Reviewed Aug 17, 2026Rapport qualité prix exceptionnel Le quartier résidentiel n'est pas touristique donc calme, et a quelque minutes a pied de l'embarcadère. La chambre est grande et confortable. Une machine a laver le linge et une cuisine extérieure sont disponibles. Et surtout, le propriétaire est d'une gentillesse incroyable: nous avons retrouvé un petit déjeuner accroché a notre porte 2 matins !

Reviewed Aug 13, 2026Leuke lokatie doordat je met een bootje naar het centrum kunt varen (in nog geen tien minuten). Erg leuke ervaring. De host is erg vriendelijk.
Het verblijf kon echt schoner. Veel stof en haren op de grond. Ook in het toilet. De koelkast was ook niet fris (voelde vettig aan).

Reviewed Jul 26, 2026Le propriétaire est une personne très agréable, prévenante, disponible. Il nous a offert un délicieux petit déjeuner le premier jour. J'ai apprécié d'avoir sur place une machine à laver le linge. Le prix était peu élevé. L'un des deux lits a un bon matelas. Le ménage avait été correctement fait.
La petite maison dans laquelle nous avons logé est un genre de préfabriqué. Les murs sont très minces, elle est très mal isolée. La nuit, nous avons souffert du bruit continu à l'extérieur : motos, voitures, appel à la prière, animaux (coqs, grenouilles ?), voisins. Le bâtiment est vieillissant et mériterait quelques améliorations.

The owner are friendly and provide excellent service, the rooms are clean and well-maintained, and the location is very convenient. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a comfortable and pleasant stay.

Just keep in mind that while this is very central location wise, you do need to take a boat across the river in order to get to the city centre.

Taking the boat to and from the guesthouse is a chance to be a part of the city's heritage, people have been travelling that way for centuries.

Reviewed Jul 5, 2026老闆非常的親切，會給予很多景點的推薦跟介紹、交通方式，事前確認也很清楚！ 房間是住雙人房有對外窗的，對外的窗是面向庭院的！ 是在住宅區，所以夜晚非常的安靜好睡！ 附近就有小餐廳了，都十分美味～ 老闆也有提供腳踏車，可以沿著河邊騎，蠻舒適的
位置在河的對岸，所以要搭船過去比較麻煩一點，但是是蠻有趣的體驗！有單趟2元跟1元的碼頭，可以去探險試試看不同的碼頭。

Nos llevó a cenar, nos trajo comida en los desayunos, estuvo atento a nuestras necesidades. Fabuloso! La habitación es justa, la cama muy linda! El aire funciona muy bien! Y tienes espacio para cocinar.
Desgraciadamente queda del otro lado del Waterfront, pero quedarte aca supera lo malo.

Der Besitzer sehr hilfsbereit und sehr freuntlich.Du kanst wäsche waschen und kochen.Er hat wenige Bücher zum lesen. Jeden Morgen eine übereschung( Früchte ) War die beste unterkunft in Borneo. Preis leitstug Top. In Kuching die nummer 1.
Es hat leider kein Lädelchen in der nähe.

Reviewed Mar 24, 2026We had a very enjoyable stay here, we loved Kuching but it was lovely staying on the quieter side of the river and getting the ferry across in the morning. We found it was much cheaper in the evening to get back to the homestay by walking across the bridge and getting a Grab from that side of the river, the length of wait for the Grab was slightly longer than getting a Grab in town but it was a quick ride back to the homestay. It was great having access to a washing machine and detergent was provided at no cost.
We liked it all.

El centro de la ciudad queda al otro lado del Río. Si bien no es un problema enorme, t obliga a coger un grab q de la vuelta o a volver antes de que cierren el puente peatonal a las 12 de la noche.

Reviewed Feb 27, 2026Staying at Merdeka Guesthouse 2 in Kuching was a highlight of my trip! The staff (shoutout to Pakcik Matnor!) are incredibly kind, generous, and welcoming, making me feel right at home with their helpful local advice and service. The facilities are impressively complete for a guesthouse, including a washing machine, refrigerator, water heater, iron and iron board, and even a small cooking area. Everything is kept exceptionally clean! I’d give it a 10/10 for cleanliness. Despite the budget-friendly price, the comfort levels are top-tier; with the peaceful village atmosphere and cozy rooms, it truly feels like a 5-star experience in terms of relaxation. It is outstanding value for money, often costing significantly less than the city average while providing better service. The location is also very strategic. Situated in a calm neighborhood across the river, it's just a quick, scenic RM1–RM2 boat ride away from the Kuching Waterfront and main city attractions. Thank you so much Merdeka Guesthouse! 🥳

Reviewed Aug 20, 2025Good place to explore Kuching for a couple of days. It's in a village in front of waterfront and there is a boat until 6pm to cross the river for 2RM. After 6 pm you'll need a Grab to reach the city. Host was nice and responsive on WhatsApp. The room was very small but for the price paid it's ok
Probably going back I'd choose to stay closer to Kuching not to be forced to call a Grab each time, but it was ok and for a couple of days didn't mind

Reviewed Aug 10, 2025Beds were comfy, room was very nice though basic. The room had a fridge, a water heater and aircon plus fan. We liked living in the more rural area and the host is very friendly and helpful.
After 6 p.m. you can't get back by ferry, but walking is fine.. and a GRAB is quite cheap from the city centre.

De ligging midden in een kampong vond ik een bezwaar , aangezien er niets is . Overdag tot 18h oversteek naar het centrum per bootje . Daarna is het lang in het centrum blijven en een lange taxitocht terugnemen .

Cuando llegamos era tarde y llovía, cogió su coche para acercarnos a un restaurante local muy auténtico. El día siguiente nos dejó un pequeño desayuno en la puerta. Estuvo atento al móvil a cualquier solicitud. Si tienes presupuesto ajustado y no buscas lujos este puede ser tú alojamiento. Terima kasih Matnor!
La ubicación es al otro lado del río, lo cual más que inconveniente para nosotros fué ventaja, nos permitió conocer esa parte más humilde de kuching y utilizar un bote muy genuino para cruzar al otro lado del río.

El señor que lleva la casa es encantador, te ayuda con todo lo que puede, nos dejó hacer el check in antes, nos preparó desayuno y no estaba incluido, nos ayudó a saber a dónde ir, etc Como digo, es una experiencia muy local ya que está ubicado en el barrio viejo. Totalmente recomendable si quieres conocer la cultura.
Todo estaba bien.

He went out of his way to drive me around the neighbourhood to introduce me to places to eat, purchase supplies and where to catch a small ferry across the river to the Kuching CBD and the museums. The new Museum of Borneo cultures is the best I've experienced in all of Asia. Staying in a house in a Kampung is special. Not like the usual hotel in a tourist part of town. Instead you find yourself in a friendly community with locals who are eager to connect.

Reviewed Apr 2, 2025La habitación es muy sencilla, pero tiene de todo y está limpia. El dueño es encantador y ha sido super amable antes y durante mi estancia. La ubicación no está mal porque hay un puerto muy cerca de la casa y el barquero te cruza al centro en 2 minutos, pero hay que ser consciente de que siempre se necesita transporte para llegar y por la noche no hay barca, así que siempre toca taxi.
