Reviewed Sep 17, 2026It was a weekend of tranquility. Mark and James were ever ready to assist. The units were clean and neat. We planning our next trip to Ikaya. Nicely priced, cozy and homey atmosphere. Loved that we could walk down a few metres to the river mouth and heach to fish.

Maybe due to the location of the property, we all developed allergic reactions during our stay but I would visit again.

Reviewed Sep 14, 2026Firstly, big shout out to our host Mark for being just a stand up guy and making sure we had everything we needed. We will definitely stay at Ikaya again! Loved that it takes only 5min to the beach. The place is nice and quiet and getting fresh caught fish was the peek of our stay, honestly... I'd make my escape to this place anyday. Except next time I will pay for a room with a view 😁
I really cannot complain about anything about the place. Except for the silly monkeys who were always on the lookout for our food... Other than that, there's absolutely nothing I can think of

Appliances outdated sink to wash dishes poor handle on the tap kept falling out. The bedding and duvet not sure if it was washed. Pots and pans in very poor condition. Bathroom had a bad odor. Even after I put in detergent.Plants over grown on pathways, walking through is a challenge This property has potential to be great.

Reviewed Aug 7, 2026Location is good, next to the river mouth and the 2nd beach. The site is secured with CCTV cameras, which gives you a sense of being safe. The host made frequent contact with us before the trip to confirm our arrival times. We arrived just before 20h00 & there was someone ready to open the gate to the establishment.
1. It was the first time ever I was booked in an accommodation that does not have a television set. 2. While I understand that it was not advertised as a self catering unit, it was odd that there was a kettle, two cups & no sugar, teabags/coffee or milk. The kettle & cups are useless if you arrived at night when all the town shops are closed. 3. There is a shortage of plug points, in this day and age we travel with multiple devices that needs to be charged, cellphones, tablets, laptops, etc. One plug point next to the headboard is just not good enough. 4. The toilet did not flush properly, showed signs of getting blocked. 5.

Reviewed Jul 8, 2026The proximity to the beach and location are unmatched. This tropical paradise spot didn’t even feel like South Africa! Everything about the hotel is clean, well thought out and great value for money. The gardens are also very pretty with sunrise views right at your doorstep.
Screens on the opening windows could be helpful for mosquitos and bugs so you can still keep the airflow without worrying about getting bitten.

The music pounding every night till 4am in the morning was so loud that we battled to sleep. The beds were also not comfortable. The street party over the estuary and tavern noise should have been explained because it is sooooo bad that it is totally unacceptable!!

Music from a tavern over the river played extremely loud music every night till 4am. I understand the owners may have little control over this but it should have been mentioned. Most of us struggled to sleep

Reviewed Jun 21, 2026The view from the guesthouse is incredible. The facilities were clean and recently refurbished. Fantastic, hot shower in the bathroom. Quick access to Second Beach. Safe and secure stay.
I think the only gripe we had with the facilties/amenities was that the bed, which was fairly new, had quite a firm mattress. We were told by our host, so we anticipated it and managed to sleep well. I think one major detractor that caught us off guard was the drive all the way from Mthatha to Port St Johns, and the Greater Port St Johns. The Eastern Cape have some of the country's most incredible sights. But, it is ruined by the complete absence of law enforcement and dilapidated, lack of infrastructure and city/municipal planning. It is a massive chore being tourist in the once renowed Port St Johns. Ikaya and its views were incredible; but the town needs an urgent revival!

Reviewed Jun 18, 2026Lovely place for those who aren't expecting luxury. It is rustic but comfortable, equipped with all one needs to stay for a few days.
I wouldn't change anything about the accommodation, just be weary when going in to town. Lots of potholes in the road, speed bumps and livestock as well. There was a party across the way from the property but luckily for us it rained that night so the noise was little to none. Safety outside the accommodation is questionable as well.

Le lit n’était vraiment pas confortable… très dur. Ce n’est pas bien insonorisé, le matin tôt, on se fait réveiller par les singes qui courent sur le toit ou les chiens qui aboient. Il n’y avait pas de télévision, ce qui aurait pu être bien!

The host was very Rude..we were treated very unfairly.. They did advertise shared kitchen which is fine but if you are accomadating 3 families..you should gave a decent kitchen to fit 3 full families to be able to cook as people generally gave the same breakfast lunch and dinner times. We were .9 People wirh 3 children..we had to wait to use the kitchen and braii facility also was being used so we were told yo wait till others guests were done.. We checked in only at like 9.30pm..and they expected us to wait for kitchen and braii area to eat.. They were extremely Rude re the children.told my sister-in-law law that her children should be kept quiet by 10pm..and if not she will handle them and teach them manners..thank This is totally not acceptable. We lost money on this accomadation and move to another.. A big loss for us.

Reviewed May 1, 2026Die Unterkunft schaut gut aus, bedurfte aber wieder einer Renovierung. So hängt z.B. die türe zum Badezimmer etwas schräg und kann nur mit Kraftaufwand geschlossen werden. Wenn man für die ruhige Lage und den tollen Blick bereit ist über einiges hinwegzusehen, ist es eine Empfehlung.

The reviews and photos about this property are false and misleading. The property is lush and overgrown, accommodation is poor. Literally a shack. Furnishings are basic and old. Ants were nesting on the wall at the room's entrance. We left immediately after check in as the place is below standard. The host was not great. Very disappointing as we had checked previous reviwes

I love thier hospitality, The accommodation was tidy nice and cosy. The place is beautiful and I love nature. I will definitely come again if a chance present it self. There was no wardrobe and a television those are the only two things I didn't like about the place. Almost forget something important most people from PSJ do not know about the place, even taxi drivers do not know about Ikaya accommodation. Please make some billboards and place them in town so that people will know about your place you will get more clients trust me. Another thing that needs to be taken care of its the running water at the main gate

It was my 3rd time there, that’s just how much I love the place. The view is to die for especially in the morning watching sunrise ❤️ definitely coming back for the 100th time!
Could use a little bit of an upgrade, nothing luxurious but decent like maybe tiles on the floor, a TV and maybe Wi-Fi but I don’t care much about it! Otherwise everything is perfect 👌🏽
