Filomena was a perfect host - Charming and helpful in every way. She made us feel very welcome to her lovely home. Peaceful location with some wonderful sunset views. Breakfast was tasty and fresh each morning. The Quinta was even better than the photos, decoration in a traditional style and super clean and pretty. Small number of rooms made it more personal and friendly. Great location for access to the city and touring around the island, whilst feeling quiet and relaxed. Nearby town of Ribiera Brava handy for eating and drinking.

We had a wonderful stay at Quinta do Cabouco and can recommend it 100%. From the moment we arrived, the host- Filomena was incredibly helpful, kind, and attentive. Our room was very spacious and came with a beautiful view that instantly made us feel relaxed. A special highlight was the bathtub in the room—perfect for unwinding after a day of hiking. Breakfast was also great . Everything felt fresh, generous, and lovingly prepared: freshly cooked eggs, a selection of cold cuts and cheese, avocado straight from the tree, seasonal fruit, and a local cake specialty. Delicious and more than enough to start the day. And then there’s the terrace: a fantastic sun-soaked terrace with gorgeous flowers, where we loved spending time whenever we came back. After long hikes, returning to Quinta do Cabouco- was a wonderful end of the day sitting on the terrace. As a bonus, there’s a family-run restaurant nearby for dinner—Bar O Cacador- amazingly tasty and more affordable than in Ribeira Brava. Overall, this place is a true gem: welcoming, comfortable, relaxing, and perfectly located for an unforgettable stay in Madeira
Fantastisk fint sted!

Minute an willkommen.
What an incredible hotel! We stayed here and from the minuite we walked in, we loved it. Filomena greeted us with maderian cake and wine. The house is a little haven with birds sounds, fresh avocados from the garden and freshly squeezed orange juice. Filomena is an excellent host and it is clear she takes great pride is ensuring each stay is very special with attention to small detail. The house was impeccably clean with a very comfortable bed. We would highly recommend this place and we are looking forward to returning in the future!
Nothing!

The accommodation is excellent for those looking for a peaceful environment, a great location, and a personal approach. It offers beautiful views and a very convenient location for travelling around the island. The owner is very pleasant and kind.
This is a beautiful house and garden, with huge charm and every comfort. Filomena is a wonderful and welcoming host, greeting all her guests with Madeira cake and wine! Breakfast is exceptional. There is a guest kitchen so that it is possible to have supper on the patio with an amazing sea view!
It’s a beautiful period house, the owner gives a warm welcome to her home. She has lovingly furnished her property. The garden and home have a feeling of care about them . Our room and en suite bathroom, were beautiful. Light and airy, with an amazing view. It was very peaceful , with plenty of places to sit in the house or garden. The breakfast was delicious. Good coffee, homemade jam , and different exotic fruits. And more!! She adjusted the menu to suit our diet.
It was all lovely. You do need to hire a car. ( and sat nav!!)
We absolutely loved this beautiful house with so much character. The location was perfect, peaceful and quiet, away from the crowds, with an amazing view of the ocean. Filomena, the amazing hostess, greeted us with a tasty Madeiran treat, which was a sweet touch. The place was spotless. If you're looking to escape the craziness of everyday life and just relax, this is the spot. There’s private parking, but the driveway can be a bit tricky to get into for unexperienced drivers.
Our annual leave was too short.
Everything was fabulous! The owner was so nice I can’t even tell you! Definitely recommend this property to everyone if they want to have a fabulous stay in Madeira.
Very clean, vintage looking, great view, great services, great value for money.
Property entrance driveway a bit steep, but many roads in Madeira are like that.
Desayuno variado y abundante.
Nada
Rust, fraai ingericht, uitgebreid ontbijt, lieve gastvrouw
Einfach alles. Die Ruhe, die Ausstattung, das Frühstück….👌👌👌👌
Our host, Filomena made our stay truly comfortable. The property is a traditional house in Madeira with a beautiful garden and view over the coastline. The breakfast was great with eggs, cheese, ham, fruits and cakes. The place is further away from the hustle and bustle of Funchal, it is a hidden gem perfect for familirs and couples who look for tranquility. It also has parking for a few cars.
The driveway to the private parking area is a bit tricky, however experienced drivers will not have any problems with is. I recommend renting a medium size car (smaller cars are also better for the narrow streets). Our room was perfect with a beautiful balcony, however I recommend this room to couples since the lack of privacy in the bathroom area. (We managed it, however I know that some people find it stressful.)
