Everything! But how the owners cared for us was just well above anything we have experienced before. I wish we could have stayed longer

Nimal’s house was far enough away to have peace and quiet but close enough to the main places like hiriketiya beach, silent beach, and turtle beach, to have easy access. I took scooters and tuktuks all along the coast and spent the days relaxing in the sand! The family who runs the homestay greeted me every morning with a huge breakfast and tea and were honestly the most amazing people. I loved my stay so much that I extended it by an extra night because I wasn’t ready to leave! They also arranged a taxi to take me to Ella on my final morning! Highly recommend!

Wir wurden jeden Tag herzlich nach einem Tee oder Kaffee gefragt. Am letzten Tag wurde uns ein kleines gratis Frühstück gebracht. Danke :)) gerne wieder!

Honestly, this stay felt like home in some ways. The family are the most warm hearted, compassionate people we have stayed with so far. Constant smiles, any question you had they would help. We initially booked for 2 nights but stay for 4 nights, it was that good. The breakfast was delicious. The room had everyone you need, comfortable bed to hot showers. On our departure we were given free juices and advice for our next journey. Super helpful. We are even coming back to stay in weeks to come. If you in the area, highly recommend this stay. Beautiful room, use of kitchen and a stunning breakfast, if you order it. Enough to keep me fed all day- these pancakes were desert only ( breakfast desert!) It is close enough to enjoy many beaches: Dickwella for swimming, fisherman watching and surfing. Turtle beach for turtle spotting and a good swim and honestly not a far walk to Hiriketiya either for even more food options and a surf. Tuk tuk it in 5 mins. The hosts were kind and greeted me with fresh juice! We chatted but also I felt I had space just to relax. Just good, kind people.

My stay at Nimal’s House was truly amazing and one of the most authentic experiences I’ve had. From the moment I arrived, I felt like part of the family. The care and kindness here are genuine—it’s not something superficial, but something that truly comes from the heart. Everyone is always smiling and giving their best to make you feel comfortable. The rooms were clean, cozy, and beautifully designed in traditional Sri Lankan style, which I really appreciated. The whole house has a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The breakfast was superb, and I especially loved the little thoughtful details—like fresh juice or tea always being offered in the morning or when I returned. Nimal and his daughters are incredibly kind and friendly, and the entire family creates such a special environment. They also took the time to explain local traditions to me, especially how New Year is celebrated—what to cook, the exact timing, and every step of the rituals. I even had the chance to celebrate New Year with them, including lighting fireworks together, which made the whole experience incredibly special and personal. The surroundings are peaceful and beautiful. I enjoyed visiting the nearby temple every evening, and it was lovely how all the neighbors greeted me along the way—it made me feel truly connected to the local community. The beaches nearby are unique and stunning—I even saw a turtle swimming at Turtle Point, which was unforgettable. This is the kind of place where you can really immerse yourself in local culture and experience how people truly live. Nimal went above and beyond to help me—whether it was buying water when I needed it or driving me to places. As a very special birthday surprise, he even took me on a small trip to see hundreds of bats flying at sunset. It was absolutely magical and something I will never forget.

Wow, what a beautiful guesthouse. Firstly thank you so much to Nimal and his beautiful wife for their incredible hospitality. They were so warm, welcoming and helpful throughout my stay. As a solo traveller I felt extremely safe here. I had the best breakfast in Sri Lanka here too, if you do stay make sure you try it! Rooms are spacious, comfortable and well appointed. Nimal and his wife helped me with travel plans, suggested things to visit locally and further afield and also offered great recommendations for eating locally.. What a fantastic place.

The environment was quite homely. The hosts were kind and helpful. It was scorching outside and the AC didn’t really do its job so it was a bit hot but comfortable enough.

Een hele fijne kamer: airconditioning, goed bed en een fijne badkamer. Lieve mensen die je graag helpen. Kregen bij aankomst een lekkere smoothie en bij weggaan ook nog een lekker drankje. Ze hebben een was service erbij zitten, wat heel fijn is! Locatie is ook top. Dicht bij het strand van Dickwella en met de TukTuk of de Scooter zit je zo in het centrum van Hiriketiya (5 minuten rijden).

