Reviewed Jul 6, 2026I was the only guest and it was very very scary .I was really not comfortable to be all by myself far from the main gate and the main house .Very isolated .The room was very very cold ,there was no electricity so the aircon was not functioning .

Unfortunately the milk in the fridge had gone bad, also the toilet floor mat looked dodgy (it looked dirty) 😬.

Reviewed Jan 10, 2026The place is beautiful, peaceful and truly tranquil. The view of the river was absolutely amazing and we really enjoyed the ferry ride - such a special experience. The hosts Urma and Piet, were welcoming, warm friendly and kind., making us feel at home from the moment we arrived. The room was spacious, modern and spotless with everything you could possibly need. The bathroom was lovely and large and the shower was absolutely amazing. A wonderful stay in a very special place. Highly Recommended!!!!

Loved everything, only recommendation would be to separate guests when not all units in use and move big black bins elsewhere.

The view of the river is beautiful and peaceful — perfect for relaxing after a long day. We really enjoyed the boat ride on the river, which was such a fun and memorable experience for the whole family. It was also lovely to see some buck in the area, adding to the calm, natural atmosphere. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, and we felt welcome from the moment we arrived. The guesthouse is very neat, clean, and well maintained. We would 100% recommend At The River Guesthouse to anyone visiting Kroonstad.

It would have been perfect if there was a restaurant on the premises to be able to sit - also I messaged the property to ask if its possible to come in a hour earlier - and when we got to the gate - the guy on the quad bike drove past - just ignoring us - we then turned around to the local country club - and then only I received a message to say we can come in - but then we only went there an hour later.