Everything was great, the gorgeous quinta, the room, the breakfast.

From the moment we arrived on Sunday until our last breakfast this morning, we enjoyed every moment of our stay. A peaceful house, with nice bedroom and lovely garden/terrace Very warm welcome from Filomena our hostess at arrival, she is happy to share information, stories and accommodate your needs Great breakfast on the commonTV. The well fitted kitchen allowed us to have quiet diner on the terrace watching sun set on the sea. Highly recommend for a week stay. Thanks a lot
It was a honour to be guest in this beautiful house. Lady Filomena has tried to make a heaven on earth and wants to share that with us. I liked specifically all the comfortable places to sit both indoors and outside. On the balcony, at the patio, in the garden, several living rooms. And a cosy kitchen where you can be the Chef Cook yourself. The organic fruits from her garden, every day some home baked sweet cake with the breakfast. Filomena you are a beautiful lady with a big warm heart.
Fiona - the hostess was a very pleasant person, willing to give advice. Quinta do Cabouco is her home, love. . that's why we also felt great. thank you
Short stay ;(
everything was magical. many thanks to the owner of the hotel, we felt like home, very beautiful place
nothing
Everything was great. Host was great, we were welcomed with a smile which comes with tradicional madeira cake and madeira wine. Everything you needed Miss Filomena was more than happy to accomodate you. If you are leaving early just ask and the breakfast will be ready night before. Everything was super clean and nice. House is more than 200 years old but still very beautiful (recently renovated) with very nice garden and a fantastic wiew to the ocean and you can see perfect sunset from your room, balcony or garden. Rooms are even better then on pictures. Would recommend anyone to come to Madeira and chose to stay in this beautiful house.
It is narrow for a car to enter the yard but not too narrow and won't be a problem if you know how to drive.
Philomena is the perfect host. Everything immaculate but comfortable and well thought out. The view from our balcony (and shower) was spectacular. We loved watching the beautiful sunsets. Thank you for a very special stay.
Quite challenging the first time entering the driveway but you get used to it and not untypical in Madeira! Takes a day or so ‘to afapt’!!!
It was the best holiday of my life so far, also because I stayed in such a luxurious house as Quinta do Cabouco. The lady of the house was very kind and attentive. There are only positive things to say about her. It was the best experience ever. The price-quality ratio is adequate. Believe me, you will not regret if you book a room at this hotel. There is convenient parking for a car. But since this is Madeira, then, of course, the smaller the car, the better.
It was so beautiful! We loved our time at Quinta do Cabouco. The house, garden, and the view are amazing. Everything is maintained very well while keeping the heart of the old house. The host is very kind and helpful, she gave us a very warm welcome.
Nothing to mention here. Pitty we did jot stay longer
The authentic style was really beautiful!
Filomena is a great host, it has been a pleasure to meet her. She greeted us with a cake, Madeira wine and orange juice. She has been also very communicative prior and during the stay, The rooms are well kept and clean, in a vintage style. The rooms are in a historical house. Breakfast are nicely served and always on time. Fresh (squeezed) orange juice served each day, fresh fruit and pastry.
Breakfast is good but a bit repetitive, for a longer stay it could become boring. But everything fresh, and that's not really a complaint just a suggestion :)
A warm and cozy welcome. Especially memorable "reception desk" :) Amazing breakfast with avocados straight from the villa garden, amazing views from the windows and impeccable cleanliness.
The Quinta do Cabouco is amazing. The house is beautiful, cozy, with stunning views, it feels like being in a different world! The breakfast was excellent. We spent there a week and every day received a different kind of local fruit and cake, home made jams, fresh orange juice, etc. Filomena was very kind and helpful with everything. It’s just the perfect place if you want to spend your holidays in Madeira in a really unique place.
Nothing, it’s 10/10 :)
I'll begin with the fact that the host is an amazing person. Filomena made sure to answer any questions we had. The rooms were amazing and comfortable. The breakfast was delicious and healthy. The view from our rooms were breathtaking. The location is perfect, you're 5 minutes away from the highway and the possibility to effortlessly get to any side of the island. We're definitely coming back. Thank you again for the great experience!
Spectacular views, very kind host, delicious breakfast.
