It's location was perfect for my needs, as well as being comfortable and quiet. This is my third stay while attending a yearly event.

For my event, I was up and out early each morning and this was before the small hotel was active.

El Barrio is tucked away down a quiet back alley in Umalas. You probably wouldn’t find it unless you were looking for it—which was exactly the energy I wanted. I chose to stay in Umalas to escape the chaos of Seminyak and Canggu while remaining close enough to visit both easily. There are also several cafés within a five-minute walk. The entire property is adorable. The building is bright purple, while the lobby, bar, and pool area feature colorful Mexican-inspired décor. Each guest room has its own designated color and theme, and I stayed in the delightful green room. The bed was large, soft, and incredibly comfortable, with high-quality pillows and bedding. I have been traveling for months, and this was genuinely the best sleep I had during my entire trip. Gede and his team were warm, attentive, and accommodating. My room was cleaned beautifully every day while I was out, and I never needed to request additional towels or toilet paper. The rooms are cozy and may appear small at first, but there is plenty of thoughtfully designed storage, allowing you to unpack and enjoy the space comfortably. The bathroom’s gold accents add an unexpectedly luxurious touch. I would absolutely stay at El Barrio again!

Le plus de cet établissement, c’est l’hospitalité du personnel. Il est au petit soin du début à la fin du séjour. Tout est au top de la deco au infrastructure. L’espace piscine est exposé au soleil toute la journée ce qui est un plus à Canggu. Meilleur localisation à Bali ! Je recommande fortement

very particular vibes, every room has a different color and theme. very nice hosts who helped us as much as possible. the position is not great as you always need the car/scooter to move around, but all in all very good! I loved the pool and the vibe of the rooms!

​Geweldig verblijf, al voor de tweede keer! Dit was alweer mijn tweede keer hier en het was opnieuw absoluut geweldig. Dit is echt één van de allerleukste accommodaties van heel Bali! Alles klopt hier gewoon en de sfeer is fantastisch. Ik kan het iedereen aanbevelen en kom hier heel graag nog eens terug!

Enige kleine puntje is dat er geen klein koelkastje aanwezig is.

It’s down a dirt track but that makes it quiet. Most villas are down side roads and it does have car access all the way to the front door.

Cet endroit est très paisible, très calme, très propre. Personnel très sympathique et bienveillant. De Sumargita est très accueillant 😁 et est content de satisfaire ses clients Très bonne literie, jolie décoration. Abords de la piscine super sympa, reposant. Un bel endroit !

Meest verschrikkelijke hotel ervaring ooit! De kamer was zo extreem vies. Beddengoed zat vol vlekken en alles jeukten toen we in het bed lagen. Gelijk aangegeven bij de receptie toen we er savonds in gingen zitten. Receptie zou niew beddengoed halen. Deze jongen hebben we niet terug gezien. We zijm opnieuw naar de receptie gelopen na een uur ook weer aangegeven maar deze man kon niks doen en gaf aan dag we naar een telefoon nummer konden appen en bellen. Hierop kregen we ook uren lang geen gehoor. Midden in de nacht kregen we ineens reactie. Maar niet met een oplossing. We zijn de volgende ochtend gelijk vertrokken. Positieve recenties zijn van rond 2023/24 toen alles nog wel netjes onderhouden was dus trap er niet in!!! Douche zit ook vol schimmel en vuil!!

Such a cute little gem in the middle of Canggu! Away from all the noise and very comfortable rooms. Gede was an awesome host and Tom is a great addition to the property. Would recommend! :)

The beds are extremely comfortable. We had an issue with the purple room , terrible smell from the AC and insane condensation but the staff were super helpful and put us in a different room. Pool area is quite nice.

The purple room is extremely small, dark and it had a bit of a smell, I believe mostly from the air con but it seemed a bit musty. Location is not great, one of the busiest intersections in the area but you cannot hear the noise. Overall, not good value for money compared to other hotels in Bali

Niks. Zwembad misschien ietsje kleiner dan op de foto. Het is sowieso niet groot, maar dat vond ik juist knus en lekker rustig!

Magnifique hôtel avec une décoration superbe, très confortable et un personnel adorable ! L’emplacement est également idéal. Je recommande les yeux fermés !

Service and views

Beautifully decorated with a really nice Cuban-style aesthetic, very Instagrammable. The pool area is lovely and a nice place to relax. The food looks great (although slightly on the pricier side). The host was good and very attentive via WhatsApp, and provided a clothes drying rail quickly when requested. The bedding was soft and comfortable. Stand outs were very helpful staff, very accommodating.

