The Cattleya Guest House Sigiriya

Mooi verblijf vooral als echt in het hart van Sigirya, cultuur en andere toeristische attracties wilt verblijven. Vlakbij Lions rock, je kunt je er in een paar minuten naartoe laten rijden in de vroege ochtend en terug zelfs te lopen, als je nog pit hebt :-) De host is erg betrokken en helpt je met wat je wilt zien of ontdekken. Weet je veel te vertellen over Sri Lanka’s highlights. Heerlijk met zorg bereid ontbijt door de familie.

Had a great 2 night stay at Cattleya Guest House! The room was large, clean, comfortable and in a very peaceful setting overlooking the garden. The home cooked breakfast was delicious! Asoka was a lovely host and even self-delivered a forgotten item to us in Dambulla after we left. Would definitely recommend staying here!

Amazing place close to Sigiriya surrounded by nature. The owner and all the staff hosted us warmly. Good breakfast made with local food and fresh fruit, I think one of the best we ever had in Sri Lanka.

Zeer fijn ontvangst en gastvrijheid. Ontbijt was goed verzorgd. De eigenaar is een hele vriendelijke man die het je helemaal naar de zin wilt maken. Wij reizen zelf met de tuktuk en bij vertrek ging hij onze tuktuk nog een beetje poetsen en kregen we een souveniertje van hem. Top!

Location is fab, the owner was so kind and helpful. Super close to Lions Rock - walking distance. We organised a day out with him to Polonnaruwa and an Elephant Safari that was incredible all for a very reasonable price. The breakfast that was offered was also delicious! Highly recommend staying here.

Die Familie war ein wunderbarer Gastgeber und sehr bemüht um Komfort! Die zwei Zimmer liegen mit dem Blick in den grünen Garten und sind super ausgestattet. Wir wurden sehr herzlich empfangen und beratschlagt mit Unternehmungen/ TukTuk-Fahrten oder Massagen. Der Besitzer war allzeit ansprechbar und sehr freundlich. Leider konnten wir keinen Elefanten beobachten, aber dafür einige Affen. Die Unterkunft ist sehr zentral gelegen, man erreicht Restaurants in der Nähe ohne Probleme zu Fuß.

Die Unterkunft ist sehr schön gelegen und sauber. Abends kann man sehr gut auf der Terrasse sitzen und wenn man Glück hat sogar einen Elefanten sehen. Der Gastgeber ist sehr nett und super zuvorkommend. Auch das Frühstück war sehr lecker. Wir würden jederzeit wieder kommen und finden es schade, nur eine Nacht dort verbracht zu haben.

Not sure if it is a booking.com problem or individual guesthouses but when you book a place that says " No credit card needed", this often changes to "cash only " on the confirmation when it is too late to cancel. Cash only is fine, but it would be best to make it clear before people book in order to avoid confusion afterwards.

Mr. Asoka il proprietario è di una gentilezza estrema, la gestione familiare aggiunge qualità a questa piccola struttura immersa nel verde. La stanza è comoda e spaziosa, letto grande, in bagno ci sono tutti i prodotti necessari, phon e asciugamani candidi. Nel giardino c'è un'amaca e si sentono gli uccellini e si vedono le scimmie ogni tanto. La colazione locale è squisita, ci hanno proposto anche alternative non speziate. Bisogna ascoltare bene la spiegazione su come funziona l'acqua calda per la doccia.

Purtroppo non abbiamo potuto assaggiare la loro cena, peccato perché avevamo letto dalle altre recensioni quanto fosse buona. Siamo andati a mangiare lì vicino e non è stato il top.

What a fabulous stay!!! We had such a lovely stay at Cattleya Guest House and would absolutely recommend it. The rooms are large, spacious and clean, and back onto a beautiful garden filled with wildlife - such a peaceful setting to come back to after a day exploring. Asoka’s hospitality was excellent and made the whole stay feel incredibly warm and welcoming. He really does make you feel more like a guest in his home than a traveller passing through. He was also so helpful in organising our tuk tuk for an early morning walk up Lion’s Rock, which made everything wonderfully easy. And the breakfast - honestly, so delicious. Easily the best we’ve had during our travels around Sri Lanka. Thank you so much for having us, we’d happily stay again in a heartbeat!

The bed was extremely confortable and the bedroom super clean.

Really comfortable room and incredible breakfast each morning served looking out over the beautiful garden. Asoka was kind and really helpful, in particular arranging trips to the national park and Polonnaruwa for us and helping us book taxis even after we'd left Sigiriya.

