The Snug - Rural Hideaway

The owner had been in contact with lots of info. The area was out of town, semi rural.

We arrived to find the Snug was like a container in the middle of a junk yard behind the main house. It did not look safe or inviting. Big open shed with gear all about. Very messy and rough. This was immediately outside the cabin. We left immediately. I texted the owner questioning if it was the right place. There were signs saying it was the snug. He replied that it was near his workshop. He then questioned if we'd been there as his security camera didn't show it ???? There were no external photos on the ad.

Heating worked well. Bathroom good

The ad for this property is completely deceptive. The location is horrendous. Down a gravel road (not disclosed) and you look out on to a gravel junkyard complete with a building timber pile, a bobcat and a number of the owner's cars, this is not shown in any photos. When we went for a walk to get our bearings, we were quickly chased away by the owner. Other reviews have said there should be a photo of tthe property''s aspect abd I hope Booking.com will insist upon this. We wasted $300 on a place we didn't stay in. Definitely not a rural hideaway and only a scenic holiday spot.if you like sitting inside a converted shipping container in someone's junkyard.

The setup was fabulous. It had everything you needed. Very homelike, clean and comfortable. Was absolutely perfect for us, we have even made a 2nd booking for.

Lovely interior that warmed up fast on the cold days. Had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Out of Invercargill but close enough to drive in each day, if you want a bit of a break from town.

Free breakfast was advertised but this never eventuated

A very cute little 1 bed accommodation. Owners were lovely and communication was great. We were there during a storm which caused a bit of banging around at night but the owner happily came over to rectify the next day. .

Absolutely loved the place, so cute and cosy with the plus of feeling like you are disconnected from everything yet town is only a few minutes away and all the awesome things the Otatara/ Sandy Point area has to offer all within a stone’s throw

Mike and Katrina were very lovely and approachable hosts. The house was warm, comfortable, and located in a peaceful rural area, which made for a relaxing stay.

We didn’t notice the location of the washer and dryer at first – a small sign would be helpful to point these out.

Stylish and nicely kitted out. Everything you need for a short stay. From the road look out for the wee sign on the right of way. It's just up the drive and round the corner.

A lovely modern clean and well equipped unit, very suitable for a couple. It was warm, quiet and served our purposes very well.

It is very dark at night and best to be found during daylight hours - this wasn't a problem to us but just so others are aware of this.

The property is situated at the back of someone’s private land. It is a single unit with a decent size bathroom, a bedroom, a kitchen and small lounge area. What I liked about it is the self sufficient unit. The breakfast provided by the owner was a thoughtful gesture. The whole place was very minimalistic and well decorated. I also liked the Smart TV.

The owner could improve on the following things: 1. Cleaning the unit, upon looking there was dust along the bedroom wall near the base of the bed. Cleaning in the bathroom under the storage shelf as I dropped something under it and noticed a lot of dust. So, a deep cleaning would be adviced 2. A little more privacy in the morning. Since the unit is located in someone’s backyard, we noticed a few people walking around to get some firewood. 3. The laundry area had bedsheets in the washing machine, and there was no washing powder there.

There was everything we needed and the information and instructions was very good. It was definitely snug.

We just found that the location was not optimized due to the vehicles and sheds we looked out on. It was rural but could have been a better outlook.

Very quiet place to stay.

The hardest part was finding the place i however had been given instructions yet like many didnt follow them correctly other than that mishap on my part the place was beautiful, comfortable nice and small with everything you needed to just relax and be in the moment, reset and spend time with a love one.

Great stay! The place was clean, cozy, and had everything we needed. Perfect location and a very friendly, helpful host. Would definitely come back!

Unable to open windows at night due to mosquitoes

It included everything you needed. Loved that it was rural so it was very quiet. The kitchen was fully equipped, it even had an oven! The bathroom was spacious and very clean.

There is a camera right outside the property that could potentially see inside the bedroom and living/kitchen. This is a bit strange and there is no mention of this when booking or disclaimer at the property. If this stuff freaks you out a bit I don’t recommend staying here. Also, there are no fly screens on the windows and you often need to have them open because it’s such a small space it gets stuffy. We encountered around 5 mosquitos after opening the window in the bathroom for 15 minutes.

Such a well-appointed unit, it had everything I needed to work remotely between meetings in the city, and have a really comfortable relaxing time. It was so peaceful. Incredibly comfortable bed, high pressure shower, and the kitchen was home away from home. I wish I could have stayed longer.

The unit was beautifully designed, well kept and very clean.

The only bit of constructive feedback that I would give is to add an iron and ironing board for corporate visitors. That would make it the perfect accommodation for any guest.

Mechanics backyard or farmer’s junkyard? Roof/verandah rattled and vibrated in the wind making sleeping near impossible. Hot tap faucet moved as one tried to turn it on. No hand towel. No tea towel to do dishes (drip dry)

Very nice, cosy and warm wee hideaway. I had come down for some sea-run trout fishing but unfortunately the weather didn't play its part, so I decided to leave before the morning. So I didn't actually spend the night but while I was in the house it had everything I needed and would most definitely like to stay there again. A big thank you to the hosts for having the heater on for me and having some milk in the fridge (which I had forgot to buy on my way)

Loved the location, the Snug was perfect size for just one bloke and good wireless so i could work. Good comms from the host.

Not really a negative but the location can be a little hard to find the first time.
