Reviewed Sep 18, 2026This place is very good. A big room and bathroom. Very clean and comfortable with coffee maker and kettle. Franky encouraged me to put my motorbike in his garage, which is a real bonus in a busy town. It's a ten minute walk to the Menin Gate and town centre. The ramparts walk is also close by. Highly recommended.
The only slight negative is that if you have mobility problems you might be affected by the steep and narrow staircase.

In de kamer had je wat weinig privacy, omdat de deur naar de badkamer van glas was. Maar dan moet ik iets noemen hè ;)

This BnB is outstanding and a credit to the owner Franky who was so friendly, helpful and his attention to detail 100% on point 👌 Very clean 2 bedroom apartment, with kitchenette & a life saver was the air con in both bedrooms was so needed and the rooms had everything you needed, coffee machines, plenty of seating & storage and free WiFi it was such a great stay! This will be my go to place now every time I come to Ypres & when visiting the WW1 battle sites. To Franky thank you 🙏 your place really made the trip for us was so good meeting you.

Reviewed May 24, 2026Super fijne accommodatie, goed bed, airco, rolluiken en binnen 10 minuutjes in het mooie centrum van Ieper. Gastheer Franky was super behulpzaam en stond bij vragen gelijk paraat met een oplossing. Echt top!
Kan eigenlijk niks verzinnen dus doe ik dat ook niet :)

Reviewed May 17, 2026Het Houten Paard is een kleinschalig B & B in de stad Ieper. Er zijn twee mogelijkheden om gebruik te maken van de enorm goed verzorgde B & B. De ruimste is op de twee verdieping en is prima ingericht. Op de eerste verdieping is een kleinere B & B met weliswaar alle faciliteiten, maar de ruimte is wat beperkt. Het slapen, de ambiance en de enorm hulpvaardigheid van de host zijn geweldige pluspunten. Voor een paar dagen Ieper en omgeving is Het Houten Paard een aanrader !

Reviewed May 17, 2026De ligging: heel dicht bij het centrum, maar toch rustig. De service van de gastheer. Franky stond altijd klaar. Van het bakken van eitjes bij het ontbijt, tot het bezorgen van een paraplu bij regenweer. We zijn heel aangenaam ontvangen.
De beperkte ruimte in de badkamer. Maar dit is qua indeling van ruimte niet anders haalbaar denk ik.

Reviewed Mar 18, 2026Perfecte locatie, goed bed en vooral goede kussens. Alles was proper, ruim en mooi ingericht. De check-in is een self check-in en wij houden hiervan dus voor ons was dit ideaal. Franky deed 's avonds een babbeltje met ons en was telefonisch zeer bereikbaar. Zeer sympathieke man.

The facilities were clean and everything worked as advertised. The town of Ypres has a lot of history of the Great War, everywhere you go you shall encounter it. Worth paying a visit.

Reviewed Aug 6, 2025Zeer vriendelijke ontvangst, parkeren voor de deur. Onze fietsen mochten in de garage achter gesloten deur en we hadden daarvan de sleutel. De B&B ligt op loopafstand van het centrum van Ieper, in een hele rustige straat. De kamer is ruim, met een goed bed en heerlijke douche. De ontbijtruimte heeft een koelkast waarvan gebruik gemaakt mag worden. Er staat een Nespresso koffiemachine, een waterkoker en servies. Alles zeer proper. Ook op de kamer is ook een waterkoker. Wij hebben genoten van ons verblijf!

Reviewed Jul 7, 2025The host was just the best. Was there to welcome me, even though I was late due to Calais port strike and helped me with so much information. On street parking great. Nothing was too much trouble. Felt so much at home. Will definitely go back.
Breakfast offered was expensive at 18 euros, so glad I took my own. Plentiful tea, coffee etc and great little kitchenette though just outside my room in which to prepare and eat.

Reviewed Dec 8, 2024I was impressed with Franky on his customer service and easy instructions. For example, where to park your car and several options to make your stay pleasant. I have not met him on my stay but he made sure everything was in place for both check-in and Out. Will book again when I am back in Leper. Highly recommended.

Spotless room, spacious, small things like face clothes and a kitchen area (aside from our room) to eat takeaway. Quiet location but still only a 10 minute stroll to menin gate. Clean, modern and accessible. Super comfy bed, great orthopedic pillows with AC and heating! If we came back to Ieper, we'd stay in this place again, no doubt!

Reviewed Jun 23, 2024The hotel was ideally located for our road trip exploring the Battlefields. The room was of an exceptionally high standard, with no faults whatsoever. Ample parking was available nearby, and the property was easy to find. The owner was extremely helpful and provided a fresh breakfast each morning. The property was within walking distance of the town center, which offered an excellent selection of restaurants and bars, and Menin Gate was also conveniently close by.

Reviewed Jun 20, 2024Appears to be a new business, still getting the breakfast arrangements sorted out, so drinks were available but no food on the days that we were there. Not a big issue for us, we could easily deal with it. Everything else was excellent. A good location, parking easily available, room clean, comfortable, very good facilities. I would definitely recommend this place.
As above, breakfast arrangements need sorting out, then the whole experience will be excellent. There was nothing that would put us off using Het Houten Paard again.
