The owner was the perfect host. Met us on arrival and we were made to fell so welcome and at home on the 8000m2 property. Graeme established an immediate rapport with us and then introduced his wife,

Tastefully decorated in keeping with historical era. Enjoyed the books. Very comfortable and clean.

Lovely 2 bedroom loft above the garage. Completely self-contained and detached from the main house. Well equipped and spacious, with plenty of off street parking. Would stay again when I'm in Whanganui.

The host was very welcoming and responsive to messages. Apparently they had an issue with facility the previous night so they could have cancelled our booking at the last minutes but didn't but rather got someone to fix it to accomodate us despite the new year holiday period. The place was quiet and clean, and well equipped.

Absolutely stunning place to stay. I would highly recommend this place. The owner is absolutely lovely. I will be back sometime in the future.

There were so many little thoughtful details that made a difference, the little sweets at the door, the tea and coffee selection and lovely shower soaps. The kitchen was well equipped and allowed us to make our own meal easily instead of eating out. The gardens are beautiful and we loved waking up to the birdsong. The beds were super comfortable and warm. Graeme communicated extremely well and timely which was lovely. My step father left his wallet there and he has easily enabled us to collect it soon.

Dealing with the hosts was VERY easy, and they couldnt have been more accommodating. The grounds and the apartment premise were very tidy and well kept, with almost everything we could have wanted :) Being located a bit further out of town, and back from the road was great as the 'noise' was definitely less. Had a number of conversations with Graeme over the few days we were there, which were all great and also informative about the area and the Homestead.

Trivial items.... Would have been great to have had an aircon/heat pump. There were heaters which did a good job on the chilly nights. A larger oven - the bench top oven did a good job, but was limited in what we could cook at one time which just made it a bit more challenging when feeding a few adults for dinner Apart from these small items which are preferential more than dislikes, there was nothing else we needed for our extended weekend stay.

⸻ Rating: 😠 (Very disappointed) Review: We stayed one night at Arles Historical Homestead and were very unsettled by the experience. When we returned late in the evening, we noticed that lights had been turned on, our bags had clearly been tampered with, my suitcase was unzipped, and our personal items — including my underwear — had been rifled through. Windows were left open and items in the fridge had been moved. This felt incredibly invasive and unsafe. The towels left out for us were damp and smelled strongly of wet dog — we had to air them out in the sun just to use them. The apartment itself was unclean, so I used some of the host’s products from the laundry to tidy it up. After we left, the host phoned us accusing us of things we absolutely did not do — smoking in the room (neither of us smoke), damaging bedding, and stealing shampoo. These accusations were false, offensive, and entirely uncalled for. The space is cold, overpriced, and not what we expected from the listing. The host was intrusive and inappropriate — we were watched, snooped on, and treated with suspicion. This is not a safe or welcoming place for women or any travellers. Very disappointing.

A single night stay in mid July. Great old homestead close to town. Bed was great. Lighting excellent for reading in lounge and bed room. A place to visit late spring and summer with all the flowers. Definitely a warmer micro climate there as it was quite warm outside in morning on a dull overcast.

No real complaints because of the season. Not the warmest in Winter but panel heaters coped along with electric blankets

It had only one portable heater so it was very cold.

Beautiful homestead with lovely accommodation above the garage.

This was our 2nd stay here, it is situated above Graeme's garage. It is high up so it's amongst the trees right beside their Homestead, it is so quiet. It has everything you need & is very comfortable. We have been made to feel very welcome both times.

It's not a dislike but the shower is a bit temperamental, just a heads up.

Location and environment. Flat was a home away from home and absolutely comfortable.

It was tastefully furnished and equipped in every respect; hand the grounds and especially the trees are amazing, and it's in a very handy location, close to the river and a bridge to cross over. The host was most helpful in his local recommendations.

Slightly dated appearance but still clean. Bathroom only had a net curtain so felt uncomfortable with the light on if showering at night. Toilet wasn’t working properly which when we reported it didn’t seem to come as any surprise. Was annoying though as in constant flush. Flat very much under large trees so had a lot of noisy debris falling on the roof or scraping against windows which was a bit disturbing

It was a very comfortable and peaceful stay, a little bit out of town but great if you have your own transport. Graham the host was very friendly and helpful. There was a lot of interesting information and history provided. The big Australian Kauri tree is spectacular.

Excellent location though little away from the city. But perfect for someone looking to enjoy the peace and quiet. Also ideal for a group to unwind and relax.

This is a very relaxing place to stay. Very clean, quiet and comfortable. Graeme was a very friendly and knowledgeable host. We stayed in the separate "Tree Tops Lodge" where we enjoyed great privacy surrounded by trees and nature. The rural location is outstanding and yet its only a 5 or 6 minute drive from the Whanganui CBD.

Nothing to complain about really except that the view towards the nearby river is blocked by some of the enormous trees that obviously thrive in this location.

Location perfect for our visit to Papaiti Gin just up the road. Lots of little extras and stunning location. Comfy beds, and snuggly blankets.

Just note that there is not a full oven if you wish to cook, but a bench top mini oven is provided.

Great hospitality from the host, who is very helpful (detailed intro of sites around) and generous (gave me an adapter for two legs outlet which saved my life for charging my devices).
