First room allocated was dark and dreary on inside corner of complex. Upstairs was a 'resident' who had blocked off a carpark for his exclusive use. Weird to say the least. We were allocated another room. Also having to pay on booking with no cancellation was not ideal.

Reviewed Aug 19, 2026This is the most modern, clean motel I have found in Dunedin in this price range. Unless you are paying upwards of $200 per night, you won't get better. Comfy, clean, and when I say modern i mean for Dunedin, where everything is ooooold. Must mention the helpful manager, the room was cold because the heater is small, so he brought me a portable heater which sorted the issue.
Tired stained carpets could use updating.

Room was stale and smelt of cigarette smoke, stains on the carpet, no streaming like netflix etc, no compendium to explain things like TV etc, couldn't adjust heating, no spare blankets etc, but did get it a good price.

Reviewed Jul 16, 2026We had a most enjoyable stay at 555 Motel, Jason was an excellent host, even offering the use of his EV charger to charge our car overnight, which was very much appreciated. Our corner suite (family unit, upstairs) was huge, and spotlessly clean. Great location too, with the supermarket across the road and plenty of food options around. Loved that St Kilda beach was just a short walk away.
The only downside to the location is that there is a lot of traffic noise at night, especially on a Friday/Saturday, which may not be great if you're a light sleeper. Bed and pillows were on the firmer side, amd there were convection heaters rather than heat pumps, but otherwise a very comfortable stay.

There must have been a downpipe outside of our room on the other side of the wall to the head of the bed. It started to rain and the downpipe became extremely noisy with the water trickling down it. Could not sleep. Avoid unit #4.

Reviewed Jun 28, 2026The 1 bedroom unit was clean and warm and the room was a good size. The location is very close to the Edgar Centre ( about 3 min drive) which was perfect to us. Sushi is also right across the road and the Woolworths supermarket a 2 min walk.
The bed was very hard and I didn't get that great a sleep. The shower kept going hot and cold even when nobody in the unit was using any water - not sure what was going on. The motel really needs to upgrade the beds as the comfort of the bed is my number one priority when choosing a place to stay.

Reviewed Jun 25, 2026I loved the setup of the shower as it was perfect for my mobility needs. There was plenty of room in the unit and it was clean as expected. This unit was perfect for someone with mobility needs/challenges/difficulties. I would definitely stay here again.
There was only one comfortable chair and as there were two of us one had to watch TV either on the bed or in the uncomfortable chair.

Cold on arrival and the small heater took a long time to heat to a comfortable temperature. Unclear instructions on how to use. Bed was very hard and being a Friday night it was very noisy with traffic and cars speeding by.

That reception send us to wrong room, checked in 2pm, at 645pm knocked on door we had to move. He made a mistake and gave us the wrong room and wrong key. So we had to move to different room.

At first having no sink to wash cups etc in bothered me. Apart from the less than hygenic bathroom vanity. However it turned out the room was serviced, and fresh cups etc were provided. Also towels.

No cooking facilities in the unit we stay in but we just plan around it and there’s lots of options for eating close by.
