The Bank 1869 - Unique guestrooms in the historic center of Bruges

I loved everything about my stay. So close to the centre of the historic city and everything was within walking distance. The accommodation is in a beautiful restored building with lots of homely decor. Marie was a top communicator, giving me ideas for cafes, restaurants, taxis etc.

Not a negative, but be aware that there are two flights of steep winding stairs (quite normal gor this area). I'm in my late 60s with an artificial knee and managed to carry my smallish bag up to my room without too much difficulty.

my room was designed stunningly. i felt like i was some executive or movie star. the bathroom was awesome, the bed was extremely comfortable. very walkable. felt very secure as well.

the staircase is a bit noisy, so you can hear other guests coming and going.

posizione fantastica, a pochi passi a piedi dalla piazza principale e da tantissimi bar e ristorantini pur essendo in una zona tranquillissima e molto silenziosa... l'appartamento è bellissimo, comodo, pulito e ben arredato. perfetto per una famiglia. vale la pena fare due piani a piedi per soggiornare in una vera perla.

per trasparenza segnalo che le scale per arrivare all'ultimo piano sono abbastanza ripide e possono creare qualche piccolo inconveniente a chi ha problemi di mobilità o valigie molto grandi e pesanti, non era il nostro caso e abbiamo apprezzato tutto dell'appartamento che consigliamo vivamente.

La cama supletoria donde dormía nuestra hija tenia un edredón muy justo de tamaño, no caía a los laterales, por tanto no tapaba como debería. Aunque imaginaba escaleras al ser casas antiguas el tramo último al ático se nos hacía un poco cuesta arriba.

Die zentrale Lage der Unterkunft ist sehr gut. Die Schlüsselübergabe funktionierte über einen Türcode, der rechtzeitig per E-Mail übermittelt wurde.

Die Unterkunft war im 3. Stock und nur über eine recht steile Treppe zu erreichen, ein Aufzug ist nicht vorhanden. Das ist problematisch, wenn man beim Gehen eingeschränkt ist.

La proximité du centre est parfaite. La chambre est magnifique avec beaucoup de goût ! Une réactivité de l’hôte vraiment parfait. Une vraie bulle de bonheur à Bruges et notre hôte y est pour beaucoup !

Leuk ingericht kleinschalig hotel, in het centrum maar erg rustig gelegen naast het stadsschouwburg. Alle bezienswaardigheden zijn op loopafstand. Instructies mbt zelf checkin werden tijdig voor aankomst verstuurd en waren duidelijk. Alles verliep daardoor soepeltjes.

Verlichting bij badkamerspiegel was erg matig, veel te weinig licht. Badkamer/wc heeft geen deur. Schoonmaakster negeerde ons volkomen en zei niets terug, nadat wij ‘goedemorgen’ tegen haar zeiden. Vonden wij verassend.

Great location and the room was clean and spacious. The bed was large and comfortable. The shower and bathroom were also spacious and very practical!

The stairs are a bit narrow with a large suitcase.

Location and interior

I could hear sounds from the street and people walking on the floor above. The bathroom pipes were making noise as well, especially when someone in another room was using their bathroom.

Fantastic clean roomy flat in the town centre, so everything in easy walking distance. Was very hot for the duration of our stay so the air con was extremely welcome! The property is doggy friendly, we took our GSD, as is the cafe downstairs. Massive, comfortable bed! Lots of charging points and room for luggage. We had loads! Good shower/bathroom facilities and very quiet given the location. Honesty fridge with beer/wine/water available together with a guest fridge and kettle. Will certainly stay again given chance!

Not a criticism, just an observation really that the steps leading up to the flat are a bit steep. As a couple coming up to our 70's we were ok but a bit awkward with heavy cases. Don't let this put you off but if you have mobility issues you may struggle. No parking but there is ample available about 10 to 20 mins walk away. Extra charge of course! But you can pull up outside for a short period to unload.

Met name last gehad van geluid van de boven buren, het is zeer gehorig (houten tussenvloer). Ook het geluid van de straat is zeer goed te horen, heeft me wakker gehouden.

- Location; around 2 minutes from the main square and is surrounded by great restaurants and bars. - Cleanliness; the room and communal areas were spotless, it was all great quality. - Facilities; the room had heating, air conditioning, extensive TV and a powerful shower.

Excellent location, very spacious bedroom and bathroom with a very large bed with wonderful pillows.

A minor detail but there is no lift (elevator to the second floor) We had no problem, but if you had mobility issues then it is worth mentioning when booking.

