Mellow Hostel Sri Lanka

The staff were super nice and helpful and there is an in-house cafe with discounted prices for hostel guests. The rooms were clean and comfortable.

The location is not beach front even tho it says so on booking.com which was a bummer because we really wanted a beach front location. But it was just across the street from the beach so it wasn't a big deal.

Rooms are cozy and the beds are so comfy! Huge plus - The cafe attached to the hostel is very convenient to grab a meal, coffee or to just hang out!

Cafe/restaurant from the hostel is a bit expensive, mostly western food on the menu. You get a discount if you're from the hostel, but for some how during the next days only if you pay by cash. Even tho the food was good

Convenience, safety, staff, and overall experience

Nothing too bad.. just that it’s not pet friendly as stated on booking.. cos there are two resident dogs who are a threat to guests pets

The staff was the best. They were quite friendly. Well prepared to accept me as a guest and unbelievably polite. Hospitality at its best.

beach was right across the street! the cafe was great though food took about 30minutes the food itself was really nice . the staff were very nice as well

Amazing stay at Mellow Hostel! The staff were super friendly, everything was clean and well-organized, and the atmosphere was perfect for both relaxing and meeting new people. I felt very comfortable throughout my stay. Would definitely come back highly recommended!

Nice private room in a good location

The bathroom wasn't completely clean when I arrived, I had to remove a few hairs from the sink and shower.

It has EVERYTHING you need and appreciate in a hostel, came here the second time and will always pick it when I’m back in the region!

You could spend your whole time here and not need to leave. You shouldn't, but you could. Daily activities, full restaurant cafe, coworking space, lots of personal storage in the dorm, chic design, and two good old dogs. Location a stone's throw from the Rock surf point, good for beginners and intermediates.

Wifi was ok but you could really sense the congestion at night. Some electrical issues with my bed charging point, which they fixed the next day. Hard to keep the bathroom floor clean. There never seemed to be enough space to dry everyone's swim clothes in the dorm as everyone was surfing every day. Relatively minor problems, so I maintain my perfect score.

Dont book it over Booking, instead directly with them over chat it will be much cheaper! Generally I think stuff to do and eat are a bit overpriced for a hostel and one night I had ants in my bed which wasnt so nice either

Only 2 bathroom in a 8 bed room. People were noisy I could not sleep well, I took a hotel after this stay to sleep.

Hostel mit super Standard, tolles motiviertes Team das viele Aktivitäten zum teilhaben anbietet die auch individuell reisende und 30+ anspricht! Ich kam an und war direkt mittendrin im Community Dinner! Strand vor der Tür und haufenweise Optionen zum surfen und Essen!

Normalerweise buche ich immer erst eine Nacht in einem Hostel um zu sehen wie es dort und in der Umgebung ist. Was soll ich sagen, nun ich bin jetzt fast 3 Wochen hier und es gefällt mir sehr gut. Die Atmosphäre hier ist sehr besonders und es fühlt sich fast ein bisschen wie Zuhause an. Alle die hier arbeiten strahlen Lebensfreude aus und machen einen unglaublich guten Job. Ich habe zwischen dem 6er und 8er Dorm gewechselt und beide sind sehr bequem und ruhig und haben AC. Die Zimmer werden täglich sauber gemacht und es gibt sogar heiße Duschen. Im Topbunk hat man eine kleine Kuppel aus Vorhängen, die man um sich aufbaut. Damit musste ich mich erstmal zurecht finden, aber inzwischen liebe ich meine kleine Höhle. Als Solo Traveler findet man bei den vielfältigen Veranstaltungen, die durch die wunderbaren Social Hosts Sofia und Sarah organisiert neue Freunde mit denen man Ahangama erkunden kann. Beim Yoga mit India findet man einen Ausgleich zum Surfen und etwas Ruhe, bevor es Abends wieder in die Bars oder Clubs geht. Alles natürlich optional. Besonders hervorheben möchte ich auch das Cafe. Hier kann man schon auch mal den ganzen Vormittag verbringen. Zum Arbeiten kommt man hier nur wenn man wirklich will, da so viele spannende Leute vorbeikommen und man immer wieder in interessante Gespräche verwickelt wird. Ganz klare Empfehlung hier ein paar Nächte zu verbringen.

Хороший номер на двоих. Есть горячая вода, через дорогу кабалана бич, расположение удобное, в кафе Mellow вкусные завтраки и отличный кофе.

The room was clean and comfortable. The AC and hot water worked well, although there was a blackout the second night so we had to wait for the hot water and it was limited. The hostel was quiet and located across the street from the beach.

