaurant, and the exceptional food and ambience at a sake tasting menu event on beach, held in a beautifully lit gazebo constructed just for the evening. We travelled with our two adult children and they were able to accommodate a single bed in their villa. With Aqua Fanatics, we enjoyed the sunset dolphin cruise, "fishtank" snorkelling, parasailing, and diving with nurse sharks - all truly unforgettable experiences. We only wish we’d had more time to do the dolphin snorkelling too! There were also lovely, thoughtful details like the complimentary flip-flops that left a little shark image in the sand when you walked. Thank you to all the staff for making this such a special and memorable holiday. We genuinely couldn’t have enjoyed it more.

Absolutely nothing!

To start of, the staff were absolutely amazing! They were very helpful, responsive and they truly made our stay memorable, specially Joelle she was incredible! We were celebrating our birthday there and they went out of their way to decorate for us and give us a cake, so sweet of them. The resort was super beautiful, and the overwater villa was exceptional, every single amenity you can think of was in the room, nothing was missing. We were very impressed. There’s also plenty of restaurants to choose from and the food was good. We loved the variety of the breakfast buffet and the Christmas party buffet was incredible - nothing like I’ve seen before. Everything was super clean and well maintained and it only took us 30 minutes to reach from the airport to the resort by speed boat. Also the fact that we had access to the other Anantara resort made it more fun for us to explore around the islands.

The only thing we didn’t like is we booked the Adults only resort, meanwhile plenty of the festive activities on the island connected to the other resort which is more for families so we did see children roaming around or attending the festive events taking place which we did not expect considering we booked adults only but either way, it did not really ruin the experience, just a watch out.

Location of our villa which we have asked to change but no one even came to explain or apologize about availability . We took full board package but it had only few restaurants oncluded and we had to pay extra at some other restaurants

The refurbished villas are fine

The food is far below average. I get better food on board of any plane. Drinks - terrible. In most cases it seems they even don’t now how mix simple cocktails properly. Small selection of fruits at breakfast and what they have is not totally fresh too . So bottled drinks are only option. Regarding food all looks cheap. So called Wagyu beef was a it rotten and you definitely feel it on taste. Over water villas are refurbished, but the quality is very questionable. Like, irregular wooden screens between villas. Or some terraces bending down on corners. Servis from personal butler was very questionable, as she was permanently doubting if we are couple or not. Very unpleasant. From 500 other options I will next time avoid this place for sure. The fame of this place is clearly long gone. Staff training to modern hotel standards does not exist there

This was our second trip to Anantara Veli and the place has kept its magic. No detail is missed - from the excellent food served at the restaurants, to the cleanliness of the facility, the celebration of special moments (anniversaries, birthdays, return trips, end of stay), to the flexibility and friendliness of the staff. Every step of the journey is perfectly designed. A very special mention to Paula, Kareem and Ravi for for making our moments extra special; and to Ibu and Joelle for their hospitality and attention at all times of the day!!

The prices of the food and beverages are on the high side. An island in Veli's sight has built high hotel buildings that sadly take away from the idyllic views and scenery. Try to not look that way as you're sitting on the pool.
