Splendid Lake View Safari Lodge

Die Lage ist außergewöhnlich: direkt vor der Lodge ein kleiner See, ringsum viel Grün. Schon vom Grundstück aus konnten wir zahlreiche Tiere beobachten, man ist also mitten in der Natur, noch bevor die Safari überhaupt losgeht. Die Unterkunft ist schön gestaltet und fügt sich stimmig in die Umgebung ein. Das Herzstück sind aber die Besitzer. Durchgehend freundlich, zuvorkommend und hilfsbereit, mit Welcome-Drink bei der Ankunft. Bei Safari, Abendessen und Frühstück wurde auf jeden Wunsch eingegangen. Die Safari selbst war perfekt organisiert und hat unsere Erwartungen übertroffen, bei hervorragendem Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. In der Offseason haben wir zusätzlich ohne Aufpreis ein Upgrade auf ein Zimmer mit Klimaanlage bekommen. Absolute Empfehlung für alle, die den Udawalawe Nationalpark besuchen.

L’endroit est tout simplement magnifique :) on a pu voir des martins pecheurs, varant etc :) Les hôtes sont tres gentils et la cuisine est vraiment bonne ! Nous avons egalement fait le safari avec notre hote et c’etait vraiment tres bien ! Il a beaucoup pris le temps de nous expliquer pleins de choses :) Chambre tres joli, bref RAS

Das Guesthouse liegt direkt am See. Es hat ein überdachtes Floss, auf dem wir die Mahlzeiten einnehmen konnten. Sehr idyllisch! Das Essen (Frühstück und Abendessen) hat sehr gut geschmeckt. Die Zimmer sind sehr einfach, aber sauber. Mit dem Gastgeber unternahmen wir eine Safari im Udalawala Park.

Es hatte zu viele Jeeps im Park, die die Elefanten richtig bedrängten. Pro Jeep meistens nur 2 oder sogar nur eine Person, aber Platz für mindestens 4 Pax. Es wäre umwelt- und tierverträglicher die Jeeps zu füllen. Aber dafür kann das Guesthouse nichts.

Madhu is the most gracious host. Whether you are leaving early or arriving late, she is always there to assist you with anything you need. She showered us with elaborate meals throughout our stay there. The best part is that their home overlooks a tranquil lake. We spent hours chatting, bird watching and simply watching the shifting day light there. We did the half day Udawalawe tour with Samantha on the second day and he was so good at spotting wildlife, even when they were well-camouflaged. The rooms were simple, clean and efficient. If you are looking for a budget stay that offers great value, you should definitely consider coming here.

Die Lodge liegt ruhig an einem Gewässer und vermittelt so schon tropische Ferienstimmung - ganz besonders, wenn das Frühstück auf dem Floss möglich ist. Samantha, der Lodgebesitzer, bietet selber Jeepsafaris in den Udawalawe NP an. Seine Erfahrung, Geduld und Humor tragen zu einem tollen Erlebnis bei der Sichtung von Elefanten und vielen weiteren Tieren bei.

Die Gastgeberfamilie zeichnet sich durch außergewöhnliche Freundlichkeit aus. Es fällt mir schwer, die erfahrene Gastfreundschaft angemessen in Worte zu fassen. Wir wurden mit exzellenter Verpflegung und hervorragender Betreuung verwöhnt; auch die Safari war ein unvergessliches Erlebnis. Wir möchten uns herzlich bedanken und werden diesen Aufenthalt stets in bester Erinnerung behalten.

Das hausgemachte Essen war superlecker und die Anlage direkt am See wunderschön. Die Safari war top - insbesondere, da unser Guide/Fahrer viele Tiere abseits des Mainstream gefunden hat.

The owner and his family were really really nice. They cooked for us very good meals, had safari with them and enjoyed our stay

Das Hotel liegt wunderschön an einem kleinen See. Wir hatten ein Zimmer mit Blick zum See und es war herrlich. Die Gastgeber sind sehr freudlich und hilfsbereit. Wir haben eine Safari-Tour mit ihnen gebucht. Das Essen ist hervorragend und frisch von der Familie zubereitet. Am See kann man viele Tiere beobachten. Wir haben den Aufenthalt sehr genossen.

Amazing location, the lake was just perfect to spend the evenings by. Food was perfect too, able to cater to dietary needs. The safari tour was very affordable and reasonable, really informative and felt like I had seen everything. Could not recommend here enough. Thanks very much!

Helt underbart! Vi åkte på safari med Samantha i 7 timmar. Han är den bästa safariguide jag haft, mycket kunnig. Madou lagade fantastisk god mat både frukost och middag. Boendet var rent och fint.

