Alpaca feeding Neil was great to talk to
Nothing
We loved staying there! Neil is such a great host and the place was very clean. We got to feed the alpacas. You can see how much the alpacas are loved and cared for. Thank you so much we will come back next time!
Great hidden gem, with amazing hosts and cute alpacas! We enjoyed the amazing hill top views overlooking Waihi and waking up to nice morning fog with the alpacas in the background. Getting to feed the animals around the farm was also super fun!
The property was quiet, with an incredible view of Waihi. The heard of alpaca were such a treat as was being allowed to feed them. The rooms were very comfortable, warm and easy to find.
I can’t fault Waihi Gold Alpacas. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Location, Surroundings and the hosts
Great location for an escape to beautiful rural farmland. Great Hosts. Would highly recommend.
There was nothing to dislike
There was no TV in the room, however my colleague was there on business so not necessary, the comfort and location ticked the boxes that needed ticking!!
We stayed at a lovely couple’s cottage on the top of a hill, and it was like a dream to be able to interact with a big family of alpacas. The two hosts showed incredible hospitality — before we left, they even made us promise not to wash the dishes or tidy up the beds! We couldn’t help but laugh. The utilities and furniture were all clean, well-maintained, and very easy to use, which made our stay even more comfortable. They kindly let us spend as much time as we wanted with the alpacas, goats, and their friendly dog,Bear.
Rural, away from the city

The peace and serenity was divine. Just what we needed. The view was a salve to our eyes and mind. It's the kind of spot where all you want to do is stretch, breathe and dream. Loved it.
Remoteness, clean and quiet.
Leaving
beautiful location, great hosts
Joanne and Neil are incredible hosts! We stayed for three nights, and honestly, we would have loved to stay longer. They own a little slice of heaven and are so generous in sharing it with others. If you love animals and nature, this is the perfect spot for you. Every morning, we had the pleasure of feeding the Alpacas and Goats. We also got to meet Bear, the official welcoming dog, and even had a chance to feed the goldfish. It’s truly an amazing place to visit! Everything you need is right there. The cabins are clean and tidy, and it’s clear that Joanne and Neil genuinely care about their guests’ comfort and enjoyment. We even took advantage of the BBQ a couple of nights, relaxing under the open skies filled with stars—such a delightful experience. Thank you Joanne and Neil, we are more than happy with how this little trip went. Javiera will miss to see the Alpacas every day.
What a perfect little spot, so peaceful and the view amazing to
Probably the best accommodation and host I've been to...the place was wonderful, Joanne and Neil was extremely nice and took us for a personal tour through the place. Loved the overall experience and the place was wonderful. Loved meeting the alpacas and other pets :D Thanks
Our host Neil was incredibly friendly. He took us to see the Alpacas even though we arrived later than expected. He was extremely knowledgeable and made us feel very welcome. The accommodation was enough for us, very clean and overlooking beautiful rolling hills. Very peaceful and secluded, watched over by the resident curious (but shy) male Alpaca in the adjoining paddock. Neil even took the trouble to bring the alpacas over in the morning so that we could feed them. Would highly recommend and can not possibly give less than a 10/10!
Neil is an amazing host. The Alpacas are lovely. And the place is fantastic for a relaxing time (beautiful views too)
Neil was a great guy to deal with. Location of cabins was so beautiful.
The scenery is beautiful , a stunning private place for a getaway and the hosts are lovely :)
Great interaction with Neil the owner. He was very informative about the area which we appreciated. Neil also generously supplied us with petrol when we realised we wouldn't have made it to the next service station. As there was no running water in the cabin, Neil advised he would do all the dishes! Grateful for that.
Outside door mat would be good.
The views on this alpaca farm are magnificent. Joanne and Neil are an absolutely wonderful couple who have created a very comfy and private space from which to enjoy the scenery. The accomodations are modern modular units that were spotlessly clean. If this were a fancy resort, I'd give it a 10, but pay far more. It was perfect for anyone who appreciates outdoor beauty, animals, great comfort and outstanding value. Joanne and Neil were very giving of their time as we asked a lot of questions about their alpacas, goats, and off-grid living. Fantastic!
