I liked everything about the property

The property and garden are beautiful. The host is lovely and a great cook!! Rooms are clean, spacious and beds are comfortable.

A wonderful place on the Pekoe Trail, in my opinion, the best possible accommodation along the route. A beautiful garden, delicious food, and an amazing room. And if the owners ever decide to sell the bed, I’m buying it, even if I have to carry it back to Poland in my backpack, piece by piece, by kayak 😀 The atmosphere was fantastic, and the dogs were absolutely lovely. I would have happily stayed for two days, but time was chasing me. I really hope I’ll come back someday.

Es ist ein ganz besonderer Ort. Wenn man die Eingangspforte überschreitet, verlässt man Sri Lanka und tritt ein in einen zauberhaften Garten mit Karpfenteich, Bäumen und Sträuchern, die es mit einem botanischen Garten aufnehmen können. Die Zimmer sind super ausgestattet und super sauber. Wir konnten ein wunderbares Abendessen dazubuchen. Die Gastgeberin eröffnet eine persönliche Begegnung.

Perfect location on the Pekoe trail with fantastic views down the mountain. The accommodation is good quality and very clean. Chandra prepared great meals for us and was a perfect host.

A totally stunning homestay with a most beautiful garden where we were made most welcome by Chandra and Dan- and their friendly dogs. The room itself is a separate building and extremely comfortable and well- equipped, and there is a little kitchen there too. All was beautifully designed and built by Dan and Chandra including the huge garden and terraces filled with trees, fruit and flowers. In the evening we sat and watched the bats and the fireflies. The property is just at the end of the Pekoe trail stage 14 with great views down into the valley- definitely a fabulous break. Chandra cooked us a most delicious evening meal and breakfast including jackfruit and breadfruit which we were keen to try. And we enjoyed hearing about Dan's carpentry skills as we sat chatting in the garden. We wish we had stayed longer!

An absolute gem. Secret garden lives up to it's name, the location is perfect right on the pekoe trail. Chandra is a lovely host, who cooked up a feast for us both for dinner and breakfast, gave us insights into the local food, vegetation and culture. Rooms and bathrooms are clean, comfortable and not damp. We would definitely recommend a stay here. Thank you Chandra and Dan !

Perfect spot after a long hike on the pekoe trail. You can relax in their beautifull garden. Dinner and breakfast were both delicious.

Perfect stop during the Pekoe trail. We had an amazing time with Chandra and her husband. The property is big and very well maintained. The villa is big and very clean. The garden is simply amazing with birds and ponds just to chill and relax after a hike. Dinner and breakfast were amazing, the best we had in Sri Lanka. Truly authentic local food with local ingredients. I truly recommend this place.

If you have problems with dogs (we don’t) there are 3 dogs in the property.

Location- Excellent location for stage 14 & 15 of the Pekoe Trail. It is also surrounded by beautiful sceneries.. -beautifully maintained garden - about 8 km to Bandarawela town and close to Ella too. Host- chandra and Dan- the owners, are a lovely couple .. great hosts … they live in the same compound ( separate house) and attend to all needs of yours .. we were treated with tasty meals cooked by Chandra 🩷 ( I was lucky to get the experience of cooking with her in her lovely kitchen ) Rooms were very clean Though we went in august which is the hot season in Sri Lanka , the climate was very cool. We could sleep even without fans .

Wonderful, peaceful place right on the Pekoe trail. Lovely, chatty hosts. Good food and lovely surroundings. The most expensive place we stayed in Sri Lanka

Gorgeous room overlooking a beautiful garden right on the Pekoe Trail. We had such a relaxing stay and loved the outdoor seating area as well as the comfy bed. The hosts are lovely and we enjoyed having dinner with them. Breakfast and dinner were both amazing!

Not big issues but things that other visitors should bear in mind: - Very expensive compared to other stays in Sri Lanka. The final bill had a few extra charges that weren't previously mentioned, including a service charge of $7 and a booking.com charge. Unclear what the service charge included that wasn't covered under the advertised room price - Dinner and breakfast are $6 or $7 USD pp - both delicious but just make sure you have enough cash for this. - There are three large dogs on the property. They were mostly friendly but if you're nervous around dogs this is maybe not the right place for you.

This was an exceptional find right on the Pekoe trail at Makulella. beautiful rooms, excellent dinner and breakfast with hosts Chandra and Dan. They have turned their property into a small garden paradise! Great for trail walkers. Thank you for our stay and for sharing your stories.

The hostess and her husband were very welcoming and great to spend time with. Not only do they have heaps of knowledge about the surroundings. In addition, they are also great listeners and conversationalists

If you are afraid of dogs, this place might not be for you. Though they are very kind dogs and they will for sure be put in their cage if you show any indications of being afraid of them.

Felt like home, very welcoming. Clean, comfortable room with private outdoor sitting area.

The property is the couple’s home, built by them with incredible woodwork and a spectacular garden. She has recently turned it into accommodation and clearly loves cooking for guests and sharing stories of their life.

We were quoted $56.00 by Booking.com for the room but paid $82.00. We were in a hurry to get going so I didn’t ask for a price breakdown, I’m assuming the difference is due to the meals (breakfast and dinner) which were great, but also the most expensive we’ve had here.

The hosts were amazing. We enjoyed so much their stories and amazing cuisine. One of the best curries I ate in Sri Lanka. Their garden is like paradise. Hopefully one day we will come back. Take care 🙏🏻

Secret PARADISE! Ideal for Pekoe Trail walkers. Lovely hospitality and a virtual botanical garden of plants and birds. Highly recommended.
