This is a super cosy stay in Nuwara Eliya, and we loved our two nights here. Firstly the location is great, being a 10 minute walk away from the town (old post office etc). The rooms were comfortable, and we were given extra blankets for the cold, the bathroom was clean, and spacious. The breakfast both days were excellent, first was the English style breakfast with eggs and toast, and our second day was Sri Lankan style - I recommend the Sri Lankan breakfast so make sure you ask for it. Our hosts were superb, very kind with lots of offers of tea. We are taking the train to Ella and they helped us confirm the confusing train times, and booked us a tuk tuk to the station (the driver stopped to let us take scenic photos). I highly recommend Hill Town cottage when you come to Nuwara Eliya!

The hotel is located up on the hill in a quiet neighborhood away from the noise of the city. I didn’t feel like I was staying at a hotel but at somebody’s beautiful home. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff were pleasant and nice.
Everything was good and pleasant during my stay.
Very nice house, a big breakfast, comfortable beds, and a good location.
The bathroom definitely needs a refresh. The man who works there was very persistent in offering transportation and organizing everything. The same conversation came up every time we met. I know he was trying to be helpful, but over time it became tiring.
Alles passend.
Great staff
We only stayed one night here. It was a welcome respite from the heat and humidity in other parts of the country, and the hot shower was very welcome! The rooms are comfortable, quiet, with views over the town. It was easy to walk down and visit Victoria Park, the Post Office etc. The employee, Ragu, recommended a good local restaurant. He was there in the morning to prepare a delicious breakfast, always smiling and ready to help.
The rooms were fairly pricey by Sri Lankan standards, but I think that's Nuwara Eliya for you...
Kind staff, nice garden
The bed was really hard, the blankets too cold and to much light in the room for a sensitive sleeper
Very nice clean room and bathroom. Pretty close to the centre of town but also very quiet at night. Great breakfast! As someone else mentioned there is no heating so it can be a bit cool but this was a nice break from the heat of the rest of the country. They provide cozy blankets so it didn’t bother us!
Balcony could use a little washing to make it more pleasant to spend time on, but not a big problem.
Personal amable
10/10 The property was well maintained and gave a very pleasant feel. The owner received us warmly and even offered tea on arrival, which was a nice gesture. Raghu, the caretaker, was exceptional—always helpful and attentive throughout our stay. The food was excellent. We enjoyed both Indian breakfast and dinner. Dinner, especially the roti with mixed vegetable curry, was simply outstanding. The owners (husband and wife) were very friendly and made us feel at home. With such hospitality and service, our overall experience was wonderful. Gardens are very well maintained. Though it was cold (13degrees) we enjoyed a lot at this property.
Sorry, I do not have anything like that.
Everything is likeable! Starting from the location, the property, the staff, the tea, breakfast and the room of course! I wish I spent more time here! Definitely worth visiting again and again!
There's nothing that comes in here to be honest.
Goede ligging, vriendelijke mensen.
Very good experience at this hotel! The breakfast was really nice and Ragú is a very good host, he tell us about things to do in Nuwara Eliya and recommend a very good local restaurante!
Location is good, breakfast was good, room was clean
It was very cold overnight and room was cold with no ac. When I asked the owners I got a heater but she came and take it after 15 min. She did bring a wool blanket but it was smellly and seemed not clean . Ended up not sleeping entire night
The weather and accomodations and behavior is good
Great stay, like home! Clean, good beds, hot water. Quiet, beautiful house! 10 min walk to the city center. The owner is very friendly and helpful, always there for us. Radhu took us on a hike and showed us interesting places in the area. Nuwara Eliya is a nice place and the road here is interesting. I definitely recommend this guesthouse and would come again! Thank you!
Brilliant for a short stay in Nuwara Eliya. Small walk from the town centre in a quiet location. The large room and bathroom provided a lot of comfort for our short stay. Tea or coffee was provided on arrival and in the morning. They arranged for our tuk tuk for an early check out. Very satisfied.