Good location, right next to Kabalana beach. The bathroom and shower was nice.

The doors to the rooms are super thin - they do not block any noise. Passing trains are very loud. No terrace in the one person room, you can't call a concrete doorstep a terrace. "Garden view" = some grass in front of the room. The room was right next to the common kitchen. There was no common hang out area, hammocks or beanbags.

Great location, we stopped off for a shower on the way to the airport, as we normally would not book a hotel. But we would go back!

Nice clean rooms, beds have curtains, good wifi, nice host The cafe is right next to it and they have really good food - when I was working in the co-working space I ate there all day!

Just consider that the whole room shares one bathroom, but definitely manageable!

Die Lage zum Strand war super, der Weg zu den Restaurants war dafür etwas weiter.

I liked how cosy the space was, and how the interiors were aesthetic and pleasing.

Such a cozy and thought-through concept of dorms that allows privacy (stayed in a 6-bed-dorm), I loved the quiet surroundings, some nice restaurants are close, it's a very nice and sociable atmosphere, volunteers are really great same as staff is super friendly, I stayed longer as originally planned and would book again

Kitchen is a bit hidden and not the cleanest

Propositions de rencontres avec d'autres guests autour d'un brunch ou d'une séance de yoga très sympa Et sutout, délicieuse carte au café de la guesthouse. Plage juste de l'autre côté de la route. Nous reviendrons.

Las habitaciones están todas reformadas, son preciosas y está todo muy limpio. La cortina de la cama me dio mucha privacidad para dormir. Con tuktuk son 4 mins a la zona principal y está en la misma calle

Super friendly and co worker spaces

The room was clean.

Since it’s off season, they said they close the restaurant by 4PM. There were no Wi-Fi signals in my room nor strong signals in the co working space. I planned to stay for 3 nights but checked out on 2 because of the connectivity issue. The hostel staff said a cable is broken. They didn’t even refund the one night I didn’t utilize.

Everything you need in one place. Come here and you will understand everything.

The onsite cafe was lovely with lots of choice for all dietary needs. The hostel was situated right across from the beach. Staff were friendly.

The single bedroom that I stayed in was not as the pictures suggested, it looked like a prison cell. The room smelt really mouldy, with mould all around the door entrance. There was also loads of mosquitos in the room, so make sure to take a plug-in. The bathroom extractor fan was so noisy, which wouldn't normally bother me but it was incredibly loud and could not be turned off unless you have the light off which wasn't practical as it was so dark in the bathroom. Lastly, the bed was very hard and uncomfortable. It is a hostel, and you get what you pay for but I felt the dorms were in better condition than the single room - which was more expensive!

The location is perfect for surfing/swimming on the beach. If you cross the street you are on the beach. Bur the centre with restaurants is a long walk.

It was a mistake to book a double room at Mellow. As one of our last days in Sri Lanka we wanted to treat ourselves on a bit of a premium stay. This place looked liked that, and the price is definitely premium. However, it is very basic and not worth the money. The pictures on internet and booking.com do not reflect the room we actually stayed in. It does not offer the facilities you would expect for this kind of money. There is no seating inside or outside of your room, toiletries, tv, hairdryer of kettle. The 'garden view' is simply a view at the neighbours fence with people continuously walking across your doorstep. The bed is thin and morning shower is not warm. We have been travelling Sri Lanka for four weeks now, and this price-quality ratio is simply ridiculous. At the front is a good looking cafe, but crazy expensive once more. The space where the hostel is feels neglected and empty. We were struggling with the luggage in front of the bar and not one person tried to help us. Nothing like we have seen in the rest of the country. There is lots of place for parking, but not allowed. We were "friendly" told to get our tuktuk out of the way and onto the street. The motorbikes randomly parked throughout the terrace are still there..

Had an exceptional stay at Mellow. With the people & the vibe there is it made me come back several times, stayed around for 2 months. There’s heaps of space so if you want to chill or work you can do it & if you want to socialise there’s always cool people around to do so. With two social hosts they organise a lot of activities you can always join. Also the cafe & the food is great. Location right in front of Kabalana beach, everything perfect!

Teeth of puppy honey were quite sharp, but I forgive her because she’s so cute!

This hostel has everything you need, right across from the beach, with a gorgeous cafe. The dorms were so nice, really modern and great AC! Would definitely reccomend

This was probably the nicest hostel I've ever stayed in. The design and the whole vibe was fantastic! There is also a coffee house that belongs to the hostel to get breakfast, lunch, coffee and sweet treats which is a great addition! And to get to the beach you only have to cross the street in front of the hostel.
