Reviewed Sep 11, 2026The cottage had everything you could want in a holiday home: full kitchen, microwave, large fridge, heating/cooling, electric blankets on the beds, free WIFI, and even a washing machine and clothesline for each cottage - perfect after weeks of travelling throughout New Zealand with limited access to laundry facilities.

Reviewed Jun 14, 2026The cottage was very warm, easy instructions and comfortable. It was very nice to have a washing machine in the unit so we could do some laundry after a week of travelling. Location is a short drive into town.
We weren't able to use the dryer as someone else was using it for two hours at least, so we took our washing to the laundromat to dry but otherwise everything else was lovely.

Reviewed Jun 10, 2026Wunderschöne, gemütliche Cottages. Alles sehr sauber und ordentlich. Ortsmitte und Strand von Hokitika sind fußläufig erreichbar. Die Besitzer sind super nett und hilfsbereit und haben uns sogar noch ein weiteres Klapp-Bett zur Verfügung gestellt.
Wir waren mit 4 Erwachsenen und Baby in einem Cottage. Und das ist doch recht eng. Vor allem die Küche/Esstisch sind eigentlich nur für zwei Personen nutzbar.

Board games and books. Really nice throw blankets for curling up on the couch with. Plenty of crockery, full oven and fridge freezer. I stayed for 3 nights. It was also comfortable to work from in the evening

Reviewed May 30, 2026We stayed for a night on our way to Christchurch. Hokitika is such a charming and relaxed town with so much culture and heritage. The accomodation was very comfortable. We stayed in cottage B which was facing the road Lovely, clean and cosy cottage which had everything we needed. The hosts whom we did not meet were very friendly on the chats, kept us updated with everything.
Wished we had stayed for another night.

Reviewed May 22, 2026Modern and warm. The heat pump had been turned on for us before we arrived. The shower was stunningly wonderful!! Beds and pillows very comfy. Quality accommodation, fittings and furnishings. 12 minutes walk to the centre for food and wine!
WIFI was quite slow. They could do with providing separate shower gel, shampoo and conditioner.

Reviewed May 10, 2026The location of Amberlea Cottages is ideal, our Cottage D was so very clean, spacious and well equipped with so many extras, it felt like home. The washing machine in our large bathroom was an absolute bonus and being able to use the communal clothes dryer made it so easy to have our luggage packed in advance of the next morning’s departure.
Only having a one night stay in Hokitika and in this perfect cottage.

It was great to have a washing machine at our disposal (and hanging clothesline and also a shared dryer). Cottage and grounds were well maintained and pristine. It's walking distance to many restaurants / eateries. Highly recommend staying here.
