Banana Rest Sigiriya

It was an absolute delight to stay at this place during our time in Sigiriya! The place itself was tucked into the beautiful wilderness of Sri Lanka, with monkeys and amazing birds to spot right out your window. The family who runs this place is absolutely wonderful. For a small fee, the father took me and my friend everywhere we needed to go, including on our sunrise hike and even arranged and took me on a safari to see the elephants. The breakfast was delicious too! A gorgeous and tranquil spot that we recommend to all travelers passing through Sigiriya!

Nestled amid lush greenery right next to the forest, this property delighted us with peacocks strutting outside our well-maintained room. The owner and his mom were super helpful and warm. Breakfast was one of the best we’ve had in Sri Lanka! Piturangala Rock and Sigiriya Rock are nearby, and the owner even dropped us off at Sigiriya early in the morning.

Een bijzondere plek midden in de natuur. Overal aapjes, eekhoorntjes en vuurvliegjes. Fijn om een eigen zitje buiten te hebben. Het verblijf is verder eenvoudig. Maar de gastheer Ramith zorgde ervoor dat ik me heel welkom voelde, dacht met me mee over wat ik kon doen en bracht me en haalde me op. Ik kon ook met hem meerijden toen hij naar Dambulla ging. Echt oprecht aardig.

El alojamiento se encuentra al lado del centro de Sigiriya pero ligeramente apartado, ofreciendo una estancia tranquila y en medio de la naturaleza. Incluso hay animales en la zona verde del hotel, lo que hace la experiencia aún más bonita. La familia es un encanto y te ofrecen ayuda para todo lo que necesites. La cena que nos dieron, típica de Sri Lanka, fue espectacular.

Per on començar? La caseta al costat del petit llac, en mig de la natura, aixecar-se amb 20 galls d’indi corrent per allí. Esmorzar amb vistes als animalons. L’hospitalitat i amabilitat del Ramith i la seva família no tenen preu. Ens van donar recomanacions per tot i fins i tot per les següents destinacions. Ens van explicar coses de la seva vida i dades interessants d’Sri Lanka. Ens van explicar preparar per cafè per abans de pujar la muntanya i quan vam tornar teníem un esmorzar espectacular esperant-nos. Els dos dies que ens vam quedar no ens vam poder acabar-lo de la quantitat que hi havia i varietat, provant esmorzar típic de l’illa. També vam sopar els dos dies allí i ens van cuinar maravellosament. Vam provar varietat de plats típics d’aquí boníssims. Una de les nits vaig sentir soroll a l’aigua i em va sir que havia sentit un elefant voltant, i el vam poder observar de molt lluny mentre menjava. Increïble tot plegat. Estàvem pràcticament soles en un espai ideal. No esperar una habitació pija, i el lavabo és com a tot arreu, amb la ventatge que que la dutxa no mullava el WC. Hi ha aigua calenta. A tot això pròximament podrien fer renovacions. Increible estància. Recomano 100%

Ontzettend lieve mensen. Hij wilt je zelfs naar plekken toebrengen en ophalen. Het eten hier was verrukkelijk! Een super leuk en goed verblijf gehad waardoor we het zelfs nog een dag verlengd hebben!

Er zitten wel wat beestjes in de buurt maar dat komt vooral omdat je in de jungle zit.

Nice big area with a lake in front of the rooms. Quiet and away from the crowds. We were traveling with family and kids and everything was worth the price. The staff was very friendly and took good care of us. Thankyou will come again.

Можно сказать, что отель расположен в джунглях)) среди дикой природы рядом с озером, но от этого еще и больше впечатлений. Наш номер был террасой, встретил прекрасный хозяин, угостил нас “welcoming drinks”. Хорошее соотношение цена качество. Мы были на мотобайке, поэтому расположение нас устроило.

Das Banana-Rest ist eine wirklich tolle Unterkunft für einen sehr guten Preis. Die Besitzer sind außerordentlich nett und zuvorkommend, holen einen von überall ab (auch um 01:00 Uhr in der Nacht), bemühen sich sehr um einen und machen den Aufenthalt nur besser. Es ist nicht die schönste Unterkunft in Sri Lanka, aber die Menschen dort machen es besonders.

The location is just awesome and super peaceful. Directly at the lake, with the view of peacocks, cows and sometimes buffalos.

The tuktuk ride to Sigiriya was supposed to be included, but the owners seemed very confused when I asked about it. I wanted to go to Pidurangala and had to pay the whole drive (2000lkr). It's not a problem, I am happy to pay the tuktuk, but I disliked that there was wrong information on booking.

Peaceful location and wonderful host. We had a few challenging requests and he truly helped us with all of them.

The breakfast was generous and tasty. Ramith was as helpful as possible.