The WiFi was poor and definitely not what I would consider “high speed” as advertised, intermittent during our whole stay. We were moved to a room closer to the router after raising it, but it still wasn’t reliable. The linen and towels had a musty smell even after changing 4 times with cleaning staff although this was eventually resolved after speaking to manager. The room was very small and felt misleading compared to the photos. There was no fridge in the room, so could not keep beverages cold and storage was limited (only 4 coat hangers and no shelves). Had to ask staff not to smoke in the linen and towel building area because the smell was coming into our room through air con and bathroom fan. The air conditioning was not very effective. The bathroom door wasn’t solid, which caused privacy issues and let light in during the morning. Doors were difficult to close and lock properly, would only lock from the outside, with gaps that allowed bugs in and contributed to a damp/mildew feel. Soundproofing was also very poor, with little to no privacy from noise in other rooms and cleaners that are up and down the front of the rooms all day from 7am.

Fantastische styling, geweldige kamer, super schoon en de manager is mega behulpzaam. Fijne zwembadbedden. Er zijn wat restaurants op loopafstand (italiaan, vis, burger en een Indionesch restaurant) wat hoger geprijsd.

Locatie is wat verder weg van alles en er is een restaurant bij, met best ok eten, alleen personeel zit de hele dag op hun telefoon, daardoor mist het een beetje gezelligheid/vibe

De medewerkers waren super aardig en behulpzaam! Echt een dikke 10 voor de medewerkers!! En de accommodatie is bijna nog mooier dan op de foto's! Echt sprookjesachtig mooi!

The property was so cool all the vibrant colours were amazing and the place was so clean at all times. Like a little paradise. 100 percent will be back and will tell friends to come. The team were all so friendly and helpful they really made out trip to Bali so special.

Everything was perfect!

I thought Don and Tom were absolutely amazing, Tom was a fabulous host and super friendly and helpful (always there to assist) and Don makes the best cocktails and has the friendliest character and dance moves. The music was on point and the place felt spotless clean.

I absolutely loved this place! Their beds are so comfy and it’s such a cute and aesthetic place

The communication before our arrival was excellent, and the staff welcomed us so warmly that we immediately felt at home. The rooms are absolutely beautiful, with small bungalows in many bright colors, and the whole hotel looks amazing thanks to its cheerful, colorful design. We truly loved our stay here!

Very comfortable clean and also friendly staff. We highly enjoyed our stay and would happily return, we had everything we needed. The villa was clean and the beds super comfortable! The pool was a perfect size for kids to have a play in!

- die Unterkunft ist genauso schön wie es auf den Fotos aussieht - das Personal ist sehr freundlich & hilfsbereit - die Zimmer waren die saubersten die wir auf Bali gesehen haben

- manchmal ging das Wasser in der Dusche nicht kalt, es war nur extrem heiß - die Straße zur Unterkunft ist sehr geprägt von Baustellen wofür die Unterkunft selbst natürlich nichts kann - nachts viele Tiergeräusche, aber das Personal hat sich sehr bemüht diese zu reduzieren

Super mooi hotel om te zien!

Wij hadden de standaard kamer en deze is heel klein. Je kunt er nog geen twee koffers in open leggen. Verder was het personeel niet behulpzaam. Verder konden we ook niks eten in het hotel omdat de keuken gesloten was. Alleen de manager (volgensmij) die we spraken via Whatsapp was vriendelijk en behulpzaam.

Väldigt fint och modernt boende, alltid städat och fräscht. Området vart lugnt. . Personen var 10/10 , alltid hjälpsamma och tillmötes.

Ligger lite utanför ”stan” och kan bli köer när man ska ta sig om mot den centrala delen.

This was my second stay at El Barrio and it was another nice stay. I really like this small hotel and have recommended it before. It is very comfortable for a solo traveler and, for my needs, the location was great.

For a couple, the rooms are probably tight but, hopefully, you like traveling together! Really, there isn't much to dislike. There is a lot of construction around the property but that's not within their control and it never bothered me.

Nous avons tout aimé. La décoration colorée et harmonieuse. L’ambiance feutrée de la chambre. Le lit super confortable. L’exposition du soleil sur la magnifique terrasse/ piscine. L’emplacement au calme de l’hôtel mais proche de petits établissements pépites. La propreté et par dessus tout l’accueil et la gentillesse de l’équipe vraiment irréprochable.