Nimal und seine Familie sind herzensgute & liebevolle Gastgeber. Wir wurden direkt mit einem leckeren Welcome-Eistee begrüßt & hatten einen kurzen, jedoch schönen Aufenthalt. Der Dickwella Beach ist in ca. 2 Minuten fußläufig zu erreichen. Wir würden die Unterkunft vor allem denjenigen empfehlen, die es etwas ruhiger haben wollen als direkt im trubeligen Hiriketiya.

Für uns war sie etwas zu abseits, weshalb wir uns entschieden haben, näher in Richtung hiriketiya Beach zu ziehen.

Wir waren 3 Nächte hier und hätten es auch noch länger ausgehalten. Super liebe Gastgeber! Wir waren auch von ihrem Garten begeistert, alles sehr liebevoll gemacht. Das Frühstück ist sehr zu empfehlen, am Tag davor anfragen, falls man es nicht mitbestellt hat! Lage auch super, in 5-10 min am Strand. Restaurants auch fussläufig erreichbar. Alles top!

Proximity to the beach and friendly family . The rooms are large and very spacious. Perfect for family stay.

The room closest to the street was very noisy - I had to sleep on the other room with my daughter. If you want breakfast, you must let Nimal know 24 hours in advance. There isn’t anything open early other than Cafe Welly which is delicious

Das Frühstück war sehr umfangreich und lecker. Es gab frisches Obst und jeden Tag andere Sri Lankische Speisen. Die Zimmer waren recht klein, aber gemütlich und sehr sauber. Es wurde eine ganz neue Klimaanlage eingebaut. Auch gab es eine Wäscheservice und immer frische Handtücher.

Die Lage war für uns nicht so optimal und wir sind nochmal umgezogen zum anderen Wnde des Strandes, weil es dort besser für die Kinder war. Es war sehr nett von den Besitzern unsere Booking.com Reservierung zu ändern, damit wir die Unterkunft wechseln konnten.

De eigenaars waren super vriendelijk en hulpvaardig. Ze maakten het beste ontbijt uit heel Sri Lanka. 4 nachten gebleven en telkens toverden ze ons een ander ontbijt. De woning is rustig gelegen en toch niet ver te voet van de drukke , nog echte Srilankaanse stad. Het is zeker een aanrader. Het strand is ook zeer rustig met prachtige golven. Turtle beach is ook zeer mooi bij zonsondergang. Om schildpadden te spotten moet je zwemmen in een rotsachtige zee. Dus opgelet voor schrammen en zeeegels. De wandeling naar Hiri is ook de moeite. Meer volk, maar sfeervol en vele surfers. Een 4daagse om nooit te vergeten. Bedankt lieve familie

Es war eine wundervolle Unterkunft, alles war perfekt. Eine tolle Lage, ein paar Meter vom Strand entfernt, der schönste Strand im Süden von Sri Lanka, ein sehr authentischer Ort und das Beste waren die wunderbaren Gastgeber, die einem jeden Wunsch von den Augen abgelesen haben. Geht unbedingt hierher !!!

Tolle Lage, man ist innerhalb von 5 Minuten zu Fuß an einem ruhigen Strand und trotzdem in der Nähe von Hiriketiya. Im Gegensatz zu den meisten anderen Unterkünften in der Umgebung ist Nimal’s House extrem ruhig und man hört nichts von der großen Straße. Die Familie ist unfassbar lieb und zuvorkommend und spricht sehr gutes Englisch, sodass man sich perfekt verständigen kann. Obwohl ich kein Frühstück dazu gebucht habe, habe ich am letzten Tag einen ausgiebigen Snack und Tee zum Abschied bekommen. Ich würde jederzeit wiederkommen und kann Nimal’s House nur wärmsten empfehlen.

I stayed at Nimals Home Hotel for one day. The room was very clean and comfortable. The service was good, and the staff were friendly. They provided breakfast with milk rice, which was tasty. Overall, it was a pleasant stay. I recommend this place!

