Rainforest River Bay

Very good accommodation with a really nice family. The food was amazing ! They also proposed different tours in the forest where we saw serpents and other creatures. (Unfortunately most of them seemed to be sleeping) Also it is possible to swim in the river and it was really cool.

Tree personne has to sleep in one double size bed.

De locatie in de jungle aan de rivier was adembenemend. Hele fijne kamer en sanitair. De vrouw van de eigenaar (tevens jungle gids) kookte heerlijk. Jammer dat we maar een nacht hebben genoten op deze bijzondere plek.

De locatie ligt wat afgelegen, maar dichtbij het oerwoud. Voor ons geen probleem maar goed om te weten.

Die Lage direkt am Fluss war toll! Das Essen war reichlich und frisch zubereitet.Es hat herrlich geschmeckt! Da wir zu fünft waren und nur 2 Zimmer vorhanden sind, waren wir die einzigen Gäste.Die Gastgeber waren zurückhaltend, aber sehr herzlich und haben alle Anfragen bestens erfüllt. Die Regenwaldtour mit dem Vater der Gastgeber, welcher schon seit 20 Jahren Guide ist, ist sehr empfehlenswert!

Loved our stay at Rainforest River Bay. The host family really looked after us, they picked us up from Deniyaya and dropped us off again afterwards. The included breakfast was delicious and so were the added dinners we had too. The highlight though was the grandfather taking us through the rainforest as our guide, we got to see several different snakes, lizards, birds, and other interesting critters and bugs. We left very happy!!

Echt heel vriendelijke familie waar we mochten verblijven. Onze kinderen gingen met de kinderen van het gezin zwemmen, dat was heel gezellig. De opa van het gezin liet ons allerlei moois in Sinharaja rainforest zien. Een verblijf om nooit te vergeten.

Geweldige guesthouse aan de rand van Sinharaja Rainforest. Alles was perfect. We hebben 2 dagen 2 leuke tours gedaan. De eigenaar was onze gids in het regenwoud en liet ons heel veel zien. Het ontbijt was heerlijk en het avondeten helemaal top. Als je naar Sinharaja komt, zal ik dit guesthouse zeker aanbevelen.

Toute la famille est extrêmement gentille et accueillante. Nous avons pris les 2 logements pour notre famille de 2 adultes et 3 enfants. Ils sont très confortables, propres et bien équipés avec une attention particulière pour la décoration. Ils sont dans un lieu calme à proximité de l’école et d’une rivière. Les repas sont préparés avec amour et son exquis. La mère nous a montré comment cuisiner un kottu au poulet. Nous avons effectué une randonnée d’une demi-journée avec le père et une journée entière avec le grand-père dans la forêt de Sinharaja. Les deux balades étaient complémentaires avec des explications sur la faune et la flore. Nous avons vu notamment des vipères, un scorpion, des papillons, des oiseaux tropicaux, des lézards, des singes, des grands écureuils et de multiples plantes médicinales. Outre ces deux randonnées, nous avons pu nous balader à proximité du logement voir plusieurs oiseaux comme dés martins-pêcheurs, des perroquets, des hirondelles, etc. Les garçons ont pêché dans la rivière.

We found this place completely by chance while looking for accommodation in and around Deniyaya, as our main objective was to explore the Sinharaja Rainforest. We're so glad we booked it because it exceeded all our expectations. From the comfortable accommodation and delicious home cooked food to the warm hospitality, everything was exceptional. The property is run by Kasun and his lovely family, his wife and their two children who made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. A special mention goes to Kasun's father, Uncle Anura, an experienced tour guide, who kindly volunteered to take us into the rainforest and even guided us to a beautiful nearby river for a refreshing bath. He was always incredibly accommodating, and his knowledge, passion, and willingness to go above and beyond truly made our experience unforgettable. The entire family was incredibly welcoming, caring, and genuinely hospitable. If you're looking for a peaceful stay near Sinharaja with wonderful hosts, I highly recommend this place. We'll definitely be back!

From the comfortable rooms and delicious home cooked food to the exceptional hospitality, everything exceeded our expectations. It was a great experience. Hat's off to the hosts !