Everything, its a hidden gem in the best part of Bali - Umulas. Close to everything - canggu, Seminyak etc but a peaceful oasis away from the hustle and bustle….which can be easily reached. Not a huge number of rooms which makes meeting other guest very easy. But what makes it my home away from home is the staff. They are like a little family. There is nothing they wont do to help. They go above and beyond on every level. The food and coffee outstanding and very reasonably priced (as are the rooms). Ive been to bali 20+ times. Since finding el barrio a few years ago I’ve never stayed anywhere else and never will!

EVERYTHING was perfect, the place is amazing and the staff are lovely. Also is really quiet and you can have an amazing breakfast at morning and food by the pool :) I recommend a 30000% I’ll come back

Was geen ruimte om handdoeken of bikini’s van strand/zwembad uit te hangen.

Didn’t have breakfast at the hotel but it is available and the selection is made right on the spot. The bar is cute and accessible for those staying at the property.

The property is very picturesque and while Bali is a tropical climate understood that the buildings are still open to the outside with opportunities for insects and air to still come through. I didn’t mind it as I expected it but you can’t help the whole island everywhere has places humidity will reach.

This hotel was perfect for me and my friend, we loved the style, the bed was comfy, the location is close to shops/cafes. The staff are so friendly and whenever we needed help, the manager gede was available through WhatsApp and made sure any issue was sorted ASAP. They went above and beyond for us while we were travelling to the local islands. We would definitely recommend this hotel!

El Barrio is a a great little location. It's far enough out that you're not in the hustle and bustle of main area Canggu, but there is enough happening around the area that you're not stuck looking for things to do or places to eat. De (the host) is truly wonderful. His warm welcome really made you feel special and at home. He alone, it worth the visit.

By far, the BEST customer service I have EVER seen across any property, across all countries I’ve travelled to. I booked this property for my elderly parents and despite also being in Canggu, I was not able to be with them all the time and therefore couldn’t always be on hand to help them. At this point, enter Gede - he was the property manager for El Barrio and he was EXCEPTIONAL. Quick and clear communication with him before my parents arrived, which allowed him to prepare on how to make my parents’ stay enjoyable. My parents are quite fussy people, but Gede was patient and always willing to go the extra mile to help their comfort. One standout moment was when he personally accompanied my parents to a cafe I was with my wife and her family, despite all the heavy traffic in the area. Otherwise, the property has a colourful Mexicana aesthetic, which lends itself to the young crowd that it targets (my parents being the exception!)

All travellers should be aware that Bali has many roads and side-roads. In Canggu, the area is developing so some of the roads to and from the property are a bit underdeveloped, but not a problem for anyone to navigate!

We absolutely loved our stay at El Barrio. Staff were super helpful and kind. The room was beautiful and the pool area was even better! Thankyou so much for having us

This property is absolutely stunning! Felt like I had been transported to California or Mexico in the middle of beautiful Bali! The bed was super comfortable and the air conditioning was some of the best. The rooms are very aesthetic

I had an absolutely wonderful stay at El Barrio Boutique Hotel in Canggu! From the moment I arrived, I was blown away by the vibrant and unique design of the hotel, blending Mexican and Brazilian influences in a way that felt both artistic and welcoming. A special shoutout to the manager, Gede, who went above and beyond to make sure my stay was flawless. His warm hospitality and attention to detail truly made a difference. The staff were incredibly friendly, and my room was stylish, and so comfortable. The outdoor pool area was perfect for relaxing, and the on-site restaurant and bar served delicious food and drinks. Everything exceeded my expectations—I'll definitely be back!

Not much in the area and don't be scared when you pull up its down a dodgy road but very safe

All. The staff is very friendly, the colors in the bar and rooms are amazing and cheer you up! The pool is heaven.

The road to get there is a little mess, but it is because of the constant heavy rains during rainy season. Breakfast included would be a plus!

The hot shower was not continuously hot. Only for several minutes at the beginning.

I loved that the hotel was right beside a big tennis, pickleball, and padel center so every morning my friends and I could just wake up and walk right on over to play before grabbing a yummy breakfast nearby. The staff were super helpful in helping us book the courts, as well as recommending us places to visit. It's a small boutique hotel so was never noisy. The rooms were of different colors and were beautiful to look at. Would definitely stay again!

Sometimes the bedsheets had a humidity smell. Not sure why that is, but my guess is they might have sat wet for too long or were not fully dried. The staff quickly changed it when I asked though.