My room had seen better days! The room and bathroom weren't clean, and the smell was bad when I first went in. Droppings from I-don't-know-what-animal kept appearing in the bathroom, and there was also scuttling in the walls. The mosquito net had holes in it. I would especially advise lone female travellers to think twice before staying here.

The owner Ramith helps with everything and did everything that we’ve asked for. He even drove us to Kandy as there was no other driver available. The apartment has everything you need.

Small thing: We’ve booked a room without AC, it gets quite hot there 😄 so try to book one with AC. Worse thing: Friends or the family of the owner stayed there and they had a karaoke party on their last day which started at 9:30 pm and ended at 1:00 am. We could hardly sleep because of that. But that’s not the owners fault and sometimes it’s even funny to hear other people sing 😉

Absolutely loved our stay. We can’t thank this wonderful family enough. It was peaceful, incredible food, amazing wildlife and bird life in the garden. Very special stay. If you like being peaceful and enjoy nature this is the spot for you. Great spot to base yourself. Thank you, thank you!

Cleanliness of the toilets was poor. There were cockroaches everywhere. AC wasn’t clean so it was really hard to breathe good air.

I would like the location and surrounding. It is a Tranquille place.

1. Cleanliness of the washroom is poor. there was bad odor, and some small insects were there in the washroom. 2. Staff was no ready to provide food when asked. 3. I wish, staff much friendly than I experienced.

Beautiful location with a lot of wild animals roaming around the property really friendly and helpful owner and a delicious local breakfast

Location was close to Sigiriya, peaceful and very accommodating by the hosts. We checked in late and checked out late as well. The hosts were were understanding and gave us late breakfast which was an experience on its own.

Rooms were surrounded by wildlife. This is not a bad thing. We wanted some seclusion. But what we didn't anticipate is the side-effects of bugs at night which attracts to light :) Bathrooms had some small frogs which we had to escort out of the room. Again, we accepted this as it was so close to the surrounding wilderness. You come here for the experience not for luxury accommodation.

We loved our short stay at the Banana Rest. The owner (Ramith) and the rest of the staff were so helpful and accommodating. Fantastic location (was very easy to find via Google maps) with stunning surrounding, views and very close to Sigiriya Lion Rock, which was handy to do the climb early in the morning. The Sri Lankan breakfast was absolutely delicious too. Would definitely visit again if we are staying near Sigiriya and would highly recommend to anyone.

Th location wa amazing. It was teeming with wild life. Sitting on the veranda, I saw a mongoose, peacock, water buffalo, monkeys, plenty of squirrels. We were lucky to see a wild elephant too. Ramith went the extra mile to help with travel arrangements.

Lovely appartment house in the middle of the nature. It's calm, clean and beautiful! The host is extreemely helpful and friendly. His mother made us super tasty Srilankan diner. We even spend the evening together, by the bonfire having a little party. Amasing stay!

Have stayed here twice before and found that the standards were not as good as before, probably the hiatus caused by Covid is to blame.

Ramith was incredibly kind; I was fortunate to have him as my personal guide, and it was wonderful to discover a part of Sigiriya through his native perspective. The room was basic, but the place was so peaceful, with its view of nature, which was exactly what I was looking for.

This place is an amazing jungle retreat with beautiful views, quiet, and nice rooms. It is definitely perfect for someone looking to unwind and take time in nature, but Ramith is also very helpful in arranging tuktuk and helping craft itineraries if you still want to explore the area. The food here was delicious as well. I truly was so touched by what a wonderful family runs Banana Rest. The amount of love and thought that is put into everything is beyond expectations, and a great reason to stay there.

It’s in the jungle, so expect some bugs and mosquitoes. Wasn’t a problem for me (esp given the mosquito nets over each bed), just something to be aware of :)

The nature around is really nice and you can see a lot of animals.

We don‘t know how it has so good Reviews. We got a room which was really smelly then we asked the Host to get another one, we did, but it also smelled musty. I mean for the price you can‘t expect much, but a room without bad smell should be possible. And we never saw the Owner, just conversation over whats App.

We had the most incredible stay! The host Ramith was kind and went out of he way to make us feel at Hotel. The food was incredible, we stayed for breakfast and lunch every day. he was also very knowledgeable about the local sites (lions rock, Pidurangala rock and the safaris) and ensured we were getting the best price possible! · The owner – Ramith welcomed us and made our stay exceptionally wonderful. he was very caring and gave us delicious meals. he gave us instructions on how to go to hike the Pidurangala rock and Sigiriya Rock She helped us arrange transportation to Kandy and always checked up on us. The place is surrounded by nature and with amazing scenery with Wasanti’s beautiful garden. The place is clean. The room and bathroom was spacious with AC,and Wifi. During the day the , and besides we were out all day for different activities. We would love to go back again.