We hadden een fijne nieuwe kamer. De bedden waren prima en de klamboes om het bed waren heel fijn. De douche in de badkamer is warm en leuk verdiept gemaakt zodat niet alles nat wordt. Het is fijn dat er naast de wastafel zoveel ruimte voor je toiletspullen is. De airco werkte goed, al viel soms de stroom wat uit 's avonds waardoor hij even afsloeg. De grote ventilator doet het dan nog wel, dus heel goed te doen. Mooi groen uitzicht over de rivier en boom met jackfruit. We hebben een leuke wandeling gemaakt met de eigenaar door het regenwoud waarbij hij ons veel dieren en planten liet zien (wat we anders volledig hadden gemist) en gezwommen bij een waterval. De gastvrouw kookt fantastisch! We hebben hier de beste curry's van onze hele vakantie gegeten.

De rondleidingen door het regenwoud (die verplicht zijn, toeristen mogen niet zonder gids zeggen ze) zijn niet goedkoop (voor Sri Lankaanse begrippen), maar er worden overal dezelfde vrij hoge prijzen gerekend lees ik.

Ausstattung war einfach aber gut und sauber. Essen war sehr gut und richtig lecker

Vriendelijke eigenaar die ook een hele goede host is voor de Sinharaja Rainforest safari. Ik zou er zeker nog een keer verblijven. Ontbijt en diner is ook top!

We hadden een prachtige kamer met uitzicht op de rivier. De eigenaar is ook gids en die heeft ons meegenomen . Hij heeft veel verstand van de natuur en ziet de dieren voor jij ze ziet. Zijn vrouw is een goede kok en zorgt supergoed voor je.

De vriendelijkheid van de eigenaren, het huisje met een heerlijk badkamer met regendouche en uitzicht op de rivier en het woud TOP 👍👍en het ontbijt( English ) De rondleiding door het Rainforest van 6 uur ( 10 km),door de eigenaar van het hotel, veel kleine beestjes gezien.

Kan niets verzinnen 🤣🤣 misschien dat je extra moet betalen voor de Airco 🫣

The room and the balcony are fantastic, much much nicer than in the pictures! It completely exceeded our expectations. Definitely go for a hike in the rainforest with the host (professional guide) and you will see many snakes, lizards, insects, birds, etc.

The staff welcomed us and treated us like family. The food was wonderful and tasty for a decent price. They also offered us a very good foot message.

Nice big glasses wall offers beautiful view to the river and jungle, where a peacock could be seen every day :-) Everything clean. Above-standard bathroom by Sri Lankan standards. Enough powerfull AC Good food adapted to my allergies.

There are gaps at the top and bottom of big glasses doors that allow insects to get in. The sounds from the neighboring house were very audible in my room. (I travel alone and am more sensitive to noise; this probably wouldn't bother families with children.)

We absolutely loved our stay here! The location is perfect, very close to the rainforest, which makes it super convenient since you can get there easily when your tour starts. The hosts were incredibly kind and took such good care of us. We also had dinner here, which was absolutely delicious, definitely a recommendation in itself. We joined the owner on a rainforest tour, and it was such an amazing experience. He was truly skilled at spotting animals, so we got to see so many beautiful creatures. On top of that, he shared so much knowledge about the wildlife, which made it all the more enjoyable. All in all, we are very grateful for this wonderful experience and would recommend it to anyone. Also worth mentioning: their English is excellent, which made communication very easy and pleasant.

Hoewel je in the middel of nowhere zit, zit je wel dichtbij de rainforest. Super lieve mensen. We zaten in de nieuwe accommodatie die er top uitzag! Met ook nog eens mooi uitzicht.

Een fantastisch en veruit het beste verblijf van onze vakantie! Schone nette kamer met uitzicht op het regenwoud en de rivier. Hele lieve familie die je goed verzorgd en zorgt voor een prettig verblijf We zijn met de eigenaar op pad geweest voor een Rainforest trail en vertelde veel over de dieren en het natuur. Hij heeft een scherp oog en spotte veel dieren waar je anders langs gelopen zou zijn. We hebben tweemaal heerlijke huisgemaakte curry gegeten. Ook hebben we een avondwandeling met de zoons gemaakt op zoek naar kikkers en schorpioenen, wat gezellig was. Ik zou het verblijf zeker aanraden als je een fantastische ervaring in het regenwoud wilt. We vonden het jammer dat ons verblijf voorbij was en komen graag hier terug in onze volgende reis.