Very handle location close to Lion Rock and restaurant. The rooms were very quiet with a tranquil garden away from the road. The owner was extremely helpful and helped us with anything we needed including cars to and from Sigiriya. I would definitely recommend.

This charming guesthouse is on the main road in Sigiriya but set back, so no road noise. It is backed onto a lovely garden with so much nature! Breakfast was amazing, as was the dinner we ate there. Can't recommend enough. Thank you, Asoka!

Wir haben uns von Anfang an willkommen und herzlich aufgenommen gefühlt. Asoka hatte uns im Rahmen eines begrüßungsdrinks gleich über mögliche Aktivitäten informiert und uns einen Ausflug organisiert. Der Garten war toll und wir konnten so viel spannende Tiere beobachten :) Das Frühstück das wir bekommen haben war einfach überragend und mit viel Liebe zubereitet. Wir kommen gerne wieder 😊

Staying at Asoka's charming guesthouse was one of the highlights of our Sri Lanka trip. Perfectly situated just a short distance from the iconic Sigiriya Rock, the location couldn't be more convenient for exploring the area. What truly set this stay apart was our host, Asoka. From the moment we arrived, he made us feel completely at ease, sharing thoughtful tips tailored to our itinerary, along with fascinating stories and historical insights about Sigiriya that genuinely enriched our visit. His warmth and genuine care for his guests is something you simply can't put a price on. And the breakfast? Absolutely outstanding. Asoka's home-cooked meals were full of flavour and prepared with such love and attention, easily a 10/10. It was the kind of breakfast that sets you up for the day with a smile.

We have zero complaints with our stay

This guest house is in a great location just a few minutes walk from local restaurants and a short tuk tuk ride to the rock. You can also walk back from the rock when you get down - it takes about 20 minutes. The host family were exceptional. They arranged for a car to take us around Polonuwara and drive us to our next stop in Ella. The breakfast was fantastic with juice, fruit, eggs, roti and Dahl. The room itself was very clean and the shower great, the bed also bed very comfortable. Honestly couldn’t recommend this more.

Nothing! Only a short warning for people who don’t already know that there are monkeys all over Sri Lanka and you might see some during your breakfast in which case we would recommend a pair of flip flops to scare them away.

My husband and 2 daughters loved everything about this property, which more than lived up to the well deserved excellent reviews. There are two cottages side by side which suited us perfectly. The rooms and bathrooms are large with a shady seating area in front of each where a fantastic home cooked Sri Lankan breakfast is served while enjoying the wildlife in Asoka’s beautifully cared for garden. Asoka is a lovely man who cares for his home and garden immaculately and we very much enjoyed learning about all the animals and birds who drop by .. the monkeys can be very mischievous! If you’re lucky, you’ll see an elephant wandering past the end of his garden, but sadly, we didn’t! Do not miss the opportunity to stay at Asoka’s place if you can!

Ein wunderschönes Guesthouse welches von einer sehr hilfsbereiten und gastfreundlichen Familie betrieben wird. Als alleinreisende Frau habe ich mich sehr sicher gefühlt. Das Zimmer ist wunderschön und war sehr sauber. Ein tolles Erlebnis vielen Dank.

The guesthouse was very peaceful, our outdoor seating area looking onto the garden and jungle. The owner Ashoka was beyond helpful when we had a problem , our gratitude to him and his sister Gina. We had 2 delicious home cooked meals, the breakfasts were very generous and Ashoka was very helpful organising day trips and an ongoing driver.

Wir hatten einen großartigen Aufenthalt im Cattleya Guest House in Sigiriya. - Das Frühstück war unglaublich lecker und sehr reichhaltig – typisch sri-lankisch und mit viel Liebe zubereitet. - Unser Zimmer war groß, sehr sauber und bot alles, was wir brauchten. - Die Unterkunft liegt ruhig, mit einem schönen Blick in den Garten – ideal zum Entspannen nach Ausflügen. Ein besonderes Lob an unseren Gastgeber Ashoka: Er ist äußerst zuvorkommend und denkt wirklich mit. Da für unseren ursprünglichen Safaritag Regen vorhergesagt war, hat er die Tour kurzerhand umgebucht. Die Safari selbst war fantastisch – fragt ihn unbedingt, wo man aktuell die meisten Tiere sehen kann! Auch seine Tipps für Ausflüge in die Umgebung waren super hilfreich. Fazit: Unsere beste Unterkunft auf der gesamten Reise – absolut empfehlenswert

Le stanze sono grandi e confortevoli e anche il letto, c’è un bello spazio fuori in giardino. L’host è molto disponibile e anche la colazione è stata ottima. La camera è immerso nella natura , vicino al Lion’s rock e alle attrazioni di Sigiriya. Lo consigliamo.

