Varkenskraal Farm

Lovely cottage on a working farm. The location is beautiful and situated at the beginning of the Meringspoort pass. The pass is currently closed for road work repairs, but we were able to walk to the waterfall and enjoy the beauty of the pass all to ourselves. You can only walk/ride into the pass on weekends.

The cottage (Voerstal) is very private and peaceful with views over the vineyards towards the mountains. I think the firepit will be a lovely place for conversation and chilling.

Loved location - beautiful farm!

We were under the impression we had a lapa in front of the house for a braai. The pictures on Booking.com can cause misinterpretation as we did not realise there is more than a unit to rent.

The location is beautiful and everything is well set out to ensure a lovely stay

It was very cold so the indoor fireplace and the electric blankets were great.

We frequently return to Varkenskraal - One of the best places to stay.

This delightful little rural farm cottage is situated against the mountain, looking out onto vineyards. It is at the start of Meiringspoort. The cottate is clean, neat, calm and comfortable. I would love to spend a week there. It has a good braai area out at the back and all the amenities you need to have a very comfortable stay. The beds are comfy too. Our host kindly left us a complementary bottle of their own wine. It was good. I would recommend booking this and would like to return some day.

Had a really great time here, fantastic location and easy to get to. The cottage(werkershuis) was very well appointed, clean, well laid out and very comfortable. It is also pet friendly with ample space. I can definitely recommend the place to anyone wanting a nice break or to explore the area. Added bonus was the complementary wine and interesting books on the history of the pass. Our host Debbie was fantastic and will go the extra mile for you.

Highly recommended for anyone, especially a family or group of friends looking for a memorable experience in the most awesome scenery on a working farm. Breathtaking views, luxurious linen, fantastic facilities and lots of space. A friendly and helpful hostess and the owner was kind enough to call ahead to warn us of a temporary road closure nearby.

Our only regrets were not having any friends and family to experience it with and have a braai with us. And the mozzies. When we go back we will definitely take mosquito repellant with us! The locals were very keen to meet us!

Attention to detail and enthsiastic reception. Calm and quiet, lots of birds and tortioses. Well equipped and comfortable.

Nothing really. The house was fully equipped. A small sharp knife for cutting veggies would be handy.

I love the tranquil farm setting and space for the dogs to stretch their legs after a long car ride. Love the large shower and comfy bed. There is also shade for the vehicle, making it very convenient for on- and off-loading.

Exceptionnel!! Nous avons passé un magnifique séjour dans cette superbe maison. Très bien située pour visiter la région. Très bel environnement au milieu des vignes avec vue sur la montagne. Calme absolu et spectacle incroyable du ciel étoilé. La maison est vaste, très bien équipée, joliment décorée, très propre. Et quel bel accueil de notre hôtesse avec en plus, une bonne bouteille de vin que nous avons dégustée sur la grande terrasse. Merci beaucoup! Nous recommandons sans réserve.

Spacious and very neat and clean 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom cottage in beautiful Meiringspoort. Our host met us at reception and was very helpful. I will definitely stay here again.

Très bon accueil de l hotesse Debbie, j'ai gouter le vin offert du domaine , il est excellent. La fermette est vraiment jolie, fonctionnelle et sécurisée. Très propre. Hormis la présence de la grand route, le domaine est très calme avec plein d'oiseaux et de jolies plantes exotiques Bien placée pour aller au Zwartbergpass et y aller faire de merveilleuses promenades ( trail) ou aller manger dans un excellent restaurant à Oudtshoorn.

Beautiful and peaceful. Quick access to the points of interest in Meiringspoort and De Rust. Impeccably kitted-out kitchen. Great braai facilities. Quality and clean bedding and towels.

A beautiful working farm, tucked behind a mountain vista with really modern and comfortable lodgings. We received the warmest welcome from Debbie, who made sure we had everything we needed for our stay. The farm is pet friendly, so my two travelling kitties had the best time watching the birds and taking little walks to the dam. Absolutely will be back.

The cottage had everything one could possibly need for a beautiful country stay. Debbie was in touch to make sure all is going well. The bottle of Merlot and wood for first evening was a lovely gesture.

Thank you Debbie for a wonderful stay. Even my giant Bernese Mountain Dog, Baloo, enjoyed the stay. Highly recommended.

Everything advertised is there. The accommodation was exactly what we needed. Cozy and beautifully furnished. Debbie was extremely helpful and friendly.

The unit we stayed in was extremely disappointing

Photos were misleading. Matress in bedroom as hard as a rock. Photos showed boma.

Accommodation was exceptionally clean and all amenities are quality

We paid for 3 people, 2 rooms, but my daughter missed a flight and had to stay with us longer, so we were 4 people - we were charged R650 for her to stay the 1 night in the room my other daughter was already staying in. Thought it was a bit steep. The braai wood was R35 per bag, but could have just been thrown in for the price you pay. No electric blankets on 2 beds.

Oh Wow. Right at the bottom of one of the most Beautiful Passes in South Africa. Stunning setting. Most welcoming hostess Debbie. Would definitely take my wife there and force the detour just for the stay.

Lovely quiet, peaceful farm stay, great spacious cottage, cosy once in bed! Friendly host and the Bonus bottle of complimentary wine from the farm was a lovely unexpected touch!

Cottage was cold and the aircon unit didn’t seam to heat the room but nothing warm clothes couldn’t solve. Plus electric blankets were provided so it was cosy and warm in bed.

The venue is stunning and the host Debbie went the extra mile to make is feel welcome, even delivering firewood and firelighters to us. The complimentary bottle of their home grown wine was a nice touch. The accommodation is generous and well equipped. There is a lovely covered from porch and covered braai area at the back and plenty of hot water in the showers. The area is beautiful and peaceful I highly recommend this venue

Regtig iets besonders. Debbie het uit haar pad gegaan om ons alles te gee wat ons nodig het. Selfs n gratis bottel yskoue Varkenskraal Chenin blanc. Plaasbestuurder het seker gemaak dat ons veilig oor die laagwaterbrug kom toe n storm losbars.

We enjoyed the silence, the well equipped house, the braai, the fire pit and the beautiful mountains while enjoying the complimentary Chenin Blanc on the stoep!

There was nothing not to like

We will definitely be back, and for at least 3 nights! We couldn't fault Varkenskraal, the setting is magnificent and every thing about our cottage was perfect. It's spotless, well set up from a utensil and furnishing point of view. The beds were comfortable too. Debbie is a wonderful host!