Wat een supervriendelijke familie is dit! Echt een homestay waar je je direct helemaal thuis voelt. Een ontvangst met een verse limonade, koekjes en vooral veel liefde. De gastvrouw kan echt voortreffelijk koken en je krijgt hier niets tekort. We zijn met de vader van de familie een hele dag het regenwoud in geweest. Jeetje wat heeft deze man veel kennis, echt een unieke ervaring. De accommodatie is ruim, met twee balkons, een zitruimte, slaapkamer met goede klamboe en een basic badkamer.

Er waren wat problemen met het warme water, waardoor we een koude douche hadden. De gastheer bood wel lief aan, dat we van zijn douche gebruik mochten maken. Het bed is voor Sri Lankaanse begrippen zelfs hard 😅.

Es hat uns wirklich super gefallen! Wir wurde herzlich willkommen inklusive einem Getränk und Früchten. Das Familienzimmer ist unglaublich schön und sauber. Wir haben uns in diese Unterkunft verliebt. Die beste Unterkunft für uns in Sri Lanka. Frühstück sowie Lunch und Dinner war alles sehr lecker und mit Liebe gemacht. Haben eine Regenwald Tour mit dem Inhaber gemacht. Hat uns super gefallen. Er hat und sehr viel erklärt und hat ein geschultes Auge. Er hat uns Zeit gelassen und uns nicht gedrängt. Wir werden aufjedenfall wiederkommen!

Als je een bezoek wilt brengen aan het Sinharaya Rainforest, dan moet je een overnachting boeken bij dit lieve gezin. Heel gastvrij, een welkomstdrankje, een heerlijk vers en uitbreid ontbijt, we zijn echt verwend door deze lieve mensen. We hadden de familiekamer, die met grote glazen ruiten uitkijkt op het regenwoud en de tweepersoonskamer, die wat hoger is en ook een prachtig uitzicht heeft. Boek ook gelijk je jungletour hier, de gastheer neemt je mee het regenwoud in en laat je dieren zien waar wij ongemerkt aan voorbij lopen. Dank jullie wel voor de gastvrijheid.

1. Het uitzicht was fantastisch!!!! 2. Dicht bij het regenwoud. 3. Gastheer/vrouw. Vriendelijke mensen. Je voelde je er echt welkom. 4. Lekker ontbijt en diner! Ik raad dit aan. 5. De kamer was zeer ruim en met 2 overdekte terrassen had je een prachtig uitzicht. De kamers waren wel niet volledig afgesloten. Maar er was een (propere) klamboe aanwezig. Voor ons was dit perfect! En het bed was zeer breed. 6. Hygiëne. Nette kamer en badkamer. 7. Prijskwaliteit ten top. 8. Kennen veel van vogels en de omgeving. Super leuk! 9. Regelden voor ons lastminute nog een ochtendwandeling. We mochten na de wandeling nog ontbijten en iets later uitchecken. Daarvoor dank! 10. Parking voor je tuktuk.

1. De weg er naar toe is uitdagend. En mocht nog iets beter aangegeven worden. 2. In de buurt een hondje met schurft. Geen idee of deze al werd behandeld. Maar mag gerust gebeuren. Tip: zet een potje voor donaties om voor de dieren te zorgen. Wij hadden alvast iets in het potje gestoken. 3. Dat we er maar 2 nachten verbleven... Het hadden er gerust meer mogen zijn!

The location is amazing - probably my favourite location in Sri Lanka yet, with a beautiful balcony view of the rainforest. The WiFi is very fast, and the food is fantastic.

Nothing at all to dislike - though it is worth mentioning that the last 200m of road leading up to the house, maybe a little too narrow for some cars. That said, the owner of the property will happily come down and pick you and your luggage up in a tuk-tuk.