Immerso nella giungla, colazione con il cinguettio degli uccellini. Per 3 sere di fila, alcuni elefanti sono entrati nel giardino ed è stato molto emozionante vederli a pochissimi metri da noi. La oersona che si occupa della guest house è deliziosa, molto dolce e premuroso. Ci ha fatto sentire davvero bene, come se fossimo a casa. Ci ha accompagnato la mattina alle 5.30 a scakare la roccia, non voleva andassimo da sole. Si mangia molto bene. Lo consigliamo davvero a tutti

Ashoka ist einer der freundlichsten und warmherzigsten Menschen, die wir auf Reisen getroffen habe. Bereits im Vorfeld arrangierte er für uns eine Fahrt spät abends vom Flughafen nach Sigiriya und blieb mit uns bis zur Ankunft in Kontakt, sodass wir stets ein sicheres Gefühl hatten. Das Apartment ist spartanisch aber liebevoll eingerichtet und sehr sauber. Das Frühstück ist großartig und bietet eine große Vielfalt. Ashoka gestaltete mit uns, unseren Tag in Sigiriya und fuhr uns spontan zu einem Tempel. Wir hatten eine tolle Zeit!

We had a wonderfull time in Sigiriya. Staying at The Cattleya Guest House was great. The rooms are spacious and clean. The breakfast was delicious with traditional dishes, fresh fruit and juices. Also the hosts where amazing as they gave recommendations about where to go and arranged taxis, safaris and tuktuks for us. Would definitely recommend staying here!

Beautiful and comfortable room which was spotlessly clean. Very kind and helpful owners. A short distance away from lion's rock, the owner drove us there early in the morning and we were able to walk back. Delicious breakfast served on our patio. Beautiful gardens, was amazing to relax in the hammocks after the climb up the rock. Restaurants and shops in walking distance.

Our room had a lovely open garden where elephants roam at night; with a beautiful hammock for softer moments during the day. Our host was incredibly kind and helpful to lift us to sigiriya rock for our sunrise hike. Bed was comfortable, shower warm. Walking distance to main points of sigiriya rock and main road.

Every detail of my stay was so thoughtfully considered – from the beautiful surroundings to the impeccable service, everything was truly 10/10. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed with such warmth and kindness that I instantly felt like part of the family. As a solo traveler, feeling safe and cared for is everything, and this place delivered that in every way. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and it was clear that so much love and attention goes into every aspect of the experience. I feel incredibly lucky to have stayed here and can’t recommend it highly enough. It’s a special kind of place that stays with you long after you’ve left.

Amazing big room. Good shower, nice bed. Massive and great breakfast. Super friendly hosts that help arrange whatever you would need. Nice garden with monkeys, but they don't come bother you. Nice location. Close to Lion Rock and a lot of restaurants in the direct neighbourhood.

First of all: The accommodation is top! Very nice accommodation, modern, very new air conditioning. The view from the room's own terrace is into the beautiful garden. You can see Lions Rock directly from the garden. The in-house breakfast is sumptuous and excellent. Many of the fruits and vegetables come directly from the family's garden. What we particularly liked was the host Ashoka, who fulfilled all our wishes, organized every trip and excursion for us and had many contacts. For example, we went on a great night hike to the Loris at very reasonable prices. We also had a great safari where we saw lots of elephants. We always had friendly and reliable cab drivers / tuktuk drivers organized by Ashoka! All in all, we felt at home and were sad that we hadn't booked more nights. The accommodation is truly a hidden gem! We will definitely be back! Help was also offered for the rest of our trip and we were given some tips and trips were organized. Many thanks for everything!

The quality of the accomodation is simply sensational. The location, view, comfort, cleanliness, breakfast, attention to detail are top notch. You can see the rock from the garden. Ashoka is the most welcoming and caring host. The breakfast on the patio was really special as monkeys and mongoose paid the visit. :) Totally recommended!

All was perfect.

Ashoka was a fantastic host, very kind and considerate, with lots of helpful suggestions of things to do and support with organising transport. Would really recommend climbing Pidurangala rock at sunrise - the views were beautiful. Dinner on our second night was cooked by Ashoka’s daughter and was really lovely. The room itself was good, with a really big and comfortable bed. Unfortunately the air conditioning was broken on our arrival which meant that the room was sometimes uncomfortably warm. Ashoka provided a fan and did everything he could to get the air conditioning fixed as soon as possible - we think that a new air conditioning unit was being installed on the day we left, so hopefully this won’t be a problem for the next travellers. The host kindly gave us a discount as we did not have AC.