Staff were available at the property 24/7 and were incredibly helpful. We did a guided walking tour with Ragu to the tea plantations and local farms which we really enjoyed. Lovely property with a common lounge area so you can sit somewhere other than your bedroom.
Nothing
Loved the faded charm of this old colonial building. Relaxing spot to take tea! Staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. Away from hustle and bustle, but easily walkable to restaurants etc. Staff arranged a great Tuk Tuk tour, with Ranji, to Hakgala gardens and Lovers Leap waterfall.
Would have preferred service charge included up front. It came as a surprise (my mistake for not scrolling?).
The facilities and staff excellent
The price in SLR and USD was different.
the staff is nice to give us help. A very sweet stay!
We really enjoyed our stay at Hill Town Cottage. The peaceful location is ideal as it’s close enough to the centre of town for a walk to all the main sights, but out of the busy traffic. It is also close to some good cafes including the excellent Noshers. We had a good balcony and the room was really clean and well equipped. The staff were friendly and breakfast was ok.
Very friendly place just a short walk from town. Super host who gave us a great breakfast and organised a tuk tuk outing which we enjoyed. Would thoroughly recommend a stay here
All good
Absolutely loved our stay. Ragu was so helpful, attentive and kind. Enjoyed all of our interactions with him. Great location - walkable to anywhere but quiet. The room was fantastic - a large space with a very comfy bed and great shower (best in our travels here). The common spaces are equally as great. Comfortable sitting places inside and out to enjoy the flower gardens and a cup of tea.
Loved everything.
Nice, helpful and friendly staff. Good breakfast. Nice garden. Nice sorroundings in the Guesthouse, which reminded us of the history in the city.
A bit mould in the bathroom.
Super comfy room and very friendly staff, perfect for some relaxing time
Slightly away from the hustle and bustle of the town, but close enough to walk I to town. The hosts were so friendly and made for a very enjoyable stay. Big breakfast.
The location. Also the receptionist Chamila is really kind and helpful.
Lovely staff, super clean place, and good breakfast. They helped me organize transport to and from the train station as well as a little tour of view points.
My room was a bit cold as it was really rainy the first day, but the bed had a thick blanket on it, so I was warm and slept well.
Location is good and near to the city, Staff so nice! Will come back for sure!
Nothing
We felt at home - staff was very helpful, big continental breakfast including tasty fruit plate, comfy beds. Sights such as the Post Office, a British Cemetery as well as Victoria Park are in walking distance
Furniture a bit dated
Everything I prefer to stay in Sri Lanka, the owner Daniel is a friendly, generous and classy man. They also help with whatever you need. Thank you.
Nothing
Excellent property managed by a family. I visited with my kids. They just loved it and the dog lucky.
Take payment only cash. That's an issue for us as we preffed credit card.
The bedrooms and bathrooms were clean and tidy. The host was friendly and helpful. The place is near the town center and restaurants. The room looked nice and it was a nice place to relax. I recommend this place to anyone.
None
Lovely little hotel with old world charm, and staff that take the best care of you. The view is lovely, location perfect, walking distance from the main market, and not too far from the main tourist attraction Gregory Lake. Raghu was so very helpful, noticing on the first day what foods we had more, or less of, and adjusting accordingly. Chamilla always checked if we needed anything. I would recommend this place.
The staff were super friendly and gave great advice for our stay in Nuwara Eliya. The breakfast was abundant with the choice of an English breakfast. The common area was comfortable and the gardens were well looked after. The location was easy walking distance to the town centre and very quiet.
It was probably due to the downpour before we arrived but the room smelled of damp. It would have been nice to have a little heating in the dining area.
Superb place
Location
The host was amazing! Recommended us an amazing restaurant for diner and all the staff was very kind and helpful.
Nice location. Very friendly staff. Cute garden. Nice breakfast and dinner.