What an experience. The room was beautiful and perfect for the three of us. The bathroom felt very luxury and the shower was very good. The family prepared a lovely dinner of curries for us which was one of the best curries we have had. The breakfast was also lovely and we all left very full of food. The rainforest tour was amazing and swimming under a waterfall was a real highlight. This trip is a must

We had a truly delightful and unforgettable stay at Rainforest River Bay. Surrounded by the beauty of nature, it was the perfect place to relax and reconnect with the environment. The family room was just as described—clean, cozy, and impeccably tidy, exactly like the photos. What made our stay even more special was the delicious and authentic Sri Lankan food we were treated to, including traditional Aurudu sweets that added a lovely festive touch. The hosts are a generous, warm-hearted, and incredibly friendly family who go above and beyond to make you feel right at home. Their kindness and hospitality made our experience truly memorable. The access road to the car park is narrow. A car with low ground clearance won't be able to reach the destination. The owner had cancelled my booking as no show on last morning. When inquired about it they mentioned that it was a mistake.

We stayed here for two nights, doing a guided tour in between. It was a super good stay. Usually, the owner himself does the guided tour. In our case, he was already booked, so his father guided us. He was a great guide, with a lot of love for the forest and a lot of knowledge after guiding people around for already over 20 years. After the tour, we had delicious food, served at the new guesthouse of the owners brother (Wildlife Kingdom, we did not sleep there but it looked also very comfortable with a great view). All other meals were also prepared by the owners wife, and after spending two weeks in Sri Lanka we can say that that was the best food we have had so far! We stayed on the top floor, which was very comfortable. Of course, being close to nature means there will be insects, so be prepared for that ;) Thank you for hosting us!

Our stay at the Rainforest River Bay was amazing! The family is really nice and helped us with everything. The food and tea was exceptional. We did a tour through the rainforest with Kasun (the owner of the guesthouse). He has a huge knowledge about the forest, its plants and animals. Rooms were nice and clean. The view was amazing from the rooms and the breakfast was very good as well. The family was super friendly and sympathic. The father is also a Tourguide and knows a lot. For us it was also amazing to see the start of the school which is next to the place. There is a morning chanting in the school which impressed us a lot also. We also had dinner and lunch. Which was just amazing. Different curries like Okra,. potatoes,...

This was our second visit to Rainforest River Bay, and we were fortunate to be offered a free upgrade to a family room, which was much better than the standard room. The family space is located on the top floor and has a room two beds (one double, one regular) and two spacious balconies. One of them features a large table, along with a comfortable sofa and armchairs, creating a private space where you can relax with your family. Breakfasts were included in our stay, and we also ordered dinners from the host. The food was perfect and delicious. Both the owner and his wife are very kind people. The owner works at Sinharaja National Park and can guide you through the park if you're interested. The location is excellent, just 100 meters from the main road, in the natural bay of Gin Ganga, giving you the feeling of staying in the jungle. There’s a small forest next to the lodge where you can safely explore the local wildlife at night. You can even take a dip in the river if you like. Overall, I highly recommend this property for nature lovers.

The primary school is directly in front of the building. Since we wake up early and spend most of our time in the field with the camera, this wasn’t a problem. Access from the main road might be challenging for a small car, but since we came by motorcycle, it wasn’t an issue too

We stayed at this guesthouse on a motorcycle trip and were surprised when Booking provided a free upgrade to a fantastic family room! It was on the top 2nd floor with two big balconies. One balcony is a spacy private lobby area that has a big table, TV, sofa, and armchairs - perfect for relaxing after rainforest adventures. Keep in mind, the budget room on the first floor is much smaller and located next to the kitchen on the 1st floor. The location is amazing! Set right on a natural turn of the Gin Ganga river, it offers a true jungle experience, especially in the evenings and nights. It's much quieter here compared to the crowded areas near the Sinharaja forest entrance. There's one minor thing to consider - there's a local school right in front, so it can get a little noisy in the mornings around 7-8am. However, we woke up at 6am anyway to watch the birds (and there were plenty to photograph!). The last 100 meters between the road and the guesthouse can be a bit challenging if you arrive in a small car. However, it's fine for a tuk-tuk or motorcycle. The owners were fantastic. Breakfast was delicious, and they offered amazing local dinners for a very reasonable price (1500 Rs per person). We also tried their pot of tea (300 Rs) and it was unlike anything we've ever had - simply fantastic! Kasun and his father are experienced guides and they can lead you on rainforest walks. Overall, this guesthouse was a perfect escape for our Sinharaja adventure. Highly recommended!

