Rock Castle Residency is a great place to stay. Excellent location, very nice helpful people and fantastic comfortable rooms. Breakfast is good, could be better but food for lunch and dinner is very tasteful. Gonbo is very friendly and has a good tast of humor. And does arrange trips around Ladak that are near perfect.

Abbiamo soggiornato alla Rock Castle per diversi giorni di pausa in mezzo ai nostri trekking in giro per il Ladakh e ci siamo sentiti a casa. Tutto lo staff è simpatico e disponibile a dare consigli riguardo alle varie attività da fare. La colazione è ottima e anche la cena cucinata con le verdure dell'orto.

la struttura è ottima, in una zona leggermente decentrata di Leh dove si può dormire tranquillamente senza clacson o cani. stanze molto ampie, alcune molto belle, con un rapporto qualità prezzo ottimo. Il vero plus è il supporto di Gonbo e della sua famiglia nell'organizzazione di ogni attività, dai trekking ai giri con autista. siamo stati 6 notti e l'abbiamo usato come campo base per la nostra esplorazione del Ladakh, davvero bravi.

Les chambres sont spacieuses et très propres. Salle de bain avec eau chaude et de la pression. Literie confortable et pas trop ferme. Au calme tout en étant à 5mn à pied du centre de Leh. Privilégier les chambres avec balcon, les meilleures.

Le petit dej est un peu limité en choix mais franchement ça passe

CONSIGLIATISSIMO! FANTASTICO! Il posto è stupendo, comodo, pulito e igienico. La colazione aveva anche caffè italiano e Nutella. Gonbo é una persona stupenda, simpatica e sempre disponibile, ci ha organizzato diverse uscite (con driver e scooter) senza mai provare a fregarci (come fanno nel resto dell’India). Per concludere la cena è stata la ciliegina sulla torta. Il cibo più buono che abbiamo mangiato in tutta Leh (consiglio piatti tipici del Ladakh). Spero di ritornarci presto.

The staff was always on hand to help out or just to chat. Very friendly. The guesthouse was about 10 mins from Leh market, so pretty close. My room was fairly quiet, not too much outside noise coming through, some dogs barking but this is India. The food was always top notch, good breakfast great dinners. I'm looking forward to coming back in the near future. 10/10.

We stayed at the hotel and also booked a 4 day trip through Gonbo to Nubra, Turtuk, and Pangong. Everything was great. Especially Gonbo and the hotel staff - they were all so kind and helpful.

The host was warm and welcoming. Gonbo arranged all the permits and a courteous, safe and friendly driver to go around Ladakh. Recommend to stay here if you are in Leh.

This is truly the best place to stay in Leh. On our last day, because of an unexpected situation, we ended up coming back to Rick Castle Residency and we’re so glad we did. They have two adorable, friendly white dogs that make you feel right at home. The hot shower has excellent water pressure, the towels and bedding are spotless, and the rooms are very clean. The whole property is peaceful and quiet, with large floor-to-ceiling windows that let in plenty of natural light. The breakfast is delicious and changes from day to day, which we really appreciated. Most importantly, the staff are incredibly kind and helpful. They gave us lots of useful local information and went out of their way to assist us whenever we needed. This was one of our favorite places in Leh, and we couldn’t recommend it more highly!

Exceptionnel Accueil très chaleureux Ils sont là pour vous aider Personnellement j'avais demandé d'organiser un road trip. Lors de notre circuit on a eu un problème sur la route, éboulement et route coupée, impossible de continuer donc nous étions obligés de prendre un hôtel sur place. Donc on a eu une nuitée supplémentaire à payer car l'autre hôtel prévu ne voulait pas nous rembourser. Pour compenser cette perte, le patron de l'hôtel Castel nous a offert une nuitée gratuite à notre retour à Leh. C'est très gentil de sa part. Je vous recommande cet hôtel car il est très bien placé et surtout très propre et le top c'est la gentillesse du personnel. Pour terminer, un petit restaurant très sympa

Helpful and friendly staff who helped us even when we forgot to obtain a permit for the next part of our trip. Lovely room with balcony and only a short walk from the centre of town.