Loved everything about this place! Great location, 2 minutes to beautiful beaches. 5 minutes to turtle swimming at Weligama. Incredible breakfasts both days. Amazing family. Just loved it, would definitely come back.

Hele fijne, ruime en schone kamer! Dichtbij prachtige stranden en Dikwella busstation. Hele aardige en gastvrije gastheer en gastvrouw. Ze laten je echt thuisvoelen en helpen je waarmee ze maar kunnen. Ben zelfs samen met de gastvrouw naar het Sinharaja regenwoud geweest, was heel leuk en perfect geregeld met vervoer en gids! En inclusief homemade ontbijt en lunch. Aanrader om te verblijven aan de zuidkust!

Wir haben für uns und unsere Kinder zwei Zimmer gemietet, die durch ein Badezimmer miteinander verbunden waren. Die Küche war vom Innenhof zu begehen. Das Badezimmer und die Böden der Schlafzimmer waren ganz neu gemacht, die Zimmer waren sehr sauber. Die Vermieter waren sehr nett und hilfsbereit.

The room was clean, tidy and comfortable. Even though I have ordered room without AC i got a fan that was just as effective. That's about practical stuff. The way this people took care of me is way beyond standard. I felt Safe and comfortable. No request felt awkward. I booked only for one night but stayed much longer because of them. This accomodation brought me a sense of home in such a different country then my own. Thank you so much for existing. People like you bring hope that humanity is not all rotten 🖤🦜🦜

Camera semplice ma pulita. Proprietari molto gentili, al nostro arrivo ci hanno offerto un tè freddo. Posizione a 50 m dal mare, mentre a 25/30 minuti a piedi dalla spiaggia di Hiriketiya. Si può richiedere la colazione a pagamento.

Purtroppo nella nostra stanza abbiamo trovato una blatta piuttosto grande 6/7 centimetri.

More than a stay, it was a wonderful experience. They greeted us with a smile and welcome drinks when we arrived. They helped us to rent a scooter quickly. The accommodation is very close to multiple attractions and restaurants. We forgot our camera on a previous stay in Ella. We did not have enough time to go to Ella to get the camera back. They understood our situation and arranged for someone to bring our camera safely. They could have easily stayed out of this, as they were busy with their function in home but still extended their help. It shows that they want to make sure your stay is comfortable in every possible way. You cannot get this much hospitality even in five-star hotels. I would recommend this homestay to anyone who is traveling to the southern coast. Choose your stay here if you want to experience the local food and culture. Highly recommended!!

We booked the room without AC, but since it was too hot for us, we could easily switch to an AC room. Thanks for the great stay! We would definitely come back. We booked Nimal’s house last minute on the day of arrival, for one night and we wish we would have stayed longer. Her and her husband’s hospitality was amazing. They let us check in early and offered us an iced tea welcome drink, which on a hot day was very refreshing. The room and bathroom were emaculately clean, well lit and well ventilated (even in our room without AC) which we see as a huge plus in Sri Lanka. The location was great to both Dickwella beach and Turtle Point. The breakfast (additional charge) was the cherry on top of the cake - excellent and very unique! String hoppers with omelette, sambal and dhal, coconut honey pancakes, and a huge fruit plate and tea/coffee - we were full for the rest of the day! Overall a short but wonderful experience.

Everything was perfect! The hosting family was very nice they always prepared ice tea for us and it was the best I have ever had. The place was clean and well equipped. They even helped us organize a tuktuk to our next destination.

We loved it here. Nimal and Mrs Nimal were so helpful and friendly offering advice to us for our trip both in Dikwalla and for the other places we are visiting. They even spent time playing board games with our children which is a challenge at the best of times. The room was great for our family, 2 big adjoining bedrooms, a massive kitchen and bathroom. We also had a lovely balcony where we ate the delicious breakfast Mrs Nimal made. Definitely coming back here if we come back to Sri Lanka!