Υπέροχο δωμάτιο σε εξαιρετική τοποθεσία! Ακριβώς κεντρο μόλις 2 λεπτα με τα πόδια! Στάση λεωφορείου ακριβως εξω απο την κεντρική είσοδο για εύκολη και γρήγορη προσβαση στο σταθμο των τρενων ή σε γυρω περιοχή. Πανέμορφο καφέ στο ισόγειο!!! Ευγένεια από όλο το προσωπικό και ΚΑΤΑΠΛΗΚΤΙΚΗ φιλοξενία. Το δωμάτιο πεντακάθαρο! άνετο! Ζεστό (για τον χειμωνα που το επισκέφθηκα) και προσεγμένο! Διακοσμημένο με εκλεπτυσμένο γουστο σε κάθε λεπτομέρεια! Η ιδιοκτήτρια Marie, πολύ φιλική και φιλοξενη και πολύ όμορφος άνθρωπος μεσα και εξω!!! Πρόθυμη πάντα να με βοηθήσει σε ο,τι χρειαζόμουν!!! Ήταν εξαιρετική επιλογή μας για διαμονή και όταν επιστρέψουμε σίγουρα εκεί θα επιλέξουμε ξανά και ξανά. Marie σε ευχαριστώ για όλα!!!❤️❤️❤️

Location, simplicity of host, friendliness

The room was too dark. A question of taste, I suppose. I didn’t understand the choice. I didn’t get the choice actually. Room are all different and you don’t have picture of the room you will get.

L'arredo dai toni cupi ma d'effetto, letto grande e comodo. La caffettieria al piano terra è un luogo molto tipico e rilassato. La posizione è perfetta tutto raggiungibile a piedi

Consiglierei di mettere un doccino che funga da pulizia delle parti intime anche se ho visto altre strutture non avere nè bidet nè doccino in Belgio.

Extremely tasteful and spacious room. Exquisite shower and beautifully scented toiletries provided. Perfect location, all the best non touristy restaurants and bars/pubs were nearby. Also just a stones throw from the Belfort. The Cade downstairs is really charming and our host was more than accommodating. Extra bonus is the honesty fridge just outside the room door with chocolate, beer and water

You could hear upstairs walking around a lot but it wasn’t that troubling

Steps to the room were horrendous, genuinely thought I was going to die everyday from walking up /down the steps. (I’m not even 40 yrs old)

Während unserer Radreise mit unserer Hündin Yuma haben wir für 2 Nächte Station in "The Bank 1869" gemacht. Das Zimmer ist sehr gemütlich eingerichtet und das Bad riesig. Das im Parterre befindliche Café trägt sehr zum Erholen und Entspannen bei. 2 der Chefs durften wir kennen lernen - sehr hilfsbereite, aufgeschlossene, nette Menschen. Wir kommen gerne wieder.

Could do with an elevator. Beds not changed daily, normally I would expect that for 130e per night.

We loved our large upstairs room! The location was ideal, close to the historic old town. The host was very easy to communicate with.

The only down side is that there's no elevator and very narrow stairs going to the floors. It was challenging, but good exercise.

We stayed in this room during our trip in Brugge. Rik is a very good host. He helped us a lot in everything. He responded to our messages very quickly and gave details. The house is quite clean and quite large .There were shampoo, hair dryer, coffee, extra toilet paper, towels. There is hot water during the day. The house is very safe and the lock system is very strong.The house is in a very safe neighborhood. The house is incredibly central and it is walking distance to everywhere. We did not have to use taxi or public transportation. There is no sound to disturb you at night. WiFi was perfect, The Adrian Coffee was very nice.Thank you very much Rik. We loved your house. We will come back to Brugge again, we will stay at your room again. Please try this house, we highly recommend it to everyone.

Central location, rooms are big and bed is comfortable. hotel seems newly done and advertised pictures are accurate. Parking was convenient in a garage 5 mins walk.

The hotel / rooms get quite noisy. The walls are thin and poorly insulated. We could hear everytime someone came up the stairs or if people on the floor above us moved around in the room. We had a dog so the noise clearly bothered him too. In the room, there is no door between bedroom and toilet / shower area. Its a walk in situation with no door / no curtains.

The road noise was horrific, the double-glazed windows did nothing to keep the noise from the road, we hardly slept as a result.

Impersonal, not very well sound-proofed so you can hear the town square through the night

I can’t imagine a more comfortable and charming place to stay! I loved every second here, and the ground floor cafe was an added lovely benefit to the location. The staff is great and really cares for these guest rooms. Amaaaazing shower. The location couldn’t be better. Quiet at night but walkable to everything!

It's really close to the heart of the city, the Grand Place and surrounded by restaurants and cafés. Very clean, stylish and comfortable.

No door between the bedroom and the bathroom. Downstairs café closed so no breakfast on the premises.

Too many steps without prior notification. I have a back issue and this was difficult. Television and lamp on the floor. It didn’t seem fully furnished for the price.

I had a fantastic stay at The Bank. The room was beautifully decorated, spacious, and spotlessly clean. Everything was functional and well thought out, making my stay very comfortable. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a stylish and impeccably maintained place to stay.