There is some noise from the road and barking dogs at night. Closing the door and using the ceiling fan mostly masked this. This will apply to nearly all places near central Leh.

Very limited option in food, they set up buffet for dinner but only had a cauliflower aloo sabji dal and rice for vegetarian, the sabji was almost finished with few potatoes remaining, also heater charges are additional 500 in the room which does not even heat the room at all as the room is too big .

It is the third time that I go back to these areas of India and every time I stay in this hotel. The reason is simple, I feel at home, as if I were in Italy. Gonbo and his staff are very helpful people for every single need and request, they are very smiling. You can eat both local and western and prepare it for you on the spot. The rooms are huge and always spotless. The common areas are well furnished and tidy. The novelty of this year: the Italian coffee machine. I will definitely return even a fourth time, this place gives peace and tranquility. Thanks guys, you are special

Hospitality and cleanliness

I had an absolutely exceptional stay at Rock Castle. Rigzin and Gongbo were some of the best hosts I’ve ever encountered in my travels. They helped me plan all my travels in Ladakh, from bike rental to stays elsewhere, and did it all with genuine care and a smile. Gongbo also just got a sweet espresso machine that makes a killer latte. They served breakfast everyday, stored my stuff when I left, the room itself is really nice and there are lots of chill areas. It’s only a short distance to the main market too.

Des chambres spacieuses et lumineuses. Plusieurs terrasses et jardin pour se reposer et se détendre. L'ensemble du personnel est tres sympathique et toujours plein de bonnes attentions pour que le séjour se passe au mieux. Un tres bon petit déjeuner et possibilité de déjeuner et dîner sur place. Gonbo le propriétaire est tres disponible et de tres bon conseil pour vous aider a organiser votre séjour a Leh. Une tres bonne adresse pour séjourner a Leh!

The location is great for getting right downtown. The room was large . Good A/C. The shower was good and they have toiletries provided. I always appreciate a kettle and coffee in the room with a mini fridge. Was able to have laundry done. They helped us arrange a taxi to the airport when we left with a good driver.

My only negative is you are on a somewhat busy road. It’s not noisy in the middle of the night but once traffic starts moving in the morning you will hear some cars.

The (rather narrow) road to center is annoying at certain times. But that appears to be a common problem in Leh.

It was really a pleasant stay, the property was very tidy, well managed and the staff was absolutely fantastic, very helpfull with arranging a taxi, tourist permits or even providing a landry. Absolutely recommended!

Rock castle is the perfect place in Leh as base camp to visit Ladakh - The location is great, close to market as well as the castle and monastery , rooms are spacious and comfortable - The restaurant procides great meals at affordable prices - There is a nice garden to relax by the end of the day and above everything wonderful staff is always ready to accomodate and help the guests

Normally, I don't write reviews, but our stay with Gonbo and his wonderful team was so unforgettable I just had to share! From the moment we arrived, we felt incredibly welcome and completely taken care of. Whether it was helping us with permits, booking taxis, or just giving us great tips for hiking and souvenirs—they were always there to help. ​The rooms were not only super cozy and well-designed but also spotlessly clean, which we really appreciated. Breakfast was delicious, and the lunches and dinners were consistently fantastic, often made with fresh ingredients straight from their own garden. ​The location was absolutely perfect for us: close enough to town to get around easily, yet wonderfully quiet with a cooler, more comfortable climate. Plus, you can hike straight from the guesthouse up to Tsemo Castle for an amazing view of the entire city. ​Honestly, Gondo and his lovely team far exceeded our expectations. Très bon accueil et écoute. Chambre spacieuse et jardin agréable autour de la résidence. Un espace salon de jardin permet d en profiter et d etre au frais. Vous pouvez aussi partir en ballade pour vous acclimater vers le nord de leh.

Loved the host! I got altitude sickness the first day and the owner shuttled me to the hospital and helped throughout the process. Cannot be more grateful for their hospitality. Also the shower temperature/pressure were great.