We loved our stay in Nimals house. It was so nice and interesting to talk to Kamani and Nimal. The sri lankan breakfast was really delicious! They lent us swimming goggles to see the turtles which was absolutely amazing. We felt very welcomed and would have loved to stay longer:)

Had a wonderful stay here! The family are so welcoming and helpful, they organised various things for me and gave great recommendations e.g. turtle beach, food spots etc. the location is perfect to explore Dickwella beach which is at your door step and Bathigama beach a very short walk away. I chose this over staying in Hiriketiya as i wanted quieter beaches (not full of surfers) and that’s exactly what i got. You don’t miss out on anything as Hiriketiya is easily reachable for a short ride or even a walk as i did once. The room/bathroom was exceptionally clean and well maintained, probably the cleanest i experienced in Sri Lanka. Mosquito net over the bed is a nice bonus. Would definitely stay again for the standard of accommodation, location and hospitality of the owners. Thanks for a nice stay!

The owners are truly exceptional. They personally take care of everything and go out of their way to make guests feel welcome. Their recommendations for local activities and directions can be very helpful, and they were always available to assist when needed. A highlight of my stay was the breakfast—delicious, high-quality, and so generous that skipping lunch was an easy option. Overall, I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a peaceful retreat with great hospitality and a perfect beach nearby. I would love to return!

Lovely friendly family who were very welcoming. They helped us get to Ella by arranging transport with one of their friends. The property is about 50m from the beautiful beach and a short walk into the town centre. We were also able to use their kitchen to prepare food.

The place is in a perfect location close to beaches in walking distance. The bed was very comfy and the room in general probably the cleanest I came across in Sri Lanka. The owners are super friendly and helpful. I would definitely return!

We had a lovely stay at Nimal's house. We had the deluxe room with airconditioning and we had our own kitchen. We could make our own breakfast but you can also get breakfast at the hotel. You have hot water if you like. The owners are really really nice. They make you feel really welcome and give you good tips for things in the area. We really recommend it!!

Very lovely place , clean room , comfortable bed. They welcomed us with a big smile and cup od coffe :) There is a common kitchen so you can use it anytime for cooking your own food . Very good Local breakfast ( especially pancakes with coconut) also possible with additional charge. All family is very nice , super helpfull with everything!

Everything was perfect!

Nimal's House boasts a fantastic location for exploring the beautiful southern coast. Conveniently located just 50 meters from the nearest bus station, it's also a mere 10-minute walk to the turtle point, a short stroll to Dickwella beach, and a quick tuk-tuk ride to the vibrant Hiriketiya. The family were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel like part of it. The shared fridge and kitchen were a huge plus, allowing us to prepare some of our own meals. They were always ready with helpful tips and suggestions, and genuinely cared about our comfort and experience. Our only regret was that we only booked four nights. If we had more time, we would have definitely extended our stay.

It is the perfect place to explore the beaches in Dickwella. The homestay is located in a quiet side street just a few minutes from the beach. The family is very friendly and helpful and the breakfast is great. The rooms are clean and there is enough storage space. There is also a very nice kitchen and a big common area.

The families hospitality is exceptional! They met us with iced tea and on our last day they also spent some time with us enjoying the traditional tea. They also taught our son how to play carrom, he was super excited about it. The breakfast was also very delicious, homemade bread, amazing pancakes etc. We have stayed in the standard double room but the bed was big enough for the three of us. Overall it’s a great value for money.

The family was incredibly hospitable. We were offered tea and pancakes and felt very welcome at this accommodation. The room had a large bed, a spacious bathroom, and a well-functioning air conditioner. The location was perfect as it is right by the beach, where we could snorkel with sea turtles in the morning. Even after check-out time, we were allowed to take a shower. The owner also helped us find an affordable tuk-tuk to get to our next destination. We highly recommend this place!

One of my favourite stays in 3 weeks in Sri Lanka. Beautifully clean room, and the most lovely family running the place. They were so helpful and went above and beyond to help with anything. The breakfast was incredible and so much food for a very fair price. You can also swim with turtles walking distance from Nimal’s. Would highly recommend, we wished we could have stayed longer. There was a big kitchen you could use too.

