Thistle Cottage

The cottage was absolutely perfect. Tranquil and peaceful. A bonus to enjoy opening the curtains in the morning and seeing the 4 sheep grazing away and the cows in the background. A definate gem !!

Everything about Thistle Cottage exceeded our expectations. Utterly fabulous. Clean, warm, peaceful. Despite not meeting our hosts personally, our interactions where always pleasant and helpful. We would love to come again. Highly recommend.

The place was very quiet and the heating was more than enough, which made our stay comfortable.

The WiFi was unfortunately very poor and we couldn’t really use it during our stay. Hopefully this can be improved for future guests.

Michelle is a very thoughtful owner, keep leaving comments until we check-in, and the house is in the manor, my family all very like this place.

some bad people may ruin the cottage, this rendered the kitchen unusable, if you want to use the kitchen, most thing you should cook at outside BBQ supplies, a little inconvenient, but it doesn't affect the fact that this is a very good place to stay.

We liked everything about the property! It was spotlessly clean, quiet, had everything we needed and was tastefully decorated. Also, Michelle the host is lovely.

It was not relaxing. It felt like we were not allowed to do anything - restrictions around cooking, where to go in three garden, closing curtains etc. We went out to eat so that we wouldn't violate any rules Also bed was very hard, my back was in agony in the morning.

Great location, property was well appointed and hosts were great with the communication. Highly recommend.

It was a great location situated just outside of Ashburton. It’s a divine cottage that offers a relaxing vibe where you can enjoy the scenery and farm animals. Perfect place to curl up and read a book or set up shop as your home away from home.

The cottage was very comfortable and presented in very clean condition. The location was extremely quiet and private. The cottage is large and having two bedrooms is a bonus.

Perhaps more signage as you approach the sheds with arrows pointing to the cottage and perhaps a sensor light on the sheds so you a see the driveway. It’s a little confusing if you arrive at night. The sensor light on the cottage wasn’t working but did work when switched on manually

The location is in the farm, surrounded by sheep and lamb. Very lovely surroundings. And also not far from town. Kitchen well equipped. Beds and bathroom are clean and cozy.

Loved the location and rural surroundings, the actual cottage was just lovely and very well appointed. Being able to park my race car and trailer in a safe and private location was an absolute bonus. Host was awesome to deal with. Liked it all, just in case you couldn’t tell.

We stayed at Thistle cottage immediately following our wedding. What a beautiful and peaceful location! Thistle cottage is beautifully appointed, the bed is so comfortable, and it feels like you’re a million miles from any hustle and bustle. Michelle is a wonderful host and was only a text message away. Would highly recommend as an alternative to any of the accomodation in Ashburton - it’s only a 7min drive from the highway and 9min from town.

This was our second stay and thoroughly enjoyed it again. The cottage is large and light filled. The decor is top quality and it is so peaceful and secluded with sheep as your neighbor. The beds are comfortable and the bath has a great shower. Everything one could want for a relaxing time. If you forgot adult beverages, good wines and beer are available for purchase. It is only about a 4 minute drive on busy Hwy 1 but so much nicer than being in town. Michelle the host is wonderful and soon becomes a cherished friend.

Loved the location. It was set amongst lovely gardens and paddocks. The decor was country Hampton. The cottage has large bedrooms beautifully decorated with a cosy lounge. Lovely to sit and look out the windows at the sheep and lovely green grass.

Totally exceptional. We’re on a trip where we’ve stayed in 7 properties. This was the best. Trees and lawns around, longer grass areas to offer contact with nature, lots of birds and birdsong, amenities excellent. Michelle lovely.

Everything was perfect. There were even six types of wine in the refrigerator that we could purchase at a reasonable price. There were sheep all around, but you couldn't hear them through the well insulated windows. It was really delightful.

A friendly welcome from our host. The country atmosphere was so peaceful and relaxing. A short 10 minute drive from town. Apartment had everything we needed. Beautiful gardens .

This cottage was modern and very well presented in a nice private setting and looking out to a private lawn with mature trees around the perimeter. Very comfortable beds and large sized bedrooms, all tastefully decorated with a large lounge/ kitchen area. I would have liked to have stayed longer in this peaceful and relaxing cottage. When we first arrived we felt it was a wee way out of town, but when we went back to town for diner and back it seemed so close and easy to find. I will be back for sure.

The bathroom was a bit different as to get to the master bedroom you had to go through it, so if you were in the master bedroom and your friends were in the bathroom, you would not be able to get out unless you went out the ranch slider to the outside. But this works fine if your just a couple on your own.

A beautiful cosy and peaceful cottage. It is immaculately kept and very comfortable and the finished decor is beautiful. The bed & shower were also superb. Would have loved to stay more than one night but we were departing for the airport which is not too far away. Michelle was an excellent host. Thank you, Michelle.

Very cosy and peaceful! Nice clean bedsheets and plenty of space. Michelle, the host, was very responsive and helpful. We loved seeing the lambs, sheep and cows in the fields nearby. We saw a rabbit too!

Most of the holiday homes we stayed at in New Zealand had a dishwasher, which would have been good here as it has an otherwise complete kitchen. TV in bedroom is unfortunately not hooked up to Sky/Freeview so is only good for streaming.

Having two separate bedrooms was just what we were after, and this property did not disappoint with amenities available. The setting was so tranquil and relaxing, with lambs close by and a lovely peaceful garden.

Location was off the beaten track, very quiet and private, which was exactly what we were looking for. Beautiful setting and very comfortable.

Lovely cottage with everything we need. Great view looking out from the living hall, with many sheeps nearby. A good place to unwind after a long haul flight.

To enter one of the bedrooms, you need to pass thru the bathroom/toilet. Inconvenient when someone is using the bathroom, you cannot enter the bedroom or come out from bedroom. Other than this, everything else is great.

Delightful place to stay. Near Lake Hood and not far from Ashburton. Clean, beautifully decorated and cosy and warm. We enjoyed our stay at Thistle Cottage and will definitely recommend and return in the future. Thank you Michelle.

Connecting bathroom to bedroom - feel a bit trapped in bedroom when someone else is using the bathroom.

It had a lovely rural outlook with some nosey sheep, which added to the ambience! Very comfortable beds and lovely shower. Recommended.