The location is perfect to explore Bruegge. The room is lovely designed and everything is extremely clean.

The location is central that means also quite noisy at night. As we were traveling in summer, we had the choice between noise or heat. Unfortunately the room had only a fan, no air condition.

Love the location, the shower, the bed and pillows, the cafe underneath, the styling of the room but most of all the scent in the building and the soap in the room. Parking is so easy in the Biekorf just 3 min walk. We would definately come back here. We stayed 2 nights, Friday and Saturday. It is a bubbly area but with the windows closed and earplugs in, we slept 2 really good nights.

The atmosphere of the whole building and the rooms are retro with modern touches, and high quality. The room and the bathroom were very spacious. Rik was very helpful and welcoming. The odor in the common areas and in the rooms were very good. The location is very convenient, even the bus stop to/from the train station is next to the building. Cafe Adriaan is good to have a breakfast.

As a solo traveler I liked the bathroom without a door, but can be a problem when traveling with friends. Due to the noisy guests, it can be noisy during the night, as the building is quite old. But the noise was not a problem for me

A beautiful room just around the corner from the market square/cathedral area. The bed was comfortable and the pillows were soft. They had umbrellas we borrowed one day also. The owners Rick and Marie were very nice, and helpful with suggestions and getting us a taxi hire at 5:40AM.

Just be aware that there are stairs to climb if your mobility is an issue.

Beautiful room. Lots of charm with a comfortable bed and fabulous decoration. Charming hosts and the breakfast at the cafe was delicious (try the orange jam!)

The room was cosy and functional. Nice interior design. The location was excellent to visit Brugge on foot. The owners were friendly and offered advices on what to visit and where to eat.

The private bathroom didn’t have the door. I looked nice but unpractical while staying with our little daughter.

We loved our stay! Beautiful property in a perfect location -- walkable to everything but on a quiet street away from the energy of the main square. Comfortable space with an excellent, charming cafe on the first floor. The highlight was our gracious hostess, Marie, who ensured we had everything we needed and even gave us recommendations for our next stop in Ghent, her hometown. We will be back!

The bathroom is separated from the sleeping area but there is no door or curtain, so nothing to block light or sound when one person was showering while the other was sleeping. We didn't mind, but others might!

The location is fantastic. And the room was clean and really comfortable.

We were surprised that we were asked on our last night to remove the bed sheets and take out the garbage. For the price that we paid and especially because there is no service offered in the room (they don’t make the bed nor fill the coffee even if you stay three nights), it lowered our rating significantly.

on entering with key code - it was not clear where to go. The door straight ahead was marked "Privee" and actually that was the door we needed for the stairs

Room is beautifully decorated, spacious and the bathroom is lovely and big. Everywhere is spotless and smells devine. The hosts are amazing and very acommodating.

I would have liked at least some warning on Booking.com that there was no lift at the property and that I would have to lug my two heavy suitcases up two flights of stairs. It is useful to be warned of this as there is no staff available to help.

The location is perfect! Especially as a solo female traveller, the hustle and bustle of Bruges was at the end of the street, the the street itself peaceful enough to sleep well. The bed was so comfortable and the decor is lovely.

Very centrally located. We arrived just as the cafe downstairs was closing and I initially found the welcome to be a little cold (language barrier?). Room was spacious and very clean . Breakfast available at the cafe on the ground floor.

The hotel is in an excellent location, and it's a short walk to the main city square. Brugge is a very walkable city overall, but being so close to the square is a great place to start exploring each day. The room itself is beautiful and well-furnished, and has plenty of big windows (with blackout curtains). It's right above a lovely coffee shop, which is a great first stop in the morning. Room comes with a nespresso machine, multiple glasses, corkscrew/bottle opener, cream, sugar, and stirring spoons. There's also a fan, which came in handy.

The primary thing that I disliked about my stay was the shower. I have never been so stressed taking a shower, because it barely drained at all, so that by the time I was finishing up, there was an inch or more of standing water, where all of my shower things ended up floating around on the floor because there is no shelf to store soaps etc. Multiple times I was afraid that the water was going to get so high it would overflow out the shower door (thankfully this didn't happen). I tried to find the owners to alert them of the problem, but I couldn't find them—probably because I was only at the property in the late evening/early morning. I only stayed for a couple of nights, but if I stayed longer, this would've been a bigger sticking point. Aside from the shower, there were a few odd things. First, the lighting in the room has incredible ambiance, but at night time is very dim, and hard to work or read with just the lamps in the room. There was also no luggage rack, which was unexpectedly annoying. Finally, while this is absolutely NOT the owners' fault, I thought I ought to warn you: I stayed in July, and left the windows cracked open at night to keep the room cool, and ended up getting eaten alive by mosquitos (or some other mystery biting insect) overnight. Learn from my mistake!

The property  is the perfect location for enjoying the town. The room was smartly appointed, beautiful, and up to date!
