Amazing view, nice staff
Loin de toute l'agitation d'Ella. Endroit magnifique, personnel attentionné, nourriture savoureuse.
Family of 4 stayed in one cottage for one night. Breathtaking views, unique accommodation. Beautiful and friendly, great food.
All great, nothing we didn't like.
The views from the rooms are amazing. The food was homemade and delicious, and the owner was very kind and helpful.
It is a little bit far from town
Gorgeous, peaceful view over the hidden valley. Best sleep ever. Great coffee. I really enjoyed the coffe/tea workshop nearby. You got the clear sense that the whole enterprise involves and enriches the local community with women taking on larger roles. This makes the stay even more pleasant and satisfying.
The VIEW and location are exceptional. You must wake up early ( 5.20 am ) to catch the sunrise but it’s so worth it . The room is comfortable and spacious. It’s 40 mins away from Ella train station but a Tuk Tuk is the best part of the journey with a drive past the waterfall. ❤️
it has amazing view. to rest and to enjoy the nature it is one of the best place. their food is definetly amazing. i love that they have coffee factory in it.
wifi was not working properly, last day they changed and it worked better. and transportation that they arrange 2-3 times more than usual prices🙈
Outstanding Stay English family of five (18,16,14) took two “cottages”. For two nights. Photos can’t do justice to setting. Right up in hills on a tea estate that has not changed hands since 1800s. Feels like you are overlooking your own private valley. Getting up at sunrise to witness the rainforest wake up from your balcony was truly special. Each cottage has its own space and very well appointed and simply but tastefully furnished. Proper retreat with talented chef cooking up delicious dishes. Lovely walks from the doorstep. Beautifully done tea show room and tasting centre two minutes walk away. Super friendly hosts and team. Absolute gem.
Nothing
The first thing that stood out was the beautiful view of the mountains from the room balcony. The balcony and full-length windows face east so the sun rises right across and the morning light fills the room (but there are blackout curtains too). The balcony is great to sit and enjoy the view, especially mornings and evenings. The room itself is spacious, the bed is big and comfortable. We also ate all our meals at Roseland itself and they have a variety of Sri Lankan and western dishes. We ate only Sri Lankan food and all our meals were delicious and like simple home-cooked Sri Lankan food - definitely a plus! Rajiv (the owner) and his wife were very responsive on WhatsApp to our questions. Rajiv and his staff helped us decide on some of the hikes that would suit our preferences and also organized transport. One of the staff familiar with the routes also accompanied us as a guide. The cost was very reasonable too. Roseland is a tea and coffee estate and it was interesting to see their tea and coffee producing process as well as do a tasting of their coffee and different teas - we ended up buying quite a few of them too! They have small factory/production section near the entrance to the property as well and it was nice to smell the wafting fragrance of the teas during our post-dinner walks. Rajiv was very kind in helping us get some money changed without going to the market, and also having our train tickets collected from the train station without us having to go there (train tickets booked online still have to be collected in person prior to traveling), which was a big help and a time saver. Overall it was a very calm and relaxing environment. We stayed there for 4 nights and would love to go back!
Overall we really liked the place and would definitely reccommend it for the price! There are a few things that could greatly improve the experience from an 8 to a 10 - - The WiFi was non-existent while we were there. We were told it was problem with bill payment, but it didn't get sorted during our stay, though I am sure it's a temporary issue. We didn't mind so much as we were happy to disconnect, but something for people to double-check if it's an important criteria. - Cleaning of the rooms wasn't automatic/daily. We requested cleaning on the second day but later found that though the bed was made-up, the room was not actually cleaned. We didn't bother the rest of the days as there was not much dust or dirt in general but would have been nice to have the usual daily cleaning option. - The room furniture/decor is somewhat basic. The bed is big and comfortable. There are two small wooden chairs and a table for the balcony, which are a bit uncomfortable to sit on after a while. Some cushions for them, or a relaxing chair would have greatly improved the balcony. There is a small two-seater couch in the room too but it was not very comfortable to use or we would have loved to use it for the balcony or otherwise to spend more time in the room. - Some furniture option to hang clothes, even if a simple stand with a few hangars for clothes in general would also be welcome. - Some regular white curtains in addition to the blackout curtains would be good to have an option other than no light/full brightness. - Since there is not much else to do on the property and town etc are a drive away, it would be great if there were some board games etc available on the property, or some other activities.