Wonderful family and a great place to stay. The room is the entire top floor, there's a living area, seperate bedroom and balcony. Definitely great value for money. Perfect location close to the start of the rainforest trekking path. The food cooked by the family is fantastic, huge portions and really tasty. I did the rainforest trek with the host and he was great, he will spot animals out of nowhere, quite amazing.

Great accomodation, close to the rainforest. We had a whole flor with to balconies for our own. The hosts are such warmhearted people. We even got a great dinner. The pineapple juice was delicious.

I can highly recommend this place! We stayed for two nights and was just perfect. What is to mention, that the accommodation is the complete third floor, so you have a lot of privacy and a living room including eating table, where you eat the breakfast. Every room is very open, so you can enjoy all the time the nice view into the nature and river. Everything was very clean and pleasant. The host is a rainforest tour guide, so we went for a tour with him. 100 % recommendation. Also we received dinner from his wife for little money, which was tasty and so lovely!

The owners were very nice people and we had plenty of space for the family with three kids. It's at the edge of the rainforest, and everything is green around the house. The breakfast was perfect, even my choosy daughter had good variety. We had a rainforest tour with the owner's father, and this little old man was the best choice we could make. He spotted all the animals on the way and simply couldn't stop explaining everything on the way, and finally we ended up having the tour two hours longer than planned. If you also go with him give our greetings to him. We would return any time.

As everybody commented, very good spot for Sinharaja rainforest tour. Kasun, the host, is a great tour guide through the rainforest. He explained very detailled to us, with great experience, fluent English and his pleasant voice. Also he took us the 1500m with his tuctuc to the entrance. His wife cooked delicious dinner and breakfast and even prepared a nice lunch box for the hike. Thank you so much for welcoming us so warmly we had a wonderful stay in you home!

Lovely family. I had a great time there. All confort at the edge of the jungle. Discovery of new fruits a'd vegetables in my plate. What to expect better. I came also for an exploration of the forest with the father. We saw many animals including snakes an scorpios that he has the magical to spot out. So knowledgeable about all plants. And yes there are olives in Sri lanka.

This place is great as well as the hosts. They made us delicious food and the room they gave us was above expectations. We came here because the host is also a tour guide. The price for the tour was a bit on the high side, 7500 per person. However, this was a very budget tour for us and it was very well worth the price. Also, breakfast is included which was very nice.

The Family is really nice. We had a Great time staying there. The food was amazing and everything was organized really well. I can totally recommend this accommodation.

Very welcoming host and family. Donot get upset with first impression . Sometimes you may not feel very comfortable at beginning . But that is one of the best you can find in this difficult area. Basic small rooms. Climate is cool. No need of air conditioning

Aceess road is very difficult . Be careful . Very beginning we didnt feel comfortable because there were several peoples on premises with two tuk tuks

Truly the best place we’ve stayed in Sri Lanka. Kasun and Tamali are extremely friendly and welcoming and they took SUCH good care of us; breakfast and dinner were amazing, and they even brought us great snacks to take with us on the trek! Trekking with Kasun was also incredible, he knows the forest very well and will spot every hidden salamander on the way. This place is a gem! :)

Beautiful accomodation in the jungle. Very spacious (including a little living room with table, chairs and sofa), plus a great view of the river. The owner is a super guide (he will spot you a bug on a leaf and he knows his birds).

Absolutely nothing

We had the most wonderful stay at Rainforest River Bay. The room is on the top of the family home and surrounded by the rest of their family’s homes on the property. It’s such a special environment! Everything was incredibly clean and the family went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. The food was amazing! The price is absolutely too low! Kasun the owner is a guide in Sinharaja and we had an amazing tour with him. He has an amazing eye and we saw an incredible number of birds and reptiles. I couldn’t recommend this place more. Thank you so much for having us!