- One room was very smelly, the WIFI wasn’t working, the air condition did the job but could be stronger. + The rooms were private, facing a garden. The owner was kind and drove us to the Sigiriya Lions Rock for our sunrise hike for free.

Asoka was incredibly polite and helpful. He helped with recommendations and also hooked us up with a great safari for Eco Lodge. The property is run as a BnB by a family, has a lush green view from the room and the patio and is super clean and comfortable. Breakfast was traditional and plenty for us anyway. There's parking on-site as well. Total recommend. The only thing I would improve is a small partition for the bathroom shower area.

This is a top quality place to stay. The owners take great pride in hosting well and are very attentive. The breakfasts in the morning (extra charge) are superb and delivered to your balcony. The gardens are beautiful and very well kept. We had monkeys observing our every move over breakfast - watch your fruit! Two nights before us, wild elephants were seen in the garden. The owners organised TukTuk rides and our safari tickets for us. The facilities were very modern and clean (there are just two rooms on site, so it is truely a home stay). The stay was very relaxing, I could not recommend it more.

Lovely filling breakfast. Kindness and helpfulness of the owners. Location was great for visiting all the local tourist sites. Ashoka organised everything for us.. taxi from airport, trips to dambulla cave temple, Polonnaruwa, jeep safari to see elephants in eco park, lion rock, the other one, taxi to next accommodation too. All good prices and very enjoyable. They make amazing pineapple smoothies too. Also veranda and garden very pleasant to just sit on and watch nature.

Amazing Stay with a wonderful host! Everything about our stay was perfect! Mr. Ashok was very nice and helpful, making us feel right at home. The room was clean and cozy, and the view of Sigiriya rock from the garden was breathtaking. The highlight was the breakfast - the best we've had in all our years of travelling. The variety, the warmth put into it was special. Mr. Ashok also helped us arrange cars for our visit to Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa. If you are visiting Sigiriya, stay at Cattleya!

We had a wonderful stay in Sigiriya at Cattleya guest house. Great location, amazing food (both dinner and breakfast) and the owner was so helpful and generous throughout our stay. Thoroughly recommend!

Very lukewarm warm water from shower, sink only had cold water. Bathroom was a wet room so after a shower to use toilet feet got wet. Host knew 2 people staying yet only one pair of flip flops and one robe. Breakfast was not very good. Not cooked fresh, the worst egg hopper I’ve had. Room was basic.

Exceptional breakfast including roti, hoppers, pancake and lavaria… plus fruit and juice. Excellent location and big room. Ashoka was the perfect host.

Room is big, clean and comfortable. Really good bed. Garden where you can see alle kinds of animals is amazing (even elephants come to the garden at some nights and it's not allowed to go to the garden at night. One elephant came when we were there!). Home made sri lankan breakfast is tasty and plentiful. Host family is super nice and warm. We liked the location just few minutes walk away from the main area of Sigiriya village. There is also few restaurants (S.L. Cafe has really good food) / cafes / bars right next to the accommodation, so it's really convinient and you dont' even need to walk to the main areas of the village in the evening, If you don't feel like.

Everything about the property was wonderful, it was a very comfortable stay. It was close to many restaurants and the lion rock walk. The host was great and very helpful! He helped us arrange many excursions and taxis. We even arrived late at 9pm and he prepared a meal for us. There was constant contact throughout, even up until our next place. Would recommend!

Our best stay in Sri Lanka. We have been to more luxury hotels, but nobody came near to Ashoka and family's hospitality and friendliness. Also, his daughter's cooking skills are great. It was the best breakfast we've had in Sri Lanka. We've also been helped with our itinerary as well, which made the stay very easy.

We loved th clean, spacious room and garden view. We only stayed one night but woke up and enjoyed coffee while monkeys and Langurs hung out in the garden. There is a little view of Sigiriya rock from the garden as well. It was very walkable and close to everything we needed. Hosts were kind and very helpful.

The guest house was incredibly clean and comfortable. It backs onto a beautiful lush garden with jungle beyond. There is a patio to eat breakfast at each morning which we really enjoyed. Ashoka and his family provided the most incredible hospitality and warmly welcomed us to Sigiriya. Ashoka assisted with arranging our transport, organised outings in the local area and gave us advice about what to see and do in Sigiriya and beyond. The drivers he organised for us were also excellent. We had dinner at the guest house one night which was prepared by Ashoka’s daughter - this was without a doubt the best meal we’ve had in Sri Lanka so far. The location was perfect being just away from the centre of town in a quiet spot, while still being on the doorstep of Lion Rock and other landmarks.