I was traveling with my family and mom and we booked two triple rooms for two nights. Let me start with the location and view. The location is very close to Sigiriya and has a private road to reach the property. For us, since we booked two rooms, our privacy was great as rooms were in pairs and were well apart from each other. The view in the morning is lush greeny breathtaking view and you will be facing the forest and can see parts of the lake as well. Peacocks, chipmunks are a common and close sight in the garden and my kids loved it the most. Food The host and the place clearly exceeded our expectations. Breakfast was prepared to our requests and we took all three meals from the place. We opted for rice and curry for lunch and there were a variety of dishes cooked to perfection. do doubt one of the best Sri Lankan meals we ever had was in this place. More importantly, my kids' dietary needs were taken care of very well and I did not expect such a great level of hospitality. They cooked chicken and dhaal without spices specially for my kids. My elderly mom was given all the comfort she needed such as a pot of hot water in the middle of the night. The host Ramith was only a phone call away no matter what we needed. He explained clearly on the steps to visit Sigiriya and later in the evening he arranged a safari jeep which came to pick us at the hotel and dropped us off as well at a very very reasonable price. The safari was such a great experience and we were able to spot more than 20 elephants at very close range. A must stay place if you are visiting Sigiriya. Would definitely book again.

For the amount we paid, we were well taken care of and there's nothing to complain about. Food prices were very very reasonable and they did not even charge for my kid's meals. Ramith is a very nice host. Wishing Banana rest all the very best.

serenity and nature

Our stay was amazing! We loved the house. The place is very piece calm and quiet, surrounded by the beautiful nature. Perfect for relaxing after very intensive days. The homemade food was delicious, and our host was giving us amazing and honest tips and advices whenever we asked. He also arranged the trip to Polonnaruwa with his tuk tuk for us, which was a great trip. He also took us to another places in the area, and the prices were very reasonable. He arranged the laundry service for us as well. You can tell that he’s doing everything for the guests to feel comfortable!

The rooms are very big and clean and really nice! All staff and the owner were extremely friendly and helpful with anything. Host Ramith is responsive and friendly. Also They Gave Me Very Important Information Around Sri Lanka in This Situation because Ramith is licensed Tourism guide in Sri Lanka. He is safety driver. he arrange sigiriya village tour for me it is The location is very good, 15 minutes walking to sigiriya rock

A very nice place completely out in nature. Very peaceful and quiet and the beds were comfortable. A TukTuk ride to the Sigiriya Rock was included and the owner gave us some nice recommendations for our stay.

Nothing bad but as the hotel is located in nature we had frogs in the bathroom and in the toilet. 😊

The rest house is located in a calm and peaceful environment, away from the buzz of the town. It borders the Kimbissa wewa and offers splendid views. The rooms were spacious and has little private verandas where you can sit and relax while enjoying the view of the forest and the lake. The food here is exceptional! We wanted to try a few cafes in and around Sigiriya but ended up taking all of our meals from here because the food was delicious, healthy and simply great. The host is also very helpful. This is a great place to visit if you are looking for some peace and quiet.

We had the most wonderful stay at Banana Rest. It is in the most beautiful, tranquil setting and Ramith and his family were such amazing hosts. The dinner and breakfast were really delicious - the best food we have had in Sri Lanka. So many lovely flavours. We had a free tuk tuk ride to Sigirya included too. Ramith and his family were so helpful and told us lots about Sri Lanka and the beautiful place where they live. The accommodation was very comfortable with either air con or fan depending on what you prefer. We cannot recommend this place enough. It is a real haven.

his place is amazing! Primot the owner is the nicest person I met in Sri Lanka. He took care of everything that we ask and was so kind. The room was big and clean, the garden is just stunning, and this family is so lovely. They cooked us the best rice and curry I've ever eaten and the Sri Lankan breakfast is also excellent, don't miss it. Ramith will give you the best tips for a fun time in Sigiriya and a feeling of home. This place is an amazing value for your money, I highly recommend Banana Rest, you won't regret it 💙

It was the combination of everything that made Banana Rest for me the perfect place to stay. The food is delicious, the area really peacefull and green. And then there is the nice admosphere and the hospitality you are welcomed with. Although it's only a 10 minute walk to mainroad where busses go on and off in both directions, host Ramith is happy to drop you off there with his tuctuc. Always in for a chat and happy to help you wherever it's wanted without being pushy in any kind of way. I really had a hard time leaving this place.

it was a great peaceful cared for location .I Watched monkeys in the trees from the porch of the bungalow… The chicken curry for dinner was great, as was 430am breakfast. It’s convenient to get to hike either rock. I could have taken more tours. This felt like true Sri Lanka to me . The chance of a random elephant encounter was a scare -joy

The host was the most amazing person, always friendly, always funny and he took so much of his time to talk about his country. The location is essentially directly in the jungle, which gives an amazing experience.