It’s pretty old. Smells old, moldy bathroom. Bad had these old synthetic blankets that just got clammy. Was okay for one night but would not have stayed longer. Should be rated 2 stars due to the facilities.
Very welcoming staff (both Ragu and the receptionist lady), good location just a walking distance from the city centre. We received a good breakfast and any leftovers were packed so we could have it on the train to Ella. They will help you arrange a taxi or tuk tuk if needed.
Homely but professional. Comfortable room and facilities. Exceptionally helpful staff.
We booked 2 rooms and had the best stay here. We felt so welcome, like staying with family. We also booked the Sri Lankan breakfast 1200 rupees, a feast with fish curry, dahl, roti, fresh fruit, yoghurt, coffee, (the best dahl I've ever had), and the English breakfast on the 2nd day). The lady manager and her manager Raghu catered to my friend's coconut allergy. Raghu in particular was very attentive, kind and helpful, making sure we had everything we needed for a pleasant stay and always up for a chat. He is such a hard worker and so nice. Highly recommend Hill Town cottage. Only a short tuk tuk into town 400 rupees. There are 4 rooms, with 3 upstairs and 1 downstairs. Thank you for a lovely stay.
Cozy, clean and nice staff. Very helpful with tuktuks and to go meals for our sunrise hike
The host is so nice. In the evening I have to work and a little bit cold, the host give me a glass of hot water to warm up. Very beautiful house with birds, cat and dog. I love it.
Nothing
The house was so clean, comfortable, the owner and staff were super welcoming. There was hot water, and they offered breakfast with an additional charge if wanted. We extended our stay from one night to two because of how much we enjoyed! They also offer tips and explanations about nuwara and what to do there. Super happy!!
There is slight humidity due to the cold outside and being high up so there was slight moisture in the bathroom but was not a problem for us (this is almost in all of nuwara)
They welcomed us very friendly and the room was good, the price was just right and the breakfast was good for the day. We arrived later than expected and the owner waited for us, what we really liked. They helped us to arrange a daytrip to the tea factories and waterfalls, which was really good. Extra blanket for the room, because we were cold.
The windows are not good, so you can hear the noise from outside and it got quit cold in the room. We arranged a tuktuk to the trainstation and the driver charged us more, than we agreed with the cottage (he said because of the stop to get water, but the price was already quit high- in the end we paid the same as coming from the trainstation by car...)
Such a beautiful cottage with the most gracious , accommodating and lovely hosts (+ their cute kitten shishi)! Everything was wonderful - delicious food, cozy room, nice balcony and hot shower. Ragu took on me on a great bike tour and took the best care of me. Couldn't have asked for a better stay 🙏♥️
We had a lovely room at the Hill Town Cottage, well located in Nuwara Eliya for the tours we did. The Host was very accommodating - he made us a lovely breakfast in the morning and helped us order takeaway the night before. Dinner was available if needed, but we would have had to order earlier in the day. The room and bathroom were both lovely, nice warm duvet for the cooler temperature of Nuwara Eliya. Highly recommend.
It was difficult to get a taxi from the cottage earlier in the morning, so would recommend booking this in advance.
nice colonial cottage in a very good and decently quiet location. Very good breakfast and also very great dinner. Ragu was very caring and extremely helpful. He had very good tips and suggestions without imposing anything to us. We got tea and take-away breakfast at 4.30 am for hiking as well as 11 pm.
room was a bit small, but you can sit outside near the fireplace.
The stuff was wiling to help with all we needed. Clean and comfortable the breakfast was tasty.
Nice hotel with beautiful garden. The interior is in chalet style, which suites the mountain area. Dinner was not available as the cook was off duty; however, they ordered a food delivery for us. Srilankan breakfast was delicious. The room was comfortable and clean.
There was no soap in the washroom
Everything
It's a really nice, cosy place, and we enjoyed it so much that we decided to prolong our stay in Nuwara Eliya. The staff is very friendly, caring and helpful. They serve delicious breakfast and tea (try the cinnamon one!). The area is rather calm and quiet, short walk from the city centre. The room was clean and comfortable, and had two balconies with a great view other the mountains. Very much recommended!
