Reviewed Aug 26, 2026Very clean well laid out rooms, easy access and fantastic views. Super quiet and Super Private. New feel to the accomodation, even tho the view of the mountain was hidden by low cloud, the views into the vally made up for it. very well kept grounds. I would recommend this spot.

Reviewed Aug 7, 2026The views, the location, the bath, the quiet, the privacy! Including breakfast was a bonus even if we didn't make use of it, the option is always a plus!
As someone who's worked in accommodation, having guests strip the beds was always a bonus find but never have we expected or even asked paying guests to have to do housekeeping, especially with a check out time before 11am and only TWO places to prep. Tipping for laundry was a bit off putting as well seeing as the ammenaties were provided. We stayed in the room with bunks as the main room was very small and the door kept hitting me when trying to get past the bed. When housekeeping jobs are asked of the guest, you definitely don't want to see greasy finger marks all over the kitchen draws... If you aren't stripping beds extra care could be taken here.

Reviewed Aug 3, 2026Such a comfortable stay in a lovely, peaceful location. Great views in the morning and the hosts were lovely and arranged an onsite massage for me which was much needed. It was the perfect little getaway cabin for my first time in New Plymouth and I can't wait to go back in the summer!

All was very good but we struggled a bit with the drainage of the barrier free shower.

Reviewed May 31, 2026Very clean and comfortable facilities. Beautiful views especially at sunrise. Lovely to have breakfast supplied and the option of a hot bath post-hike.
Small downside is the distance from the city centre - 15mins drive through rural roads. But you can’t beat the serenity and peace of being right up close to the mountains!

Reviewed Mar 26, 2026The Tui Cabin at Mangorei heights was truly amazing. It was a great place to have a lovely break away. The outdoor bath was amazing, and was very nice after a 13km hike. It was great having milk, bread, cereal chocolate and wine provided etc. The only things missing, a tea towel and bathroom towel mat for the floor! Loved the place! Will be back soon!

Loved soaking in the tub outdoors and looking at the stars and moon in the sky. Excellent location for the Pouakai crossing hike which we thoroughly enjoyed! Highly recommend this lovely place and will return.

Super schöne, geschmackvoll zusammengestellte Ausstattung, Küche komplett mit allen notwendigen Utensilien, es gab sogar Öl und Gewürze. Zum Frühstück konnte man Brot, Kaffee, Tee, Milch, Müsli, verschiedene Aufstriche, Butter usw. nehmen. Die Flasche Wein und Schokolade als zusätzliche Aufmerksamkeit ist so nett. Wir hatten uns auch eine der angebotenen Brotzeitplatten bestellt - sehr lecker und reichlich. Die Aussicht und die Lage der Häuser ist unbezahlbar. Vielen Dank für den wunderschönen Aufenthalt an die tollen Gastgeber.

Reviewed Jan 30, 2026Die Lage ist wunderschön. Man hat einen sehr schönen Blick auf das Meer und hinter dem Haus auf den Mount Taranaki. Man könnte viel mehr aus dem B&B machen.
Das Bad ist sehr klein und leider nicht so sauber, wie man es erwarten könnte (Stockflecken in der Dusche, Toilette). Zum Frühstück wurden zum Teil angebrochene Lebensmittel zur Verfügung gestellt (Butter, fast leeres Nutellaglas). Es gab keine Marmelade. Wir haben schließlich für uns selbst eingekauft und unsere eigenen Sachen zum Frühstück gegessen. Das B&B war eher enttäuschend und wir können es leider nicht empfehlen.

The weather was really bad when we arrived, and we couldn’t really put our wet shoes and clothes anywhere, we could have used a mop to wipe the floor with. (And the breakfast was really boring.)

We expected it but there were a lot of mosquitoes and sandflies. Maybe bug repellant could help.

Shower had great pressure but as it was set up as accessible access, the water wasn’t contained and made the whole bathroom quite wet

Reviewed Dec 25, 2025Geweldig verblijf. 2 slaapkamers en een buitenbad (!). Alles was aanwezig, van keukengerei tot badjassen en de mogelijkheid om de was te doen. Het fijnste verblijf wat we gehad hebben tijdens onze rondreis door nieuw zeeland.
Niks. Zelf het regenachtige weer kon deze mooie locatie niet verpesten.

Reviewed Sep 19, 2025Stayed in a stormy night - big winds and rain - location is stable, warm, perfectly cosy, feels safe and secure. Even in the midst of the clouds it’s a beautiful place.
Couldn’t provide a view of Taranaki :( - otherwise the only thing we didn’t like is that we couldn’t stay longer. Be aware it’s a long way out - that’s the point of course.

Reviewed Jun 11, 2025This was a lovely place to unwind and regroup during a 5 week stay travelling round New Zealand. I’d highly recommend this. You can see New Plymouth and the sugar loaf islands and Taranaki is a short drive away. Take your food for the evening and enjoy the bottle of wine and chocolate left by Shaan ❤️

To wake up the next morning and look at a volcano is something that I will never forget. The view from the balcony is beautiful with the sun shining. Will definitely be back on our next visit. 10/10.

Reviewed May 20, 2025Breakfast was continental, which was fine. Coffee, tea , milk, cereal, toast, butter and a choice of spreads. The wine and chocolate were a nice surprise. The outside bath overlooking the valley was lovely and felt indulgent. When the clouds cleared there was a fabulous view of Mount Taranaki. Easily accessible to great walking tracks
Bathroom was very small but adequate. Be aware that this accommodation is was a bit out of town, so best be prepared to take your own food for dinner.