The views from the property are exceptional !! Perfect for a sunrise view from bed or the balcony. Rajiv and team do anything exceptional job and they do have a coffee and tea tasting session
The view was amazing , you could see the sun rise from your bed itself . Every room has an amazing view, the rooms are very clean and the food is amazing. I give Roseland a 10/10
Fantastic hidden gem in the hill country. Astonishing views lovely food and friendly staff. Cannot fault this place
The location is incredible, on the hillside surrounded by trees and great for wildlife spotting. We saw more wildlife species here than we did anywhere else in Sri Lanka. The food was delicious with large portion sizes and the staff were incredibly accommodating with any query or request we had. We really liked spending time up at the restaurant space and exploring the site of the estate on foot.
When booking this accommodation, we had no idea it was part of a beautiful estate with a tea and coffee factory and forest plantation. When we arrived we were not given any information about the site or things to do in the area when this would have been very useful and interesting, as the site is isolated. We learnt about things to do through talking to the staff but it would have been nice to have access to some written information about the history of the estate and things to do. The cottage we stayed in was not well furnished. The balcony is huge but there were no seats or table on the balcony to enjoy the view, we had to move a chaise longue outside to be able to enjoy the space comfortably, which wasn’t very easy. The room was huge but sparsely furnished and poorly arranged, with not enough surfaces to put things on and a small TV that you wouldn’t be able to see from the sofa or bed. A bedside lamp on both sides of the bed, large rug and mosquito net would have been nice.
The view from the room is amazing. I love to be surrounded by nature. The food is excellent and fresh. The owners and staff are so welcoming and will go out of their way to make your stay extra special.
All good!
Breathtaking view of the valleys from each of the rooms/villas As we were staying 5 nights Dinushka (manager) upgraded us to a bigger room with a huge window facing the valley in the shower Food was delicious and the portions were quite large. Our favourite was the pumpkin soup and chicken curry Each of the staff members went above and beyond to make us feel home Dinushka helped us arrange for transport to Diyaluma waterfalls (highly recommended - even better than little Adam’s peak) She also helped us purchase the train tickets (Ella - Nuwara Eliya) and transport to the station
It is definitely secluded, but this is what allows the views to be so amazing
Lovely view. Staff are also nice and the owner is very accommodating.
People visiting should be aware it’s located at a higher altitude hence hybrid cars are not able to climb up. We had trouble reaching to the top on pitch darkness. Our car had to stop thrice as it overheated.
The View from the rooms were fantastic. The route to the location would be a little hard, but it was awesome place ones visit there. The Cottages are very good.
Nothing.

The location and the view from the room was fantastic. Breakfast and Dinner served were very good.
They don't accept card like most places in Srilanka.
Location, food , service, view, everything was good
The cottage was really nice with a beautiful point of view, the stuff was really friendly and helpful. The food was amazing. We could also visit the coffee factory of the owner of the cottages, that was really interesting. We definitely recommend this place.
Best dinner of our Sri Lanka Trip. Quite far from the city of Ella but to have a relaxed day is a super option. The view from the room is amazing, the sun rising is something to absolutely set the alarm for.
The most beautiful place that we been in Serilanka! In the middle of the jungle- magnificent! The most beautiful sunrise ever
The Wi-Fi is not good
The sunrise was BEAUTIFUL. You literally wake up to it. The entire staff was very friendly and accomodating. They hand roast fresh coffee and tea. Their curry was delightful and hit the spot.
“Roseland Cottages” is a place that exceeded my expectation about a hotel / cottage. I was impressed about the stunning natural beauty. You can enjoy the nature without disturbing your eye by artificial objects. I experienced the best hospitality form the staff and compared all my visits, “Roseland Cottages”, is one of the places which I met the extraordinary hospitality and the description on Booking.com is exactly matching when you arrive. I recommend the place to both local and foreign travelers, because it is a valuable experience for you spend.
The location is just magical with the view of the valley and mountains stretching for miles. There are monkeys, giant squirrels and many kinds of birds all around the property. Rajiv and his wife were always in communication with us and provided whatever we asked for. The host and staff at the property were outstanding and helped with my wife's ankle injury. Rajiv also provided a free tour of his coffee factory.