Very quiet homestay with extremely helpful staff. The room is big, with new and clean bathroom. Ragu was very kind arranging a trip to the Norton Plains and he woke up at 5am to prepare breakfast before I left.
Walking distance from City Centre Friendly staff Clean, big, and comfortable room
Ragu and his wife were both very pleasant, hospitable and accomodating. The room was extremely cozy and comfortable and the whole property was lovely! 😊 Thanks and hope to come back very soon! 🙏
All clean and comfortable. Both the owner and staff looked after us very well The food was delicious and reasonably priced. Ragu gave us lovely breakfasts, tea whenever we asked and booked a taxi for us. Nothing seemed too much trouble for him.
We loved The Hill Town Cottage. It is beautifully built with lots of hardwood flooring and wall panels. Our room was spacious and airy. The large bed was very comfortable. Outside of our first floor room is a large common area with comfortable sofa and arm chairs. If you are lucky with the weather you can have your breakfast at the table on the lawn. Although it is only a 10 minute walk into town the Cottage is peaceful and very quiet at night. The owners were very friendly and helpful. Ragu was excellent, he cooked a huge breakfast each morning, gave good advice on what to do in nuwara elliya and always offered us tea and coffee when we came back to this guest house. Highly recommended!
Nothing
The place was very nice and very clean. The staff was super helpful, it was walking distance to the centre. They helped us arrange a tuktuk for a day trip. Hot tea and cookies available free of charge throughout the day. Breakfast was delicious, adjusted to our preferences. Because of the cold weather in the region, we got extra blankets and we got really nice hot shower with enough pressure.
We spent two nights in the hill town cottage and really enjoyed the hospitality and the atmosphere of this gorgeous old mansion. The hosts are attentive and communicative. We location is quiet but perfect for discovering Nuwara Eliya, everything is within walking-distance. What we love most is the extra comy living room and the good water pressure of the warm shower.

We stayed 3 nights at this great place. Ragu was a very kind and supportive. The Sri Lankan breakfast is amazing and it’s lovely to drink a tea in the garden. We really enjoyed it.
Everything was perfect
This place is amazing. The best place I’ve stayed here in Sri Lanka. The rooms are very spacious, comfy beds, and very quiet at night. Breakfast is also amazing. Ragoo was very friendly and helped me to organize an amazing day in Nuwara Eliya. If you want to have some relaxed days, I highly recommend this place.
This place! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 I had originally only booked two nights, but ended up staying for four. Ragoo is the most kind and attentive host. He took me on a beautiful hike through the tea plantations, for scooter rides to see amazing views and waterfalls and did his absolute best to make my stay as good as possible. Spacious rooms, clean, great shower, two balconies and a beautiful garden where I had my breakfast in the sun and read my book with a cup of tea (or ten). Ragoo and Chamila cooked amazing food, and catered to my allergies. Chamila even made me Lawariya (a rice noodle pancake filled with coconut caramel and cardamom). It was absolutely incredible! I’ve had the best days of my Sri Lanka trip at the Hill Town Cottage. Felt like being with family. Would definitely come back! And I can’t recommend this place enough 💛 Thanks for having me ☺️
I enjoyed my stay here! The room was clean, basic but all you need as out most of the day sight seeing. Super cute cottage with a very homely/cosy feel. Ragu was the main staff member I saw and he was so helpful with things to do and made a great breakfast! Also gave me some extra blankets as it gets super cold at night.
Nothing - I would of stayed longer than one night
It was clean. A bit outdated but very nice and comfortable. Ragu took very good care of us and provided us with everything we needed or wanted. We did a long, beautiful hike with him through the tea plantages and little communities which we ended with some amazing local food. We got some great recommendations and they were all better than expected. We got amazing breakfast (Sri Lankan) and had a wonderful stay.
Beautiful place and lovely hosts. Also great value for money