Unusual location on an alpaca farm
It was a small unit but very clean and a great location
A special place
Unique location and experience. Friendly owner who took us feed the alpacas! Comfortable bed and good sized bathroom
Be aware bathroom is accessed via the patio (no real issue for us)
Cleverly designed and built so that visitors can wake and see - from their beds - beautiful views all around, including the nearby field of alpacas! All the facilities are stylish and high spec, and everything is pristine clean. If you’re able to get up around 7.30/8am, you can help Neil feed the family’s alpacas and goats. And there are fantail birds filling the pine trees by the room pods, and fully grown (and still alive) kauri trees on the farm; it’s very special here.
Neil was a fantastic host and we felt very at home. Thanks for the warm welcome and give xena our love.
The location was great, the place was immaculately clean, the owners are lovely and super helpful. We got to experience the morning ritual of alpaca, goat, and fish feeding and also Neil’s care toward his animals.
We were disappointed we couldn’t enjoy the scenery and things this place has to offer due to the wet weather.
The sunrise and view took my breath away! It is such a beautiful setting, and it was good fun to help feed the alpacas. I didn't want to leave!
I loved the location, views were beautiful, the peace and quietness was so relaxing, the alpacas were so lovely, got to hand feed them which was a treat…..the cottage was comfortable, and contained everything you needed.
I was happy with everything…
We had the most wonderful time at the cabin, Neil and Joanne are the best hosts you could ever wish for. We arrived late at night and the cabin was easy to locate and the electric blanket was left on for us to snuggle into bed. The starry sky was unforgettable and the cabin nice and cosy. In the morning we woke up to a blissful silence and the site of a herd of alpacas curiously looking towards the cabin as we had a cup of coffee on the decking taking in the beautiful views of the valley. Neil introduced us to the alpacas and the goats and we had the most incredible time feeding them and petting them. The cabin makes the perfect weekend escape from Akl with its perfect location whilst being off the grid and immersed in the bush, we still had full reception and the cabin had everything we needed + supermarket open till 9pm less than 10mins drive
We wish we has stayed longer and can’t wait to get back
The place is amazing! Neil is a great host, so welcoming! I would definitely recommend this place to stay for a nice, quiet and relaxing time!
beautiful slice of NZ rural culture, had everything that was needed with a bonus of animals

Host Neil was lovely, made sure we were comfortable. Peaceful location and we had privacy. My daughter had a great time interacting with the friendly Alpacas and cows. We definitely will come back. Thanks Neil.
Bonus is the alpaca interactions :-)
Loved the fact that the whole unit was suitable for my wheelchair bound husband. The view was incredible. The Alpacas were adorable and very tolerant. And the owner was super friendly and kind.
The double bed was a little bit hard for us but each to his own 😊
Location
Location was great, awesome having the alpacas in the neighbouring rooms paddock, partner was very happy to be able to pet and feed them. Bonus the three baby alpacas. Hosts were genuine and friendly, very accommodating Would definitely stay again
The view from the cabin was exceptional. There was coffee and tea available in the room which was great. The owners offer additional activities on the site like meeting the alpacas and goats on their farm if you are interested. They are also very friendly and happy to give advice on what to see in the area as well as where to grab some great food.
There wasn't much we didn't like - we will be back to stay again!
Absolutely amazing morning walk to see, pet and feed alpacas. Best place we've stayed in NZ! Quiet, beautiful surroundings, great to chilli, highly recommended.
very relaxing
It was beautiful, peaceful, very clean and comfortable
The Waihi Gold Alpacas owners were very welcoming and easy to talk to, the cabin was very clean and bathroom very spacious, we stayed one night and had a tour of the alpaccas and goats in the morning. We even got to feed them, (such a highlight). Waking up was so peaceful we had rolling fog that dissappeared slowly.
Everything. Super nice, sweet modern cabins. You had the entire place to yourself. Super friendly and helpful owner, who offered to pet and feed the lamas. Super view (I guess, cause I had terrible weather :D), nice, big and quit area. Definitely recommend and would like to stay again.
The bathroom is just reachable when you go out of your cabin. A coathanger in the room would help a bit and maybe a little mirror.
The view from the room and bathroom and the animal encounter
There was a personal letter when we checked in and we were invited to feed the alpacas their breakfast. We did this and it was so fun! Our host was really friendly.
Everything!!!
Great little cabin up in the hills. Feeding the Alpacas definitely the draw card, very cute! Very tidy and clean, modern cabin and bathroom. Nice comfy bed and quality linen, pillows etc. Complimentary milk, tea, coffee. All on solar power. Only 5mins either way to Karangahake Walks or Waihi township.
Nice and clean with stunning views and lovely alpacas. The owner was kind and friendly. We enjoyed our stay there a lot. Highly recommend.