Spacious and clean apartment operated by a very friendly family. Location is 2 min walking from Dickwella beach and 10 mins to the Turtle point beach which is great for kids. Breakfast was the best we had in whole Sri Lanka.

The owner and her family were so kind and accommodating! They welcomed us with juice and went out of their way to cook us a Sri Lankan breakfast each morning. I felt so comfortable and safe during my stay and I would 100% stay again!

A very friendly and helpful family runs this hotel. We had an apartment with two bedrooms, balcony, kitchen and bathroom. Everything was clean. AC and fan working fine. Meals can be provided. The Dickwella beach just across the main road is not so visited and therefore quite quiet and pleasant. We visited Blue Island Beach and Hirikitieya Bay which are also nice but much more crowded.

The small road outside can be quite busy and noisy, but this is only a nuisance when you’re on the balcony.

It’s the perfect choice for anyone seeking a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. The hospitality of the family was exceptional, and the food was absolutely outstanding—the best I had in Sri Lanka! I highly recommend having both breakfast and dinner at the accommodation. I will definitely come back again.

This is just a great guest house in a quiet and peaceful place in Dickwell, very close to the ocean. From the very first minutes, I really liked the Lankan comfort, the cleanliness and hospitality of this place. You can find everything you need for life here. Spacious rooms, excellent Wi-Fi for work, a large kitchen and common areas. I also want to note that the owners of the house were very kind and pleasant in communication and they can help you in absolutely all matters. In the future, I want to come back and stay here again.

You feel so welcome when you arrive there since the owner are super nice. Good communication including recommendation what to See in the area.also the rooms are super clean and well equiped.

Only stayed for one night. I recommend to stay at least 2 nights for the area and this nice place.

Close to turtle beach

Perfect stay, we prolonged by 4 nights because we didn’t want to leave. We could have stayed a whole month. The hosts Kamani and her husband are fantastic. The best food we ate in Sri Lanka was here and we ate all of our meals at the homestay, great prices for amazing meals. The room and bathroom are clean and spacious with air conditioning. Laundry service is available as well.

Nimal and his family were fantastic hosts and made us feel very comfortable from the start..The room was great and had everything we needed.as well as access to their kitchen/living area. Their house is centrally located in Dikwella with Dikwella beach just across the road and Hiriketiya beach only a short walk away. I would highly recommend their house to anyone that is looking for a relaxing place to stay.

The family are delightful. So helpful and kind. The bed is comfortable, the room a little small for us but with plenty of storage. Very close to the beach. As it is off season, many of the restaurants were not operating, however, it was very easy and cheap to get a tuk tuk to restaurants. During peak season. There are many beach front restaurants to choose from. We had a beautiful Sri lankan breakfast cooked by our host, and good coffee.

As its monsoon season there were a lot of mosquitos but our host provided ozzie coils and a plug in for the bedroom.

That was the best home stay experience in Sri Lanka. It is located a few minutes away from the beach. Place is exceptionally cosy, clean and comfortable. Room was just beautiful with nice bed, private bathroom with hot shower and all facilities you can imagine. We used the kitchen for cooking our food which was great after long weeks of traveling. Big thank you for the host family - you made our stay here simply wonderful. We recommend this place if you plan to stay in Dikwella.

Everything was just perfect

Great location - only a short walk to beach with good swimming and turtles. Easy walk into town. Nimal and Kamani gave us a warm welcome and looked after us really well. Breakfasts are huge and very tasty, Sri Lankan style.

The couple Nimal and Kamani gave me a very warm welcome. I felt very well. Whatever questions I had, Kamani was always there to help me. I had only booked for 3 days, but then stayed 9 days. The breakfast was super delicious! Just for that reason I would come back :D. In the end, Nimal even drove me to the bus station and helped me to find the right bus. Thank you for this nice stay.

The Wifi was not working very good. Which for me was no problem because I used my internet, its cheap in Sri Lanka. But its still important to say, especially for people who work while traveling.