We had a great stay at Rock Castle. The rooms are huge and very comfortable, breakfast is delicious, drinking water is available 24/7. Stairs to go up to Tsemo Castle are really close and Leh market is at only 10min walking distance. Most of all, the owner Tsewang was of great help to plan our trip in Ladakh!

What a wonderful place! The whole place is well run. The staff are the most helpful, friendly, and obliging that we have met in India. The rooms are large, light and airy. The bed is large and comfortable with fresh white linen. There are bedside tables and bed lamps. The bathroom is large and very clean. The water pressure is excellent, and the water temperature is hot. Breakfast is served in a lovely dining room with a good selection of food to choose from. Other meals are available if required and are prepared by a chef. There is a lovely garden to sit and relax in also. All in all, this property is worthy of a high commendation. Congratulations to the owner and management.

It's a perfect hideaway in the middle of busy Leh. The rooms are spacious and clean, with a nice view into the garden. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful with everything. We're very grateful!

We had an amazing experience at Gonbo’s property, it felt like home away from home. The cleanliness and all the amenities provided like heating, spacious rooms, clean and nice washrooms. On top of that warm and good quality food. Their staff Naveen and Matilda took good care of us. Gonbo is a great guy and knows the region very well, he went out of his way to make sure we get what we need, like arranging the bike and taxi for us. The location of the hotel is great, it’s peaceful and has a great view of the mountains and Leh palace. Accessible from the main market and all the sightseeing spots

Clean spacious room, beautiful view

Rooms and bathrooms are very spacious and clean. Rooms have fans too, which was necessary for me in the month of Aug. Breakfast was simple, in-house dining option is available too. The owner was very helpful, he shared info and helped me plan my trip itinerary, helped me book cabs too. Hotel is located about 10-15 mins walk from the market, which is a little bit of a climb while coming back from the market.

I liked the large rooms, I liked the staff, I liked breakfast, I liked their filtered water, and I also loved the view. Almost all the decks have a view of Stok Kangri and the surrounding mountains. The garden is also very lovely, and it is pleasant to be on the property surrounded by the tall trees. When you arrive, the hosts typically offer coffee and biscuits which is very pleasant after a flight or long journey to Leh. The Rock Castle is conveniently located to city center and it’s no more than a 10 minute walk downhill to reach all the shops and dining. The way back home is uphill, but isn’t too bad and is a nice way to get in shape/acclimatize for your time in Leh. The Rock Castle is extremely close to the trailhead to Namgyal Tsemo and surprisingly close to Shanti Stupa which is across town. The staff at the Rock Castle is second to none. The owner, GonKhar, is around and amenable to any requests you have. He has excellent dinner and shop recommendations and we also found out that he runs a trekking company from the hotel- we definitely would have used them if we did a more advanced hike than Markha Valley. The rest of the staff carried out suitcases to our room, made breakfast, and even offered same day laundry! As for the rooms, they are spacious and the beds are comfortable. The rooms also have large bathrooms with a lot of hot water for showering!

This is a hard question because everything was perfect. I had one cold shower but that was because the hotel was full and I tried to take it late at night. Obviously the solar water heaters work best in the day. The WiFi also could have been stronger in our room, but all we had to do was step outside to a balcony or hallway. It’s good to disconnect.

Location and staff

We enjoyed every bit of our stay at RCR! Gonbo and his family were super friendly, hospitable and helped us out with everything. He knows the area and will help you the best he can even in situations of distress. If you don’t feel like walking too far in the evening, one of his staff members cooks really good food with vegetables out of their garden. Ps. The beautiful garden is a nice place to rest and read if you become ill in Ladakh, we speak out of experience ;)

We stayed at Castle Rock Residency for four nights in August. We couldn't speak more highly of the friendly and responsive staff. The location is just a short 10 minute walk into Leh market. We stayed in a balcony room which had views over Leh Palace and Tsemo Hill castle. There is a walk to the castle starting next door to the property and is highly recommended for a sunset trek (20 min).

I experienced no illness from eating the hotel cuisine. The staff were always friendly and helpful. The wi-fi worked consistently.