A stunning little hotel by a lake, with the nicest people running it! The property is so incredibly beautiful, and the food there is amazing! Hot water showers, AC, good price on everything, it was really amazing!

The property is well maintained and very peacefully laying right next to a lake. The room was clean and the balcony had a very nice view. Best thing about the accommodation is the lovely lady who is running the place. She was very kind and helpful and her food was truly delicious! I can highly recommend staying here - I would definitely come back.

Super schöne Lage, sehr freundliche Gastgeber und sehr gutes Essen

L’endroit est vraiment spectaculaire avec ce lac et le jardin, c’est vraiment paisible. Le petit déjeuner est incroyable et copieux tout comme le dîner que je n’ai pu terminé car trop grosse quantité. Vraiment ravi de ce séjour, trop court car je suis parti juste après le safari organisé directement sur place à la perfection. N’hésitez pas !

The hosts were so kind and accommodating, they made us feel so at home. The hotel is set in the most beautiful spot with the lake.

Beautiful location; a bit secluded but not a problem to get to via tuktuk. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. The host Muda was so helpful and attentive and she cooked some of the most amazing food we had had on our trip!

It's a very quiet place with Lske View, actually an Island in the Paradise. Excellent food. Very nice, sympathetic and helpful owner.

It was perfect

Beautiful location right at the lake. Ideally for swimming, kayaking, chilling, ... A real little paradise. Very friendly and helpful host family. And delicious food! Breakfast and dinner on the little boat/ponton, surrounded by the lake, jungle, birds singing, .. . Spectacular!!! We also adivice the seven hour safari tour with the host. He has a big knowledge about the wildlife and knows the best spots to spot elephants, crocodiles, monkeys, peacocks, birds, .... Next time we will definitively stay longer to be able to relax and chill next to, in and on the lake! Thank you for the wonderful stay!!! Stuti

Exceptional everything, location is amazingly peaceful right on a lake you can swim in, great safari, a/c room and I have to say the best meal I think I've ever eaten! Ridiculously cheap too

Excellent staff and breakfast! They organized a safari for us which we can also highly recommend! The area is beautiful and you can borrow bicycles to explore the area. For my birthday they even decorated and the dinner was excellent as well.

Charming place and owners. The lake offers a lovely vista and ambience. The owners themselves were very attentive without becoming overbearing. They let us use the canoe, showed us how to collect fishing nets from the lake and made one of the best meals we had during our trip. We also booked a safari with the owner, that we can definitely recommend. He was very respectful of the animals and kept away from larger crowds. Overall a great experience.

We should have stayed longer.

We stayed the night before our safari and loved it here. The hosts were very friendly and informed us that you can swim in the lake. They also provided breakfast and dinner which was delicious and not spicy for anyone who struggles. There’s a sweet dog too.

The bedroom was nicely presented, very clean and with a good balcony view of the lake. The bed was comfortable and the AC worked very well. The dinner was delicious so I highly recommend you try it. Very much worth the 1500rp. Flavourful, a big portion and a superb range of dishes, even with my vegetarian and non-spicy request. Location by the lake is pleasant and I appreciated the advice about the local bus to Tangelle which you can walk 10 minutes to. There seem to be activities on the lake that I think families would enjoy, in addition to safari options which I didn’t try.

Bathroom was a bit cramped and an overhead hot shower was not possible (only hand held hose). A small thing but strimming the grass at breakfast ruined the ambience a bit, so perhaps this could be done at a more thoughtful time? Mosquito net could also be better placed towards centre of the bed - I would wake up with it draped over my feet and legs Finally please reconsider adding a random service charge to the bill. It’s very odd after a room rate - explicitly inclusive of all taxes and charges - has already been agreed through booking.com. If it was for the 1500rp dinner, 200rp is an odd number as this would be a service charge of 13.33%. I’m glad the husband waived this when I asked what it was for, but I shouldn’t have had to ask. I’d not experienced this anywhere else in Sri Lanka and I’ve stayed in 6 different places, from hotels and villas to family homestays.

The family who runs the lodge is lovely. Also, we had really really tasty food there. We did the safari with the owner of the lodge and it was really great. We saw lots of elephants and other animals. The rooms are clean but basic. Price/value is very good but don’t expect a luxury hotel.

The place was beautiful even without the lake with wáter enough to swim. The room was very confortable and had a private balcony with nice views. The breakfast and dinner were delicious. We did the safary tour with the owner and we loved It, he really knows the place, and is very good at spotting small animals like lizards and birds.We saw many elephants, some of them very close! It was fantastic... Highly recomended It!