It feels like at home, everything done with great attention to detail, very welcoming and kind attitude from Filomena! Very nice breakfast, the room is cozy with comfortable bed and proper mattress. Very happy and will come back) Thank you!
none
The quinta is beautiful, lots of space to relax in. Fabulous views to the coast from the west facing aspect. Having a guest kitchen with fridge, cooker etc is a bonus if you would like to eat in rather than drive out. Exceptionally clean with fresh towels when you feel you need them. Our room on the top floor was well appointed with a sitting area, bright and colourful. Breakfast is varied, Filomina provides fresh baked cake daily and enough food to see you through to at least a late lunch. No pressure on what time you have to leave the table either, so plenty of time to chat with other guests if you want to over a very decent cup of fresh coffee. Overall a little gem.
Nothing about the place disapponts at all. It's a bit remote from local bars and restaurants but if you taken the time yi read up on the area before you book it won't be a surprise.
The views were amazing, lovely veranda and balcony to sit on.
Filomena is an excellent host, friendly, kind and attentive. She helped us out with Portuguese to get in touch with the driver when we had a minor car accident. The house is very elegant and of good taste. Our room was not too spacious, but cosy, and the bathroom was super cute. Breakfast was excellent with fresh fruits, orange juice and eggs every morning, also cake or muffins as second course. Be aware that the driveway is quite narrow, but big cars are nothing for Madeirian roads anyway ;) As the house is located in the upper valley, expect some noise from the city when windows are open during the night.
Quinta do Cabouco is the perfect rural accomodation! It is very cozy, it gives you a nice homey feeling and you can see the soul and energy put in every detail of this place by Filomena! Ideall for couples/ travellers that enjoy nature and prefer avoiding the commercial or crowded ares; yes, it is recommended to rent a car for reaching the accomodation but i quess most tourists rent a car anyway for better discovering Madeira! We were warmly welcomed and, during our stay it was my husband's birthday, so Filomena gave him a gift! Inside is very clean, breakfast is fantastic, rich, very tasty and includes (aside from the regular menu you would expect) all sorts of local fruits, pastries and fresh juice! The views from the garden and from our window were also spectacular, very good location (nears many beautiful beaches and tourist attractions) and, last but not least, the bed is super confortable so you will for sure have a good night sleep!
Nothing
Everything!
The place where the house is on Google maps is not accurate. (in fact its more down the street - it could cause problems while GPS navigation). But its really the only small thing.
Simply great

A beautiful place where we spent our ten days in Madeira. Historic house full of hospitality, always perfectly clean. The owner is a wonderful person with a big heart. I can definitely recommend to those who want to experience a fabulous holiday. Thank you so much and we hope to return again. Monika and Martin
I didn't like that I couldn't stay there forever
Filomena is an exceptionally kind, welcoming host, and we are fortunate that she enjoys sharing her historic family home with others. The view of Ribeira Brava and the ocean is spectacular. We enjoyed eating fresh fruits from the garden. The separate guest kitchen with adjoining wisteria-draped (ocean view) veranda was a lovely space to have a meal or just relax. We also liked the fact that there are only three guestrooms. We had a very comfortable stay here, and would definitely recommend it for couples.
It's a bit of a drive up the terraced hills of Ribeira Brava, but the benefit of that is fabulous ocean views. The driveway entrance is steep, so the front undercarriage of our rental car rubbed the pavement both coming and going.
Breakfast was beautifully presented. Views from room were stunning. Lots of space to sit and relax on terraces. Use of guest kitchen very handy for drinks and snacks etc.
Roads and entrance are on very steep inclines so be aware when arriving by car (especially in the dark...!)
The breakfast was so beautiful made, Filomena the owner, really put a lot of effort to make it so aesthetic and delicious. It is home made cakes, figs from the garden (when season) and other fresh fruit, and homemade jam, and everything you need!! The location is so peaceful and relaxed, just sitting in her beautiful and extraordinary garden is so healing. I just loved it som much, so I have already booked for next year. She have three beautiful rooms, and she have made the rooms so cosy and fresh. She takes so much care of her guests, and have made so much space for her guests. It is many areas where you can sit alone and not get disturbed. Al very tastefully decorated. She gave me so many vegetables and fruits from her lovely garden, and I just made so many meals in the kitchen from all the food she gave me. She is generous, gentle and kind. This is a place for truly healing and relaxing. I can not cover with words how grateful I was during my stay!! It is a peaceful place and you overlook the ocean and sunset! The best way to get around is with a rented car. The busses do not go often in Madeira. But I stayed 14 days without a car, and took the buss now and than and walked down to the beach. It is very steep, but it is also possible. Filomena also showed me her organic fairytale garden, and I have never seen so much lovely variety in a garden before. She is truly respectful, not only to her guests but also to the environment. And it is the first time in my life I went into a reception for doing the payment, and than got served Madeira wine, classic Madeira cake and figs! Very unusual. In this place you get true luxury given by the heart!!!
