Reviewed Aug 4, 2026The location is excellent - right in the centre of Westport. The unit is down the back of a lovely leafy garden and has its own outdoor area with seating. The hosts supplied fresh brown bread, butter, jam, milk and tea and coffee and were really nice and friendly but left us to our own devices which is just what you want. It has all amenities you'd want - full kitchen, sitting room set up with TV. It is really well decorated - everything is so well done. We were in Westport for a wedding and stayed for 3 nights and it was so much nicer than a hotel. Would definitely stay again. Thanks a million!

There was nothing we didn't like. There were 7 of us, all Senior pensioners with different interests and we liked the flexibility of our own individual rooms as well as the use of two separate lounges. If weather permitted we would have made more use of the well laid out garden.

Reviewed Sep 18, 2025Fantastic place to stay. We were in the Cart House on the Roost property - built many, many years ago right to the edge of the river - two foot thick walls. It has been completely renovated to modern (and high level) standards, and has been outfitted very well. Cozy, quiet and spotlessly clean and well furnished, and only a very short walk to the centre of Westport. Sitting at the kitchen table was a delight - you could almost touch the river on the other side of the window. We loved everything about it!!

Only problem I had,I'm asthmatic and quilt and pillows were feathered, wrapped towels around them, I'm sure I could be facilitated but it was my problem. Lynda couldn't do enough.

The only thing we didn't like was the roughness of the raw cotton/linen sheets. That being said understand the ecofriendly principles of the proprietors.

Reviewed Oct 1, 2024You will not always be welcomed with questions about how you might paint the outside of your accommodation but this typifies the friendly, informal greeting you WILL receive here. The Roost is a delightful cottage. It is, as the cliche says, small but perfectly formed. It is compehensively equipped whether you need to use the washing machine after a damp hike up Croagh Patrick or cook a restorative meal, foresaking the excellent restaurants of Westport. It looks like it has just been restored...immaculately clear and tidy. The bedroom has an enormous (there is probably a technical word) bed. It is unbelievably comfortable and the duvet and sheets are very special. It makes me sound as if I live in a cave but I really liked the feel of the bedding! Anyway, if you are visiting Westport or need a base to explore Mayo, this is the place (for two). If you are a bigger party they have a larger unit which appears of the same standard. I doubt I could praise this place or the welcome more. And I initially thought light blue but really it should be white. Visit Westport, stay here.
You know 'nothing'. But I would replace the shower head. I had one like that myself once and it is rubbish. it works until it doesn't and that tends to be pretty soon.

They are also quick to respond to questions and very helpful. Ideal space for two people, but no more. Bedroom and bathroom are upstairs. Very clean. Definitely recommend!

We would have liked a microwave in the kitchen. I also felt the need to buy a frying pan for breakfast! I know this is a personal thing... But we found the bed too high and uncomfortable...

The quality of the finish was exceptional with every detail considered to make your stay as comfortable as possible - there was even an umbrella! The outdoor seating area was an unexpected bonus. Only 5 mins walk into the town and has it's own courtyard offering great privacy and off street parking. Everything you need is there including an iron and board, hairdryer, beautiful shower gel and shampoo and the basics for the kitchen (tea, coffee, sugar, oil and salt). The hosts Linda and Paul are very friendly and are nearby if needed. Will definitely hope to be back.

Reviewed Feb 11, 2024We stayed for two nights in the garden shed. The location is great. You are very close to the main restaurants and pubs, just a short walk over the river. The attention to detail with the property is very unique. The bed is probably one of the comfiest I have ever stayed in, the pillows are very soft. It is very cosy and picturesque at night with the patio lighting. I loved everything about our stay. The host Linda was very attentive, and checked in with us and communicated well.

Reviewed Jun 25, 2023We stayed for 3 nights in the 1 bedroom cottage and it was perfect! Walking distance to town and easy parking makes such a difference. The kitchen was well equipped - we cooked each night. The bedroom and bathroom (both upstairs) were spacious and comfortable. Windows could be opened to allow ventilation. Clear instructions re wifi etc were left as well as recommendations for cafes etc. A washing machine and clothesline were a bonus. The friendly host checked in with us the following day to make sure all was OK. Apart from all the practical things, the cottage was also very stylishly decorated.