The hotel is in a quiet and wonderfully idyllic location on a small lake. The room was equipped with everything you need. It was clean and had a balcony with a view of the lake. The warm couple who run the hotel were always friendly, helpful and accommodating. The landlord himself offers high quality safaris, it was a wonderful experience, including a lovingly prepared breakfast in the national park. All wishes regarding transportation, travel tips and extra requests were fulfilled immediately. Another highlight was the incredibly delicious dinner cooked especially for us by the lady of the house, which we were served on the floating platform on the lake. The garden is wonderful. We would come back at any time

This is a very romantic place on the lake side. The owner built a pontoon on the lake and you can have dinner there. It is very nice and quiet. The lady cooked very good beakfast and dinner and her husband drives a safary jeep so we had a full day safari in Udawalawe National Park. Amazing experience!!! Go there!

We only spend one night here to do the morning safari. The room was simple and basic, but fine for one night. The property is beautifully located at a lake, great for a refreshing swim! We could get delicious rice and curry for dinner at the house as well. We went for the morning safari with the host and had a great time, he was very attentive to our wishes, a safe and skilled driver and very respectful of nature and the animals in the park. We highly recommend!

We loved the Lake surroundings and being able to eat next to and swim in the lake. The host was very attentive without being around too much. We could also book and go on a Jeep safari to the National Park directly with him. The safari was fantastic- we saw so many elephants. The room and shower was great for our needs- air con, fan, good bathroom, nice beds. We would have stayed longer if we had had more time. Highly recommended

Beautiful location on a small lake, great food, very friendly and helpful owners, small but clean rooms. And the owner Samantha is providing the best safari tours at Udawalawe National Park. Book an all-day tour with him, you will not regret it. We met many tourists doing a 4h tour starting in the early morning who haven’t seen a single elephant. We started later, but took our time and went deep into the park. At the end of the day we saw more than 50 elephants, 5 crocodiles and many other animals.

I was welcomed warmly by Ms. Mudi, she gave me some suggestions about what I could do close by, and later cooked the best Sri Lankan dinner I've had here. The breakfast was also good. The owner also took me on a safari, and gave a fair price. The room was spacious and clean, and plus points there was hot water and AC. I came because of a recommendation from a friend, and would definitely recommend the place to others in the future.

We stayed here for one night and thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon safari experience at Udawalawe national park with the host, who was both knowledgeable of the park and respectful of the animals which we appreciated. The room was clean and the dinner and breakfast provided were delicious. The lodge is set on a lake which offered another opportunity to spot the amazing local wildlife in the morning before we headed off.

Very nice homestay with delicous food and very kind and friendly staff. Safari Tour will be organized too, so easy stay and comfortable option. They will help you with everything you need, further transport etc.

Very nice place for doing a Safari. The host provided a great Safari just for us two and managed to show us the animals and nice places a bit of from the most other Safari groups. We enjoyed a sundowner beer on the balcony and a delicious breakfast in the garden at the lake. The hosts were really friendly. We had the a room with a balcony which we would recommend.

The House next to the river is beautiful! It's clean and you have AC in your room. The Family is so friendly and help you with everything! They organised a wonderfull Safari for me! They speaking good english and you can learn a lot about the animals and plants. They will cooking good and as much as you can eat Sri Lankan food for you, you can choose your dinner, no problem if you are vegetarien! I really enjoyed my stay and can highly recommend!

The hosts were awesome. They are a married couple, the wife runs the hotel and provides lovely breakfast whereas the man does the safari. We arrived on very short notice but they still organized a safari for us the next morning. The safari is definitely recommendable. We got a full day safari with more than the usual showing of elephants but also a lot of explanations about birds, plants, crocodiles and a lot more for a reasonable price.

We did the 7 hour safari with the owner and it was very good. It was possible to take the bicycles for a ride to the city

The place was a great spot to stay for a night to do the safari, because the safaris organized here are just amazing. We had the best time with our guide who showed us all of the animals (not just elephants) even though it was raining a lot at fist. Highly recommend doing a safari with him. The accommodation is also nice by the lake, but a bit rustic. The food was great and we loved the little pavilion by the shore.

Me and a friend booked the room for one night to do a safari at the Udawalawe National Park and simultaneously booked the safari over the Lake View Lodge which worked really well. The communication went smooth and our host was so nice, polite and helpful. We were greeted personally and got some tea on arrival. The room was very clean and we really enjoyed our stay. Thank you for the very nice service, we will definitely recommend this place! Unfortunately it was raining heavily on the day of our arrival so we did not get to swim in the lake directly next to the lodge which our host mentioned on the next day! Additionally, our driver for the safari was really polite and nice!