Filomena welcomed us in the middle of the night with a very delicious treat. She really is one of the best hosts we ever had. She is super kind and made us feel at home the whole time. She even let us pick figs from her garden. We really loved staying with her. Breakfast was delicious with freshly baked treats and fresh orange juice. Filomena also served home made jam and tomatoes from her garden. The room was spaceous and super clean with a comfy bed. The view was amazing. We even saw the sunset from our window. Free parking on the premesis. It was super easy to get to all the important places since the house is located in the middle of the south of the island.
The only thing that was not 100% perfect was the missing shelf in the bathroom. Nothing major.
It’s a very quiet place, with gorgeous views from the room and terrace where you could have a great chill time. Shared cooking facilities, tasty breakfasts with fruit & tomatoes right from the garden. Very clean. And lovely host.
We had a wonderful week at Quinta Do Cabouco. Wonderful place to visit. The house is so nice. Lots of details, so beautiful. Filomena welcomed us when we arrived. And from the first minute we arrived, we felt at home. Filomena showed us her garden and explained all about it. Marvelous what you can find, this garden is really a chapter for itself. The views to the ocean is spectacular. Especially the balcony on first floor are the perfect place to relax after a good day exploring Madeira. . Truly we can say, the stay here for a week were amazing and we will definitely come back for more and enjoy the beauty of the place and the magnificent views of the sea and the mountains.
The landlady is hospitablity incarnated. From the lovely Bolo de Mel and Madeira wine at our arrival, to the fruits and vegetables from her garden she shared with het guests. The accomodation is really perfect. With a kitchen, a terras, a balcony and the garden the guests can share. Plus eating room, sitting room, the garden..... The quinta has an authentic atmosphere and is decorated with much love and an eye for detail. Its really a little paradise. We felt a bit spoiled here. Filomena goes at great length to make you feel at home. · Some people mention it is difficult to find with the GPS system of the car. Just follow the instructions on te website of the quinta. At the end, follow the signs.
We really enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home on the hillside, with it’s far reaching views, quiet location and charming hostess. Filomena gave us a special welcome with Madeiran treats and more importantly her time and conversation, a delightful lady. There are great, spacious communal areas plus a well equipped guest kitchen and a sunny veranda. Cold buffet breakfast with the highlights of freshly squeezed juice, seasonal produce from the garden which included avocados, custard apples, bananas, apples and pomegranates and local cakes. We were happy with the location for going off doing Levada walks. Note: A car is definitely recommended for a stay here.
We enjoyed five perfect nights at Quinta do Cabouco, looked after by our perfect host, Filomena. The accommodation is perched high above Ribeira Brava, offering marvellous views out across the ocean and down towards the town, and the neighbourhood is very tranquil at all times of the day. Filomena welcomes you into her home as if you were a family member, and on arrival we were served tea, home made cake, freshly made passion fruit juice and a glass of Madeira, which was extremely generous and made us feel very special. The house is elegant, spacious and furnished in a traditional style, and as well as our huge bedroom we had access to a first floor lounge and another lounge on the ground floor, which had the dining area to one side and kitchen facilities which were available to us on the other. It is a delightful place to relax in, and we enjoyed doing so after spending our days exploring the island’s many walks. Breakfasts were excellent, and allowed you to prepare plates according to your own tastes from a beautiful array of meat, cheese, fresh bread and pastries, home made jams and fruit, and make your own coffee using the espresso machine. The wonderful view from the table made breakfast a particularly memorable experience. We experienced more of Filomena’s generosity over Christmas, when a table of home made cakes, cookies, dried fruit, nuts, bacalau and olives was laid out on the ground floor on Christmas Eve. We assumed that this was a feast that had been prepared for her family members, and we were overwhelmed when she told us that it was for her guests to enjoy. We were really touched by this special gesture, and it really sums up the lengths that Filomena goes to to ensure that her guests are happy during their stay. Madeira is a magical place to visit, and Quinta do Cabouco is unique and magical place to stay on the island. We have many special memories of our holiday, but we cannot thank Filomena enough for the kindness and generosity we experienced during our stay with her, and we can not recommend her accommodation highly enough.
From the minute we arrived we felt at home! Filomena was a gracious hostess in every respect, nothing was too much trouble. Perfect in every way... From the warm welcome with cake, wine and fresh granadilla juice from the garden; beautiful views; spectacular sunsets; central location; delicious breakfasts; hot showers.... The list goes on... TIPS!!!! You need a car to appreciate this place! DO NOT USE A CAR RENTAL GPS We got very lost going there... Use an apple app Maps.Me, then you will have no issues at all navigating this island. The guest house is also marked on this app, you will not get lost! Travel out of town to eat! See some of my other reviews! Thank you Filomena for a wonderful time, we are proud to be your first South African visitors...
We spent our honeymoon-days at Quinta do Cabouco and it was really great. Everything was arranged perfectly. We were welcomed with traditional self-made cake and typical wine. Rooms were very fine and stylish like in a luxurious villa or country house. A direct view on the sea from almost every room is possible. Breakfast was excellent with fresh juice, self-made jam and excellent coffee quality. From the breakfast room, a breath-taking panoramic view on the sea is possible. We also once prepared our own dinner which is possible in a separate kitchen for guests in the ground floor of the very nice building. All in all, we enjoyed our stay very much and look forward to spend once more wonderful days in Quinta do Cabouco.
We fully enjoy the the beautiful view, the fresh fruit from the garden, Filomena's hospitality and recommend highly to stay at this nice and quiet house at the sunniest part of Madeira. Finding the house is easy with Filomena's indications and signposts at the street, the last 10 meters in first gear... Christof and Stefan from Maison Mosgenstein, Berne
We have been visiting regularly Quinta do Cabouco since 2009 and we truly love this place. We've come to consider it our home in Madeira with its fabulous location, unforgettable views at all times, tastefully decorated rooms, organic dinners and romantic atmosphere. Filomena is the perfect hostess - kind, attentive and efficient yet discreet and unobtrusive. The Quinta's location provides further advantages besides the magnificent views. Ribeira Brava is extremely well situated to explore the whole island from Porto Muniz to the North West, the village of Santana in the North and Funchal and Machico in the east -all of these options for wonderful daily trips. It can also be a great starting point for walking tours through Madeira's beautifully developed walking paths. All guests receive a free candlelit welcome dinner and although it is possible to book dinner in advance you can also dine in the beach restaurants in the nearby Ponta do Sol and admire the sunset. Having covered most of the island by now we would love to return again for simply enjoying the beautiful energy of a house run with so much love.
We had a wonderul week at Filomenas Quinta in Ribeira Brava! She welcomed us very warmly and nicely, even though we were arriving late. The quinta is in the hills of Ribeira Brava, with a stunning view over the ocean, by car it takes about 10 Minutes to downtown of Ribeira Brava. We stayed in the suite which has a lot of space and is nicely decorated, everything is very clean and fresh, we felt very comfortable. Even if you catch a rainy day you have lots of options to spent the day in the house, there are two very cozy living rooms and two roofed terraces, perfect. There is a very well-equipped kitchen for the guests also available. We had a really good week here and are already planning our next trip to beautiful Madeira!
Perfect is the only word to describe this home and if I could give it more than 5 stars, I would. This was my second time coming to Quinta do Cabouco and I was here for two weeks. It is tucked away up in the mountain offering spectacular views of Ribeira Brava down below. The house is absolutely beautiful and makes you feel right at home. The host is so friendly and gracious and offers true Madeiran hospitality. The meals she prepares offer a true taste of traditional Madeiran cuisine and most of the vegetables come from her organic garden! The bedrooms are beautifully decorated and each have their own bathroom. The guest kitchen is equipped with everything one would need to prepare their own meals. And the views from the living area offer the perfect spot to watch the sunset in the evening. For those who are up for an adventure, I highly recommend walking down Caminho do Cabouco to Ribeira Brava. It's about a half hour walk, very steep, but definitely makes it feel like you're walking through old Madeira. Quinta do Cabouco is the perfect place to stay if you are looking to get away from the crowds and want to feel like you are at home. I have found my true home away from home and definitely will visit this quinta again!
